All seems well. Renan has successfully defeated the demon at the ancient ruins and ensured Yana's safety. But is everything truly good?
Barely back in Westholde, our friends are captured by the Silver Circle for interrogation. Rumors of objects coming to life have reached the Mages’ ears, placing a massive target on Renan's back. Mistaken for an unlicensed magic user—a crime punishable by law—Renan is thrust into a perilous situation.
When the Mages rip his Aetheric Record from him to investigate further, they find no discernible Class and no trace of lingering magic. Renan insists he's a Level 8 Artificer, but the Mages have never heard of such a class or its abilities. Though his name is eventually cleared, Renan quickly realizes his troubles are far from over.
As it turns out, magic is strictly regulated for reasons that go far beyond politics. Flares aren't the only danger in this world; the demon Renan encountered at the airship was just one of many Void-spawns, creatures drawn to magic users. This is why every Mage must be accounted for—their very existence poses a threat to all.
Renan and Yana must tread carefully, especially as the lure of adventure proves too strong to resist. When an opportunity arises to explore another pre-Cataclysm ruin, they can't say no. But reaching it will require them to navigate monster-infested woods. Thankfully, each monster they defeat brings valuable XP and new skills to master.
What secrets will Renan and Yana uncover in their quest to unravel the mysteries of Artifice? What ingenious constructs will Renan learn to craft?
I had been so eager to start the next book after reading the first. I’d been keeping an eye out for this book each week when I checked for more books to keep my attention. When I finally saw it a couple of days ago I immediately downloaded and started in.
Just as with the last one, it was enjoyable throughout. I really appreciated the bits of world building. The long cultivated friendship portrayed between Ren and Yana is nice. There is good progression for them both.
It was fun learning more about the little snippets of history of the world here and there. I can’t wait to start on the next step into this adventure. Exploring this exciting world with Ren and Yana.
Not quite 5 stars but close. Nice advancement in the story good MC good action overall well done. There are a few plot elements that don’t quite hold up. Easily overlooked but if this were somehow reality, other things would’ve likely happened.
No spoilers but the story continues. The MC grows his friend grows with him and you learn more about this world. That’s part of the mystery. What’s going on here you learned some of that and the story is better for it. Well worth a read, but there’s one issue the author Did take. 2 years writing this book actually just over two years 25 months from one publication to the next. One thing we as readers need when it’s been so long is a summary. Tell me at the beginning of the story where did I leave off again. You have to understand we don’t remember everything from the last book, especially when it’s been so long so give us a little bit of a breakdown. Even without that, I found it once I started reading I could remember the basics. You may wanna go back to the first book and read the first a few chapters just to remember things. Other than that you will enjoy this.
Message to the author.

OK, I have to talk about the story. I let everyone I know spoilers could persist. First excellent book it really stung that it took so long to get here. I thought we might not never get a sequel. Imagine my surprise when I saw this book online. Amazon doesn’t do such a great job letting us know books by authors. We follow have been posted because I follow you for several books you’ve written. Waiting on one armed to come back. Anyway, this was a good story really good. The characters are great. The concept of the world great and I like where you went in the story here.. My only issue is there are some points in the story where things just don’t add up places where people would have left most likely, but they didn’t. I know this was too advanced the story But there are times when someone of rational mind would’ve said I’m out. That first wagon attack there’s no way they would’ve kept going. Several times when the one mage kept getting smart with them treating them like dog crap there’s no way someone would’ve put up with that. There’s no way his colleagues would’ve put up with that. There’s no way they wouldn’t have treated the young man the artificer with more reverence. Not after they saw, he could open up the building. They would’ve shown him respect just to get what they wanted. Either that or they would’ve kidnapped him. It made no sense for them just to let him walk around free. I honestly thought the girl would’ve ended up spying on him, but that wasn’t the case.
The two MC’s are great in their own ways. The dynamic between them really aides this tale though. Lots of hints at world building without any real answers, rather like the first book. My chief complaint is the ending. While not as bad as volume one the author leaves us on a bit of a cliff. I really dislike this habit. Why treat a book like a tv serial with an episode every week? Knowing I will have to wait a year or more for any kind of conclusion makes me not want to read it in the first place.
The writing is good with not to much exposition. Editing was mostly good, there were several incorrect words etc.
Excellent writing. Quality mix of fantasy and medieval European style world building. Not a romance at all, but the love between Renwen and Yana is exquisite. They are best friends but also each other’s other half. There is absolutely no romance, and yet if the series didn’t end up with them together, it would feel like complete madness. The overall mysteries and plot are intriguing, yet each story feels well enough complete that I don’t feel anxious about what happens next, or waiting for the series to complete before starting. I will happily read any and all further books in the series. It is fantastically written and I want to get more answers!
I've read both books and I really liked the storyline. Lots of creative ideas. However the main character acts like an uncoordinated bumpkin. Always falling down, passing out or crumbling on his knees. He acts more like a girl while his girlfriend who is stronger acts more like a guy.also the author is infatuated with his/her ability to provide useless details to everything happening around the characters which slows down the action in the story. Other than that it was worth reading.
What a fun story. I'm greatly enjoying the series except for the fact that it takes so long between books. The characters are fun, unique, and entertaining. I love the world and the questions it presents. Ultimately, this is why I like the book in the series. I want to know what happened to their world, just like the main character. Hopefully, we don't have to wait as long this time to learn a little more about the world that Ren lives in
This book at least had the mc curling his fingers into his palms a few less times. Still not sure if the author deliberately linked his making fists and his class of Artificer. The mc is too much of an idiot savant for me. If he really loved Yana he would think of her instead of himself whenever he does something stupid. Being an idiot seems to be working out for him though. I really wish he would use Identify on normal things like the unidentified ring!
It's a poorly told story with lots of errors, but it has potential. The author will one day look back on their first work and think, "wow, that was terrible," but they are on the path and writing. They should hire an editor and pick up a basic grammar book, and the quality will double. I'm looking forward to the third book in the series to see how the author improves.
I cannot believe, or I choose to believe, that the writer is as illiterate as this appears. I choose instead to believe the editors irresponsible for the proofreading were just sloppy. I never give one star reviews, however this one might deserve it for the Yogi Berraesq word use in so many many places. They destroyed immersion and caused déjà Vu all over again.
Good pace to the story the world building is excellent and the characters easy to relate too , this is the second book of the series and is as good or better than the first great battle and fight scenes the game mechanics not to invasive loved it from start to finish !
Really enjoying the story and the mc progression and discovery so far. Minor editing issue with the introduction of one of mc's new skill results to supporting characters - happens twice under different circumstances but with the same response, as if it were the first time.
I went back and read the first book before I started the sequel. They were both wonderfully written books. Well edited, and very satisfying to the end. The characters are engaging and worth becoming fond of. Definitely a book that would engage readers seventh grade and up.
I'll admit that I had kinda blanked on vol. one when I started this, but there were enough references in the first couple of chapters to fill in the gaps enough to enjoy this one.
Pacing is good and kept my attention, characters are developing at a decent rate, and there is enough real peril for major characters to keep the tension up. Overall very well executed and engaging.
It's a simple story written for young adults, without any exciting plot twists or new ideas. There are quite a few logical plot holes, but I doubt young adults will notice. The story is simple, but forgettable, as the characters really don't elicit any kind of emotion. Simple and fine for young people. Boring and slow for adults.
I like the premise and the pacing, but there are continuity issues that are too extreme to ignore.
If the author is reading, the Mages meat Titan twice. And some spelling errors. You could use a decent editor, but overall, good ideas and I look forward to more.
However, the author needs an editor. There are spelling and grammar errors scattered throughout the book as well as story continuity issues. The author is also repeating the same thing over and over again. It is readable although editing is definitely needed.
The whole LitRPG is a bit trite. This is a better example. However it's still formulaic. Every character not Ren or Yana are unsympathetic 2-dimensional horses behinds.
Completely railroads the ending. The last half is obvious and forced. The characters complain and grit their teeth but continue to do nothing and just let the story happen. It's incredibly disappointing.
This one of the best stories I have had the pleasure of reading. Has a great character development with some amazing adventures. I like that REN is not advancing super fast. Great job goes out to the author. Can hardly wait for the next one.
Good character development and multi party interaction. I like seeing the different plot lines getting built. Looks like future offerings will have quite a bit to draw on.
I really can't wait for this next book in this series. I think it has been written for a mid teen plus audience, but it fully captured my 57 year old imagination and attention.
Absolutely loved this book, great storyline, characters and magic system. The only critic is I think the author repeated himself. There was apart of the book where Titan got introduced twice to the mages.
