My next book!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN’T BELIEVE I DID IT. I WROTE ANOTHER BOOK!!!!!! I’m so happy right now 🥹🥹. 15 year old writer for the win!!!
(I am kinda annoyed that Amazon thought ‘Breckett’ was spelled ‘Bracket’ though 😑) (Also, the girl’s name is Clair, not Claire!!)
Other than that, I CANT WAIT FOR EVERYONE TO READ IT!!!

My 12 yr old sister Juliette’s review:

OH. MY. GOSH.
I loved this book so much I am definitely waiting for the second one to come out. This had so much suspense and twists in it, it blew my head off with anger and confusion.

Now we can start discussing the characters:
Breckett: His character is amazingly awesome. He was kind of annoying at first but then I got used to him and started shipping him and Clair. Now they are the best power couple ever 🥹(BRECKETT, I LOVE YOU)

Nate: I HATE HIM SOO MUCH. At first, he was a good character and I started shipping him and Clair but since I started learning a little bit more about his character, he did not grow on me after that. He shrank and shrank and shrank in my view and he DESERVED to have that polar bears attack him. *Disclaimer* Nate is a big butt witch monkey .

Clair: Her character was iffy. I didn’t like the fact that she called people Populars, which was kind of annoying, but then, I understood WHY she was calling people that and I get her a bit more. Her character was also funny and I liked she had some sarcasm as well (she’s in my top 3 characters!)

Sol: THIS GIRL IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER. I loved how chill but upbeat she was. Her humor makes her better than all the characters. A lot lot lot better. She deserved so much better than Carlos! (Sol is #1 favorite character)

Carlos: No comment. He is ugly and mean. 😡😡

Branson: let’s hear it everybody: Branson was everyone’s favorite character from the very beginning. And those purple notes he sent to Clair were just AMAZING AND CUTE!! (Im kinda sad that Branson himself didn’t get more time in the book…)

Aurelia: I. Hate. Her. So. Much. Worse than Nate!! I hated her personality from the start. She was a snitch, a pick me, and a stuck up snob that got in the way of Breckett and Clair. Plus, Breckett didn’t even like her! Whoever says Aurelia is their favorite character will not live 😡😑

Overall, the book was really interesting and I LOVED the drama, especially Clair’s love square🤩. Also, thank you sissy for putting me in the acknowledgments 😊. One thing I didn’t like about the book is that some characters didn’t have a point at all, like some security guards. And the editing errors were HORRENDOUSLY BAD 😌. The end.

Polar Bear: Good boy for attacking Nate. I is proud 👍🏻
~~~~~~
Ok, I’m back, she did a surprisingly good review 😆😅. She also said to read her book too once she publishes it😂.
Clair Hart hates deep water. She has an intense fear of deep waters due to almost drowning. But here's the catch: she's going on a freaking cruise with her parents. And to make matters worse, she won't get to go to Chemistry Camp. Her mother wants her to focus on something other than science. But Clair will find a lot more than just fear and disappointment on this cruise. She might just find true love.
My expectation for this book: Okay, this looks cute. I think I'd enjoy this. Four stars at most.
What I got: KLJSGHOSDIJOFI!!!! O.M.GOSH! This is so freaking adorable I love it love it love it!!! 😍
This story actually reminds me of a movie I watched a few times called Back Of the Net about a science geek (not unlike Clair) who is going to a science camp on a cruise but ends up accidentally going on the bus to a soccer camp. This book kinda felt like that but twisted a little bit and in reverse. Idk, maybe its just me 🤷🏻‍♀️
˚。⋆🛳️˚。⋆What I liked
🌊Breckett is GOAT. I love him so much. I did not expect to love him so much, but he's certainly top tier boyfriend material. When I imagine what my future significant other is going to be like, I see Breckett. Emily, you put a face and name to my dream boyfriend! 😭
🌊All the different friendships! I liked that Clair, though she's antisocial, wasn't super awkward. She could still make friends, just not as well as others, which feels like a very accurate representation of being an introvert
🌊The flashbacks. The chocolate flower. The purple teddy bear!!!!
🌊That kiss scene by the waterfall. *Clears throat* AHH! that was so cute. This was my reaction:
🌊Boy oh boy this was addicting. I started reading it one night and was up probably until three before I fell asleep, and then finished it the next day. I was sucked into the story and I didn't want to leave.
🌊The epilogue 🥹
🧬Just some grammatical issues, typos, and awkward sentence structures and some formatting issues, but that has zilch to do with the actual story, so I'm not going to deduct points for that. I hardly noticed it most of the time, bc I was too invested in the story
now playing: history - one direction
12+
romance: 5/10 (a few kisses, flirting, banter. There’s not rlly any innuendo. It’s just really sweet and fluffy)
cursing: 1/10 (there were a few times when the character said “witch” or “freaking” and then in parentheses it said “but replace that with the swear word” which I thought was funny)
violence: 4/10 (at the end of the book, Nate gets mauled by a polar bear. We don’t ever see how it happens and it’s not very described when he does show up on page. Clair almost drowns from being pushed down a waterfall)
other: characters consume alcohol underage and get drunk. Clair’s father is an addict
tropes: love triangle, vacation romance, rich boy, childhood best friends
tw: divorce, alcoholism
first person, past and present tense
(the book has frequent flashbacks that are written in past tense)
“you and me got a whole lot of history”
OVERVIEW
Ok, but like this book was so cute. I sat down on page 29 and read until I finished it. It was ADDICTING just like Emily’s other book.
The writing was definitely a lot better than the last book, she really improved over the two years between these books.
Although there were some typos, awkward sentence structures, and the like that I noticed while reading. It felt like the editing process was rushed. Though, I’m not blaming her, she did publish this book at my request…. 😅
If I had read it before publishing I would have highlighted them all but I didn’t bc I was reading for enjoyment and it’s too late to fix them anyway lolll
I loved the characters in this book even more than the last, and honestly I can’t wait for the rest of the series. YA HEAR EMILY? I need you to get cracking 👏 chop 👏 chop. You have a devoted fan.
There were parts of the story that weren’t the most realistic, but let’s bsfr rn. How realistic are you going to get from a love triangle romcom? I did feel like I didn’t quite understand why everyone had it for Clair (I personally didn’t like her), and the climax hiking scene was a little… idek. It was definitely unexpected. I’m just wondering what happened to the polar bear being an injured baby. I was totally expecting Clair to bring it to a wildlife vet 😭😭😭
I loved the book and the music references sprinkled throughout. I also love Clair/Emily’s taste in music. (fun fact, I met Emily when we were geeking out about music together)
Idk why, but on my kindle, the cover is flipped sideways? 😭
Also… the hair on the cover is a very creative take….
“we could be the greatest team that the world has ever seen”
PLOT
Clair Hart suffers from the fear of deep water (I’m not even going to try to spell it), so what could possibly be a better vacation than going on a cruise? Especially when said cruise is taking place over Chemistry Camp. But when she gets to the cruise ship, she begins to notice that not everyone on board are strangers. In fact, one of them is her childhood best friend, who she has had a long time crush on. But when she discovers a purple post it note on her door, she finds that her other long standing crush was also on board. What could happen in a game of love and cruise lines?
(oh my word. I think that’s the worst one I’ve ever written. I’m sorry for your eyes 🫠)
“you and me got a whole lot of history”
CHARACTERS
CLAIRBEAR genuinely, she was wildly annoying most of the book. I kept yelling at her when she would make a stupid choice (COUGH like going hiking with Nate when she has a BOYFRIEND COUGH HACK WHEEZE). I also honestly have no clue what she looks like, blond curly hair? I THINK. And gray-blue eyes that she’s so adamant are ugly. Girlie, try having eyes the color of dirty mop water.
BRECKETT HE’S MY BAE. AND I STAKE FULL CLAIM ON HIM BEHIND EMILY. Literally, if he was real I would marry this man. He’s everything. He almost reminds me of Jameson Hawthorne, except less riddle oriented. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love. I’m in love.
Did you hear that? I’M IN LOVE.
He’s kind and considerate, and the panic attack/mental breakdown scenes had me ON THE FLOOR.
Breckett 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️
NATE he can die. Never once was I on Team Nate, but the ending solidified my hatred of him. WHO THE FRICK DOES THAT? 😤😤
BRANSON we see him, like, never? But practically from page one I was team Branson
‼️SPOILER‼️
You have been forewarned.
Okay so rq, as soon as Breckett and Clair had their first real conversation, I guessed that Breckett and Branson were the same person. Sorry Em! You weren’t exactly subtle! 😭🫠
I know you thought that would be shocking, but what I was more shocked abt is that it took Clair so long to find out what I figured out in .05 seconds.
‼️END SPOILER‼️
SOL she was literally so sweet and I loved her and how she was always reading. She reminded me a lot of myself. But I’m DYING to know what happens with Carlos!! Did they stay together? Did he get thrown in jail (not including the cruise jail) where he belongs? The questions I have! Please hurry with the next book 🙏😭
“so don’t let it go”
QUOTES
Check my highlights!
“we can make some more”
CONCLUSION
READ IT. please. I’m BEGGINGGGGGG
Whattttt the frikity frack did I just read! 🤯✨This book is not only a really cute rom-com but it is written by a teenager who also happens to be my cousin!! (I was with her every step of the way writing this book, your welcome Emily!😁)
✧.* 𝑷𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚 *.✧
Even though I helped with it, I still think this book is an absolute MASTERPIECE! ✨💋I loved it, from the way it involves cute loving characters (EXCEPT NATE😒), to the MOST INSANE PLOT TWIST EVER🤯. When Emily told me what happened, even I was shocked!
Basically, Clair is scared of water💦 but EVEN THOUGH her parents know that, they STILL forced her to go on a cruise🙄😬! Any way, she goes on the cruise and figures out that her childhood bff is there and she makes it her mission to find him. While looking for him she meets this HOT🥵 guy named Breckett who is sweet and caring and you can guess what happened after that………❤️✨
LOVED HER!💖 I relate to her so much and she is literally such a unique character! I like these types of characters because everything they do feels real! She feels like someone from my actual life! It all felt so real! ✨
╰►Breckett
UMM STOP 🛑
WHY IS THIS MAN SO FREAKING HOT! 🤯🥵I have a lot of book bfs but he is honestly the most realistic one yet! He sweet, charming, charismatic, and basically everything you would want in a man (yes a MAN bc this guy is no boy😝!)
╰►Nate
🤣HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA🤣
nope😤
╰►Branson
Don't see him that much but he is still a fine man!❤️💋
╰►Sol
Literally has the EXACT personality of my bff and I loved her! She is so sweet and the entire page brightened when she came in!☀️
not only didn’t finish but COULDN’T finish.
congratulations on being a ‘published author’, but imo you could have waited and perfected the art before publishing.
i said this from the beginning — this feels written by someone well under 18. (it is.)
i not only dnf’d but i also dnr (do not recommend).
this was a BOTM read for a group i’m in and it seems like it was placed there because it was a friend’s writing. 🤷🏼‍♀️ unconfirmed, but definitely not out of the realm of the possibility.
i’m giving ⭐️ one star because of the writing.
continue to work on your writing and i look forward to giving you another chance in the future. you can only go up from here! 💟
i rarely write worthy reviews but here goes!! and it's not even gonna be that long dw...
things i really liked-
-clair was amazing!! at first she was a bit annoying but then she got to be really fun and relatable!!
- i LOVE her mom!!!
- the flashbacks were so good!!
- i LOVE branson
-the nickname heheh
-the plot was a little bit repetitive, but still really good and interesting
- the mental health rep!!!
- nothing past kissing
- she faced her fear
- the chapters keeping up with days 😅
things i didn't like so much
- little inconsistencies throughout the book (what port they're in, the color of peoples eyes, one time someone's name, just things that kinda took me out of the experience...)
- nate
- her dad
- the drinking (even though it was really funny)
- how tons of sentences-like all through the book-would have-multiple times per chapter-sentence breaks like what i was just doing. it was just a lot and sometimes didn't make a lot of sense 😂
ALSO
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY
THAT I GOT THE PLOT TWIST ONLY 20% THROUGH THE BOOK!!! AND I WAS CALLING IT OUT EVERY TIME IT WAS HINTED AT!!! IT WAS SO FUN I LOVED IT SM!!!
this was a great and delightful read!! definitely some room for improvement, but overall it was an AMAZING book!!!!
Curly Hair is my Melting Point by Emily Guernsey
Rating: Two and a half - three stars.
Language/Profanity: Heck; freaking; dang it; geez; calling people witches; mentions of people cursing.
Faith: None.
Romance/Sex: Kissing; wanting to kiss; putting a arm around someone; admiring shirtless guys;
Violence ect.: A fight; blood (barley mentioned); hypothermia; heart attack.
Other: Underaged drinking; adults getting drunk; absentee fathers; divorced parents; mention of a bikini (not worn, just suggested to wear it); lying; disobedience; and calling a mother a lyier (I don't know if that part was serious or not.)
Part of a Series: Yes, a standalone in a series of three that is not yet completed.
Synopsis:
Meet Claire, a science geek girl who finds herself in the middle of a whirlwind when her childhood friend and a crush Nate kisses another girl. as if that’s not enough, Clair who has a fear of deep water get sent on a cruise with her mother and mostly absent father. Complications arise when they end up on the same cruise, acting like his kiss with the girl never happened. Then she crosses paths with bracket a popular hot and annoying guy who she can’t deny she’s attracted to. When she learns earth shattering news and starts receiving mysterious purple letters, she starts leaning on the guys for support as she struggles to come to terms with family issues and which guy she should choose.
Get ready for a thrilling ride as flashbacks every two chapters unveil Clair’s past, stirring up emotions that will have you cheering for her and the other characters, while despising the ones you love to hate, right up to the gripping twist and finale.
Thoughts:
This is a pretty good book, it just didn't really catch me that much. Starting with the language... I know that most people don't think that is bad language, but for I am honestly uncomfortable with it. Then there is the fact that people were called witches (and that was in place of a worse word). Just not for me.
Also I was uncomfortable with the underage drinking, (and the fact that they didn't get in trouble for it).
Also, without spoiling it, the heart attack recovery was too quick in my opinion. The heart attack victim had just woken up from being unconscious for at least a day and immediately went to surf.
BUT. The way it was written did draw me in, keeping me going to see what had happened in the 'Incidents', and how everything would play out. I liked Branson with his care for his siblings.
Favorite character: Branson
Part: The epilogue.
I wanted to post what I thought about this book for the author, one of my best friends. I was lucky to be one of the first people to read this book, and I LOVED it!
The author described the characters in depth. I really liked the backstory that she wrote for the main character so that you can understand stand what she is going through. It had me hooked, and I didn’t want to stop reading.
Whether she’s a first time author or not, it was a truly wonderful book. It was a very well written romance novel that I would recommend to everyone. I can’t wait to see more books published by Emily Guernsey!
A wonderful story with vivid characters, exciting plot twists, and intriguing romance!
Clair was such a fun character-love her snark and her sass, her humor and her grumpy moments-and her pov voice was really strong!
Sol was BY FAR my favorite character-I love her so much! She's so funny, smart, and sweet!
The writing flowed well and the characters were super well developed! I loved the details and the character voice! I had to FORCE myself to stop reading at night-I had to get sleep and be rested-but it was a STRUGGLE, I'll tell you! It was an exciting book, and emotional rollercoaster, and a sweet story too!
Emily Guernsey is such a wonderful author! Her writing has grown so much between her two books, and I cannot wait to read whatever she writes next! Thank you, Emily Guernsey for such an amazing story!
OMGOSHHH THIS WAS SO GOOD!!! I couldn't put it down, and it was soooo much fun!! And that cover makes sooooo much sense once you've read the book!!
Claire kind of annoyed me at times... but I can see why she was frustrated about having to go on the cruise instead of the science camp. And her thing with the "populars" was somewhat annoying, but it made a little more sense the more that I read. She almost died, after all!
Her character arc was great, though!! I like her sense of humor, and how witty/saracastic she can be!!
I wanted to whack her head with a 1400 page book at times, though. Especially when she's considering choosing Nate...
I felt really bad for her at times, especially with her dad and how he isn't there for her.... Her character was developed very well, though, and her quirks and random things about her made her seem realistic!!
And Breckett... WAS AMAZING AND PERFECT FOR CLAIRE AND HE WAS LITERALLY PERFECT!! I WAS TEAM BRECKETT FROM THE FIRST CONVO THEY HAD!! But speaking of the first convo they had, I did
But I don't careeeee if some parts were somewhat predictable IT WAS A ROMCOM FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!! ROM COMS ARE ALWAYS KIND OF PREDICTABLE!!
And as for Nate....
He can go die in a hole that is filled with aggressive starving polar bears that haven't eaten in months. 🫠
He DESERVED what he got at the end!!!
Branson was great!!!
I didn't like Carlos much... like he was drinking underage than
I feel like Claire should've been in the hospital longer after she had a and shouldn't have been allowed to surf yet... and there were some minor typos and awkwardly worded sentences, but it didn't make me enjoy the story any less!!
The love triangle was really annoying me... I don't usually like love triangles unless they are written a certain way... and this one definitely frustrated me. But I still loved the story!!
And that epilogue.... 🥺
I REALLY enjoyed this, and it was a lot of fun!! I'd definitely reccomend it, and can't wait for book two!! (if there's going to be a book two!! I need another book in the series 🥺)
I absolutely loved this book. My sister did so good 😭
MY REVIEW:
I loved the whole story line and the twist. The main character, Clair, was one of my favorite characters. She was just amazingness in the story! I loved that Breckett was always there and nice to her throughout the whole story, and the fact that he called her ice queen was so cute 😭❤️. Breckett’s character was halarious and he is such a sweetheart. Everyone will always love this guy ✨ Nate- I hate Nate sm. He was Clair’s friend to begin with but then he: made out with Jenna, did some questionable things, and left Clair alone with that bear. UGH! Hate that guy.
Twist- Loved it! I wasn’t expecting that Breckett was actually Branson, or the fact that he was actually some famous guy Clair knew nothing about. Their romance was so cute! UGHHHAHAHHH. That’s what I think about the book for my little short review. Good job sis!
3.5⭐️
This was a very cute read, there were things that I really liked and things I didn’t like. So let’s start off with what I did like….
Things I liked:
1. I LOVED Breckett(he was the best!!)
2. The epilogue it was soooo cute! (I do wish it was longer though!!)
3. I love that she got everything right with her parents at the end.🥲
4. I really liked Sol! She was such a good friend!😄
5. I loved the all of the movie and song references.
6. I really loved Clair and Breckett (I wish we got to see more of them!)
Things I didn’t like:
1. It would really confuse me when Clair would make little comments to the reader when she was explaining the story to us and not putting it in parentheses or smaller print.
2. There were a few grammatical errors and wrong references, but they didn’t really bother me.
3. I feel like the story needed more of the dad, it just felt out of nowhere that he decided to change after not even saying anything the entire time on the cruise…..
4. I didn’t like when the characters got drunk (it’s just a personal preference of mine 🫤)
Anyway this was a very cute book and I’m so proud of the author for writing and publishing this at 14 years old!!(I could never!😭) She has a very good future ahead of her!🩷 I wish her the best of blessings!!🩷
P.S. Sorry about my little rant, the spelling perfectionist in me came out!
