ANYA MEHRA
For years, I've been the girl who follows the rules-a perfect student, a good daughter, and the one who dreams of making her father proud. All I've ever wanted is for him to see me, to take my ideas seriously, and to believe I'm just as capable as my brother.

It's everything I thought I needed. Until him.

Daniel Grayson is the university's basketball captain, and he's the last person I expected to change my carefully laid plans. He's confident, determined, and so frustratingly charming that staying indifferent feels impossible.
They say you can't control every part of life, but I never expected my heart to go against my rules.

DANIEL GRAYSON
Basketball has always been my life. My passion, my dream, and my escape. But my dad doesn't see it that way. To him, it's just a phase, a distraction from the family business he wants me to take over.

It's everything I thought I'd ever fight for. Until her.

Anya Mehra is brilliant, focused, and so out of my league that I should've known better. Yet, the more time I spend with her, the more I realize she's what I've been missing. She's the one who makes me want to be more-on and off the court.
And now that I've found her, I don't plan on letting her go.

This is one of the cutest books I've read this year by far!
I loved Anya and Daniel so much!
Anya was so confident yet so soft-hearted, I really relate to her a lot and really loved her.

Daniel was so good, he was understanding and patient and he always put Anya's needs before his, and helped her grow out of her comfort zone his unwavering belief in her was amazing.

I loved how Anya learnt the rules of basketball for Daniel even though she doesn't like sports because she knows basketball means everything to him and how she supported Dylan in front of her father! Loved it 😌

And when Daniel bought her favourite gol gappe for Anya? The cutest thing ever! SC Jain is out there raising our standards.

Oh my god, this book was so good 😍😍. I was literally hooked from the first page itself. Everything was perfect about this book the banter between the couples was bantering ❤️, the mutual pinning between them, the friendships, the slow burn 🔥, the tension between them. Ahhh!! It was too good. Now let's talk about yhe characters.

Anya:
She was such so confident yet vulnerable at the same time. I mean I have read so many romance books over the years, but I think for the first time I could relate to a character soo much. Like the constant to need to seek academic validation which she was talking about even if our parents don't force us was so relatable. And then the constant comparisons between the siblings, then our continuous need to prove ourselves to them was also relatable. And also I think for the first I read a book where the girlfriend was a such green flag😍😍 I mean she bought flowers for him, and then memorized the rules of basketball for him even though she doesn't like sports, because she knows basketball means everything for him. And also the way she stands up for him infront of his father was also very satisfying 😌.

Daniel :
OMG!! 🔥❤️ Daniel the man you are!! He was sooo good, and he is literally a green forest. He is such a cocky and confident guy, who always said the most cheesiest things and loves to annoy Anya , but also at the same time he was so understanding and patient and he always puts Anya's needs before him❤️❤️. This guy literally not only memorized her coffee order, but learned the perfect way to make it. And then he also watched all the SRK movies which Anya recommended it him, just because Anya likes it, and not only that he literally recreated the scene of her favourite movie on their first date, and also bought her favourite food "golgappa" for her.. Arghh!! I really need a man like Daniel in my life❤️❤️❤️❤️ And also the way he understands her, and makes her feel valuable and helps her grow out of her comfort zone and his unwavering belief in her was amazing 😍😍😍✨️💕

Overall, I absolutely loved the book and cannot wait for the second one😍

Thank you so much @ Swipethebook.pr and @authorscjain for providing me with this ARC😍😍❤️

WHAT IN THE ESPRESSO BOOK WAS THIS‼️
(translation just like Espresso song became the most addictive song last year, this book and Daniel had the espresso effect on me)

Let me compose myself before I give the rest of the review cause I don't wanna give the translation for everything I say.

So right from the start this book had me on a chokehold because there's green flags and then there's DANIEL‼️He's no joke guys like you cannot read this book and not blush and giggle and squeal and kick your feet yes everything comes included in the package. I may or may not have literally highlighted everything this man says, and his povs whenever he sees her/thinks of her.

I loved the semi black cat energy of our cutest fmc Anya as well. The way she was so so relatable I cannot stress enough. It was beautiful to read how she works her insecurities and walls because let's just acknowledge Daniel is so damn worth it ‼️

My roman empire was the fact how Daniel worships her, comforts her, takes care of her and supported her. Even if her parents were the most supportive ones on earth no one can support her like Daniel. And don't we all want a man who looks at us like we are worthy of achieving great things?? (BRB crying)

Let me quote what exactly this man said (only at 30% in)

“You’re going to prove everyone wrong. You’re going to rule the world, and when you do, I’ll gladly kneel before you.”

Like OMG!! If this isn't enough for you to make you swoon on him, go get yourself checked up 👺

The support was totally both ways when Anya gets to know how his career relied on that one match let me tell you what she does
She holds on to her Ganesha necklace and says *please help him*. The way I sobbed. And ofc she wore his jersey 😭

Bonus pov:
*She doesn’t know how she turns my entire world upside down without even trying. It’s in the way she’s standing here, flushed and beautiful, not realizing that she’s the most breathtaking thing in this room—hell, the most breathtaking thing in my life.* ~swoon, right?~

PS. how to get on with my life now because I need me a Daniel Grayson😭

This book had me hooked from the very first page! The banter between Anya and Daniel was everything witty, flirty, and filled with the perfect amount of tension. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I loved watching their relationship evolve from playful annoyance to something so deep and real.

Anya was such a relatable character. She’s smart, ambitious, and confident, but she also struggles with insecurities and family expectations, which made her feel so authentic. The way she loved Daniel was just chef’s kiss she memorized basketball rules for him, bought him flowers, and always stood by his side. And when she stood up to his dad? Absolute queen behavior.

And Daniel?? I am officially obsessed. He was confident, cocky, and absolutely loved teasing Anya, but at the same time, he was the sweetest. The way he memorized her coffee order, watched all her favorite Bollywood movies, and even recreated a scene from one?? My heart could not handle it. He always put her first, and his love for her was just so pure.

The friendships in this book were another highlight! Siya and Sophie were the best best friends, and Arnav as the protective big brother was so fun to read. Also, the Desi girl × foreign boy romance was EVERYTHING watching Daniel fall in love with Anya’s culture along with her was just so wholesome.

This book was funny, romantic, emotional, and simply beautiful. I laughed, I swooned, I teared up a little, and I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommend!

3.75/5 ⭐️ rounded up
2.5/5 🌶️

What I loved : their romance!!
- This man thought his girl was cute for literally
* e v e r y t h i n g *. Anya could just exist, tie her hair, or drink water and Daniel would think she is cute. Like seriously. He had it down sooo bad for her.
- Their banter
- He’s her cheesy captain and she’s his firecracker
- How they supported one another
- He watches her favorite actors Bollywood movies and plans a thoughtful first date where they have a pani puri eating contest
- Daniel was so good at taking it slow and reading Anya’s cues for what she was ready for without pushing too fast
- He learned how to make her coffee order!!!!!
- She stood up for him despite how nervous she was to meet his dad.

There’s so much good romance. But most of the time (especially in the beginning) it read like a YA and then towards the end there started to be spicy scenes. While it didn’t feel out of place exactly the tone was inconsistent and it stood out. The wording kept taking me out of the flow as well; most of the book there are not many contractions and most people don’t talk like that so it kept throwing me off as I was imagining the scenes play out.

"I promise to do anything and everything to be who you deserve."

Thank you so much to Swipe the Book PR and the author S.C. Jain for gifting me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really wanted to love this book, because as a desi girl, I'm always trying to find books that have representation. Unfortunately, this book just didn't do it for me.

Starting with the positives, I adored Daniel, he's an honest green flag and too good for this world. I also loved Anya, she was so sweet and had a fun character. I just felt that the two of them lacked chemistry and I didn't like the progression of their relationship, it felt very unnatural. However, I did think it was so adorable that he watched all the Bollywood movies she liked, and supported her Shah Rukh Khan obsession! Oh and when he moved to a flat on the first floor because she got stuck in the elevator! So cute 🥹

I didn't particularly enjoy the writing style, and found it hard to process sentences as I was reading at times. This was particularly due to the lack of contractions, particularly in dialogue, when they could've easily been shorted to the commonly spoken versions. I think this demotivated me, ruined the flow of my reading, and it slowed down my reading process to the point I just wanted the book to be over.

I think the plot definitely lacked dimension as well, and I didn't like the complication and the ending that panned out after. It fell very short of my expectations and definitely had so much more potential. I also really think that Anya's relationship with her parents, specifically in regards to her brother was touched once, and ignored for the rest of the book, when it definitely could have been discussed more during the story.

Overall, I would recommend reading if you liked Luv Shuv in New York, because it gave the same vibes!

Before I begin I want to thank the author, S. C. Jain, for giving me this ARC.

I liked reading this; don't get me wrong, I just think it needed some more time. I liked the characters and the dynamics. This all felt a bit flat. It didn't really have a plot. Well, yes, there were some moments that there was a quote-unquote plot, but then after a few chapters, it was forgotten.

I know all of this sound pretty harsh but I'm just trying to be honest.

Overall I liked this but I also think it needed some more time to develop.

Firstly, thanks to the author for presenting me with the opportunity of reading this uh-mazing book!

My reviews could be biased bc I'm an indian and seeing a desi (brown FMC) made my heart dance in glee but hey it really is a great book, easily became my comfort book now and also works as a great palette cleaner for those who are in mood reading something cute, fluffy & sweet romance.

Yours Unexpectedly is a slow paced, slow burn, college romance with lots of witty banter, lots and lots of disgustingly sweet (in a good way) moments and amazing friendships.

[TW: The book also mentions panic attack, claustrophobia, the loss of parent and battling of cancer of a parent.]

Anya Mehra is an Indian student who moved to Pinecrest University in New York for her masters. She is a reserved, shy, caring, and protective towards her people. Unexpectedly bumping into an overly good looking and obnoxious Daniel Grayson, who happens to be the captain of university's basketball team has her in twists & she is determined to keep her heart safe.

Daniel Grayson is a sunshine in human form. Always smiling, helping people and putting others before himself.
So when he bumps into mysterious Anya Mehra, he wants to be selfish for once and have her all to himself.

Daniel is obsessed with her and when I say obsessed I mean OBSESSED with a capitol O. He is so in love with her argh you just can't not melt with everything he does for Anya. God, men in love are my fav genre of men! But that doesn't mean Anya is any less, she is insanely protective of him and is willingly to do anything to protect him from any harm, even if it means standing up against his father. You can see her love fiercely shining through!

I cannot stress enough on how much I loved this book. Anya and Daniel's first interaction had me hooked from the very start. You can feel the connection between these two characters flowing through the words, whether it be the simmering chemistry or the emotional connection. It's just there and I loved that. It made me feel closer to the characters. There were instances where I had goosebumps while reading one of their sweet moments and their open door steamy scenes.

So if you're looking for a comfort romance book with slow burn & college sports romance. GET THIS BOOK!

I absolutely adored Yours, Unexpectedly! The banter between Anya and Daniel was pure gold—witty, charged, and filled with the kind of tension that makes your heart race. Their chemistry was undeniable, but what I loved most was how their relationship evolved—from reluctant partners to an unshakable bond built on trust, understanding, and undeniable love.

Daniel was the definition of a dream male lead—cocky yet deeply caring, confident yet vulnerable in ways that made my heart ache for him. The way he stood by Anya, believed in her, and encouraged her every step of the way was just chef’s kiss. And Anya? She was a force of nature—brilliant, ambitious, and just the right amount of chaotic to make her feel so real. Her unwavering loyalty to Daniel, especially when she stood up to his father, had me screaming. You could feel her love for him in every little action, in every stolen glance, in every fierce moment of protection.

Beyond their romance, the friendships in this book made my heart so full. Siya and Sophie were the kind of best friends every girl deserves—supportive, hilarious, and always ready to hype Anya up. And Arnav? The overprotective, grumpy older brother with a secretly soft heart? I lived for his moments.

The writing was effortlessly engaging, balancing humor, heartache, and romance in a way that completely pulled me in. Every moment felt raw and authentic, making the story not just about love, but also about self-discovery, and the magic of unexpected connections.

And let’s talk about the Desi girl x foreign boy dynamic—it was EVERYTHING. Watching Daniel fall head over heels for Anya, embrace her world, and love every part of it? Absolutely swoon-worthy.

Daniel was so in love with Anya from the very start, and every little thing he did for her just melted my heart. And Anya? Her love burned just as fiercely, proving that when she loves, she loves.

This book was everything—funny, emotional, romantic, and so beautifully written. I laughed, I swooned, I teared up, and by the end, I didn’t want to let these characters go.

ARC REVIEW

THANK YOU @SWIPETHEBOOKPR AND @AUTHORSCJAIN for giving me this opportunity to read this beautiful book

Stars:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice:🌶🌶

"Yours, Unexpectedly" is a debut book, and the author gave us the greenest flag ever! There’s no third-act breakup, which I loved, and she seamlessly wove in bits of Desi culture—bonus points for the MMC embracing it *inserts applause gif*

It’s an easy 4-star read, and if you’re into the ‘I can do it myself’ girlfriend and ‘I know you can, but let me’ boyfriend energy, this one’s for you! It did not disappoint.

My favorite moments:
1. When Daniel Grayson set up a date inspired by one of her favorite movies—pure perfection! 🥹 *boy!! gives us some Peter kavinsky moments*
2. When he moved his entire house to the first floor because the last time she visited, she got stuck in an elevator and had a panic attack.
3. Chennai Express—the nostalgia hit so hard! It reminded me of my childhood. 😭

Daniel Grayson ahh, where do I even begin? He had me giggling, kicking my feet in the air, and absolutely melting... Swoon-worthy doesn’t even begin to cover it. He notices every single detail about her, and that just made me fall even harder

This man is the human embodiment of a green forest! Go read and see for yourself!

• "Firecracker, you're going to prove everyone wrong. You're going to rule the world, and when you do, I'll gladly kneel before you" •

Yours Unexpectedly is hands down the cutest romance story I’ve ever read. No drama, no heartbreak—just pure, swoon-worthy moments and the kind of love that makes you believe in soulmates. The story follows Anya and Daniel as they go from annoying each other to becoming each other’s anchor during tough times.

The entire time I was reading, I was giggling and kicking my feet. Every character felt so real and relatable, like I could see bits of myself in them. Anya’s obsession with crime documentaries? Same. Daniel’s people-pleasing personality? Been there. Siya’s social anxiety? Completely understood.

Now, let’s talk about Anya—she’s fierce, independent, and rarely lets her vulnerabilities show. Her character resonated so deeply with me that by the end of the book, I was convinced: I am Anya, and Anya is me. The fact that she can’t function without coffee and is obsessed with SRK? Definitely me coded.

And then there’s Daniel—the ultimate gentleman. He’s caring, carefree, and the kind of guy who remembers the little things. As the story unfolds, we get to see his emotional depth and the soft side he reserves just for Anya. And let’s be honest, he has to be the best MMC ever because not only did he memorize Anya’s coffee order—he actually learned how to make it!

Their relationship? Absolute perfection. No unnecessary drama, no pointless misunderstandings—just two people who get each other. Their playful banter in the beginning had me grinning non-stop, and I adored how flustered Anya would get whenever Daniel casually dropped a compliment. Oh, and did I mention that he watched all her favorite Bollywood movies and even asked her to be his girlfriend by recreating one of her favorite scenes?! Swoon.

Daniel’s efforts to make her happy were so evident throughout the book, and those moments? Pure magic.

So, if you love nicknames, playful banter, the “I can do it myself” FMC x “I know, but let me do it for you” MMC trope, and the most thoughtful proposals ever, this book is definitely for you!

If you think I would be prone to cute romance scenes after reading a lot of romances, that I would not giggle and squeal like an idiot, that I will not have butterflies in my stomach or that I don't smile like a fool while reading then you are wrong. Because this book made me feel all those things 🤌🏼💖🫶🏼
.
My boy Daniel is such a retriever of energy, I love his tactics so much 😍 He is such a flirt and very very Sunshine kind of personality 💞 he always thinks of others first, always keeps others needs and likes before his. And I am glad he got Anya who believes in him and supports him. Not just that but also stands up for him and defends him, such an amazing relationship they have 🧿
.
Anya, the Indian origin girl studying in States is an ambivert but she is such a strong character. All she always wanted was people to believe in her and trust her that she can do things and she is capable of what she wants. Dan is someone who trusts her blondly and have immense respect and confidence in her that he believes she is one strong woman who can get what she wants. ❤️ The way he support her and knows her, sometimes better than her is 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
.
From the beginning to the end the story never disappointed me. The strangers to partners in assignment to lovers arc is amazingly done by the author. The flirty attitude to cheesy lines to sizzling chemistry, everything was top notch 😍 I am obsessed with them 😍 they are so perfect for each other. I love how the narration was always light and fun and kept that comfy romance vibes going on. Also there were some scenes addressing how bias is unintentionally done and they don't even know how it is affecting the person, because they have no idea of it. Addressing such things was commendable that too in subtle and considerate way is amazing 💖
.
The amount of bookmarks I marked, the amount of annotations I did to the lines is insane 💕 each and every scene, every conversation was my favourite ❣️ I like how they established their relationship, it's like what Dan said "We will work through all obstacles, but we won’t leave each other" breakup was not an option for them ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

If you are looking for a heartfelt story about two people choosing to grow together then this story is just for you. For the first half of the book you get to watch witty banter, cute moments and two people who have feelings for each other and do not know how to communicate lol but then they work through their internal battles, they chose each other and they finally decide that love is the answer.

Anya is a sweetheart. I love her sassy attitude towards Daniel when things start off early on. I love how she just says what she is feeling and doesn’t take any kind of crap from anyone. When she starts to warm up, I love how she grows as a person and learns to love Daniel for who he is.

Daniel Greyson from day 1 is a green flag. He is so sweet, so kind, and amazing overall. Her truly is the standard for men and I adored him. I loved how he loved her from the beginning. I loved that he cared so much. When she gets stuck in the elevator, the way he protects her is AMAZING and thats also the first time he calls her baby, which had me WEAKKK! Also….in the spicy chapters….My goodness!

I really loved the scene where they brought each other flowers. Something about that moment just hit home for me. It just showed that love really can conquer all and that love goes both ways.

I also enjoyed the friends in this story. Siya and Sophia seem like amazing friends, and I am eager to learn more about them. I also adore Ethan, Zeke and Louis. I do wish there could have been a bit more time with them, but I hope we get that in the next book! It was nice to see friends written who just supported one another. The ending…..I was in tears!

I think this book is so adorable. (I got to be an alpha reader for it) so I am so proud of SC Jain for this book coming to life! I can’t wait to see what she does next and I absolutely can’t wait for the rest of the groups stories.

Thank you swipethebookPR for this letting me be on this teamand SC Jain for letting me be apart of your journey as a friend and a reader!!

Yours Unexpectedly by S.C. Jain is a heartwarming and emotionally layered rom-com that explores love, self-discovery, and the pressure of parental expectations. 💖 Anya Mehra has always been the perfect daughter — disciplined, ambitious, and determined to make her father proud. But her carefully planned life takes an unexpected turn when Daniel Grayson, the university’s confident and charming basketball captain, walks in. 🏀 Daniel is battling his own struggles, torn between his passion for basketball and his father’s pressure to join the family business. Despite coming from different worlds, Anya and Daniel find themselves drawn to each other in ways neither of them anticipated. ❤️

What makes this book so engaging is the chemistry between Anya and Daniel. Their playful banter adds charm and lightness, while the emotional depth of their relationship gives the story weight. 😍 Daniel’s unwavering support for Anya, from their sweet first date to the heartfelt proposal, is genuinely touching. His efforts to make Anya feel valued and seen are heart-melting. 🥰 Her feisty attitude and independence make her a strong and relatable character, and her journey toward self-acceptance is beautifully portrayed. 🌸

The character development is well-executed. Anya’s transformation from seeking her father’s approval to trusting her own instincts is inspiring, while Daniel’s emotional vulnerability and willingness to fight for his dreams make him a standout romantic lead. Their relationship grows naturally, evolving from hesitant friendship into a deep and meaningful connection where they challenge and uplift each other. 💕

S.C. Jain strikes a perfect balance between romance and personal growth, making both characters’ journeys feel authentic and heartfelt. The ending leaves you with a warm, satisfied feeling. Yours Unexpectedly is more than just a love story — it’s about finding the courage to follow your heart, even when life takes you by surprise. A charming, heartfelt read that stays with you long after you turn the last page. ✨

Before talking about this book I have to thank the author very much for giving me the opportunity to read an arc of this book!!! It was an incredible experience🤭

𝘼𝙧𝙘 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬:
This book undoubtedly entertained me! I had a great time reading this book, it really made me laugh and warmed my heart!
The characters in this book were interesting, although initially they seem totally opposite throughout the book we discover small points in common and although they continue to be opposite in some ways they end up making a lot of sense to each other, they start wanting to always be together and inevitably end up falling in love with each other in a way they never expected.
I really liked how Anya is so confident but at the same time she’s sooo soft-hearted and the way she And the way she tries to get out of her comfort zone for Daniel, she literally learned the rules of basketball even without liking sports for him.
I also really liked how Daniel is understanding and patient with Anya, he helped her grow out of her comfort zone and I think that’s beautiful he really cares about her🥹 (this man was such a green flag)
For me Anya and Daniel’s story was sooo adorable swoony, the banter and the chemistry was so good!!!🙌🏼
I loved the fact that this book doesn’t have any unnecessary drama. The author let us simply enjoy the journey, see both fall in love, see how they deal with their problems, see their personal growth and I liked that a lot sometimes there doesn’t have to be any drama in the middle of the novel to capture our attention, sometimes we just want a couple who can communicate with each other and who give their best to help each other.
If you want a sweet reading, that will melt your heart with a couple who communicates and who help each other always doing everything for each other, this is the book!!! This book comes out today and so run to have yours🤭💛

Banter, forced proximity, he falls hard, slow burn, pinning feelings....if any of these tropes are your favorite, then this book is for you.

It's the first day of classes, and Anya is just trying to make it through by getting there on time. It's all going okay until someone runs into her and her coffee spills all over her, now she's mad that she doesn't have her caffeine (which is her life force), and is late. During her first class, the teacher assigns everyone partners for a project that is due at the end of the semester, and the person that Anya gets partnered with is not even in class. Being provided with their information, she sends out an email about the project and to meet up to talk about it later that night. When Anya arrives at their meeting place, she realizes that her partner is the person who ran into her that morning and is also none other than the new basketball captain, Daniel Grayson.

This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I loved the banter between Daniel and Anya and their growing feelings for each other. Daniel has been known to not get into serious relationships or have any attachments, but when it comes to Anya, everything changes, and he becomes obsessed with her. He ends up not only learning what her go-to coffee order is, but he also learns how to make it, and he also watches all of her favorite Bollywood movies in order to get to know her better. Anya is trying really hard not to have feelings for him, but the more time they spend together, that becomes impossible. The slow burn tension between them was perfectly written, and I could not get enough. I love that as much as Daniel wants to be with Anya, he does not push it and tries to go at her pace. Daniel is the type of guy that any girl would be lucky to be with.

I could go on and on about this book, but I do not want to spoil it for anyone. So, if you want a sweet romance with a golden retriever guy and some minor spice, go read this book. I can't wait for more in this universe, and I would love to read more about Anya's friends Siya and Sophie.

“𝓘 𝓬𝓸𝓾𝓵𝓭 𝓷𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓯𝓸𝓻𝓰𝓮𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾, 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓷 𝓲𝓯 𝓘 𝓽𝓻𝓲𝓮𝓭. 𝓐𝓷𝓭 𝓘 𝓭𝓸𝓷’𝓽 𝔀𝓪𝓷𝓽 𝓽𝓸 𝓽𝓻𝔂,”

I loved this so much! I was in a slump where I was reading but could not get into anything but this one got me right out of it. The banter had me laughing, the swooniest moments had me giggling and Daniel had me kicking my feet, both of these characters are so easy to love.

Anya has this semi black cat energy when it is needed but she is the sweetest and loyal friend. Her focus is on academics you can see her put the pressure on herself because she feels she has something to prove, she wants that validation from her dad to help in his business but she feels unseen. One thing about her is when she is all in on something she gives it her all but she also often runs away to protect herself. When she finally gives in to her feelings for Daniel it is the cutest she learns about basketball for him and slowly comes out of her comfort zone.

Daniel, Daniel, Daniel this man will have you with heart eyes from the moment he is introduced, he is instantly attracted to Anya and even when she does not want to give him the time of day he is constantly searching for her. He latches to everything she says he watches the movies she likes, learns to make her coffee are just a few and that first date ugh heart eyes. His situation is opposite where he wants to focus on basketball his dad wants him to take over his business. I love how they lean on each other.

It moves at a fast pace and really easy to get lost into their story. I loved every moment of these two and I cannot wait for more of the Pinecrest crew.

💌 My Thoughts -

Where do i even begin? Some books wrap around your heart and refuse to let go. This book is one of those stories. From the very first page, I was utterly enchanted by the charming yet deeply emotional journey of Anya and Daniel. Their chemistry crackles with every interaction—witty banter, undeniable tension, and the kind of slow-burn romance that leaves you breathless.

Anya’s character is beautifully layered; she’s determined, passionate, and slightly chaotic in the most relatable way. Watching her navigate college life, friendships, and a partnership she never saw coming was nothing short of exhilarating. And then there’s Daniel—cocky yet endearing, a swoon-worthy athlete with hidden depths. His dynamic with Anya is electric, filled with hilarious clashes, tender moments, and an undeniable pull neither of them can ignore.

The writing is effortlessly engaging, balancing humor, heartache, and romance in a way that kept me hooked until the very last word. The friendships in this book are just as heartwarming as the love story—Siya and Sophie are the kind of best friends every girl deserves. And let’s not forget Arnav, the overprotective but secretly soft-hearted brother!

What makes this story truly special is how it captures the essence of self-discovery, love, and the magic of unexpected connections. Every moment, every stolen glance, every whispered conversation felt so real, so raw, and so right.

I was honored to be a beta reader for this book and fell in love with SC's storytelling from the very beginning. Seeing this story come to life was an absolute privilege, and I cannot recommend it enough. If you love banter-filled romance, deep character growth, and a love story that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page—this book is for you!

A Rom-Com Lover’s Paradise!

Yours Unexpectedly is pure heaven for rom-com lovers! This book had the perfect mix of romance and comedy, making me fall for it instantly. And let’s talk about the desi tadka—the Bollywood references were an absolute chef’s kiss! The entire vibe of the story felt like a warm, filmy hug, and I loved every second of it.

The story follows two college students who meet in their second year. He’s the captain of the basketball team; she’s an ambitious girl who breathes business. He doesn’t exactly hate business, but let’s just say he’d rather dribble a ball than discuss market trends. And yet—despite their differences—he worships her while also making it his life’s mission to annoy her. The obsession was real, and she had no clue. (Okay, maybe just a little hint.)

The author’s writing was so engaging that I couldn’t put the book down. And then there’s Anya—the perfect desi heroine. I adored her. My heart ached when her opinions were ignored, but just then, our greenest flag swooped in, doing everything in his power to make her smile. That is the kind of love we need in this generation!

Now, let’s talk about Daniel. The greenest flag to ever exist. This man was everything. The way he admired Anya? The way he was so unapologetically addicted to her? Absolutely beautiful. And the details? Chef’s kiss! He had zero spice tolerance, yet he still ate gol gappas with her just to recreate a scene from her favorite movie. He watched SRK movies just because she loved them—even if the logic didn’t always make sense to him. (I mean, as an SRK fan myself, I totally get the hype!)

You know that rare feeling when a book is both emotionally and romantically overwhelming in the best possible way? Yours Unexpectedly is exactly that. The way the author flawlessly balanced both the male and female POVs made the story even more special.

If you trust me with recommendations, please read this book. You won’t regret it. 💖✨

From page one, I was hooked on 𝗔𝗻𝘆𝗮 & 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹’𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆
—their chemistry crackles with every interaction, from hilarious banter to those quiet, soul-deep moments that make you feel everything. This story delivers a beautiful mix of:

✨ Slow-Burn College Romance – The tension, the longing, the yearning—perfection!
🐱☀️ Black Cat x Golden Retriever Energy – Anya is reserved, protective, and fiercely independent, while Daniel? Sunshine in human form (and obsessed with her in the best way).
💘 He Falls First & HARD – The way Daniel is completely gone for Anya? Chef’s kiss.
🏀 Sports Romance + Found Family – The friendships are just as heartwarming as the romance, and I need a Siya & Sophie in my life ASAP.
💔 Emotional Depth – Grief, family struggles, anxiety—this book handles them beautifully.

𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁. Seriously, watching him fall for Anya, the way he puts her first, supports her, and adores her—pure magic. And Anya? I loved how strong and self-assured she was, especially when it came to protecting him.

This book gave me ALL the feels—I laughed, I swooned, I melted at their soft moments, and yes, I may have had goosebumps more than once. It’s the kind of romance that lingers long after the last page, and I already know it’s a comfort read I’ll keep coming back to.

Final Verdict: If you love slow-burn, college romance with a swoon-worthy hero and all the fluffy, heart-melting moments— SOMEONE BUY ME A PAPERBACK.

Sweet, charming, and utterly delightful - 'Yours Unexpectedly' stole my heart!! This book has it all: adorable characters, a swoony romance, and enough banter to keep you laughing out loud! 💛

Anya Mehra, a student from India, attends Pinecrest University in New York for her master's degree. She's an extremely relatable character! Obsessed with SRK movies and coffee - same girl, same vibes!! She's fierce, ambitious, smart, and caring. She learns the basketball game's rules for him because she knows basketball means everything to him! And the way she stood up for him in front of his father was one of my favorite scenes!

Daniel Grayson is the captain of Pinecrest University's basketball team. Now, where do I even begin?? 😩🤌🏻 He stole my heart the moment he appeared! He's a green forest of emotions! The things he did for Anya are countless! He watched all the Indian movies she suggested, learned her coffee order, and even learned to make it after 50 tries. Also, he set up a panipuri date for her (This scene = instant panipuri craving!🤤) He gifted her jhumkas (earrings) after seeing her old posts where she wore Indian attire - he's so sweet, cute, and thoughtful! ❤️

I'm still thinking about the characters in this book long after I finished reading - they're that memorable! The characters in this book are so well-written, I felt like I was right there with them on their journey! Every detail in this book will leave you smiling, whether it's their banter or their scribbles during lectures.

If you want to read a book that's cute, funny, will make you giggle and blush, and is also full of characters' banter, then this book is for you! 🤭💛

The storyline keeps you hooked from the very start. From their first meet to the very ending it will have you rooting for them & their chemistry is so FIREE and don't even get me started on the push & pull between them. And I loved the way MC's personality is developed and how they support & make each other more better for one another! 😩

Also, OH MY GOD!! DANIEL is the greenest flag ever and most probably will become your DREAM MAN too once you read him! First of all, thank you so much for the ARC opportunity!
I am so happy that I got the chance to read this book. Obsessed!

This book is sooo cute, fun, and easy to read, despite tackling some heavy topics. The banter and tension? Absolute fire. I laughed A LOT, but I also cried. And the friendships? So genuine and adorable. I need to see what S.C. Jain gives us next because I am obsessed with this book.

💛Anya
She’s such a sweetheart. I love her determination, and her responses? 😂 Iconic. I do have a tiny 🤏 issue with her Coca-Cola comment, but otherwise? Love her. I adore that she never forgets where she comes from and embraces her culture.

💛Daniel
Did NOT give me the best first impression (seriously, be on time!), but once he opened his mouth in the library? Everything forgiven. He’s a flirt in the cutest yet hottest way, and I just can’t. He’s also genuine, sweet, and everything.

I need the next book now.

Moments I Lived For:
✨ Their first interaction—so cute.
✨ Anya accepting Daniel’s invite.
✨ Him skipping the party just so she’s not alone.
✨ The way he wants her to have fun but also be comfortable 🥹.
✨ Daniel’s dad 😭.
✨ The beach scene—now I wanna play volleyball.
✨ Someone make me breakfast, please.
✨ The little basketball lesson 🥹.
✨ “When and if it comes to choosing between you or anyone, choose yourself, because you are all you have.” !!!
✨ The damn Barbie song.
✨ I want to steal Siya for myself.
✨ That kiss—I waited so long for it.
✨ The picnic 🥹🥺.
✨ HE. FREAKING. MOVED. FOR HER.
✨ The face mask scene 🥹.
✨ I’m so happy for Daniel’s dad.

Final thoughts? I love this book. Go read it. ❤️

The chemistry , the banter, the little flirting was sos good in this book. I mean the boy is such a big green flag and is the cutest. I mean Anya would be just breathing and this guy would Daniel would still be in aww for her. The way this guy worship her, comforts her and support her was on top. He literally learned to make her coffee order for her and they weren’t even dating at that time. The whole process of him learning to make it was so funny and cute at the same time. And his guys teased him so much about it. Love them!!
Anya has a semi-black cat energy fully focused on her goals and love, trying to prover herself to her family as couldn't help but compare to her brother. It was soothing to see her come out of her comfort level and work through her insecurities. That was so healing. She wasn’t any less supportive of him, when she get to know a particular match will decide his career riled on, not only she come to support him wearing his jersey, but also during the whole match she took her Ganesha (Indian god) necklace and keep praying for his victory.
These two are so perfect for each other. I In every chapter i was giggling, laughing and keep saying this is so cute. This guy is such a green flag and he like the guy who will learn your favourite and remember what you said , took a good time in preparing the dates with the things you like. That was honestly so cute. They both a such a comfort character. Mention of all the Bollywood movie and the K-drama..AHHHHH. The epilogue was chef kiss, perfect. I can like keep talking more about this book but it will spoil it.

Yours Unexpectedly is a mixture of banter, friendship, and love. The gradual development in Daniel and Anya's relationship was very fun to read, and their banter was witty and filled with tension. The chemistry between them was undeniable! They were both disgustingly in love with each other, and it showed very well through their actions. The evolution in their relationship was amazing, and how both of them tried their best to deny their feelings for each other, but ultimately gave up pretty quickly.

Anya Mehra is a desi girl through and through. The only thing she wants from life is to build a successful business empire, and she's here for her master's. But our girl fell in love with the basketball player and then made sure he studied as well. She's a coffee lover, just like me, and I could relate to her fixation with coffee. (but no one has ever learnt how to make coffee for me)

Daniel Grayson is a basketball player and a true jock, but the only thing that keeps him awake at night nowadays is Anya, and he literally can't stop thinking about her. So, in true jock fashion, he decides to pursue her. He does everything to make her realize about his feelings. My favorite thing was the dates he organized and how he watched all her favorite Bollywood rom-coms just to know her better. (he even arranged panipuri for her *swooonnn*)

This is a perfect rom-com for jock and student lovers, and it will make you laugh and swoon. This is the debut book of the author, and she really handled it very well, and I loved how she included Indian culture every now and then.

Thank you so much for the Arc <33
