Jeff Daniels returns with more skits, more songs, and more boundless audio storytelling in Season 2 of Alive and Well Enough. Again, Daniels begins in the middle of all the action and traipses back and forth, up and down, and side to side in the timeline of his life to figure out how he ended up where he did. But this time, he delves even deeper into his craft. He considers himself one of the few actors who didn’t want to direct, but instead to write, and write abundantly. The more he wrote, the more he understood his own artistry, the choice of how to interpret a script, and the differences between stage acting and film acting. Daniels remains a sincere student of his own life, on a quest to thoughtfully examine the experiences he’s had alongside his peers. As always, Daniels performs generously, his reverence for his craft always front and center stage.
I officially have finished my very first audio book! I saw Jeff Daniels memoir pop up and it sounded really intriguing! It is wild to think he was younger than I am 😜 when he starred in Dumb & Dumber! And even wilder to learn he just turned 70! But the memoir was FANTASTIC! I loved hearing about his career, his acting stories, and who knew he sings? The songs in between each set were such a fun added element to the memoir and I hope he continues to sing and write music. I should also mention, his memoir is only in audio book format via Audible if you are interested in listening!
I never leave reviews, but this is hands down the best thing I have listened to/read this year, will listen to/read this year, and I know it will be one of the best things I’ve ever listened to in my life.
How do I love Jeff Daniels - let me count the ways! I so enjoyed listening to him talk about his career and acting in general - the music in between was sublime. Just added to my bucket list - I must see Jeff on stage doing what he does best!
I admire Jeff Daniels. He is down to earth. In this audiobio he tells stories of his past decades in the theatre and on the big screen. His sincerity and humility are striking. He lives in the mid West, not in LA or NYC, which brings its own challenges to get roles. Interesting how he explains that being a writer helped him to play, and that he landed the role in Dumb and Dumber opposite Jim Carey because he was not a comedian but an actor. This role broadened his acting experience, he was no longer tied to a specific type of person / genre (which can happen to an actor (think Harry Potter / Frodo in LOTR). He ends with a moving story of how he got the best review of one actor, short and very meaningful. I found this audio memoir worth listening to!
This is the second freebie from Audible by Jeff Daniels that I have read (listened to). I really liked both of them. I have long admired his acting, and now his writing and (who knew) to his music. These two audio books provided insightful and witty conmmentary for a couple of days. If you are an Audible member, listen to them for free. He was a great companion while I was driving for a few days.
P.S. Audible puts a lot of these short books out. Most are modest. These two stood out.
This was great. Jeff Daniels is a fantastic storyteller. I didn't know he is also a singer, so that was a fun surprise for me. I chose this audiobook because I wanted something fun and interesting for my work commute, but wouldn't take me days and days to finish. It did not disappoint. Now I need to listen Part One!
Delightful collection of podcasts as a book, which keeps it away from being a full five stars. Feels very much like Theme Time Radio Hour if it was a memoir. Deeply likable for me anyway, and an easy recommendation.
This was a fun take on the memoir, going the audio route with Jeff Daniels talking about different parts of his career and including songs. There’s also a fun recurring bit of him being interviewed y his character Harry Dunne.
I never wanted this to end! Wow! I YouTubed (is that a proper verb now?) Jeff Daniels right after I finished this - just to hear more stories and songs from him. The song he sang on The Kelly Clarkson show was so beautiful - I cried (one of my favorite finds on YouTube).
Season Two doesn't disappoint! Mr. Daniels continues taking us along on his humble walk through life as an actor, playwright and song writer. I can't decide what I appreciate more: the stories about his work, the backstage pass to understanding acting or the songs.
Jeff Daniel's has a unique perspective on his acting career, alao interspersed with some of his poetry/songs. The story of what he learned feom Meryl Streep while acting with her was powerful and a great way to get t inspiration.
Definitely enjoyed this audible only performance. Jeff has so many good stories to share. His experience is much deeper than one would know on the surface, his love for the theatre is evident through his passion for the craft.
I really enjoy Jeff as a storyteller, as an actor, as a songwriter. I suspect I’d enjoy him as a human being, if he is who this series makes me think he is. He spins a good yarn with a lot of heart, I’ll give him that.
..šis bija brīnišķīgi. spilgtas dzīves etīdes, stāsti par epizodēm no dzīves un lieliski dialogi, kur visas lomas runā meistars Džefs Daniels viens pats.
