Alexander Ranch #3

Deep in the Night

Rate this book
Lela and the Alexanders are back on another case. The bodies are coming in fast and things between Lela and Jordan are heating up. The team will have to race against the clock to stop the murders and crack the case.

Exerpt: Once we were all in position, I visually scanned the house at the end of the street. I had to use night vision goggles to get a good feel for the place while everyone else could use their regular eyes. Once I had the lay of the land, I probed around the back of the house where I couldn’t see. There was one lowly guard out there. The guard began to make his way back to the front of the house, leaving the back completely unguarded. That's when I sent the signal for all teams to move in.

After reading book 1 and 2 of the Alexander Ranch the story just gets more and more interesting. Here we find dead dogs and humans but there is no reasoning behind the deaths. The hunt is on to who or what is killing them. This book takes us more into the relationship of Lela and Jordan has things heats up and gets very hot. Passion sure does fill the night for these two couples. There is the other man Shane where Lela has to work close with, Jordan isn’t to happy about this and things take a swirl twist and come to ahead for them.

There's a nice balance between mystery and the building relationship between Lela and Jordan as she struggles to decide just how deep she wants their relationship to go. This is a well written paranormal mystery with a dose of romance and passion.

The author gives a well told story that is easy to follow as she takes us through the mystery of the supernaturals. I have really enjoy this series and look forward to the next book in this series.

The Alexander Ranch series just keeps getting better with each book and this, the third book in the series is my favorite… so far! Lela and the Alexanders are on the hunt for a serial killer, maybe two! It’s definitely a great mystery story with a lot of suspense added and it’s not just the thrill of tracking down the killer, but also watching, with fascination the burgeoning romance developing between Lela and Jordan.

I must admit, I’ve had to warm up to the cautious and standoffish way Lela is in her relationship with Jordan. They definitely have chemistry, but the thing about Lela is, she refuses to be ruled by emotion or physical compatibility. Poor Jordan, will he ever learn that Lela is like a porcupine and when you get her riled up you’re gonna be gingerly removing those quills, that are inevitably coming your way! Let’s just say that both Lela and Jordan have some serious issues to work on, I’m rooting for them.

JC Brazil is the narrator of this audiobook and I’m always a little hesitant when I see that the author changes narrators in the middle of a series. My worry was unfounded, JC Brazil did a fantastic job, her pacing was perfect and the time just flew by listening to this audiobook, that is just under six hours in length. I will definitely be on the lookout for more from this narrator. The audio production quality was clear and free of errors.

I look forward to the release of the fourth book in the series.

This audiobook was gifted to me exchange for an unbiased review!

This is the first book by Marla that I have read and overall I really enjoyed it. I wasn't left wondering about the characters or their relationships with each other as a brief over was given within the story so I understood the dynamics and the terms of Drainers and Healers. They are an extraordinary sub species of humans that need to feed from the life force of other living creatures. Policing their own renegades that murder or hurt their prey Alexander Ranch is a hub for healers and drainers. Lela is just "a normal" bit has become a valuable addition to the investigating team as she has the ability to read minds. Becoming involved in this secret world as she was marked for death by a Drainer in the previous two novels and is now on/off dating Jordan.

There relationship is new and uncertain, Lela is drowning in her keep for him and feels he would devour her whole as she cannot resist his charms. Jordan is very intense and seems to need to dominate her in am effort to protect her and keep her safe from harm. The case they work on puts Lela in danger and it highlights all of Lela's growing worries. Can they catch the killer of dogs, woman and men? Using their skill set and working together can Alexander Ranch solve the puzzle?

An intense who dunnit read with lots of mystery and suspense this is a short read that is intriguing and steamy too!

A four star read.

This book of the series is my favorite so far. I think Marla Josephs is able to take her characters, and make them completely believable, and at this point, I feel like they are part of my world as I listen to the story. They become your friends. I really found the integration of previous characters in this story to be fascinating. We have bodies turning up, both human and dogs! And the Alexanders are hot on the trail, but they need the help of Lela and her psychic ability. The twists and turns of this plot leave you wanting more as it goes on. Just when you think you may have the answer, a surprise happens and it's nothing what you expected.

I really liked the progression of Jordan and Lela too..talk about hot...though at times I am struggling with why Lela is so hesitant. I am sure there is a really good reason, but I personally love him, so I just want to give her a good shake. Looking forward to the next episode.

JC Brazil picked up the narration of book three seamlessly. Her flow and performance of the characters kept the story going with a warm tone, easily distinguishable characters and emotion.

After having read the first two instalments of “An Alexander Ranch Matter” I must say that Deep in the Night has been my favourite.

Once again, we have new cases for the Alexanders to solve, with the help of Lela’s special talent.

Her relationship with Jordan also heats up, with some steamy sex scenes. The tension accelerates between Jordan and Shane, the other man in her life, coming to a head dare I say it - deep in the night.

This was my favourite part of the story when Lela’s gets heavily involved in their case, which requires her to work with Shane, much to Jordan’s displeasure.

As always, the suspense and mystery of the joint cases kept me interested, turning the pages to find out what happens next.

When I did get to the end, Ms Joseph’s had again left me wanting more. I certainly hope this isn’t the end of the series because I want to know what Lela decides.

This is the third book in the Alexander Ranch Matter series. The folks at the ranch investigate issues involving those who can "drain" life energy from "normals" and turn it into a crime. The main character Lela is a novice psychic who helps them solve their cases. She also has an on and off relationship with the sexy Jordan who can't seem to stay out of her bed. There's a nice balance between mystery and the building relationship between Lela and Jordan as she struggles to decide just how deep she wants their relationship to go. A well written paranormal mystery with a dose of romance on the side. This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review by author Marla Josephs. This is book 3 of the Alexanders Ranch series by the author.

Lela comes back from a short vacation to find that some healthy dogs have died. There seems to be no explanation as to why but when the Alexanders healer checks out the dead dogs she notices something. Jordan and the Alexanders are called into a case where 2 men have been drained and beaten to death. With the Alexanders and Lela trying to figure things out both cases take a strange turn when they are linked together and now they have to figure out how and why.

This is a fantastic paranormal story and series.

After having listened to the first 2 books in the Alexander Ranch series, I was excited to get to listen to the third one. I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I really enjoyed getting to know Lela, Jordan, and the rest of the Alexander Ranch family a little bit better. While listening to the story, at times I was holding my breath, and other times I was laughing out loud. With the drama, romance, humor and the touch of the paranormal, this book keeps you wanting to listen until the end. JC Brazil did a great job narrating this book.

I swear these books are absolutely addicting! The suspense, the action, the characters, it truly has it all. Lela is asked to help on another case and tensions and emotions will run high with some characters as they set a trap to find a killer. I found myself holding my breath at times in anticipation of what was going to happen next. This is definitely not a series to be missed and I cannot wait to see what will happen between these characters next!!

Death in the Night

This is a standalone book, but I feel it is good to read them in order as people from other books and their relationships are mentioned in the new books. This book tugged on my heartstrings a lot and had me in tears. I enjoy reading about the relationships between Lela, her family and the Alexanders. I hope we continue to see that grow in future books.

Another trip to the Alexander Ranch and a great story spun by Marla Josephs. The character development continues from book to book until you are swept up into the Alexander family and care about its members. The story was great, the dramatic tension with the characters kept the book interesting and fast paced. Worth your time to read.

4.5 Captivating Stars!
I was so excited for book 3 and it did not disappoint! There are drainers out there killing men and women and it is a race against the clock to find them before there are any more deaths. Lela and Jordan have grown closer as Lela becomes a greater asset on the Alexander team. Lela is growing more excited by her role in their investigations and finds it hard to do her job with Jordan being so protective. Ms Joseph's expertly weaved an organic and provocative story about family, life, and love, all entwined with a breathtaking and intriguing mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end.
JC Brazil has a smooth sultry voice that was easy to listen to. I felt her voice changes for several characters weren't as distinct as I like, but her pacing was good and I was able to get lost in the story.
I love this unique, exciting, and sexy series and I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Another Case, More Drama & Action from the Alexander Team

Deep in the Night

An Alexander Ranch Matter, Volume 3

By: Marla Josephs
Narrated by: JC Brazil

Yes! Marla Josephs brings it in this 3rd Alexander Ranch Book, a thrilling mystery, crime drama with a touch of paranormal and romance.

I can not praise Marla Josephs enough for her wonderful terrific skills and creative & imaginative stories and characters. The character development deeps as the series goes on, you learn more about each, their gifts, emotions and relationships. I am looking forward to reading more about the main characters and secondary ones. Team Lela & Jordan here!!

Deep in the Night brings another case or two to Alexander Ranch Security, it is interesting and keeps you wondering as they work to solve it using their supernatural abilities.

I listened to the audio version and J.C. Brazil did a nice job narrating.

Thank you Marla Josephs for another Great Read & Listen!!

Loved the new instalment in the series. The unexpected twists in the story had me listening well into the night. Broke my heart when the two orphaned kids were found and their story. Jordan is becoming quite possessive and I am glad that Lela stands her ground, but I do hope they will get their differences aired because their chemistry is off the charts. Loved Lela's sister, who we actually meet in this story, she is fun and so are her sons. The dynamics of that family is quite fun to discover. Ethan is still my fave, the charming rogue :D

It can be read/listened to as a standalone, but to understand the storyline better, I would advise starting with book 1. I am so looking forward to the next book. Ms. Josephs! I am hooked!

Sigh...I’m still team Jordan! This book starts off w Lela & the Alexanders investigating the unexplained deaths of several men & women. It’s apparent to the Alexander crew that these ppl have been drained of their life force and so Lela is called in to read minds. As always there’s lots of drama...and one particular incident that has Jordan going all caveman on Lela. I thought it was sweet but, of course Lela disagreed! She dumped poor Jordan...no HEA but the murders were solved so there’s that. Yes I loved this book! Love the series!

This book, just like the previous did not disappoint. I loved the story and the tension that is built throughout is very entrancing. You just have to keep listening to see what’s happening. That said, the narration was difficult for me. It almost sounded like my gps was reading to me for most of the book. Luckily I feel connected enough to all the characters that I kept listening or I would have missed out on this great book that Marla Josephs gave us. Can’t wait to listen to the next installment of Alexander Ranch.

The Alexanders are Back to Solve Another Mystery. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. The Alexander Ranch Series books just keep getting better and better. Same characters, new PNR mystery. Even though I have listened to the previous two audiobooks in this series, which was narrated by a different narrator, this story was written so that it can be a stand-alone or continuation in the series. The author provides enough of characters back stories that you don't have to read/listen to the first two books and can start with this one. I'm excited to listen to the 4th & 5th books when they come to audible and see what antics Lela Charles and the Alexanders get into next. Even though this book was narrated by a different female performer, I could barely tell a difference which was very pleasing. I'm not a fan of changing performers when you are already used to someone else performing the same character in a series. If the performance is for different characters in a series, then it's even better when they use different narrators, and helps to make the characters and stories more believable and brought to life.

Lela is swept into an emotional rollercoaster ride when she helps Alexander consulting with another case.
their mysterious, intruiging tale sees Lela spending more time with her friends from Alexander ranch and continues her erratic relationship with Jordan.
