Thank you NetGalley and Lexi Davis for the opportunity to review this ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This was one spicy little number! It was like watching a dark version of Greys Anatomy with lots of trigger warnings. Jessica is a struggling teacher who goes for her annual check up with West. He’s been crushing on her since high school but she doesn’t remember him. So of course she must be his. The chemistry between the two characters, tension, possessiveness, and emotional depth made it unable to put this book down.

This book had a lot of things that I liked and then a few that just were not for me. In this book, Jessica’s annual OBGYN visit ends with a bang (cough, wink) when she meets Dr. Adam West. He is hot and very in control. She shouldn’t like what happened but she does and she wants more of him. West wants more of Jessica because, unbeknown to her, they went to high school together and he was obsessed with her then and he’s even more obsessed with her now. But he’s broken and has a dark side that he isn’t sure Jessica can handle. And yet, he still wants her. How will they fit together and how will they navigate this connection?

I really enjoyed Jessica. She was open-hearted and strong. I liked that her agency grew as the book progressed. I generally enjoyed West. He was our broken, rich, possessive male lead and fit that trope well. I thought his story got richer the more we found out about him, which I feel like is sometimes rare in dark romances (the MMC is just the way he is without much explanation). I appreciated that there were times when Jessica said “actually, this is NOT okay with me and you are acting insane” as a way to add some rationality to the book, though I am not sure that I understood Jessica’s thinking process in the very end.

Without spoiling anything, it was my first time reading a dark medical romance and some of the spice scenes just were not for me. But that is what I enjoy most about dark romance books. You get a chance to read about activities or scenarios to see how you feel about them in a safe environment. And if those things are for you, then that is dope! And if they aren’t, also dope!

Thank you to the author for providing this eARC! All opinions are my own.

This was NOT what I expected. I thought we’d get some weird, mindless smut, but this was so much more! It is SO well written and there were so many emotions and heartfelt moments that shocked the hell out of me. I definitely recommend this.

“I can fulfill all your fantasies in this room, Jessica. Even the ones you’re too scared to imagine, too timid to admit to yourself. You can be your true self here. There’s no judgment. Only pleasure. Only you and me.”

Jessica Jones (25-ish, teacher) is going for her yearly exam, and this year she has a new doc. When sexy Adam West (29-ish, gynecologist) starts the exam, she finds herself aroused, and luckily for her, the good Doc knows exactly where to touch.

Dr. West takes his job very seriously, and has never crossed the line, but when his obsession from high school ends up on his exam table, ALL of his repressed feelings come flooding back and his careful control is shattered. Jessica is on board with seeing where things go, but West has more issues to overcome. There are a lot of reasons why he never made a move on her back in high school – and they lead us to unexpected places.

Exams, ropes, pee holes, thunderstorms, tracking, “Paging Dr. West”, obsession, thermometers, speculums, a penny, class presentation, and the sweetest love story for a HEA.

“I love you, Jess. My pretty girl. I’ve loved you forever, and I’m going to keep on loving you until my bones break and my heart stops. That’s the only thing that will ever separate us because I’m never ever leaving you, and you can’t leave me either.”

SEX: Not nearly as filthy as I expected. The first “O” happens on the exam table at the very beginning. First bang at 21%, and it’s just a hard fuck. They have another pounding at 36%, and then we start getting some good stuff. The thing I hated was that they always used condoms, at least until the 71% mark!!! WHYYYYY would you mess up the sex like that?!?! He’s a doctor and knows they are both clean. He knows she’s on birth control. The condoms ruin all the hotness. That also left me disappointed with the afterglow moments. As far as kink, there’s the normal tying up and things in the ass. The only thing that tripped me out was the thermometer. I’m trying to convince people to test it out, but so far no one has agreed to it. Overall, I enjoyed the sex. Especially towards the end.

PLOT: I seriously loved this and did not think we’d get into such deep emotional territory. There were a few times I cried!!! Adam’s origin story had me feeling the full encyclopedia of emotions. Ugh I kind of want to read it again.

JESSICA: Guess what – she doesn’t suck! One of the things I really loved about her was at the end, when we discover some of the more “unconventional” methods he uses to show his love, she really examined the reasons and eventually accepted that she’s not the only one with needs. Props to her for that.

AUDIO: I don’t know if there is audio, but it if it was a duet, I'd totally buy it.

I was originally only giving this a 4 because of the condom use, but all the feelings had me upping it to a 5.

it was okay, but didn't like most things in the book.

he liked her in highschool, but she never knew him (he said he was a nerd/loser and has some trauma from it)
he's a whore, and big whore actually.
he's very experienced, and has a whole kink room in his condo which he brings women to, which he ALSO brought her to (disturbing btw)
she's had okay/bad sex (for fucks sake 🙄)
and he's SO rude, it was irritating like ew.
he's also afraid of commitment (pussy)
she's also such a doormat, oh my god, like leave the lil bitch you deserve better, but oh well.

FMC - Jessica: 5 🌟
MMC - Adam: 5 🌟
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Likes: I was hooked from the very first chapter! Dr. West is just delicious 😋 And Jessica is such a good balance for him. I know there's things about him I'm not supposed to approve of, but call me crazy because I really do love how possessive he is of Jessica. Why do I always have to fall in love with the stalkers? 😆

Besides my new addiction to hot stalker doctors, this book was written really well. It held my attention from the very beginning, I loved the little tidbits of humor sprinkled in, and it was wrapped up so nicely in the end 💕

Dislikes: The only moment in the book that I didn't like was Jessica's reaction when she found out that Adam knew who she was the whole time. Yeah, it was unexpected, but it shouldn't be a deal breaker. Now, what she later discovers when going through his security footage, THAT was an appropriate reaction 😆

Overall, I LOVED this book!

Favorite moment: Adam giving Jessica the penny 💕

Who doesn’t love a spicy love story?! I really enjoyed this book, it had just the right amount of spice, very likable characters, well paced & well written. Jessica goes for a health exam & in walks Dr. McDreamy! She stunned when she realizes how gorgeous this man is, and it causes her to act like a teenage school girl with a crush. Little does she know, their pasts have intertwined years ago, she just doesn’t remember… But he definitely does.

Overall a solid read that makes me want to read more from this author. I especially liked the character growth in Dr. West as he dealt with his childhood trauma, while trying to “adult” & find love. His vulnerability was refreshing & although he had some unorthodox methods of showing his love towards Jessica, I still loved his character. Thank you Lexi Davis, Victory Editing and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

Deeply Examined by Lexi Davis

Extremely dark and spicy—check your trigger warnings before diving in!

That being said, I really enjoyed this book! It’s intense, steamy, and packed with emotional tension. The premise? A woman goes in for a doctor’s appointment only to discover that her doctor is the man who had a major crush on her back in high school.

The doctor/patient dynamic is done so well—if that’s a fantasy of yours, this one will hit the spot. I especially loved the romance between a morally grey man and an innocent sweetheart. The chemistry is off the charts, but there’s more than just spice here. The plot holds its own, and the relationship development is solid and satisfying.

Big thanks to Nerd Fam and the author for the gifted ARC! If you're into dark, spicy reads with a good dose of emotional pull, Deeply Examined needs to be on your TBR.

Big thanks to Lexi Davis for the chance to dive into this spicy ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Whew — this book was hot. Imagine if Grey’s Anatomy had a darker, steamier cousin with serious Fifty Shades vibes... that's what you're in for. Jessica, a teacher just trying to survive the school year, heads in for her annual check-up and ends up face-to-face with West — her insanely attractive doctor who's been low-key obsessed with her since high school (even though she doesn’t remember him).

From there? Fireworks. The chemistry is off the charts, the tension builds with every page, and West’s mix of possessiveness and vulnerability had me hooked. This one had me up late flipping pages — 10/10 would recommend if you’re in the mood for a steamy, emotional ride.

My Rating: 3.75 ⭐⭐⭐💫 (Rounded up for GR)

We Have:
✅ Obsession From Childhood
✅ Dark Doctor Romance
✅ Morally Gray MMC with a Hypodermic Kink
✅ Grumpy x Sunshine
✅ Forced Proximity (Penthouse Edition)
✅ Emotional Intensity… With a Pulse
✅ Adult Communication (Praise the Smut Lords)
✅ Suspense + Secrets
✅ No Miscommunication Nonsense

I cracked this one open thinking I’d be mildly intrigued. I ended up squealing, cackling, and whispering “sir, what the actual fuck” more times than I can count. This book is unhinged in the best possible way, and Dr. Adam West is absolutely the problem—and also the solution.

We’re talking full-on obsession that started in high school and never died. Like… stalker tendencies, implanted trackers, “you belong to me” energy dripping from every scene. And honestly, I'm not mad at it. I like my men fictional and feral. The man stabbed her with a tracking device and then made it romantic. Stab me softly, daddy.😏😏

Adam gave Sylvan (Surrender) energy—possessive, batshit, morally bankrupt—but wrapped in a white coat and laced with emotional precision. He walked the line between calculated control and unhinged affection like it was foreplay. He was everything.

Jessica (our FMC) held her own, too. She wasn’t blindly naive or a passive doormat. She asked questions, saw the red flags, and still consciously chose to stay in the penthouse of potential destruction. And that’s what makes a heroine likable—awareness and agency, even when she's being emotionally raw-dogged by a man who says things like, “You’re mine. You’ve always been mine.”

The dual POV worked for me even when I wanted to scream “girl, he’s not gonna hurt you” from inside the pages. But that’s part of the ride. Watching her navigate the line between danger and devotion gave the tension room to breathe without dragging us through the usual miscommunication hellscape.

This wasn’t a book about deep healing or emotional catharsis. This was about unfiltered obsession, dirty love, and a man who decided that once he had a taste, he was never letting go. The plot was engaging, the smut was frequent and creative (yes, I said creative), and the pacing kept me locked in and hungry for more.

Final thoughts..... It didn’t quite scrape a 4.0 for me, but it’s sitting real pretty at a juicy 3.75. This is a superb palette cleanser—entertaining, spicy, and absolutely wild in ways that scratched every morally gray itch in my brain. Not a ton of feels, but the suspense, tension, and vibes... Fully operational.

Thanks to @authorlexidavis for this arc.

This is the first Dark Medical Romance I have ever read- and honestly couldn't have asked for a better introduction.

It was faced-paced, steamy & had a nice bit of batter between the MC's throughout even though it was for the most part a dark read. (check the trigger warnings)
I really enjoyed both characters and their development as the book goes on, we learn why each of them are the way they are. ( Dont want to give too much away) and i felt both characters were made for each other.

The spice was SPICING - scenes were steamy & the characters had great chemistry together(In and out of the doctors surgery) 😂 it was very well written😍

Maybe I'm sheltered but I never knew medical play was a whole thing - and well, I'm not mad about about it🤣!

I would definitely recommend this book. If you are looking for something dark, steamy, fast-paced, not to mention a HOTTT morally-grey Doctor ( can't pass up that chance 😂)then this is for you. I finished it in one sitting.

Deeply Examined by Lexi Davis is a dark, twisted, medical romance that is filled with loads of spice and triggers. So ensure to look these up prior to proceeding with the book.

Doctors have rules to follow, a code to adhere to but when Jessica shows up in his office (a dream girl from his past), Dr. West takes things to a deeper level. A darker level. He ignores his code of conduct and his obsession begins….

This story was a fairly quick read for me. The characters were described well to ensure the reader sees their personalities clearly on the page. Both main characters are troubled in their own way. Whether it be due to things from the past or present.

The growth of this relationship is dark, chaotic and explorative. Many detailed, off the charts, twisted schmexy scenes are within this book. Use of Drs tools and materials are at play.

This book dives deep into the reasons why Dr. West is the way he is which touches on abuse and mental health conditions.

There is a plot, but this book is very much based on a dark, spice-filled relationship. One with strong obsessive and controlling behaviour.

I enjoyed this book but please look at the triggers before reading, just in case.

Needless to say, this is my first dark medical read…. And now I need more suggestions sent my way.

4.5 Stars. This one is an unapologetically steamy, spicy, AND smutty, dark medical romance that leans all the way into its forbidden setup and then cranks the tension to eleven. It delivers a ride that’s as sinfully spicy and smutty as it is emotionally intense, complete with a morally gray, dominant doctor and a sunshine heroine who isn’t afraid to push back.

Jessica and Adam have a chemistry that practically scorches the page from the first meeting, and once the forced proximity kicks in, it’s game over. There’s banter, there’s possessiveness, and yes, there’s enough spice to make a seasoned reader blush. But underneath the heat is a slow-unraveling emotional thread that adds surprising depth—and a few well-placed gut punches.

I’m so grateful that I was gifted this arc!!
This is a taboo dark romance between a doctor and his patient. He’s known her since childhood, but does she recognize him? Unlikely. The quiet, chubby boy who once faded into the background is gone, replaced by a confident, well-respected doctor. Meanwhile, she’s no longer the queen bee she used to be. Their roles have flipped, creating a compelling and tension-filled dynamic.

I enjoyed what this book had to offer—it was undeniably passionate and intriguing, I’d rate it 3 stars. Without revealing too much, this was my first experience with a dark medical romance, and while some of the intimate scenes weren’t quite my taste, that’s what I appreciate about dark romance as a genre. At times I felt like it was rushed but done perfectly if that makes any sense at all. Other than that it slayyyed!!

This book was f^cking hot but also wildly insane lmao the first half had me intrigued but then my interest fluctuated up and down as the story kept on going.

Ending was pretty good but I really felt like this man really did not like his love interest for a while and showed it 🥲

I will say, the beginning was 🔥🔥🔥 & I felt like I needed a shower as soon I started reading WHEW

My first dark medical romance an My first dark medical romance and I must say WHAT A GREAT START!!!!!

A dark, spicy medical romance in which a doctor knows no bounds as he develops a deep crush on one of his *specific* patients, who coincidentally happens to be from the same high school he attended. Is this obsession new or a throwback to those days? Is this stalking or just a coincidence?👁️👄👁️

Do I still need to remind you all about SPICEEEEE in this book? I have already said a lot about them in the separate reviews of all three books. BCOZ SPICE IS SPICINNNNN 🥵🥵🔥. What started as a doctor patient relationship ends with an intense steamy romantic connection between them. Definitely recommend!!!

Tropes-

💘 Forbidden love
💉 Doctor/patient
🍎 High school crush/obsession
⚔️ Possessive anti-hero
🫣 He's obsessed

Firstly, I want to say thank you to the author Lexi Davis for allowing me the chance to be part of the ARC for Deeply Examined, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

The story follows Jessica, a school teacher who attends her annual physical exam, only to find herself face-to-face with Dr. Adam West—a brooding, dark-haired physician with a hidden past. What begins as an unorthodox and undeniably charged examination quickly escalates into a forbidden relationship. As Jessica faces threats, Dr. West becomes possessive and overprotective, leading to a forced proximity that blurs the lines between patient and doctor. Their connection deepens, intertwining passion with unresolved trauma and unspoken desires.

Personally, I really enjoyed reading Deeply Examined. From the moment I started, it had me hooked and I just wanted to know how things turned out for Jessica and Adam, which the ending did not disappoint! The character development throughout was incredible, and learning more about Adam helped to understand him better as a person. Jessica’s development worked so well with the story also, becoming confident and independent, which we love to see!

If you’re a fan of dark romance I would highly recommend! Deeply Examined is available on 24th April 2025 so you don’t have to wait long at all to get it added to your library!

Please check the trigger warnings before reading!

When I signed up for a medical themed DR, this is not what I expected. Are we going to overlook that Dr. West essentially SA’d her at her exam? Like how do you not realize that your doctor is finger banging you during a pelvic exam?

Where was the plot? That’s all I can really say about that.

The characters were very lackluster as well. Jessica was naive and really kind of ignorant. Dr. West gave off creepy, predator vibes. He delivered a brand new bed to her house for their “first date” and again, ole girl thought nothing of it?? Okaaaay.

I lost it when she put the thermometer in his dick. I’m sorry, what? I had to google to see if this was an actual kink. And while I’m not a kink shamer, that was one I couldn’t get behind. Ma’am, that’s the thermometer the school nurse puts under kids arms 🥴

Jessica's (h) routine checkup with Dr. Adam West (H) takes an unexpected turn when undeniable chemistry sparks between them. What begins as a simple appointment soon spirals into a dangerous mix of passion and obsession. As West’s protective instincts push him to demand Jessica move in with him, their connection deepens beyond the physical, blurring lines between love and control.

─── ・ 。゚☆: THOUGHTS*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

“I have a past I’m not proud of, so I’d rather not talk about it.”

“Fine. Then don’t. Talk about the present. Tell me about your day, about your favorite food so I can cook it for you. Teach me about the stock market, about medicine. If you don’t want to look backward, we can look forward.”

“I think I can do that. At least I’ll try,” I promise. I raise my wine glass to her. “To the future.”

I don’t even know how to explain it, but I LOVE this book. I love how Adam has been obsessed with her for years. I love the doctor-patient trope. I love how unhinged and possessive he is but also has that soft, sweet side. I’m so obsessed. AN ACTUAL MARSHMALLOW SOFTIE. I loved it. I really did. I can’t even pretend to be a hater because I just loved every second of it 💯 The way he showed up for Jessica and then suddenly they were living together!!! And he lowkey didn’t want her to ever leave 😩. He was just always watching over her, put a tracker IN HER and her earrings with a mic and everything 👀MY BABY. He has wanted her since high school and thought he could never have her—and then just completely let go of his moral code as her doctor FOR HER 😩💖

“I can fulfill all your fantasies in this room, Jessica. Even the ones you’re too scared to imagine, too timid to admit to yourself. You can be your true self here. There’s no judgment. Only pleasure. Only you and me.”

I’m not even gonna bother reading other reviews because I don’t want anything messing with how much I loved this book 🤭💗 It’s 100% a guilty pleasure read and I’m so okay with that. There were moments I loved just because West was completely unhinged and so pathetically in love 😩💘 Like the shift from “I don’t want to kiss you” to him being all vulnerable, doing whatever he could to get her back, and finally accepting who he is?? Yeah. Good for him 🥺 AND that scene where he reverts back to being a little kid because of the trauma from his mom??? Jess got him to feel safe again 🥹🫶 MY SHAYLAAAA. She really brought him back. And don’t even get me started on how he handled Brad so he’d never bother her again, or how he made it very clear his coworker was never touching her again—like??? He was SO DOWN BADDDD 😭He loves her, no question. He knew it was possessive and unhinged, but he didn’t care, and honestly? He wouldn’t change. That’s just who he is—and it was all for her 💌❤️

“Be mad at me, hate me. I don’t care.” His fingers trail down my ribs. “Hate me at breakfast, hate me while you sleep next to me, hate me when I’m deep inside you making you scream. You can hate me all you want, just do it at home. Please. Come home.”

GIRL. Don’t even get me started on the medical play. It was so HOT. He is hot. I love the gradual shift too—from him hating his name to Jess calling him Adam instead of West. OH how far he came. He is SO OBSESSED, but the love never wavered. When Jess used the safe word?? I was in shambles. It was so sad!!! But still, I think the book did such a great job showing how they bonded over time and really got to know each other just by living together. It was actually so sweet, especially since he was so guarded and didn’t like getting close to people—because he never got real affection or gifts from anyone, ever. (He even teared up over her gift 🥹). But he became a softer version of himself for her. WESTTTTT. My man, actually.

─── ・ 。゚☆: OVERALL*.☽ .*:☆゚. ───

I know a lot of people might not like the trope itself, but it ate. I had so much FUN reading this. Like, for the first time in a long time, I actually want to reread a book. That never happens. I don’t care what anyone says—I loved it and I’d reread it in a heartbeat.

adam’s past had me fucking crying 😭 especially that last few chapters of this book. i couldn’t stop reading and when it was over i just cried some more. this man is complicated, controlling, possessive, and holds so much baggage. the way i feel for that little boy inside him 🥹 i just want to hug him and kiss him. he never knew love. he never thought it would be something for him in this life. but when he reconnected with his high school obsession jessica he couldn’t help but make her his in every way 🫀 jessica is such a sweetheart with a dark side. she never knew her fantasies could become real until she learned about adam’s secret. he brings out the darkness in her and she craves it 🥰

these two are just so perfect for each other. i absolutely can not wait to read more from this series !! i have a feeling monica and parker are going to have me SLIPPING TRIPPING AND STUMBLING 😮‍💨

Did I ruin my sleep pattern this week for this book? Yes, absolutely. Do I regret it? No, give me more of Lexi Davis books right now.

Adam, or West, is a broken, possessive, obsessive man, who is only soft, caring and loving towards one person. Jess.

This book pulled me in within the first 2 chapters, and left me wanting to read more and more. It’s a very different introduction (at least for me) to the spark between these two characters, but for me it’s so well written, it was just immediately there! Especially since there’s a reason for it. The spark has in some way always been there. At least for one of them.

I can’t wait to read more books from Lexi Davis, thank you so so much for the arc. I’m so grateful to having been introduced to your books!

“He’s like the ocean—advancing to high tide and then retreating, leaving broken seashells in his wake.”

“She tilts her head back, laughter bubbling up her throat. I want so badly to capture that sound in a bottle, to live in this perfect moment with her forever.”

“I used to think I had no heart, but that’s not the case. I do have one, but it’s in your chest. You hold my heart. You’re out there walking around, getting into danger, being reckless with my heart.”
