30% progress: Jesus freaking Christ. The BBS on this girl. She’s literally a lovesick puppy completely obsessed with Damian. He never initiaties anything with her and makes fun of her but he’s the love of her life??? Eye roll. If I have to read one more time how her body shivers, how she trembles with need, or the pounding of her heart. I’m so ready to throw this book across the room. I honestly think she’s mentally unstable.
46% River is SO emotional. I teeter between eye rolling and genuinely worried about her mental well being. She’s crying every few pages. She’s so so love starved and loves her dad and Damian who both seem like POS half the time.
Okay finished. Almost 700 pages later and all I can say is that I didn’t know someone could cry so much.

IM AMAZED BY THIS BOOK!! TOTALLY!!! I’m totally in love. The plot of this book was so freaking good and crazyyyy I was on the edge of my seat for the entire duration of this freaking book like how can something be so good 😩 The tension the spice was a 10/10 for me. I stayed overnight to finish this story cause it was soo good it had me hooked on totally and the moment I tired to sleep I couldn’t sleep cause god I just kept thinking abt the story and plotting in my head lol 😂 and the next morning the same thing. Yeah I was taht hooked onto it. The characters were very well written and the character development was very well written aswell. This book made me cry and loved how it talked abt real marriage problems and how it was a slow burn and journey to get there it was refreshing to read about as it is a real issue in some peoples marriage life. I truly adore this book and I can’t wait to read more of the authors books. It was truly inspiring and portrayed that for a marriage to work communication is really important.

Damn, the way I loved this book, and would love to reread it again, but then the mystery and everything would just feel predictable. I was reading another book, but this one stormed right in my face and said, ”read me first! ” and i’m so glad I did, damein is cold, broody at first, but when he is with river, his walls start to fall, since it’s a slow burn, it unravels SLOWLY, and gradually you’ll see how much he adores river. The book goes back and forth taking us between the past and the present, until the end, but it is so damn worth it, because Damian had me in his hold and i’d never read other books in the series, because this man has left a mark on me, and i never wanna go back. Damian may have married river for revenge, but she was the only person to see him, truly and was the light of his life, i really loved the characters. The story, the twists, damian’s own way of taking care of river, i loved everything. His one dialogue, ”did you eat? Have you eaten? ” and making sure river eats. I wanted to punch and hug this man simultaneously, thankyou Damian for making me fall for you too, like river did.
Overall : this story is the best romance story i’ve read from am Indian author in such a long time, and I am so passionately indulged in this story, i couldn’t sleep, my body is still aching, but this book was worth it. Big thanks to the authors Sanjana and Nidhi for writing this story.

characters : river — she was soft, kind, loving, extremely obsessed with Damien, so at first, she’d come off as a boring or annoying character, but then, I thought about myself and then, I realised that I was once like her, too trusting and vulnerable, she adores damian, he’s her first love, first kiss, so she is attached to him, and loves him, but then she doesn’t see the horrible things that were happening behind her back, her so called father staging the act of “perfect” father, not knowing there was a murder committed and nobody knew until matt tells her about it. She’s heartbroken when she’s tired of making their marriage work, because before marriage, Damian showed that he loved her, but after their marriage, he was in denial, he wanted his revenge, but his feelings for her warred inside him, and he thought distancing himself from her would be best, but it backfires, because she wants to leave, and demand divorce, which he can’t let happen, because he loves her. The book begins with her running away from him, only to be found by him. It also alternates between the past and the present, which gives more information about what happened, their relationship, their marriage, and more details, it’s kinda confusing to remember everything, but as the story progresses, it gets easier to remember and read further. Damian suffered a lot, because river’s father destroyed his family, and he had nobody to rely on, the only person who saw him, loved him, when he had nobody was river, she’s his light in his dark world, but then it conflicts with her being the daughter of his parent’s killer.
Damian — still grew on me, because he’s tortured, but he’s loving, he shows care in his own way, in the end, he lets river have her space, but also protects her and asks her to come back to him, by winning her, but also respecting her boundaries. In the middle, it does get toxic, but in reality too, aren’t we too toxic when it comes to love? we turn blind to a lot of things because we love the person, the same happens in the story, and I loved Damian, so much that when I took breaks between reading the story, I thought I was watching a series, and then I recollected that I was reading a book, sanjana Nidhi both have written the book so well, from all the pov’s, it was a really good, easy, perfect paced read, one of my favorite Indian authors.
Summer — she was likeable, but not so much, because she was friends with river, and she helps river when she was hurt due to damian’s cold behaviour towards her.
I look forward to reading summer and Raleigh’s story, I read the books in reverse, the ruthless opponent is the first, the ruthless neighbour is the second, and this one is the last. I hope to see more stories from this author. this book JSUT flowed so well, I didn’t know and I was reading the 21st chapter, I loved the writing, it’s top tier, so structured and perfect, capturing each character’s feelings well, making the reader yearn for more. and oh, I was yearning for them.
I loved and hated Damian, but I do still love him somewhere in the corner of my heart. 💕

The best way to describe “My Ruthless Husband” would be to tell you that Damian is everything right and everything wrong in romance. I usually focus my reviews on the female protagonist for a reason - usually, the romance is about them, the focus is on them and the male character exists to please her. Damian is there to be the bane of River’s existence, which is funny because River is also the bane of Damian’s existence.
Most of the chapters are told through the POV of River, which could indicate that my review would focus on her. Her feelings, and her thoughts throughout the novel, but alas no. My focus will be more on Damian. You see while reading through River’s POV and her words, you would get the idea that Damian was a total a**hole who does not care for his wife. What the authors Sanjana Nidhi do, however, is that they make River express the feelings she’s having while showing, through Damian’s action, what he truly feels. Very early the reader realises that Damian is completely in love with his wife. So throughout the novel, we witness River being completely heartbroken by the notion that her husband does not love her, while through his actions and his words, we know he feels the opposite.
He warns her multiple times that he is not a good person, that once they’re married she will never be able to leave and that whoever touches her or harms her will suffer. He makes good on all those promises. He is indeed not a good person, he is controlling and he seeks revenge on everyone who has wronged him and his wife. He also makes sure to be at home between business trips to be with her, so that he is only apart from her when he has to. So when River realises that what she agreed to before marrying and the reality of those promises are two different worlds for which she was not prepared, it leads to her being completely overwhelmed and starting to stand up for herself.
River’s journey throughout the novel is interesting. Her family has money, she has had a great education and it is understandable that she falls for Damian. He is older, has an aura of danger around him and she has the fire to match him. In the chapters about where they meet and how their relationship develops before the marriage, we can see River being naïve and innocent in what Damian’s love entails. She honestly believes that life is just good and nothing bad will happen since she has everything she wants - Damian. The transformation she undergoes after finding out that being married to a man who is extremely ambitious and will stop at nothing to get what he wants is touching. I will alert you that River has some sort of ED since when she is very depressed, she refuses to eat and Damian is aware of that. He constantly asks her if she eats and orders food to be delivered. While the story does not revolve around that, it’s these little touches that make the story incredible.
The more River fights for herself and for what she wants in life, the more respect Damian has for her. We know he worships her in his own twisted way, but when life is done with her innocence, River and Damian simply bloom. Their chemistry is amazing. Damian’s words are extremely powerful and River wears her emotions on her sleeve.
Sanjana Nidhi have created an incredible narrative around the ups and downs of a relationship. “My Ruthless Husband” is what happens when love is just not enough. A marriage needs everything: trust, and communication, it should make us a better person. River helps Damian from destroying himself to work and get revenge while Damian helps River to stand up for herself and fight for what she wants.

" My Ruthless Husband " ~ The first Dark Romance novel I read and it didn't disappoint. I am so in love with it. A good amount of smut with a really good plot and the dialogues are just Chef's kiss. As a reader like me who is mostly on a reading slump, this book kept me on hook the whole time. Damian Montgomery, a mysterious man with a dark past and unpredictable mind. No one can understand what is going on in his mind. He's here for revenge and he will take it by hook or crook. River Gibson, a sunshine girl with everything one can get except Love. She's an introvert with no expectations from love until she met Damian and gave him her first kiss on her 18th Birthday. ( Ps - He's ten years older than her ) She thinks this is her happy ending, but what happens when they get married and his behaviour suddenly changes and she runs away from him on their first wedding anniversary. He gets her back and won't let her go.I really loved Damian's character when he became a sweetheart for her. Loved Summer and Victoria as well and about Hal, well its just complicated. I would really recommend you this book if you are new to Dark Romance.
The grovelling and the confession at the end of the book is what I loved the most.
Though I really wanted to see River to be emotionally independent but I guess that's what makes the book a bag full of feelings and emotions.
All in all loved the book. Damian is a ten.

Oh wow! I knew he loved her. I was all giddy when he started to show her that he was in love with her and that she was his world, but what sucked is that it wasn't until she ran away not once but twice before he started to realize it. The last time she ran away he finally told her his secret! Which mind you I had no clue was going to happen let alone what the secret was, but his doubt in her not believing him was what killed me. I also love how Sanjana Nidhi did the past and present chapters so we got the full backstory including Damian's backstory. I am so glad I read this because I could NOT stop smiling like an idiot or stop laughing and crying. The epilogue was my favorite chapter. He remarried her and gave her a fairytale wedding and knows about her surprise! Their love is one of my favorites.

I just loved this book. At the beginning of the book, the marriage between River and Damian is stormy. As the story continues with flashback scenes to the past , I felt sorry for the young naive 18 year River who falls in love. Damian, River's first love who is 12 years older, is controlling, dominating and an @@@. I felt sorry for Rivers as she "ran" after Damian and the life she led once she got married. However, after meeting Summer her friend [ book 2], she became a more stronger woman and stood up for herself. It turns out that there is a reason Damian behaved the way he did and it had to do with seeking revenge for his parent's death and the blame is River's father. This book has forgiveness and a HEA.
Book 1 and 2 of the series should be read in sequence as many of the characters appear in book 3 ie this book.
Reminder it is 4/5 🌶 for spicyness

Let me tell you I was hooked from the start I couldn’t put it down. This will have you at the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. This has secrets, twists, and emotional roller coaster. River is the daughter of Christopher Gibson of a multi-billionaire company. Her mother died at birth leaving her and her father. But her father was very distant and detached from her. Growing up all River wanted was love. She falls in love with Damian but little did she know that loving Damian came with secrets and emotional roller coaster. River is on the run from Damian her husband. Damian is a self-made billionaire and dangerous man out for revenge. 5/5 recommend it

Take the grovel from the last escape attempt and make it half the book. That's what I expected and hoped for, but instead I got a spineless FMC and an alpha asshole MMC. Still somewhat enjoyable with some good scenes and decent spice but I was a little disappointed.

I just finished this book in this series and the one thing I like about it is it talk about some real issue that are involved in marriage and a lot of people push it under the rug and just it go but this couple does not. Like I honestly feel about River she is losing herself in this marriage because of something that her father to his husband before anything bad happened between them. She just want to be loved by someone and they slowing start falling in love with each other again.
