Clover: A Contemporary Lesbian Romance

Rate this book
The story about two women who have absolutely nothing in common…

Eleanor Banson is a top real estate agent in the Los Angeles area. At 42-years-old, she has her life set up exactly the way she likes it, and her lovely home in Elysian Heights is her sanctuary, where she can close herself off from the world, and enjoy being alone.
Well, not too alone.
She does have needs…
To that end, Eleanor keeps her bed warm by bringing home beautiful and willing women for nights of passion rather frequently. But she makes sure not to form any attachments with them. Ever since her divorce several years ago, she prefers the freedom of being single, and has no plans to find a lifelong mate…

Clover Glattfelder is 19-years-old. A new arrival to California, she traveled to Los Angeles in a dilapidated old van with her three best friends only a short while ago, all the way from Pennsylvania. She is very much a free spirit, and has very simple needs. She always wants to see the best in anybody she meets, and is happy about…well, everything!
Each day is a gift to Clover. Each new person is a potential friend. And each breath of air in the California sunshine is a pleasure to be enjoyed.

When Clover ends up trusting somebody a little too much, however, she finds herself in front of a stranger’s house.
A beautiful stranger, as it turns out, who is about to leave to go to work…

It will be a life-changing experience for both of them.

“Clover” is a delightful lesbian romance novel by Sabrina Kane, which tells the story of the unlikeliest pair of women to ever meet. Once again, Sabrina takes you out of the Carlsbad Village universe, this time bringing you to the big city of Los Angeles!
As usual, you will find yourself laughing out loud and enjoying an angst-free sapphic love story, filled with characters you will come to adore…as well as the trademark Sabrina Kane steaminess.

And in the end, “Clover” will remain with you for a long time after the last page is read.

✔Sapphic Book Bingo Challenge 2025 🌈✨: Main Board - Combines 2 tropes you love (Age Gap + Opposites Attract)

5 stars. Okay, let's just get to the elephant in the room immediately. This age gap is WILD. It's between a 19 year old Clover and a 42 year old Eleanor. Yep. You would be correct if you guessed that this out of pocket ass age gap is the reason I picked this up and no, I don't need your judgment, thanks.

There, now that that's out of the way oh my gawd I loved this! Oh, Clover, my sweet summer child. I was terrified that she was going to be a Manic Pixie Dream Girl but she's not thank goodness. She's very free spirited and a go with the flow type of person. Her and her best friend own a cannabis dispensary which I thought was an interesting job for an MC to have and it really fit her character so well. Clover is incredibly wise and mature for her age but she definitely had her moments where her age shined through. She's very much a laid back character who doesn't let things get her down. Eleanor on the other hand is more buttoned up. She's not an Ice Queen but she is a bit by the book and closed off. Clover wears her heart on her sleeve whereas Eleanor has been hurt before by her ex wife so she keeps things close to her chest. These two couldn't be more opposite if they tried but Kane really made all of this work.

The romance is so good. It's very low angst and there's no third act break up. There's no big drama except for Eleanor's internal panicking over the age gap but on Clover's end she's completely locked in and doesn't let Eleanor's insecurities get in the way at all and I liked that. The chemistry between them was so good and with the way that Clover just sweeps into Eleanor's life and knocks things off of its axis was my favorite thing to watch. Clover was exactly what Eleanor needed. They worked really well together and the spice. Whew! It's plentiful and it's sexy.

Real talk I would've been side eyeing the hell out of Eleanor just like her friends were if I knew her in real life but again Kane really sold me on this romance. I believed in them as a couple and it also helps that this was just really cozy and fun. I would for sure read it again. If you can overlook the age gap I'd highly recommend this one.

DNF at 80%

This put me into a huge reading slump.
I haven't read in 22 days because I just didn't want to pick this up.
So I'm deciding to DNF.

I normally really like age gaps so I was intrigued and thought I wouldn't mind the age gap...I was wrong.
Clover is younger than me, which already makes me uncomfortable.
There was a LOT of spice, which made me rather uncomfortable considering her age.
Yes I know having sex at 19 is "normal", but it still makes me uncomfortable.
I don't like Clover, Eleanor was fine but the fact she even thinks about a 19 year old in that way was kinda icky.
I believe the age gap alone wouldn't have been a problem, but the execution gave me the ick for a big part of this.

Of course this is just personal preference and also my own fault for picking it up in the first place.
But like I said, normally I don't mind age gaps.
Had I know this book was this spicy, I wouldn't have picked it up.
If they would have gotten to know each other, develop feelings and then have sex - things would've been fine.
But the fact their relationship started with just sex (and a lot of it) no thank you

Another absolutely amazing book by SK.
What’s not to love about these wonderful characters. The only downside for me is Eleanor’s reluctance to accept the relationship, saying that, it’s also understandable. Clover is a breath of fresh air and slowly, very slowly helps Eleanor realise that life is for living. The addition of Echo is perfect, it shows us from the very beginning that Eleanor has a soft side.
Along with all the added humour, this is definitely in my top 10 favourites.
This book certainly starts with a bang! That first chapter had my heart racing. Being an SK book, that wasn’t the only time I had an elevated heart rate.

Can’t wait for the next one!

Clover and Ellie ❤️

I always enjoy Sabrina Kane's books.

This was a little different. - an age-gap, very opposites attract romance, but it works! Especially when you add the author's signature low/no augst, high-steam spice, California vibe to the story - you get an easygoing, fun, enjoyable read! Ellie and Clover were great characters. Their friends were great too, in which I hope we get some stories of them to follow!🤞

Not your typical Sabrina Kane, but a worthy read!
It really is a generational clash as Clover's ebullience smashes headlong into Eleanor's practicality - with possibly predictable results (this IS Sabrina; she doesn't do angst).
You'll get your share of smiles from this - along with a few 'ah-ha!' moments, too.

I read this book in 2 days, it was so great I couldn’t put it down! This book is definitely one of my top Sabrina Kane books. She writes so well and I love the humor/banter between both Clover and Eleanor. All around super cute and spicy read!!

The two lead characters in this book were so likeable. I loved the different perspectives on their relationship and how wise Clover was and her calming influence on Ellie. In true Sabrina Kane style there was a decent level of spice as well. I enjoyed this book so much and was sad for it to end.

A Rather Large Age Gap Relationship

A fascinating tale of romantic human relationships and their many variables. Add in "wild card" scenarios and it makes many stop to consider alternatives. Comtemplative and humorous!

This was a really sweet and fun story. Clover was such a ball of sunshine that I’m tempted to call it grumpy/sunshine, except Eleanor wasn’t really grumpy — only in comparison to Clover! More… conservative, perhaps.

So I’ll go right for the elephant in the room: which is that the 19-42 age gap advertised in the blurb sounded outrageous. I mean, at best! Though I did like Mistakes Were Made and that couldn’t have been different by more than a few years? So the question is, would it work. And I think it did! I think it worked for two reasons — first, the story actually made a big deal out of it and addressed it head-on, rather than kind of sweeping it under the rug. And second, they promised each other a now and a soon, and didn’t look too far ahead or promise a forever. I thought that made a lot of sense; it’s not that I didn’t believe they might ultimately last much longer, it’s that you don’t have to in order to buy into the story.

Anyway, Clover truly was a ray of sunshine shining right into Ellie’s life, helping her get back to living in the moment and appreciating the simple things. Not to the exclusion of Ellie’s life or business, but in a very sweet way that made it feel like Clover helped Ellie reclaim lost parts of herself, and find more balance in her life. And while there was some drama in the story, it was lowish angst on the whole… again a nice balance where there was enough tension to keep the story moving but not too much more.

Plus, I laughed out loud many times during this book! All in all this is my first Sabrina Kane, and I think it won’t be the last.

P.S. Just happy Clover didn’t refer to 80s music as “oldies.” That might have been a dealbreaker.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this one. I hadn't been at all impressed by other books from Kane I'd read, so I went into this one with quite low expectations. But it was actually one of the better books I've read recently.

Clover was a delightful character. I've found that when authors try to write a carefree and whimsical lead rhey often end up being laissez-faire to the point of becoming annoying. I think Kane balanced Clover's free spirit with her rational thinking quite well, to be honest.

I think Eleanor's character could have been developed further. Her transition from being annoyed by Clover to seeing her as a romantic interest wasn't super clear to me, and I didn't find her as compelling of a lead as Clover. I think the novel could have included a scene or two of Eleanor being questioned on her intentions with Clover by the latter's friends or family, so we could understand her motivations better.

Overall though, it wasn't bad at all. I hope we get a sequel seeing where these two end up, or at least some more novels from Kane of the same calibre.

Edit 17/5/2025: The author was a man, who catfished many other authors :(
