Drawn to another world at the behest of a goddess without hope, thrown into conflict to protect a people on the brink of destruction, and drawn into a conflict millennia old, Koda Burke should have been upset at the very least. But in exchange for answering the desperate pleas of Thera Ivorycrown, Koda has been given everything that he had wanted in his previous life and more. A people to call his own, a place to belong, and a purpose in his life. He even found love in the form of a spunky wolf beastfolk named Sienna, who had been by his side and supporting him the entire time. Thera was not content with just that as the reward for her champion, the last of a lost bloodline of warriors she had invested her own power into. She sent her own daughter, a demigoddess and primal spirit of the bear, to accompany and protect Koda, as well as join his family if they could connect. With the threat to Silverstone Vale and the Ivory Spear tribe handled within days of Koda’s arrival, he struck out into the world to ensure that there were no more nearby threats, and has pursued one to the nearest town in an effort to secure his people’s lands. Amberpost, the nearest trading partner to Silverstone, is under siege by a force of Crooked. The same Crooked who terrorized Silverstone and Koda cut his teeth fighting. But now they were in numbers that were impractical for Thera’s champion and his allies to fight face to face. First, they need to break the siege, then they need to rally the defenders of Amberpost to clear out their countryside. Only when the threat of the twisted monsters known as the Crooked are wiped from the world can Koda turn his gaze to the other duty and pleasure Thera has promised him. A family.
Ok, so I had to really work to finish this one. The first book wasn't bad and was easy to read. This book was a little frustrating. I know I'm reading a "harem" book, and I tend to skip the juvenile intimate parts of these books, but this one was way to much for my taste. I got sick of the the phrase "my mate" and the constant crass banter about sex. It felt like teenage boys w*t dream dialog. The plot got a little boring and the fighting felt just like it was on repeat.
Alternate universe, isekai, save the people and land, restore the goddess, harem adult situations
The cover for both novels was intriguing and attractive, but neither one matches the corresponding character. The wolf-girl from the first book is variously described as having red hair or red and black, similar to the coloring of her tail. The bear-girl of book 2 is huge, over six and a half feet, like a Scandinavian giantess, with a figure and strength to match. The girl on the cover is smaller and gracile. And she often has twigs and such in her thick hair.
We get a bit more background in this novel, and learn that besides the evil race of monsters that need killing, other fantasy races are also present on this world. Not as well done as Monster Girls in Space, but this series is nonetheless engaging. And magic again makes our male hero able to perform repeatedly without any refractory time. This is a fantasy, after all.
Above average editing. There are a few pots on the stove for the next novel to tackle. Will this small band make it back home? Will the two goddesses reconcile? What will the Baron's people do if they discover our heroes? What other sleeping beast goddesses will our hero awaken and add to his harem? Will the Baron's people take steps so that the corrupted dead invaders don't poison the land? I will buy and read book 3 when it comes out.
Read it straight through. The action was fantastic and fast paced, just liked I wanted. Harem elements always put a grin on my face, but there could be more for my taste. Men always would like to see more of that. The female characters are great and I can't wait to see how they develop. I'm really wanting to see how our hero powers up. I'm rather hoping he gets some cook magic gifts and armor along with his power growing. I would really recommend this book to anyone who lives this genre, yoy won't put it down. Please put it out on Audible immediately for those of us that can't really read anymore, like me due to head trauma. Great Job!!!
This book captures you from the very beginning. It will not let you go and you'll be up late at night without realizing you are still reading. The twist and turns of this book are wonderful. Definitely a must read if you enjoyed the first book, you'll definitely enjoy this one even more.
There are a few stutters in the writing that pulled me out of the story while I figured out what was intended, but not enough to make me quit reading. The crooked are an interesting and ever growing nemesis. The world is also steadily expanding into new regions and races.
4.5 stars. Did what it does well, and was good pulp fantasy. The harem bits aren't overdone (tho it looks like it's gonna get unweildy by book 3) and the pacing is good.
We get an idea of the larger scale of events in this world here, and I appreciate that the MC and party are not the biggest movers in the region. Everyone getting worn down with the relentless pace is a good touch. On to book 3 when it comes out in a couple of weeks.
This book likes its 1st installment brings you into an enchanting world with never ending action romance and amazing characters!! I couldn’t put it down!!! My only regret is. I finished it and now have to wait for the third installment!!
The pacing is pretty fast here but the book was excellent. I am enjoying the characters and how the story is developing. Be on the lookout for other works by this author
