The Inconvenient Life of an Arousing Priestess Volume 2

Rate this book
The Arousing Priestess' Pure Love!

Monica’s tremendous power as a saint comes with an unfortunate side effect—the ability to induce heat in herself and others. Even so, she keeps herself busy every day working for the sake of the people and Prince Richard, the man who accepted her as she is. But lately, whenever she sees him, her body grows warm and her heartbeat goes wild despite not using her power. She begins to wonder if there’s something wrong with her. While she wrestles with her emotions, a strange merchant poses a question to “What dreams do you have for your life after your service as a priestess ends?” Because a saint’s power comes with a time limit and could disappear at any moment. And when that day arrives, Monica knows she can no longer remain by Richard’s side…

An arousing priestess wracked with worry and an imperial prince whose desire to monopolize her only increases with each passing day. Enjoy the pure river of their overflowing love in volume 2!

Mediocre sequel

I really liked the first volume so I feel a bit disappointed with this one. One of the biggest problems I have with it is there was something really strange about the writing style. For some reason the author shifts back and forth between first person and third person. If that weren't enough, they also switch POV characters. This leads to frequently being confused who's talking and what group you're with.

As for the story itself, it felt almost boring. There was hardly any satisfying conflict that needed resolution and everything just sort of fell into place conveniently. A lot of it felt like the author just wanted to tie up loose ends, and didn't actually have anything they wanted to write about. Almost like going through the motions. The villains were very shallow and inefficient and our heroes had no struggles really. It just came off as very meh and kind of boring.

Under normal circumstances I would have finished this book in half a day, but because it just couldn't catch my attention and hold it... it took multiple days to finish and wrap up.

Monica’s life as a holy woman has taken some twists. She went from an undervalued and spurned priestess of Kophe to a close friend of the Empire! Who knew Mr. Redhead was the crown prince of the Belktrius Empire? Certainly not her! Now she’s on a mission to destroy the monsters overtaking Kophe while also purifying the land.

While I enjoyed the first book, I also found it to be a so-so read because it was information heavy and the romance was practically nonexistent. However, this book hit the ground running and threw my issues with the story straight out the window. There was quite a bit of character development for several characters, which I’m very happy about. I also liked that we had minimal info dumping. We received more information through the occasional passage told through another character’s perspective, which was a huge upgrade and greatly improved the whole story!

Plus, the romance finally started developing and was believable. While I don’t care for Richard’s jealous streak, their friendship blossomed into a passionate romance. I honestly forgot that this was a light novel at one point and got a reminder that it’s NOT a spicy novel when their coupling faded into the next chapter! I do wish that Monica put two and two together much sooner, though. Halfway through the book, there is no way she could’ve possibly mistaken Richard's feelings as being platonic!

That said, I really enjoyed this book. It resolved the issues it had throughout the first volume and ended with a bang. Almost literally! Plus, the artwork that comes up every so many chapters was absolutely stunning. I hope to check out the manga adaptation next!

This is a good series but this volume heavily uses a trope I am rather tired of. And that is the misunderstanding of characters’ feelings for each other.
How many times does a guy have to tell a woman he never wants to let her go and kisses strands of her hair before realization arrives. Does she think a man kissing strands of her hair means he just wants to be friends? Has there ever been a man who kisses strands of a woman’s hair many many many times who just wanted to be friends?
Outside of that annoyance, there was some interesting political intrigue and deft maneuvering by Richard. There was more revealed about Darius and Solarus. Monica unleashes her powers to help Kophe recover their agricultural capacity. And there is a new character introduced who seems determined to tempt Monica. Lots of interesting stuff and a fairly decent wrap up to this arc.

I'm enjoying this volume as much as the first. They finally gave us a direct statement on Richard's feelings towards Monica!

Despite this, I cannot give it 5 stars. Like the first volume, the writer's understanding of the passage of time seems skewed. They spent months traveling and fighting monsters, helping the Emperor and Empress regain their health and intimacy, and to top it all off they had a baby. This novel has a scene near the begining where Monica and Richard talk as if just a year had passed. I would have expected closer to two years to have passed as it takes 9 months to have a child. Were they really working at breakneck speed? It didn't seem so in volume 1 but that must be the case.

Edit: Finished it! It was very satisfying when they finally talked their feelings out and Richard reveal the truth. I wish there were more! Not in the sense that this wasn't enough, but I'd like to see the next part of life like when Monica loses her holy powers.

Holy powers with a interesting side

Entertaining and cute. A priestess with a strong holy power and an embarrassing often times dangerous side effect. Luckily a guardian angel at her side with a hidden past.

There wasn't much development with priestess and Prince. Manga is a nice light read.
