Detective Leira Berens prides herself on handling facts, not fantasy. Her job is chasing suspects, not ghosts. But when her mother’s wild tales of hidden worlds start surfacing, she’s forced to confront an unsettling truth...
Magic exists—and it’s coming for her.
A young prince from another realm has been murdered, and the prime suspect is hiding in Leira’s city. As she unravels an ancient conspiracy, she finds herself tangled between two worlds.
One is filled with gritty crime scenes; the other with shimmering portals and creatures from beyond.
A mysterious relic, pulsing with unearthly power, may be the key to it all. But its secrets are deadly, and time is running out.
Can Leira save her world before magic consumes it? Or will her disbelief cost her everything she holds dear?

Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Fantastic storylines, wonderful characters and action and adventures throughout. Wonderfully detailed and thoughtful characters are at the heart of the series fighting against the unfortunately always present selfish and selfcentered beings of any kind, all this with the addition of the wonder of magic. A perfect series for anyone who wants to read of adventures and more, entering a world of creation.
Usually when Michael Andersen co-authors something it’s at least grammatically well written, but this series is a fail. The number of poorly written sentences— run one, sentences without verbs, subject-verb agreement issues, etc.— makes it annoying to read at best.
I am willing to read imperfectly edited books. I understand that, unlike with professionally published novels, self-published authors don’t have access to the in-house professional copy editors publishing houses utilize. However, when there are there nonsensical aspects to the plot, or the author chooses to write about things she or he is obviously ignorant of, it becomes a more serious issue. It’s fine (and necessary) to make things up about a fantasy world, but when writing about the world in which we live, authors should do better.
A couple of cases in point (two of many): An Army general, however senior, has no authority over a psychiatric hospital administrator. The federal government does not own hospitals beyond those of the VA or actual military hospitals, and a psych hospital in Texas would be neither. For that matter, even if the hospital was federal, first, a general cannot fire a civil servant, and a hospital would fall under HHS and not the Department of Defense. The federal government is not a monolith with a single chain of command.
Similarly, while I don’t expect an author to have a lot of knowledge of police procedure, it should be obvious that an Austin police detective transferring to become a federal officer would not be able to take her unmarked city police car with her, nor would FBI agents be working under the Army general who earlier was threatening a hospital administrator.
I wanted to like this series. Sadly, the five inch troll was the only aspect that I really enjoyed.
To be fair, part of my dislike of this collection is because I'm an urban fantasy fan. UF is generally not bogged down with world building and has better pacing in my opinion. Yet, weighing in at 3436 pages according to my kindle, I'll give it three stars because it was only .99.
Still, it bored me as much as a couple minimum-wage jobs I've worked. Add in little to no editing skills or proofreading makes for a high level of annoyance. Sure, Yumf*ck was kinda cute, but he's no Clyde or Blanche. IYKYK.
Hopefully, there is improvement or I won't read all of the books I've accumulated dealing with Oriceran.
Had already read the first half of this set but had to get the full set! Still a cracking tale, although there was a bit of a jump in the flow circa book 8\9 but got back into the flow easy enough. Wonderful characters, amazing story and adventures galore...elf kings and queens, trolls, willens, fairies...family, friends, enemies, murder and mayhem. Now I need to find the next set...
Amazing characters from the lead, Leira, her parter in the Austin PD, her connection to Oriceran Corack, to the Gardner, and her bonded troll Tiberius Motherfucker Troll. Yes, he’s self named. The stories flow well and held my attention. Sometimes I don’t want to stop reading, but I wanted to get to the end of the book if that makes sense.
I finished a series of 100 novels and was left sad because I had no reading material. So I saw the Leica Chronicles and decided to try them, and I never looked back. Outstanding series that held my rather strange imagination and kept me thoroughly entertained. Highly recommended.
Love the book and the characters but the typos, wrong names Used and because of that sometimes confusion causing me to skip over parts. Should proofread and use spellcheck to edit or pay someone to do it for you. So many mistakes!!
I do not appreciate crudities nor obscenities. I have given Martha Carr book series * * * * * before. I haven't read any of Michael Anderle's books before. Now I don't know if I want to.
I absolutely love this series! The development of the characters, especially Leira, as the series progresses, is great. Yumf%@k is a real delight. He kept me laughing throughout. Turner Underwood and Tess are key characters throughout Leira and Correk's growing ability to use magic. I liked the constant narrative of good vs. bad, light magic vs. dark magic. I look forward to more Oriceran series.
