I dnf’d at 63%. I tried finishing it but I have entirely too many other books to read to force this one. I’ve read MC books before, I enjoy them….when they’re written well. We all know the prez or whoever the mmc ends up being in these books tends to be an ahole/jerl/whatever you want to call him but usually they’re made to be slightly likable. The author usually makes them act differently towards the FMC, going against what they normally do. That’s not entirely the case here.
MMC is Sledge. He’s the President of his MC the Black Clovers. They run drugs and guns per usual. One “client” ends up owing them $120K worth of product or money. When he obviously can’t pay, he tells them to get it from his fiancé who’s a doctor. The MMC takes this as she’s now his to own etc. Again generically usual for the setting of the book. He has his men watching her for two months BEFORE doing anything or letting her know that she now belongs to the club. He has decided that she will be his ol lady and that instead of her just working off the debt, she has to move into the compound and be their doctor explicitly.
When she realizes she’s not been paid and finds out that she’s essentially a prisoner, he tells her she belongs to them forever and that “he’s not into r*pe but you will be under me moaning my name.”………..I….couldn’t after that. Especially when he forces her to live on the compound instead of still in her home which she had been up till that point and after that disgusting comment…. Her next POV states how she can’t stop thinking about him and is upset that she doesn’t know if he was flirting with her.
I read Dark romance, almost exclusively. I LOVE dark romance and routinely enjoy reading MC romances…but they have to be written well and not just…thrown together with random tropes. It’s not a hard ask to for a Novella to make sense. If you loved it, i like that for you but this was a hard no and I don’t think I’ll be trying any other MC romances from this author.
