It is a truth universally acknowledged that a hockey player in possession of a bad reputation must be in want of a fake girlfriend.
Rosie Forrester is in desperate need of cash after an embarrassing run-in with the law. Enter Dylan Savage, a disgraced hockey player who needs a place to hide out for a few months while he figures out how to get back on his team.
He's every bit as beastly as his fans' nickname for him would imply—nothing like the handsome, charming bookstore owner Rosie’s in love with from afar. But Dylan’s rent will not only save her art studio, it’ll help fund the secret she’s keeping from her three older brothers.
When Rosie proposes a deal to help Dylan improve his image if he can help her finally catch the eye of the bookstore owner, he reluctantly agrees. But nothing in their plan is going as expected, and pretty soon it's not just her studio she’s worried about losing, it’s her heart.
Rosie and The Beast Next Door is for readers who love Jane Austen, forced proximity, banter, hockey players, fake dating, and happily ever afters!
I absolutely adored this! If you appreciate Jane Austen, Beauty and the Beast AND 90’s romcom references, a grumpy/sunshine trope where he falls first, small town vibes, witty banter, fake dating, hockey romance, swoony tension without the spice, love notes with a modern twist, protective MMC and brothers, a great balance of depth and humor…then you will love this one! My husband got this for me for my birthday and he obviously knows me SO well because this book felt like it was written with me in mind! Love that man of mine! :) And loved this book!
I absolutely loved this story! From the very first page, it pulled me right in, and I stayed up way too late because I just had to finish it. Rosie is such an endearing and likable character—fun, spunky, a little awkward, and genuinely kind. She’s the kind of person everyone loves to be around—pure sunshine.
Dylan, on the other hand, is grumpy, guarded, and hurting. He’s struggling with self-doubt, made even worse after the loss of his best friend. The contrast between Rosie and Dylan makes their dynamic so engaging. Their meet-cute is hilarious, and the chemistry between them never lets up. I loved watching their friendship grow naturally into something deeper—it felt real and heartfelt.
The side characters add so much charm, and the whole story just came together beautifully. It’s the perfect blend of humor, heart, and swoony romance. Such a fantastic read!
'Her smile turned a little too bright and mischievous. Whatever Rosie had in mind, I already regretted it.'
Rose, Rosie, Rosie--from the second she came into play in book 1 of this series (Me and Mr. Just Right) I knew Rosie had a good story to tell! I love her protective brothers, I love the small Alaskan town, I love that no matter what she does somehow mayhem follows her.
The perfect combination for a GREAT READ!!!
Kaylee is a new-to-me author (Me and Mr. Just Right was my first) and I am so excited to go through her entire backlist and read EVERYTHING! That's how good these two books have been!!
I loved that this had a little of everything: sports romance, forced proximity, stubborn FMC, chip on his shoulder MMC, redemption, fake dating, romantic tension, hilarious banter and the swooniest romance.
And we haven't even touched the surface of TWO AMAZING CHARACTER ARCS. You want to feel the feels while being entertained? This book has that in spades!!! Literally, the best feel good book while laughing non-stop.
It's like straight up magic!
I cannot recommend this book enough. It's a 2024 favorite and I will 100% read anything Kaylee writes. This book will be available December 31, 2024. Kindle pre-order is available now!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Plot- I liked this one better than the 1st in the series (which is Me and Mr. Just Right). It has a more robust plot line for sure, and the characters have more depth. Also, the relationship builds over a longer period of time, which adds credibility.
Characters- The FMC is bright and happy. The Beast MMC lived up to his name well, starting off gruff and rude and then softening into a sweetheart just for her (he still maintained his toughness, which is important).
Romance- Fake dating trope, which I actually didn’t mind at all. (It’s a hard sell, folks.) Good slow burn development. Their relationship felt real and genuine by the end. They had average chemistry. Wish it was higher.
Writing - Good writing. It definitely made me smile. I would recommend.
Content-
Language- no swearing Spice- some sweet kissing. Clean. Violence- no Substance abuse- no. Cover- It’s okay. POV- dual POV, first person. Cliffhanger- No. *btw, this book is the 2nd IN SERIES! (It is incorrectly labeled in Good Reads as 1st in the Enchanted Forresters series.) Format- audiobook via Audible for $5 Narration- great!! Dual performance
Tenía miedo de cómo terminarían las cosas con el papá de Rosie, pero afortunadamente el tema se manejó como yo quería 🤭 y fue lo mejor que le pudo pasar a ella.
If you love... - Small town - Fake dating - Pride and Prejudice vibes - Hockey player - Grumpy sunshine - Closed door - Love unfolding
THIS IS THE BOOK!!
Oh my gosh, where do I even begin? I absolutely adored this book! The way the author weaves each scene together is perfection, and the descriptions are so rich that you feel like you're right there, living it all with the characters. I’m usually the one to avoid spoilers, but I can’t resist sharing my absolute favorite quote:
"Max was the plan... but Dylan was becoming the dream." AHHH!! The emotions, the tension, the chemistry—it's all too much in the best way possible! And don’t even get me started on how they talked about each other. This line killed me: "... and how the entire room was lit up with her glow." I mean, come on, how romantic is that?!
I promise I won’t spoil anything major, but just to give you a little taste: some of my absolute favorite moments were the epic paint fight (so much fun) and of course, the intense storm that took out her roof. Dylan swooping in to take care of her, keeping her warm—so swoon-worthy! That's all I’m giving away for now, though ;)
Kaylee truly knocked it out of the park with this book! I can’t recommend it enough. You’ll fall in love with every moment. Seriously, if you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for?!
Thank you so much to the author, Kaylee Baldwin, for the complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When disgraced Dylan returns back to his hometown, he knows his image needs improving. Rosie needs pointers on how to get the attention of bookstore owner Max and she enlists Dylan into a fake dating situation where he will look to be settling down in return for getting dating pointers.
This is fake dating at its finest. This book had me swooning by the end. I mean, what girl doesn't want a Jane Austen style romance?! If you're after a delightfully cute, hockey centered romance - be sure to pick this up as I have no doubt you'll love it just as much as I did! This was my first Kaylee Baldwin book and I'm so excited to read more.
Rosie and the Beast Next Door is grumpy sunshine fake dating rom com perfection. It's so cute! Absolutely so adorable. I was smiling and giggling nonstop
This quote sums up how the MMC sees the FMC, and it's perfect. Made my heart go pitter patter. Swoon 🥰 "This was Rosie's world, and we were all just living in it."
The other day I commented on someone’s post that I was wanting to have a hockey romance moment and then I received a copy of Rosie and the Beast Next Door by Kaylee Baldwin! Kismet!
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!
Rosie is a talented artist, she runs her own art studio, and for extra cash works at the local Italian restaurant in a small tourist town of Winterhaven, Alaska. Rosie has her eyes set on the local bookshop owner. She is loved and protected by her brothers who at the moment she is keeping a secret from. For reasons you will find out she needs to make extra cash and decides to rent out the spare apartment above the art studio to Dylan a professional hockey player who was born and raised in Winterhaven. He has reluctantly returned after his agent told him he needs to take a break from hockey.
Enter my favorite trope…
Fake Dating 💕💗💖💞💓Rosie helps him with is public image and Dylan helps Rosie catch the eye of the bookstore owner.
“I was promised public kissing.”
The meet cute 😂 Banter 🥰 Opposites attract 😘 Art 🖼️ Hockey 🏒 Small town 🏡 Protective Brothers 🖤 Jane Austen 💓 I loved getting to know this community!!!
This is book 2 in the Enchanted Forrester’s Series. Me and Mr. Just Right is the first book and now on my TBR! Much like other romance series I am aware of who ended up with who from the first book but I’m even more excited to read how it all came about.
I think fans of Courtney Walsh’s will love this series!
I absolutely adored this book! Rosie is such an engaging and quirky character that I couldn’t help but love right away. Dylan was a character that I grew to love as his layers were peeled away.
Things I loved about this book: -Rosie’s brothers-they were hilarious, protective, and just plain awesome. I loved how Rosie tried getting under their skin at every opportunity. -how Rosie just managed to get herself in trouble often… especially with the Sheriff aka Dylan’s dad. -all the Pride and Prejudice quotes and actions. -the group chats. Rosie and her brothers. Dylan and his teammates— his teammates gave great advice! -Rosie’s growth in standing up for herself. -the grand gesture was so well thought out and fun.
Favorite Quotes And I would do anything to get out of here and get back on my team. Even accept Rosie’s proposition. I might not be selling my soul to the devil, but I was selling it to Rosie Forrester, and I wasn’t sure if there was all that much difference.
Relaxing. Right. Something told me that aligning myself with Rosie Forrester would be the least relaxing thing I’d ever done.
He could lift you, Charlie whispered tauntingly. Shut it, Charlie.
I listened to the devilish voice in my head urging me to lean forward, to test how far these non-sisterly thoughts went. “For the record,” I whispered, my words stirring the tiny hairs around her ears, “I like all the sides of Rosie, and don’t find a single one of them predictable.”
“That you’re a ‘yes, and’ kind of person. You don’t shoot down ideas, you build on them.” That was one of the nicest things anyone had said to me, but I still shook my head. “I’m the sour lemon, Dylan. I take good ideas and make them bitter.” He shook his head vigorously. “I don’t know where you got that idea, but it’s completely false. You turn everything to gold.”
“We could both see how hard my heart was beating in the rise and fall of my left pec. I wanted to kiss Rosie Forrester more than I’d ever wanted to kiss anyone in my life.”
Rosie and the Beast Next Door is the story of the cute and quirky Rosie and her new next-door-neighbor Dylan aka The Beast, a hockey player who needs a room to rent while on a little hiatus from his hockey career.
Rosie and Dylan literally “hit it off”when she hits him in the face with a broom when he shows up unexpectedly! From there, they get off to a bit of a rough start until Rosie devises the perfect plan that they can fake date to improve his image and help her catch the eye of the “love of her life“ Max. But, neither of them bargained for how quickly their feelings for one another will escalate!
These two are so darn cute! Rosie is so fun and I love how she is just her own person. Her relationship and text threads with her brothers are also so great! Dylan has a good heart and has had to overcome some hard things in his past and I love how Rosie is able to soften him up a little bit and how he’s able to restore his relationship with his parents!
Well, this story was just absolutely delightful! It is the first book that I have read by this author and as I finished reading it, I immediately pulled up the novella that comes right after it because I didn't want to leave these characters yet!
This was such a fun story, with the attraction building between Dylan and Rosie as they spent time together. Yet, Rosie continued to try to keep her focus on Max, the man that she had previously been so enamored with. I loved seeing her eyes begin to open to not only the kind of man that Dylan was, but also begin to realize that he was the one she was truly drawn to.
This story was fun and sweet, but also dealt with some heart wrenching issues, too. Dylan was deeply mired in grief over the tragic death of his best friend. And Rosie was dealing with some troubles related to being abandoned by her father early in life. I liked that the author was able to address these difficult topics within a story that was still filled with love and laughter.
So cute and sweet! I love the main characters as people and I enjoyed following their story. While this was very clearly a fictional romance, the inner monologue of the main characters as they fell for each other definitely felt more realistic than a lot of books I've read in this genre and that was definitely a breath of fresh air! I'm also a big fan of the Forrester family so far and can't wait to finish the series.
This Beauty and the Beast inspired story was extra fun with all the Pride and Prejudice references and the most fun group of older brothers. I loved Rosie and related to her on multiple levels. A hairless cat named Lizzie, a great bestie, and some deeper themes make this a fake-dating, fairy-tale-inspired, hockey romance win!
This was a fun unexpected story. I really loved Rosie’s brothers. They were all really overprotective having helped raise her. It made for a fun dynamic in the story. I love the family group chat. Made me laugh so much. I liked Dylan‘s perspective. Seeing him realize that he had people behind him supporting him was really nice. I really enjoyed the book. I definitely would read more in the series. Rating: PG, clean closed door romance. Triggers: deadbeat mooching dad, past death of a friend, feelings of abandonment.
This book was everything I didn’t know I needed. It had the perfect amount of banter that made me not want to stop reading. It’s been a bit since I willingly gave up sleep to read a book. Rosie’s quick wit and Dylan’s heart wrenching story kept me so invested. Kaylee did such an amazing job at capturing the readers attention right from the get-go. I was in love with these two after their first meeting. Even though the romance was totally amazing in and of itself, the side stories and characters made the story so well rounded I was emotionally invested in no time.
It’s not often I feel like a book is completely perfect… but this one is. I will 100% be recommending this to everyone who loves banter filled, closed door romances. I will now be going back to read the first in the series and probably everything else Kaylee has written!
Any book that mentions my favorite movies… While You Were Sleeping is an immediate favorite! Plus the scene similar to Never Been Kissed. 😍
I picked this book up because I wanted a cute, lighthearted rom com to read before diving into a fantasy series. A hockey romance with fake dating? Small town? What could go wrong? Boy was I in for it.
Rosie has to be one of the most annoying characters I've read about. Her entire personality is being a quirky little airhead who gets into trouble for "lovable misdemeanors," and she's supposedly a good little ray of sunshine. Bleh.
Not only was she in love with a man who quite literally couldn't be bothered to know her name after years of knowing her, she was also hiding her deadbeat of a father who is clearly only there to extort money from her. Mind you, her brothers and the people around her have told her exactly this, but she doesn't believe them.
The only reason I gave this book more than one star is because I actually liked Dylan. He was grieving the loss of his best friend and clearly suffering from burnout, but I loved his journey of healing and finding love. I also loved his two roommates and their little interactions over text.
Up until the last 15 pages of this book, I thought for sure that it would be a solid 2.75 star read. But never say never because in those last 15 pages was the WORST confession I've had the misfortune of reading. I had to skim through it just to get it over with. Don't think I'll be picking a book by this author again.
I loved this book by @kayleebaldwinbooks . It's the second book in the series! I'd highly recommend reading the first book in the series "Me and Mr Just Right". I read the first book in 2023 and loved it. I'm so glad we're getting more of the Forrester siblings.
Rosie is the youngest of 4 with 3 older, protective brothers. It's a theme throughout the whole book and how she doesn't feel like she has the freedom to be herself.
I loved watching the growth of both Rosie and Dylan figuring out their worth is more than what they thought it was, and that there's more to life. I thought Rosie was a super fun character, she was a little reckless but she has a good heart that drives her recklessness
The hype was definitely correct on this one, much to my relief. The number of times that the general community goes gangbusters for a book and it lands like a deflated balloon has happened way too many times for my liking. I say this because even though this seemed to be immediately beloved, I waded in with low expectations still and just hoping for a book I felt like finishing. But yes, I absolutely loved this, it was brilliants.
Spoilers.
We're introduced to Dylan at the very beginning of his growth arc. He's hurting over the loss of his best friend and is the poster child for the saying "hurt people hurt people". After getting into some more trouble, he's benched from his hockey team for the rest of the season and reluctantly returns to his hometown to try to regroup.
Enter Rosie, who lives in said hometown and has a lot going on in her own life. She's trying to build a relationship with her previously absentee father, keep a roof over her head and her business running. To gain some additional income she decides to rent her second apartment (the economics of Rosie's life is too complicated to expound upon), which is how her an Dylan's worlds combine (or more literally, collide).
My first impressions of Rosie and Dylan were interesting (because I did go into this read with low expectations). In the first few chapters I was super wary of Rosie's character because I don't generally unequivocally love these "quirky, sunshine" characters. I can do. But when their characterisation isn't done right it just comes across as a collection of quirks and boundary-crossing behaviours as a shortcut for actual character development (can you tell I've been holding this back for a while). All this to say is for the first few chapters I was like "oh no she's one of those" and I was so so wrong.
Dylan on the other hand is this tight ball of anger and hurt, and he's decision making was so poor, it was frustrating. So my initial thoughts on him were frustration but waiting to see where his character would go.
And for both Rosie and Dylan, after the first few chapters(and literally the first 2 or 3 chapters), once we get past the setup and premise and they meet the story immediately takes off, and I was instantly charmed by both Rosie, Dylan, and Rosie and Dylan.
I enjoyed the whole world that Bladwin built in this story. The whole things felt incredibly lived in. And I enjoyed how it felt almost like I really was dropped into the middle of these people's lives. I especially loved all the dynamics. Dylan's complicated relationships with his dad, his mum, his sister, his teammates, his close friends. All of it was exquisite. Rosie also, with her sense of self and he desire to be accepted by her father, so well earned, all of it.
And I especially loved Dylan and Rosie's relationship. This was a couple that you could get behind, and the progression of being almost contentious strangers, to reluctant friends, to very good companions to more is this genre done right.
And lastly, this book was funnnny. Laugh out loud funny, which is rare for me because humour is such a specific thing.
Anyhoo will definitely be giving more of Baldwn's books a look.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was my first time reading anything by this author, and wow, I was blown away! This book is the perfect mix of heart, humor, and a swoonworthy romance. Rosie and Dylan's story hooked me from the very beginning.
Rosie is a struggling artist who takes on Dylan as her new tenant to help make ends meet. Dylan, a grieving hockey player, is spiraling after a tragic loss and gets sent back home to sit out the rest of the season. Rosie needs Dylan’s help to win over Max, the local bookshop owner she’s secretly in love with. Dylan needs Rosie to help him fix his tarnished image. Together, they agree to fake date, but soon, it starts working too well. Are they even pretending anymore? And what happens if the plan works... she ends up with Max, and Dylan leaves town and returns to hockey?!
Rosie is such a relatable character: creative, a hopeless romantic, a little chaotic, and determined to chase her dreams despite the odds. And Dylan? He’s the perfect grumpy hockey player, full of vulnerability that makes you fall for him right along with Rosie. Their banter is hilarious, their chemistry is undeniable, and honestly, some of their moments together are the sweetest, swooniest scenes I’ve ever read. You’ll just have to read it to see for yourself!
I loved how their deal brought them together despite their differences. Watching them grow, heal, and discover what truly matters (beyond their original goals) was so satisfying. The small-town setting and delightful side characters (I LOVE her brothers, so funny!) added so much charm to the story.
✨ What to Expect: 🏰 Beauty and the Beast vibes 🎨 Artist 🏒 Hockey player 🐱 Skinless cat chaos 📱 Friend/Sibling chats 💑 Fake dating 🎩 Pride & Prejudice vibes 🛏️ One bed 🏡 Small town charm 💋 Kiss ratings & practice 🚪 Next-door neighbors
This was a solid 5-star read for me, and I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author! I think there was a book prior to this one that is calling for me to read it! LOL!
I received a complimentary copy of this story. The rating and review reflect my honest opinion.
Rosie decides to rent out her extra apartment to earn some quick cash and is surprised to find her new tenant is a famous hockey player, who also happens to be incredibly handsome...
Dylan needs a place to lay low while he picks up the pieces of his life and tries to earn his way back onto his team. He does not expect his new landlord to be young, beautiful and with a criminal record.
When Rosie proposes an idea to Dylan that will both improve his image AND help her get the attention of her local crush, he agrees. But fake unexpectedly turns into real and Rosie and Dylan are both in danger of losing their hearts despite knowing once Dylan returns to hockey, their time together is at an end.
What you'll love: fake dating hockey player MMC artist FMC dual pov small town painting fences hilarious meet-cute the Forrester siblings one bed Lizzie Rosie’s record first kiss!! grand gesture softball game THAT ENDING!!
Where is the six star option? Seriously, because this adorable deserves them all! From the Beauty and the Beast vibes to the Pride and Prejudice references, this book had me at hello and I could not get enough!!
Loved the dynamics between Rosie and Dylan and how they helped each other learn and how it was all weaved so well into their character arcs. They were SO fun together (oh my gosh, the painting!!) and I was shipping the from page one. But it wasn't just their relationship and the incredibly swoony tension and romance that I loved. The story line, the side characters, the laugh out loud moments, the banter and teasing, the setting, and we can't forget to mention Lizzie the hairless cat...it was all so well done! I truly fell in love with every.single.thing about this book!!!
This is a story about family, finding love, and second chances, about loving and accepting yourself. It gave me all the feels and has earned a spot on my favorites shelf! Now I need to go back and read the first book in the series as I eagerly awaiting the next book!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
"If I'm in a relationship with someone, even if it's a fake one like this, I'm in it one hundred percent."
Rosie and Dylan have set the bar high for 2025!!! I know it's only January, but I'm pretty sure this book will make my top 10 RomComs list this year!
Fake dating is actually one of my favorite tropes, if done right, and let me tell you...this was done right! All the little touches and stolen glances, and the way they slowly opened up to one another, were so well timed. The evolution of their relationship felt completely natural and authentic.
The character growth and depth of character in this book is fantastic. I love that Dylan and Rosie both face the hard stuff and walk through it together. They seem to intuitively know how to help the other heal, knowing when to be there and when to give space. The friendship that develops between them is every bit as sweet as the romance.
Read for: * The sibling relationships * Kissing practice * Community service painting * The cemetary * Ice skating * Baseball * I wore your jersey, now it's your turn to wear mine * Painful meet-cute * Group texts * P&P references * Dylan's reaction to Rosie's mural * Dylan having read "the book" * Sheriff Savage showing Rosie what a dad should be * The (brother's) Beast list * The grand gesture
Fave Quotes: * "Sure, this relationship wasn't real. But what did real mean anyway? Reality was probably a construct of the patriarchy created solely to keep me from kissing Dylan Savage in a crumbling graveyard. So rude, if you ask me."
* "Rosie, I haven't seen anything coming since I met you."
* "Dylan Savage was totally a Mr. Darcy. He was never a Wickham, or a Gaston for that matter (except in looks, maybe). He was wholly, one hundred percent the romantic lead in my personal story. And I'd just successfully imploded his life."
I can't wait to get my hands on whatever Kaylee Baldwin writes next, but until then I will be diving into her backlist!
Rating: 4.5/5 I received an eARC for my honest opinion.
I found this book about Rosie and Dylan aka The Beast to be so cute, I didn’t realize that there was a book before this one, but now that I know this, I will be reading that book. I loved that I didn’t have to read book one first because it can be read as a standalone. When you read this book you will find some great tropes, fake dating, pride and prejudice vibes, hockey player, grumpy vs sunshine, small town romance and great humor.
I love how this author writes; it just flows and you will find yourself devouring this book so fast. I was able to finish it up with one day of reading. I thought the pace of the book was just right for me, it was fast and always something going on which I loved. I liked that the author added in the right amount of details throughout the book where you will not find yourself bored while reading it. I found the characters to have been done great and I wasn’t lacking in development with them. With Rosie being the sweetheart of the town who will do anything for any of her friends and the townspeople, when she needs even more money to help out a family member, she rents out one of her rooms above the art studio. This would be great but when she finds out that It's Dylan who has taken a hiatus from his team after the death of a teammate/best friend. Back at home you will watch these two heal each other and grow to understand that they’re both amazing the way that they’re.
I thought the characters were wonderful, I loved getting to watch them grow, watching Rosie become her own person. I loved watching her understand herself better and accepting who she is. Dylan, it was great watching him understand death and grief and overcome the hardships that he has in his past. I loved watching Rosie help him overcome everything and bring out the softer side of him and I loved the softer side that he would show to her and then to everyone else. I liked the fake dating in this book, I found it to be cute and I could understand why Rosie would think that would help her case, but at the same time I was like a girl... see what is in front of you. I laughed so many times with all the great banter in this book. I would go on and on but I won’t because if I do I will leave spoilers and I don’t want to. Just know that if you love cute romcoms you need to read this book and if you like retellings of Pride and Prejudice.
I want to thank Kaylee Baldwin for the opportunity to review this book.
Just starting with the siblings interactions, it was amazing! Lol, I'm sorry dudes but Pride & Prejudice is an international treasure, more respect😂
I love the whole story. It just had such depth behind it. Dylan's pov is just so tough from the start, so raw and open. It just made me want to give him a hug💞
Bret and Gage were such good friends to Dyl. I was so happy to see their friendship... Beyond just being teammates🏒. Their plan was the best😂.
Rosie & Dylan's first meeting was hilarious 😂. I loved their interactions! These two were so good for each other. I love when the proposition happens, how he's just so comfortable with her and viceversa.
✨ “For the record,” I whispered, my words stirring the tiny hairs around her ears, “I like all the sides of Rosie and don’t find a single one of them predictable.” ✨
Rosie was delightful. So chaotically amazing. She was real, kind and thoughtful. She had rough experiences too. I love her relationship with her siblings. How she opened up to Dylan? 🔥. It was refreshing seeing these two trusting each other. I mean, her telling the chair incident?😂👌🏻.
Dylan had so much to work on. My man😭 he was really hit by grief. Watching him go through it with the help of Rosie and friends was epic. He is a sweetheart! I love his "all in, getting the girl" act. The last chapter was perfect! The epilogue was amazing.
I love this book so much. The whole series is truly becoming in my top 10 for sure🔥So amazingly well done by Kaylee. She just got herself a fan of her work. Count me in for reading whatever she comes up with!
I can't wait for the other brother's stories!
Scenes I loved: 💪🏻 Dyl's workouts 🍺 The sports bar 🛏️ The mattresses 😂🔥😍 🎨The wall paint 🔥 ⚾ The game 😂 The link
⚠️TW: loss of a loved one (family and friends); abandonment
✨* I was kindly gifted an ARC from the author. This doesn't influence in any form my review/opinion of the book*
This was a cute book. Rosie and the Beast Next Door is the first book that I have read by Kaylee Baldwin but I ended up really enjoying it! The story was fun and I liked the banter. It is the second book in Kaylee Baldwin’s Enchanted Forresters series. Rosie was kind of crazy at times but she grew on me as I read the book. She was trying her best to prove herself and I felt for her as she tried to make sense of her life. She felt young at times but she was also kind. I loved reading about her growing and learning to let others in, seeing that she didn’t have to have life figured out. I love how she could be herself with Dylan. Dylan definitely felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. He was angry but he was also hurting. Dylan had to grow throughout the book too, as he learned that he didn’t have to hold the weight of the world on his shoulders. I liked reading about him connecting with Rosie and learning to forgive and grow throughout the book. Dylan and Rosie had a fun relationship. They started off as kind of strangers but moved to more as they worked together to help each other out. I liked reading about their interactions, and they helped make each other better. The romance was sweet and it fit them. I adored the side characters, especially Rosie’s brothers. They need their own books. I really enjoyed this book and would totally recommend it. The characters and story were fun. Rosie and the Beast Next Door is a closed door romantic comedy.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
“I might not be selling my soul to the devil, but I was selling it to Rosie Forrester, and I wasn’t sure if there was all that much difference.”
Every nook and cranny of this delightful book thrilled my heart and soul. Rosie The group texts between Rosie and her brothers were everything and I laughed over every single one. She rents part of her space to Dylan–a bad boy hockey player coming home for a reset. Right from the start, she knocks some sense into his thick head and the magical allure of everything chaotic and anything but relaxing ensues with the banter and antics between these two. A hilarious meet cute always snaps my attention. And what better way to change his image and help her win the guy of her dreams than to fake date?
Rosie is pure joy and her exuberance for everything in life is contagious. Although she jumps right into things and finds herself in sticky situations, even in constant trouble with the law, everyone loves and adores her, and that makes her the perfect complement for the brooding “Beast” of a man next door–Dylan, who is dealing with a lot. There’s nothing I love more than two well-written and complex characters. I loved watching the walls fall, brick by brick, but it was every single interaction and connection on all the levels that had me holding my breath.
Every single moment of this story snagged my attention and spoke to me.
Content: talk of grief due to off-page death; mild romance (swoony kissing, light innuendo); manipulative/absent parent
*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given*
Rosie needs cash and Dylan needs a place to stay, or should I say hide out after this hockey player has embarrassed himself and lived up to his nickname the Beast. Rosie and Dylan's first meeting is completely hilarious, maybe not so for Dylan, but for me as the reader.
These two are definitely polar opposites. Rosie is a fixer and protector who loves all creatures, great and small, and she will go to great lengths to protect them, even risk getting a ticket. You will understand when you read the book. She is charming and trusting, which some will take advantage of.
This definitely had Beauty and the Beast vibes, which made this book even more charming. I loved everything about Rosie. I knew that Dylan just needed the right person to steer him in the right direction and tear away all that beastly attitude, so he was not quite so scary. If anyone can remake him, it would be Rosie. Their agreement to help one another is quite comical and so incredibly swoony.
One disaster after another brings laughter and some tears, but mostly just a warm, fuzzy feeling. Rosie's brothers add plenty of comic relief. They give new meaning to being overprotective brothers, but you will learn there is a very good reason for their overprotectiveness.
I have read books by Kaylee Baldwin, but this one completely blew me away. The charm, the healing of hearts, the comic relief and even the sad moments made this book a complete winner. This is a well deserved five stars.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh my goodness, Rosie and Dylan. ❤️ Read for: -Darcy Vibes -Witty banter -Hairless cats -Hockey player -Whimsical paintings -Fake dating -Romantic Tension (uh, them painting scene) -Small town charm -Redemption -One bed -Practices kisses and getting the perfect 10 of kissing -Baseball “that’s for you” moment
I absolutely adore Rosie and her artistic free spirit. Every time she got caught in a shenanigan, I laughed so hard. Dylan definitely needed a wake up call by being sent away from the hockey team to deal with all of his grief and trauma.
“Rosie, I haven’t seen anything coming since I met you.”
I love their fake dating scenario and how everything evolved in that small town. Rosie’s ability to look at the positive and laugh at things really helps Dylan’s perspective. She’s looking for her Mr. Darcy and Dylan is not it…right? “Because light attracts light—even when you can’t see it in yourself. Even when other people try to convince you it doesn’t exist.”
There was some seriously fun kissing and flirting scenes. Those 2 had connection and tension off the wall! It warmed my heart how protective Dylan was and how Rosie couldn't admit he was like a Darcy.
“To have someone listen and care? It was nice. Having melted bones might not sound pleasant, but somehow it was.”
I loved her brothers and the relationship they shared, they are the best and her dad….
“I like knowing your secrets.” Whoa. I liked him knowing them too. Especially if you earned me butterfly-light kisses that sent my heart fluttering and my thoughts scattering.
The relationship between Rosie and the town was spectacular. Her entire goal was to make Dylan see that he was lovable, by the town, his family, teammates, they never blamed him or wanted to leave. They were proud of him no matter what. He wanted her to see she was enough as she was.
Dylan Savage, pro hockey player has been sent home from the team for bad attitude. He has alienated his teammates, family, and fans. So he has been taken from the team for the end of the season. Mainly it is grief and guilt that has hm in knots since his best friend died on the ice during a game. He fills like he has let his best friend down, his family and himself. Rosie Forrester is the youngest of four. Her three older brothers try to wrap her wool and keep her safe. But it makes her feel inadequate. So she works extra hard to appear self reliant. She is an amazing artist and lives in Dylan's hometown. She knows the sheriff, Dylan's dad, really well. She gets into mischief easily. She is like a pixie delightful, charming, sweet and likes to paint on unusual surfaces, like the portrait she did of the sheriff on the wall of the public library. One day her father turns up in town and he is a grifter. She wants him to love her so she gives him room and board and all her tips from her waitress job. She is not telling her brothers because they would run him off. So she decides to rent her apartment to Dylan for more money and stays in the rundown second apartment that needs work. Rosie sees that Dylan know how to catch the eye of the ladies by weightlifting without a shirt in front of the window. So since she has a crush on Max that owns the bookstore she proposes to help Dylan on his media presence if he tries to make Max notice her. We all know how this will turn out and it is a fabulous ride.
