When Ally was nine, she witnessed the brutal murders of her mother and sister. Dismissed as delusional, she has spent the last eight years honing her body into a weapon, mastering martial arts, and relentlessly tracking down the assassin no one believes exists.
With the help of a boy she meets at a troubled youth center, they begin piecing together what happened that night. But their efforts to expose the truth go horribly wrong, uncovering a corporate conspiracy that stretches far beyond her family’s murder.
Now, Ally must become more than an agent of revenge. She must become the city’s reluctant protector, sacrificing everything to protect the people she’s come to care for, and finish what her mother started—unless the assassin finds her first.
I couldn’t put it down! I got sucked in from the first page! The writing is well constructed and descriptions are detailed so much so that I had a clear vision of the characters immediately. I wanted to know more about the girl and what happens next. Well worth the read. I think this level genre fills in a gap that is often apparent between teens and young adults. Lots of action if that’s what you like. A plus that the lead character is a young woman too!!
Truly enjoyed this book! It was like being plunged into Arrow and Gotham but with a strong female lead character. I felt the disability was very well-written and well-represented, but I don't use a wheelchair so I can't be the final judge of that. My only gripe is that the physical paperback formatting was a little off—at least, in the version I requested from my library—and there were a few grammar & spelling errors. To be fair, the latter doesn't really bother me; it's always refreshing to notice little errors, as it's proof of humanness. I CANNOT WAIT for the next book to come out!
Ally watches her mother and sister murdered by a man looking for information and Ally has to grow up feeling alone and having doctors tell her she’s delusional. She’s determined to find her family’s killer but she will have to fight against her own doubts and the doubts of others.
Dirty cops, assassins, mobsters, big corporations, and vigilantes all clash in this movie worthy Sci-Fi thriller that’s filled with double crossings, weaponized satellites causing intentional earthquakes, corruption, and unexpected deaths.
I can’t say enough good things about this book, at the beginning I was almost convinced that Ally was the delusional person the authorities tried so hard to convince her she was. Page after page had reveals and twists that I did not see coming, deaths that had me gasping and a reveal at the end that had me sitting up wondering how it could be possible!
If corrupt corporations, underdog vigilante groups, major fight scenes, and SCI-Fi elements are your thing this is the book for you!
This book grabbed me from the first page and I could not put it down. Hard to believe this is a first novel. The characters are well developed and the writing is flawless. His writing style is such that you can visualize the scenes as if you were there, it just pulls you into the story. The central character is a strong young woman in her late teens, I love that! It is fast paced and set in a world easily recognized today. This would make a fabulous tv/streaming series. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Be ready to lose some sleep because you won’t want to stop reading. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.
The story dives into the shadowy world of corruption, danger, and high-stakes revenge. The vigilante at its core isn't just another action hero; they’re layered, haunted, and driven by an uncompromising moral code that makes every decision razor-sharp with tension. The action scenes are cinematic and visceral, leaving you breathless, while the plot twists hit like a gut punch.
This book doesn't just hold its own against Lee Child's Reacher novels—it surpasses them. The writing is sharper, the stakes feel more personal, and the characters more deeply compelling. If you've been searching for your next adrenaline-fueled read, this thriller is it. Better than Reacher? Absolutely.
Loved this book! Drew me in from the start with an interesting story and fantastic description. I quickly became invested in the main character and how her history was not what it seemed. I look forward to reading more books from Colin Ross.
This was more than just a revenge story, it was about healing, justice, and finding purpose beyond pain. The world-building around the corporate conspiracy was chillingly real, and I appreciated how the author tackled trauma without sugarcoating it.
