Mary Fairfax Somerville was a Scottish science writer and polymath, at a time when women's participation in science was discouraged. She studied mathematics and astronomy, and was nominated to be jointly the first female member of the Royal Astronomical Society at the same time as Caroline Herschel.
Reading this book felt like sitting down for coffee with a seasoned saint—a sister full of wisdom, grace, and practical insight. It's both encouraging and deeply practical. Mrs. Somerville encourages you to persevere through the hard seasons of ministry and to be joyfully rooted in Christ, loving your husband as he answers the most honorable call of all - preaching the Word and shepherding God’s church. I especially enjoyed the way she walks through Psalm 23, offering tangible ways to pray for and help your husband as he serves as a faithful under-shepherd to Christ’s bride. This is a book I’ll return to year after year. If you’re a ministry wife… it’s a must read!
