Spencer’s story
Finally the single dad’s story! Each book has been amazing with a story that pulls you in, a little 3rd act twist in each which is gut wrenching but such great twists! This story has age gap, close proximity, and of course best friend’s sister trope. And the spice whoa pretty darn good but doesn’t over power story. Can’t wait for next!

My least faves of Nikki Lawson’s, and not just bc it’s centered around parenting but, because I didn’t find either character had a distinct personality and felt the book got super repetitive. There was one part towards the end that made me physically cringe it was so unrealistic!!! I’ve never had a fictional book make me think about reality so much before 😮💨

Icebound Hearts follows single dad Sawyer, who’s looking for a nanny, and Violet, his teammate’s little sister who needs a job for a few months before she plans on moving to CA. Throw in a spicy list and a dozen *piercings* and hopefully I’ve convinced you to add this one to your TBR.
I loved Sawyer and Violet both individually and together. The relationship that blossomed between Sawyer’s son, Jake, and Violet was adorable. I loved that Violet’s brother was on board with his best friend and sister being together and there was no drama there. And epilogue two giving us a preview of what’s next… one of my favorite tropes! I can’t wait.

GAH this series! Nikki Lawson doesn't get nearly enough love for her Love and Hockey series. It is one of the most perfect hockey series out there, and every single book just gets better and better.
Icebound Hearts is absolutely outstanding. I LOVE a single dad/nanny romance, but throw in a side of teammate's sister, and what you have is absolute perfection. Sawyer is perfect as a single dad who is just trying to get by as a professional hockey player and father to a seven year old son, Jake. Violet is amazing as a woman trying to pick up the pieces after a pretty terrible work situation came crashing down, taking some time before starting a new life in California. The two of them together are fire.
I love every single thing about this book. The chemistry between Sawyer and Violet. Violet's relationship with Jake. The forced proximity tension of it all. The little glimpses of all the previous couples living their best happiest lives, the tiny peeks at what's to come. Absolutely everything about this series is 10/10 perfection and you need it in your life, immediately.

The story was good but the seven year old was written more like a four year old. It was extremely annoying that he was supposed to be seven yet he was carried around everywhere (who the heck carries a seven year old boy constantly🙄) and acted like a toddler. If she had made him a four year old and not had him be in school it would have been much better. I hate reading books with kids that are not written properly for the age they are supposed to be.

Best friends little sister turned nanny to a single dad oooohhhh lord the tropes went ham on this one, plus age gap! This ticks so many trope boxes it sometimes was too much but honestly the little boy was too cute to give it any less than 4 stars. Uhhh and their “goodbye” last words to each other had me gutted!!

It pained me to give this book 2 stars. I loved the first 3 books in this series. The characters in this felt really immature to me for their ages and for a book that took place over several months I feel like nothing happened 🥲

[3⭐️] just ok. I kinda skimmed a lot of this. My biggest issue was the little boy. He was portrayed like he was 4 but in the book he was 7. No 7 year old would act as much of a baby like the way this book described. Plot hole for sure.

Chef’s kiss. I can’t describe how I love this book. Sawyer is so good and Jake is the sweetest. How this story develops and consumed me was perfect. Violet is one lucky girl. 5⭐️ 3🌶️

Violet comes back to Denver to live near her brother until her new job starts in a few months. In the meantime, her brother gets her a job as a nanny for one of his teammates…that she also had a major crush on. They try and epically fail to resist their chemistry and agree to be exclusive until she leaves for her new job in a few months.
I was so excited for Sawyers story from the first time he was mentioned in the series. Seeing him as a father and watching his relationship with his son was truly heartwarming. It also made the feelings between Sawyer and Violet even stronger as they watched each other interact with Jake (his son).
It's definitely a spicy story but had the least number of spicy scenes out of all the books in the series so far. But the scenes that were there were DEFINITELY spicy.
I love how the characters from previous books are brought in throughout. We get to see what their lives are like after their story is "over", while having the main focus being on Violet and Sawyer's story.
Lawson's stories tend to have a heart wrenching twist near the end of the story, and this did not disappoint. You will feel all the feels before the HEA.

So this is book #4 in the love and hockey series. A spicy sports romance with single dad/ age gap/ forbidden romance since he's her brother's teammate/ she's his friend's lil sister and boss/employee tropes. Both of them have been burned and say they have sworn off love, and though they're obviously attracted to each other, they are determined not to cross any lines that would be inappropriate for so many reasons, especially since their arrangement for her to be his nanny for a few months is only temporary. Of course there wouldn't be any story if they didn't so yeah.
I liked both characters, their interactions with each other, and obvious interest in each other, and how they interacted as a family even before they became one. I did feel like the author should have made Jake a little younger with the way she portrayed him because my almost six year old niece does not act like that so it seemed like they either really babied him a lot or he was really immature at times , but he really was a sweet kid who just wanted love and his bond with Violet was so strong. I loved all of their interactions together too and that Sawyer was honest enough to tell Violet he loved her before she left but didn't want her to give up her dream job just for him so he didn't ask her to stay (even though she wanted him to and he wanted to) and then just magically showed up just when she was really missing him because he missed her so much too.
This book didn't feel as long and drawn out probably because I liked their story, and although their spicy scenes were a lil redundant, I still read it pretty quickly. Only gripe once again is too many similarities - enormous guy but at least his piercings made him a lil different, also just as into 'eating candy', another never done back there but anything for you dude. At least this one didn't have any stupid issues that stood in the way of the HEA because you knew they would find a way to end up together and thankfully violet's brother and the rest of the team took their relationship well. Overall, this book was pretty good and i know there's at least one more in this series.

The single dad trope is not one I normally read. In fact, I often times avoid it. Forbidden relationship and brother’s best friend, however, are two of my favorites. Plus, I’ve been loving this series and wanted to learn about Sawyer’s backstory, so I read it. Man, am I glad I did! It jumped ahead of the others and claimed the top spot in the series for me thus far.
How could I not fall in love with Sawyer? He’s sweet, scorching hot, and so darn yummy it should be illegal. The way he fought against his feelings and tried to resist Violet added a ton of anticipation and smexual tension… and frustration (in a good way) for the reader because there’s no way you can’t want these two to get together.
Violet is a strong character in her own right and just the breath of fresh air Sawyer needed in his life. I loved how they complimented each other without even trying and helped patch up the pieces people in their pasts had broken. And the extent to which Sawyer went to support Violet was the stuff good romance is made of. Oh, and let’s not forget the heat that burned well past inferno. Who knew our single dad could be so I-need-a-cold-shower-now! in the bedroom?
Add in much loved characters from prior books and Sawyer’s young son (who thankfully wasn’t your stereotypical problem child, the likes of which unfortunately show up way too often in movies) and you end up with the perfect ingredients for a delicious, hot, swoon-worthy, sigh-inspiring romance. Don’t miss this one because this single dad scores the goal!

This is by far my favourite in the series. Nikki is one of the best hockey smut romance authors out there and she really stepped it up a level with this one 🥵
When Sawyer is having problems finding a reliable babysitter for his son Jake, his teammate, Reese, recommends his own sister, Violet, who is in Denver for a couple of months.
It's the perfect solution, or it would be if Sawyer hadn't just walked in on Violet completely naked. After an awkward encounter and laughing it off, Sawyer offers Violet a nannying position which she gladly accepts.
However, the more time Sawyer and Violet spend in each other's company, the more difficult it becomes to resist their insane attraction towards each other.
I loved everything about this book. The chemistry between Sawyer and Violet was so hot, like grab your B.O.B hot.
And the bond between Jake and Violet was so wholesome. Jake was such an adorable 7 year old and the three of them made a cute little family.
I seriously loved this one so much and highly recommend this entire series to anyone who loves hockey romances.

My first read of 2025, and I can safely say I started the year off right! After seeing glimpses of single dad Sawyer throughout the series I am so glad we have finally gotten his love story! Everything about this book hit me right in feels, and I fell so deeply for these characters.
Sawyer is a single dad to a little boy while also playing in the NHL. After a messy divorce he has sworn off love and is focused on being the best dad he can be. To help him out, one of his teammates suggests his sister nanny for him for a few months before she starts a new job. Enter Violet!
Violet is in a major transitional period of her life. Leaving Chicago to show up at her brother’s in Denver for 3 months until her new job starts in LA, the last thing she is looking for is love. She takes on the nanny job for her brother’s best friend as a way to occupy the 3 months and very quickly bonds with the little boy. Starting a beautiful friendship with Sawyer brings them closer and closer until the sexual tension finally explodes.

I love that Violet is Reese’s sister and he basically HAND DELIVERED her to Sawyer. She’s available to be your nanny….as if he couldn’t look at his best friend/team mate and gorgeous sister and think - this is bound to happen. Sweet, puppy dog Reese.
And little Jake. That boy stole my heart. I love how he loved Violet probably more than his dad and how she cared for him equally in return. He was the real star of this book.
And let’s hear it for no 3rd act break up. Was there a separation? Yup. Was it super drama filled? Eh….kinda. But it was planned from the get go. It wasn’t a shock. It was well done and realistic for the plot line.
I was CONVINCED this was the last book of the series. I was so angry I wouldn’t be getting a Grant the Goalie story (with Margo’s sister Heather!). I FREAKED OUT when I saw we get not 1, but 2️⃣ more books!
Can’t freaking wait!

I loved Sawyer and Violet's story. Sawyer was a favorite of mine when he was first introduced. With his past being a mystery and having a child, I wanted him to find his happily ever after.
Violet is Reese's little sister and moves back to Denver after she was let go from her job. She had a few months before her new job started in California. Little did she know that she would fall in love with Sawyer and his son Jake. She didn't believe in love but it found her.
Sawyer got burned in his last marriage. His ex just want the prestige and money that came with being married to a hockey player. She didn't want to be a mother either. Sawyer needed a trusted nanny and Violet is the perfect match. Not only is she perfect for her son but for him also.
Loved, loved, loved. Nikki writes books you just fall into and want to be a part of the world she creates. I always can find a connection with one of her characters. Can't wait for the next one!!

With every book in this series we get such a fantastic story about the couple, but we also get to even more of this entire world that she has built. The single dad/nanny trope and the brother’s best friend trope are both two of my favorites so I absolutely loved getting both of these in one.
Violet is such a strong character, including her breakdown when she is confronted by her past, because honestly that was such a real reaction. She is exactly what Sawyer and Jake didn’t realize they were missing. Sawyer brings so much to table Violet as well. He supports her in every way even before their relationship progresses. The back and forth between them was so funny & just easy. Like they just made so much sense together that I was surprised Violet’s brother didn’t realize something was going on sooner.
I loved getting to see all of the couples from the previous books make appearances, as well as maybe some hints of what is hopefully still to come for this series!

She does it again!
I am an Aces fan for life! Nikki Lawson has created a team of most talented and devoted and steamy men. Sawyer does not disappoint. He is all things kind, loyal, protective, thoughtful, encouraging, and hot. He loves his son and puts him first in all things after a nasty divorce. After years, Violet (Reece’s sister,) comes barreling in to help nanny. He’s determined to keep up the status quo, but he falls hard for Violet and her energetic and giving personality. They try to keep it as “friends with benefits,” but that works out as well as we all expect. 😉
While we knew what was coming, the journey was a beautiful and steamy experience. Nikki Lawson’s heroes ooze positive masculinity and sexiness. I’ve loved them all. They’re not brutes or harsh, but rather they are kind and giving. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

This single dad v nanny, age gap, teammates little sister, hockey romance is hot, steamy and oh so good. I think it might be my favourite of the series. I think the author, @nikkilawson.writes is incredibly underrated as I find her hockey romances to be a great balance between hot steamy romance and actual hockey play.
Sawyer is having problems finding a reliable babysitter for his son Jake, when Reese, one of his teammates recommends his sister, Violet for the position.
The more time Sawyer and Violet spend together, the more they can’t resist their attraction to one other.
I adored Violet’s relationship with Jack so is the sweetest boy, and the love he and Sawyer have is so dang sweet.
I love this series and am looking forward to reading more from this cast of characters.

This series just does something for my soul. I have loved each book more than the last and this one is no exception.
Sawyer and Violet are just perfection. And Violet's relationship with Jake is just beyond adorable. I was dreading her leaving and the effect it would have on Jake and boy did that break my heart. When he got hurt and cried out for Violet, it was like a punch to the gut. From the time Violet left pretty much until the end of the book I was either in tears or full on crying. When Reese told Sawyer not to let her go and he shows up at her door in LA I lost it, and then when he went to her job and asked her boss to take her back...SWOON.
I stayed up til 3am to finish this and I already want to restart it. I didn't think I'd be able to pick a favorite from the series, but I think this one might be it.

I read this book in the beta phase at the end of 2024 so technically not my first read of 2025 but it should be for a lot of people! Had all my favorite tropes in one go. I think my favorite part by far is the fact that the MMC didn’t let the FMC completely change her life plans for him. She had career goals, she knew what she wanted to do with her life, she had moves to make but was ready to give it all up to be with him and his son. Too often, in real life and in fiction, is the girl expected to leave her life behind for the boy but this was a great example of if he wanted to, he would put you first.
