Gregory loves his family dearly, but with every loss he suffers, and every mission he takes, he’s reminded how very different he is from them. While his siblings struggle with homework and house chores, Gregory struggles with the choices he makes every day.

Not yet a legal adult, Gregory has seen and done things he can never tell his family, and a part of him feels like the Gregory that does those things is different from the Gregory that his family knows, and those that know both parts of him don’t stick around for long.

With things tough at home, Gregory finds himself glad to take whatever assignment Uncle Sam might have for him.

His latest mission requires infiltrating Camp Peary, where he slowly makes contacts inside the CIA, and learns that he’s not the only one who has to live a double life away from their families.

Maybe the agent that pulls the trigger isn’t all that different from the brother that cheats at Monopoly.

P.D. Atkerson is a homeschooled writer, living in Montana, who may or may not be a secret agent. She spends almost as much time in the worlds she creates as she does the real one.
When she’s not reporting the stories of her agents, she’s learning different languages, or traveling to different worlds through the portals of books.
She has a black belt in sarcasm and a master’s degree in useless facts.

5 stars. It's become a pattern that I love every odd book in this series (#1, 3, & 5) while not enjoying the even ones as much... hm. Anyways, I loved this one because

a. it was pretty funny (I don’t know, I just love Gregory's ironic humour, especially when he's playing a weakly idiot);
b. Gregory was kinda sweet (I'm always a sucker for scenes with kids, and then his protective streak for Scarlett was adorable);
and c. we got to see Gregory mess up, finally. XD

Of course the plot was gripping and I love the twists at the end as things were slowly revealed... also it's the only time I've ever liked Uncle Sam even a wee teeny bit, I think??

Ack, this was such a fun book!

I really loved seeing how much Gregory has grown, and watching him actually let people talk to him. (Lang counseling was lovely.) His family scenes were so sweet, and again, so needed after Guilt.

The plot was fun and fast-paced, with quite a few plot twists that really came out of nowhere.

Uncle Sam was completely infuriating, but I'll forgive how many times he showed up in this book because of THE RUBBER BALL SCENE---

Also, I called it. Completely called it. Iykyk.

CW: Fighting---both guns and hand-to-hand---and on-screen death. MC is slightly interested in a girl. Some bad memories of how the MC grew up as the heir of Deadlock.

Actions have consequences . . . even if you don't see the link.

Gregory's down for the count with a sprained ankle (funny thing happened on my trip to Moscow . . .) when he's called back in on an assignment—go undercover as a nerd to find out who's recruiting people out of CIA training for the bad guys. Only problem is, he's still dealing with you-know-who's death, and this case just keeps getting more and more complicated.

With red herrings around every turn and U.S. as the only person he can really trust, Gregory must force himself to watch his back, trust his instincts, and keep his head in the game.

There's more to this case than meets the eye. But he can he figure it out before it's too late?
