When Luna decided to reclaim her werewolf heritage, she had no idea what she was in for.
Frustrated, angry, and betrayed, she must find the mysterious artifact she lost, unravel the politics of the pack, and defend against attempts on her life.
With everything intertwined, she has a daunting road ahead, and her conflicting feelings about the lone werewolf, Duncan, aren’t helping anything. She doubts she can trust him, no matter how charming he is, but she may need to if she wants to get to the bottom of her troubles—and survive the week.
Another excellent book in the series. The story moves along at a slow pace but is perfect for the story.
Luna has been burned in love already. Can she afford to let Duncan back into her life? However, she will need a powerful ally (possible remorseful) to help her investigate. Then, when both her pack and apartment complex are attacked, she will need someone willing to fight at her side.
There are revelations on Duncan's side. His past and history of werewolves in general might be linked. As always, I enjoyed this book and can not wait for the next one.
There really isn’t anything to recommend this story. In fact, there are quite a few TSTL and annoying things. But, I enjoy this author’s humor and sometimes the silliness of it all so I keep reading in spite of myself.
This book was pretty good until about the 3/4 point. After that point it was swimming against the current for me to keep reading this thing. Or pulling teeth. But I had already committed. Because of when in the book I started really having problems, when I discuss the issues, they will be spoilery. It was like the author rushed the book out because it didn't seem like they thought things through. Or they wanted the characters to seem utterly incompetent-- which I doubt was the intention.
After some problematic encounters and developments with a new group of antagonists, our main character decided to "plan" something for them. But the plan was a series of hopelessly bad decisions that she should be smarter than. The enemy has definitely been a larger group of magically enhanced men. Yet, somehow she thinks making a fake magical item for them to steal from her, that looks like an actual toy, and her having either NO backup or just the same one wolf with her that she had to bail out from being overwhelmed by her 4 cousins earlier in the same book was going to be enough. She didn't have a plan other than to be too dense to realize she would be leading them to her place of business and all her helpless tenants because she didn't think the plan through. At all. I want to be clear, she considered enacting this "plan" on her own. The plan leads to disaster. Surprise!
Going back a bit to complain about something stupid and not at all thought out, I have issues starting with the first encounter Luna and Duncan have with the group of magically enhanced men. Duncan indicates that ONE of them smell of lavender. Then lavender becomes a THING. It's basically the base of operations for all of the bad guys. That guy supposedly smells like lavender from sheer proximity. So should they all, in that case.
A Tesla car plays a significant role in a series of events, and I cannot actually say if it was in the form of an ad for the things it can do or a horror story. Both maybe? Just mentioning it because it was weird. And important to connecting scenes.
Luna and Duncan "break in" to the villain's base when they are clearly expected. Taking down armed enemies with no weapons. Because they didn't think it through to come to the bad guy lair when they decided to. And after subduing those guys and taking a weapon off them, Duncan doesn't keep the weapon as they move further into the evil lair. For... Reasons?
Turns out he knew something of who and what they were coming to meet, and kept it to himself until he almost murders Luna because of it. But that gets glossed over like THAT wouldn't be a betrayal. Sure, he apologized for almost killing her, but shouldn't he have apologized to her about what he knew and didn't share or prepare her for? At what point did he know? It isn't clear from what was written when he knew or suspected. And I think that's a failing too by the author that we don't even know what tipped him off. Or when.
ALSO THERE IS NO REASON THE BAD GUY MINIONS NEEDED TO INTERACT WITH THE ALCHEMIST AT ALL ONCE WE LEARN MORE ABOUT WHO THEY SERVE. Seriously, the more I think about this book, the more irritated I get.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second entry in the Magnetic Magic series. I really like Luna and Duncan. His backstory is surprising. There is plenty of fighting action as Luna and Duncan search for stolen relics. The mystery element makes things interesting.
I enjoy her writing. I've read well over fifty of her books. Somewhere closer to 100, I believe. This is the story of a middle aged woman who lived the last twenty years denying her heritage. She is a werewolf and she's taken potions to tame the wolf inside her. But her cousin interfered with her potion source and now she has her full heritage. Her alpha mother , leader of their pack,is dying and wishes her to return and take over leadership. Many in the pack don't want her as she had abandoned them for twenty years.
Hmmm... off-putting the way FL seems to be developing something for the ML, but in the approaching end is like—oh well, he is theirs now. Can I claim an emotional see-saw? But it is not even emotional for me as a reader since I have detached and I am no longer feeling invested in the story. So, it is just a see-saw. Also, the first two should have really been one book.
Exiting now.
P.S. I do like Buroker's DEATH BEFORE DRAGON series. Read that one instead, if you are looking for a recommendation.
In Relics of the Wolf, Lindsay Buroker leans into the "slow and steady" approach, delivering an excellent continuation that prioritizes character depth and lore over frantic action. This entry focuses heavily on the consequences of the past and the necessity of uneasy alliances.
Amazing and Exciting!! Luna's pack is against her and a sinister villain is sending beefed-up lavender-scented thugs to capture her and steal magical wolfen artifacts. Can she trust Duncan? Theres a whiff of More-than-wolf about him. Their snarky flirting ~ using delicious meat and dark chocolate is just delicious!! Luna's mom is ill, her cousins are trying to kill her and she only has Duncan and her Druid intern, Bolin, on her side. I love love love this book. Five stars!
Is there anything more embarrassing than reading middle-aged paranormal beings flirting with the proficiency of homeschooled teenagers?
I only continued with this series because I was curious about Duncan's mysterious background, and wondered if it would explain why he came across as a freshly released, Reddit-reared basement dweller.
Alas, I got an answer and it failed to endear him to me.
The shifter elements are exciting, Luna is fabulous, the Pack itself is full of complicated characters and hidden inter-pack political elements that add suspense and depth to the scenario.
Rating: 4⭐️
Mystery, magic, and more hidden secrets. That’s what Relics of the Wolf is focused upon.
Luna has, with all the betrayals, attacks, and bad news about her mother arriving together, decided to go full force with her wolf. It being the best way to ensure her safety and others survival.
The complex dynamics within Luna’s mother’s pack is one that is more feral, and less humanized than many other stories I’ve read. I appreciate this aspect even more because the Alpha is female, ruthless in running the pack as she works towards its future.
The story lines that Buroker is building, ones that include Luna and her pack, are among the strongest in the series. From the pack dynamics to the werewolves and their own history, the author is developing this element with each character and book. She’s revealing more about their mythology, genetics, and connections to other paranormal beings.
Luna is still a strong character, evolving her story and her wolf into a powerful role and magical being. I can’t wait to see more.
Duncan just continues to be an issue. He’s not a consistently well defined character, and I need that to be invested in him. For his part in Luna’s journey and me as a reader. The author does supply him with a newly revealed history but oddly, it didn’t make him any more believable here. It’s not a well constructed element. I’m just not connecting with him. Or this part of the story. It’s all too apparent.
Bolin remains outstanding. More of Bolin. Maybe let us in on his parents, too.
The shifter elements are exciting, Luna is fabulous, the Pack itself is full of complicated characters and hidden inter-pack political elements that add suspense and depth to the scenario.
Moving swiftly to the next book to see how the story develops.
Another winner for lovers of paranormal werewolf fiction and urban fantasy thrillers.

Magnetic Magic : Way of the Wolf #1 Relics of the Wolf #2 Kin of the Wolf #3 Quest of the Wolf #4 Curse of the Wolf-July 11,2025
Minor Spoilers Lindsay Buroker is an auto-buy for me. This book is the second of a series called Magnetic Magic. I do not recommend it as a standalone. Luna is a werewolf and she is determined to get two relics back from the people who stole them. To do so, she needs to reach out to Duncan, another werewolf, who she does not completely trust. During this story, Luna finds out more about Duncan’s history. Someone from his past shows up unexpectedly and complicates the situation. Duncan is a treasure hunter and a finder of lost objects, something that is key to the storyline. There is a surprising additional character added to the story. Luna is a property manager at an apartment building, and the owners send over their son to be an intern and to learn the business. Bolin is a bit of a nerd and has magical abilities, but he becomes loyal and helpful to her. Luna’s pack, who had ignored her for years, have been reinserting themselves into her life. Three of her cousins are bullies and try to create trouble whenever possible. Luna believes they want to kill her. Luna’s mother has cancer and wants Luna to come back to the pack and the way of the wolf. Luna’s mother believes that Luna is needed for the future survival of the pack. With all of these things going on, Luna is cautious but has to make several decisions. A few things are revealed and settled, but the series is meant to be read in its entirety for the full storyline. The author writes characters that are realistic. They have flaws and a good side whether they are the hero or the villain with a few exceptions. I enjoy the vocabulary used by the author. She uses interesting words in her writing. Bolin is a spelling bee champ and enjoys talking about word origins. There is one mistake that I was surprised the author made because she likes words. Luna has two sons and the author refers to one as the youngest and the other as the oldest. Younger and older would have been correct. I also enjoy the richness of her stories. The dialogue is often humorous. I plan to continue to read the series.
Quick synopsis: Apartment complex handywoman-slash-werewolf Luna and mysterious-background-slash-werewolf Duncan are all lusty over each other. They're also getting jumped by bad men high on potions. There are evil scientists in the mix too.
Brief opinion: A big "Ehhhhhhh". I was okay with the beginning of the book, but it quickly went downhill, and by the last 25% I was ready to DNF it but pushed through to the end. I should have DNFed it.
Plot: Luna is just getting back with her family/pack, when massively muscled men (high on potions that make them stronger and bigger) attack her pack, shooting the place up with magical silver bullets (because plain silver bullets aren't enough of a threat to a bunch of werewolves?). Luna and Duncan basically spend the whole book investigating them (in the most stupid ways) and then fighting them.
In the last few chapters, between all of the fighting, we learn that werewolves were brought to this world by ... Also the two-legged werewolf form, which all werewolves thought was long gone, was able to be achieved by Duncan. Also Duncan was ...
Editing: Perfect, no complaints at all.
What I Liked/What I Didn’t Like: The only thing I liked was Luna (though I still HATE HATE HATE that as a name for a werewolf). I had liked Duncan in the first book, but his whole background and the lore introduced through him about werewolves just 100% did not work for me. Sadly little about this book worked for me.
Rating: 1-Hated / 2-Disliked / 3-Okay / 4-Liked / 5-Loved: ⭐️⭐️ - Disliked. I'm not going to continue with the series, but I'm open to trying other books by this author.
Spoilers I enjoyed this book significantly more than the first. The characters seem better written, the romance is more intriguing, the story was more interesting, and the writing flowed better. The issues I did have were some of the planning/ logic behind Luna's ideas. She put her actual phone number into a site where she suspects the men who shot up her family may be? What? And when she answers the phone she lists the name of the company she works and lives at? WHAT? They waltzed into this guy's factory and beat everyone with no planning and limited gear. This 8 year old that they found, why isn't the Dr keeping a stricter leash on him if his last experiment (Duncan) went so wrong? Duncan knew they were walking into a trap the entire time and didn't warn Luna, and then there's the epilogue. The epilogue wasn't as important as it should have been. There should have been a conversation about how she planned on going back to rescue him or some other reason he was dumped. I'm sure it'll be explained in the next book but it felt to blasé for the climax of the book. He was kidnapped and mind controlled to kill her and then dumped in a puddle. Going back to jokes and light hearted conversation didn't fit the scene well. That being said I'll most likely read the third book but won't continue from there. This series doesn't need more than 3 books and that's being generous.
Lyndsay Buroker is back, with Relics of the Wolf, the second book in her Magnetic Magic series, and it’s a load of fun. The short version review of this series is easy: if you’ve ever read any of Buroker’s other modern fantasy series then you’re guaranteed to love this series. While totally unrelated to those other books, this series has the same action, adventure, slow burn romance (still in early stages here in book 2) and, frankly, snark, that are the author’s signature. If you’ve missed out on those prior books then, please trust me, what I just described is a superb thing.
More specifically, in this series we continue to get some great additional character development for both the female lead, Luna, and her main supporting character Duncan, in addition to a pretty rousing adventure, introduction of some bad-a** bad guys and a really effective mastermind nemesis and … well, that’s actually all I’m going to say as I don’t really want to give too much away. Bottom line though is a wonderfully written and totally addictive story that’s loads of fun, works perfectly in advancing an already strong story arc, and does a great job in further developing both lead and supporting characters. Truly fantastic stuff that’s easy to highly recommend.
This is a nice continuation from the first and didn't feel quite as short. It's still not long, but any means, but doesn't feel like it's over as soon as it started. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next on the series.
I like both the main character and her love interest. Especially like the fact that she's a mature woman and not a teenager. We get some more of Duncan's backstory and it really adds to him.
I feel like we missed a bit with what happened to him at the end, but maybe it's something that will get revealed down the road. It was left open for the next story, but didn't end on a cliffhanger.
There's some scenes that could have been gory, but she didn't go into details on that part so overall it's not very graphic, but does have violence. There's a non-PG scene, but it doesn't progress past second base (if I'm remembering my bases correctly!). Looking forward to when it does though. The progression doesn't feel forced and the chemistry between them feels natural.
Really liking the series so far and will definitely continue reading them!
Luna is regaining all her werewolf legacy and growing closer to the curious Duncan. She still doesn’t completely trust him due to his connection with her ex. When Bolin is attacked and the magical artifact stolen, the mystery expands. Bolin and his father have confirmed there is Druid magic on the artifact but it also has an inscription about the werewolves. Strange, powerful men, augmented by magical potions have attacked her pack and injured her mother with silver bullets. At the same time, the magical pendant of the pack has been stolen. There is a fair amount of action, some mystery, more magical items, Bolin is learning more about being a Druid, suspense and surprises, especially to do with Duncan’s past. The slow romance is also building. This is an easy, quick read. As per all of her books the characters are interesting and have great interactions. Each book has a bit more background and a bit more magic. This one also has a mix of technology and magic. Fun read.
Lindsay Buroker you’re such a fine and surprising writer. I had read another for serious called death before dragons. that series was so good that when I got finished reading I started it again and read it again nine books. That’s just how good she is.
And now she’s doing it to me again with the Wolf magnetic magic books. It started out slow and easy. And now it’s picking up speed and has got me fully in its clutches and I’m so grateful.
Start with this series then go read death before dragons or start with that series and then go read this one. You can only win with this great writer.
Thank you, Lindsay for all the pleasure and all the relaxing time and exciting time and intense time reading your books.
Wolf artifacts being collected by someone means Luna and her mothers’ pack are in danger. Is she in danger from Duncan, he did collude with Chad? Just when she started to warm to him, he betray her trust but she may need his magical assistance and hopes she can trust him. Despite her mother and a few cousins wanting her to be present as part of the pack, she is still on the outside and protecting the people in the complex is her main job until she gets back what was taken from her. Duncan is definitely feeling her 45 year old self and Luna finds his gray streaked hair appealing. He knows her secrets, will he share his?
This one just seemed disjointed and problematic to me. There were a couple of issues that popped up and seemed like something to follow up on that were just left alone and not mentioned again. There were situations that just seemed stupid that led to desperately dangerous/deadly endings. A 3-D printed relic was supposed to fool anyone? Then there is the super strange and almost second thought situation with the pack and the main character's mom. Good to hear more about Duncan's past but the final fight situation did not endear me to him or make me trust him anymore.
Every single series, every one...is a wonderful, fantastical ride!. Lindsay, you are my Layes...I can not EVER read just one.. I wait until the series is complete or close to completed, and there are at least 3 audiobooks...and then I devour them!! If you are looking for a wonderful character and world-building author...great story lines... complex characters, outstanding books...no other words..great writing. But plan..you can't just read one! 😄 Why aren't these GREAT stories on NETFLIX?, HBO? STARZ? They are just brilliant!!
This second book in the series is every bit as good as the first. I love the interactions between Duncan and Luna and the unfolding mystery surrounding the artifacts. The slow-ish burn budding romance is also fun to watch. I am doing this series through audiobook and really enjoy the narrator.
The difference in the tone of the reading when Luna shifts between wolf and human is very well done... And I think that speaks well not just of the narrator from audiobook, but also from the author herself.
This book was really good I couldn't put it down I read it from start to finish love all the characters really really like the male wolf He's pretty fantastic in it like The owner of the complex there son I like him he's gonna be pretty good in this series I think But I'm loving it I'm hoping for the next book really fast because it's that good I'm hoping if you need a book to read it's fast easy going lots of fun to read pick it up it up you enjoy it
After living as a normal human, Luna's life takes a new direction.
Luna's life has changed dramatically. She faces many new challenges since Duncan showed up in her parking lot. Even though Luna left her family out of guilt and fear, she goes to visit her mother and to reconnect with her werewolf family. She's in a difficult situation of deciding whether or not to trust Duncan, who tricked her but seemed to regret his actions and joins her to help in finding out information about the wolf artifacts being stolen and who is behind the threats to her family. The next book will be first on my reading list when it comes out.
I love Lindsay and her quirky, snarky characters! Their banter always makes me laugh and yet is intrinsic to the story. The plot from book 2 continues, as well as the action and adventure. I sorta feel a lull in the action but an intensifying pressure building, ready to unleash hell on our protagonists!
Can’t wait to see where this goes! Great job as always, Lindsay!
I really like Luna, but I haven’t decided whether I like Duncan or not. He’s kind of an odd werewolf. I do think it’s kind of funny that Duncan wants to get back into Luna‘s good graces so he gives her a lot of stuff and tries to help her find her lost artifacts. in this book, Luna learns more about Duncan‘s past and why she thinks she can’t trust him. I will definitely read the next book in this series.
Thoroughly enjoyed the developments in the storyline and plot. Tantalizing attraction to a gorgeous, giant stranger with an accent, yes please! Problematic family members and a druid intern at Sylvan Sanctuary made even more fascinating by smoky dark chocolate with bacon, or espresso or other unusual additives. Get the whole series if you're considering dipping a toe.
I’m a huge fan of Death Before Dragons and Legacy of Magic, but this one is kinda petering out for me. I was a little generous in my rating of book one, because I saw a lot of potential, but I’m just not engaging with the characters like I normally do with a Buroker book. I just don’t care that much, even less after reading book two. I’m going to give it one more book to decide if I want to read on or not.
I am enjoying having main characters who have been around the block. They may be scarred, but they have a maturity that comes with experience. Luna being offended by a young relative calling her a Boomer cracked me up! I’m glad that we haven’t seen the last of Duncan and we learn some more of his backstory. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
