Soap making is a very complicated business by the look of it, but this book does guide you through it better than the other book I've read. There is a ton of equipment and ingredients you need to buy to get going and that is rather off-putting. This book gives you more ideas on what type of soap to make and how to personalise those bars to sell.
There is one thing which I'm not keen on, you need lye to do something with the ingredients to make them come together and set, but lye is a dangerous ingredient to work with. This author does guide you through this but as a beginner I'm not sure I would exactly know what I'm doing. I'm beginning to feel uncomfortable at the idea of making my own soap and making some as gifts now.
There is one thing which I'm not keen on, you need lye to do something with the ingredients to make them come together and set, but lye is a dangerous ingredient to work with. This author does guide you through this but as a beginner I'm not sure I would exactly know what I'm doing. Be careful and read then re-read.

This is a great book if you're looking for instructions for the more complicated approaches to soap making. It's certainly not a "heat up what you have and add some other ingredients" kind of book. If you do want to do that, the list of "other ingredients" and their benefits in this book will be helpful to you.
