There are people who live every day of their lives striving for perfection. They have to be better than the person beside them or they die unfulfilled. There are other people who struggle to keep up with the latest definition of perfection and fail miserably. I learned at an early age that I fall into the latter category. It took me years to find my own path in life and I truly believed I’d discovered happiness. I got away from my overbearing family, moved to a new city where nobody knew me, met some great people, and even found the man I planned on spending the rest of my life with.
I thought I had everything under control until one rainy night when it all came crashing down around me.
My name is Alexandra Parker and I’m beginning to discover everything I ever thought I knew about my life is a lie.
Alexandra Parker has spent her entire life trying to escape her family and build an identity that was all her own. For once, she believed she had it all figured out and completely under control. One night and six months changes everything and Alexandra is forced to start from scratch yet again.
Writing has always been my "thing". It's a necessity for me and no matter my mood, it has the power to take me away from reality. Whether it be fantasy, horror, mystery, or a love story, I'm into all of it and only now am I starting to get into my stride and I'm eager to see just how much further this little hobby of mine will take me.
Alexandra meets Eric after coming out of a 6 month longcoma, and sparks fly. She wants to take it slow because she can't remember the events that lead up to the events that caused the car crash that put her in the coma. Eric and Alex continue being friends and he helps her piece her life back and they can't deny their attraction to each other as the story develops.
Eric has his own hurts he is trying to overcome and Alex seems to help him, without even realizing it. It seems destiny put them together on that street corner, but of course, nothing can ever be that simple. Alex's ex Dylan gets to show up and complicate matters which throws them together.
I enjoyed the banter and I felt the connection between them, and the story had just enough "WTF is going on" for me to not want to cook dinner. Of course, the sweet revenge on bad family members is always a plus!
After her life is put on hold for 6 months, Alex is faced with some truths in her old life she wasn't expecting. With the curve-ball that life delivered, she had to find her own way. On her terms. She meets Eric and her life changes. I love Alex's dry sense of humor and Eric's wit. They're a great match with some fun conversations. Every time Alex thinks she has things figured out, something else comes her way. But she grows and becomes stronger than she thought she could be. The characters are likable and relatable. WR Kimble is a great storyteller. I'm a huge fan.
This story hit me right in the feels. When Alex wakes from a coma, she wakes to a world and people who have changed for the worst. The writing is fluid. Kimble does a wonderful balance between showing and telling. You feel the pain and betrayal. You feel the butterflies of beginning love. Eric is an absolutely amazing character. He's dominant yet tender, protective, and what a man should be in a relationship without him feeling boring. Kimble created Eric perfectly with all his quirks and occupation. Everything is manufactured so well by the author and then written beautifully.
