a dog-bloody novel with series of plot twists halfway thru! our mc, mai dong, has been writing a diary full of his day-to-day experiences with the sole focus of his thoughts about his crush, yan ximing. on the day of club recruitment, he unfortunately lost his diary in the crowd and found out through his roommate that the one who found it was yan ximing. that was the start of their story..
or so we thought.
mai dong is the type of character who is carefree, doesn't really keep up with gossip, doesn't interact much with people, evasive, and is known to be THAT student who got a perfect score on the college exams. little did he know, he's actually popular in student and teacher spaces alike and his life and personality is severely misunderstood too. yan ximing is that textbook popular good-looking character who's smart, talented, and likeable. an easygoing guy like him would of course be the apple of the eye of countless women and men.
what i liked about this story is how, despite there being two diary writers towards the end, you KNOW who is writing what even though the author does not specify who is who. warning though, it's insanely fluffy and the secondhand embarrassments from mai dong are soooo frequent (and that's part of his charm). it's full of cliches! regardless, still a cute and easy read.
