“You know, this isn’t going to be one of those stories where the AI falls in love to find her humanity…”
“We’ll see.”

The Genesis Project sought to build a weapon that could infiltrate enemy lines effortlessly. An AI-driven android so hyper-realistic Earth would never see their doom coming.

This time when the AI goes rogue, it is for redemption. Determined to find a path of her own, Genna escapes to traverse desert wastes and war-torn ruins in search of life, love, and purpose—and it could mean salvation for those long forgotten in the dark.

Now Genna must forge a new future while being hunted by her very makers.

The Light of Imadora is a tale of drama and action with themes of humanity, found family, grief, healing, and community.

I love this author and I want the world to know how amazing she is, so I reviewed The Lights of Imadora and these are my thoughts.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No Spice

The Lights of Imadora by Britt Knight (also…go read Bishop immediately)

On the surface, The Lights of Imadora is a brilliantly written and fresh take on Science Fiction, blending the technicality of AI with the imagination of fantasy. But Britt Knight doesn’t just write about technology and humanity—she humanizes these concepts with such care that you can’t help but feel drawn into their world. This is approachable, heartfelt science fiction, the kind you dream of—rich in ideas yet deeply rooted in the emotional fabric of life. Oh…and did I mention heart racing…ugh!

What truly sets this book apart, though, is how it so effortlessly weaves an intensely personal and familial story into a beautiful tapestry. The Imadorian community is a living, breathing entity—vivid and alive with kindness, safety, and love as its foundation. With each new character introduction, I felt like I was meeting a new best friend, and I got goosebumps each time the family bonds were tested and reaffirmed. These relationships are a testament to Knight’s incredible ability to capture the soul of humanity and show how strength can grow in the spaces where we care for one another.

I already knew Britt Knight was a phenomenal writer—her previous works blew me away—but The Lights of Imadora is something else entirely. It’s a masterful, poignant exploration of what it means to build a community on the foundation of kindness, safety, and love. It’s a love letter to friendship and the extraordinary things we can achieve when we come together. Jasmine gave us this beautiful community and the people are what make it special.

This book is more than just a story; it’s a profound experience. I loved every hidden moment, every heartfelt connection, and every stitch in the beautiful tapestry of Imadora’s world. I cannot recommend this book enough—it’s a reminder of the best parts of us and what we can accomplish when we support and care for each other.

The Afterword made me emotional! This is a book I will carry in my heart forever. Thank you for telling our story.

Wow—this book had an iron grip on my emotions from start to finish! It masterfully wove powerful themes of friendship, community, compassion, and resilience with heart-pounding, fast-paced action that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.

If this book doesn’t leave you wanting to go out and find your people, I have to ask—did we even read the same book?! Truly incredible, and I can’t recommend it enough!

This book is a love letter to friendship and chosen family in the form of a sci-fi adventure. The undertones of the story explore loss/grief and how resilient people can be in the face of it. You are told the story through the perspective of a hyper-realistic AI as she struggles to find her purpose and place in this new to her world.

There are a lot of characters in this book but they all felt important and crucial to the story even if they were only briefly mentioned. Everyone was a piece in the puzzle that makes up Imadora.

“‘Loss brings a great many things. A void.’ he said shortly. ‘Sometimes, you get lucky. And hope finds its way in. Suddenly, you feel the difference between having to start over, and getting to.’”

“Dani wanted to be wanted. A home. A family.”

“I didn’t understand the terrible gift pain could be.”

Brit dedicated this book to our online book club, The Bestie Bookshelf, and even went as far as to name the majority of the characters after many of the besties apart of the club. I don’t feel like I deserved one of the main character namesakes in this book - there are so many more deserving. But I definitely felt seen, valued, and heard after reading this.

This was a great book to kick off the year!

I have no words. This was absolutely amazing. I’ve never read sci-fi so I didn’t know what to expect. I fear nothing else in the genre will bring me anywhere near as much joy as this book did. The found family is found family-ing. Genna’s story was so beautifully written. I did not want to put this down. 1000/10 highly recommend.

I went in to reading this book knowing a lot about it because we literally got to watch it be made. However, I never anticipated the actual outcome. The emotional journey that Brit Knight takes us on is beyond incredible. You get to watch first hand as Genna grows and finds who she is, as she navigates new experiences and feelings. As she finds her found family. Written as a love story for a community of people who continues to grow in size, yet there’s this feeling of family there. I feel like she captured the spirit of all of us in this book and you can feel it radiating out as you read it. If you’re looking for that feeling of community, a safe space to be, go Follow Brit Knight on all her platforms and welcome to the family!

Brit Knight somehow manages to create the most badass, female main characters. First it was Bishop, now it’s Genesis. I find myself thinking, “Man, I wish I could be like that.”. Although Genesis is an AI, she has attributes that I’m jealous of. I wish that I could have her memory for one. Haha She’s strong, smart, independent, and tactical. In the end, she becomes human in her own way and sacrifices everything for her found family. I absolutely loved this book and every character in it. I happen to be in it too. 🙂‍↔️

I love this book SO much I can not find the words nor can I be given enough words to describe the warmth felt from this book. The relatability of this outer space world is unparalleled to any other work of sci-fi I have played my hands and eyes on. Tears were shed but not just because it had sad moments but because of the simple sentimentality of precious moments. Multiple Kodak moments for sure. (For the children who have no idea what a Kodak is. It’s a camera with film that we had to print the pictures from 😱)

I finished this book in 24hrs, only because I was sick. It would've been a start to finish in one setting book. In fact, I loved it so much, I am going to be rereading it with a group of book Besties. It released yesterday and I've only purchased a physical and ebook version, as well as gifted it to two people I knew had to read it!! I am lucky enough to call the author, Brit, a good friend of mine. We talk almost daily and I've had the pleasure of sitting with her while she wrote this book and others. I have loved all her books and this book is just as amazing. I firmly believe she us a under-hyped author and we need to get her books into more people's hands!! I am not a sci-fi girlie but I love her sci-fi books. She writes in a way that makes sci-fi accessible to everyone. Her characters are top notch and this book in particular many of my book Besties, including myself, had characters named after them. We got to help choose the plot along the way. It was interactive and so fun!! Please read this book and then come find us on FB at The Bestie Bookshelf.

ARC REVIEW

This book… THIS BOOK! At the same time, I have a lot of words but am also speechless. I adore the concept of “found family” in books more than anything else. If that is something you’re searching for in a book, then you’ve found the right one.

The Light of Imadora has a strong focus on characters, which I thought was fantastic. I have read more than one of Knight's pieces, so I'm not shocked by how attached I became to many of them. As I grew to love these fictional characters, I found myself wanting more time with them and never wanting the story to end.

Knight has written this amazing novel as a tribute to The Bestie Bookshelf, an online book club that has united readers from all around the world. Bringing people together to make you feel at home is exactly the type of narrative Brit has written about.

If you haven’t already, please pick up a copy and have a read. It is incredibly beautiful.

The journey this book takes you on was heartwarming. Genna’s story truly is one of found family, self realization, and healing. The emotions I went through while reading this book had me laughing and crying and loving and wanting more. I truly hope we are eventually gifted with more of this story as the character developments were absolutely beautiful and the end of the book just left me hoping to have a glimpse into more of Imadora’s future. This book was full of the perfect amount of twists that make you go 🤯 and it will not disappoint!

What an enjoyable read!

This book held my interest from the beginning. I’m not usually a sci-fi book reader but I loved the style, character and storyline. Brit Knight’s style allowed me to visualize characters and settings in Imadora. The growth of throughout the story was heartwarming. I was disappointed when the story ended. I can’t wait to see happens with Genna, Dani, Reaper and the rest. Read this book!!

Also, character Leona is awesome.

Y'all, this book is amazing. I laughed, I cried, and I wanna read it again! It's a beautifully written scifi with themes of found family, grief, hope, and healing. Brit has done it again! I was immediately sucked in to Genna's story and did not want to put it down. I've never rooted for an AI more than I did for Genna! Brit, I'm obsessed!
