The Fifth Lesson is the second book in The Bay Boys series, but can be read as a standalone. In this book we meet THE ADORABLE ADAM -- and believe me girls, he is absolutely adorable -- it's almost impossible not to fall in love with him.
It all begins with one drunken night and an email our heroine Christie sends to her boss. When she realizes what she has done, she turns to her friend Adam "the sexy nerd" for help.
Of course Adam wants to help Christie, but he also wants something in return. Needing some advice in the love department, he can't imagine anyone better than Christie to give him some lessons in "how to pleasure women". Not wanting to ruin their friendship, they agree on four lessons.
OH BOY, just thinking about it...
Those lessons were one of my favourite parts of this book.
But when their lessons are slowly coming to an end, neither of them is willing to admit that there is more between them...
I really loved this book. I laughed, I swooned and even had some tears in my eyes.
But the best part was that I really had butterflies in my stomach while reading it.
Thank you so much, Emilia Winters for giving me an arc of this wonderful book!

I was traumatized because of the abrupt endings in the past few books I read...I am feeling content now that I have read a book with an actual epilogue. Good read ;)

I've read some reviews where the heroine being kissed by another man is listed as a warning. However, there is no mention of the hero being in a strip club and sitting through a lap dance while imagining the stripper is the heroine. This just killed it for me.

Adam was intriguing in that book but the blurb of this book seems unappealing. Also after going through the reviews it seems that the h is not the perfect candidate for the virgin h.

3.5 rounded up to 4 starts. This is one of those books that has everything you want in a book but for some reason it just didn't quite hit the mark.
Adam is a gorgeous, geeky computer nerd rapidly approaching his 30th birthday still a virgin. Christie is an acquaintance of his, someone Adam has been secretly lusting for in his head for quite awhile. Christie is a career minded sometime party girl, with no boyfriends for awhile and a boss from hell. Then she does a terribly stupid thing under the influence of alcohol, she sends her boss a rather nasty email that if he reads it will surely get her fired. The only person Christie knows that could possibly erase the email before it is read is Adam so she begs him to help her. He will, but has a payment in mind. Help him become more comfortable around women so that he can lose his virginity before he's thirty. Well, all we romance readers know what happens.
My problem with the book was that I wanted to really feel the emotional pull between Christy and Adam as they discovered each other but I just didn't. Yes, it was cute and sexy, a great HEA but I think we could have gotten into their heads a little more as their feelings developed and this would have been a great book.

Like Christie said Adam was freakin' adorable. Slightly nerdy (a lot), a little awkward, subtly sexy, and a whole lot sweet. I loved him. His reaction at the BBQ showed what a gentleman he was. His reaction when he was leaving showed he wasn't a pushover either. His interactions with Christie - he was great. And his relationship with his mother - if that doesn't make you want to give him a hug then I don't know what to tell you.
I liked Christie and loved her email. Who of us hasn't wanted to do that but never had enough booze, stupid, or crazy at one time to do it? Initially I didn't like her as much as Adam (refer to BBQ scene) but she grew on me and I thought she and Adam were a perfect couple.
A few miscommunications here and there but for the most part they were mature adults who talked things through. I really liked them and my only negative would have been a longer epilogue because I loved Adam that much. Too bad I can't find one of those for my daughter.

This book was everything the blurb promised-nothing less, nothing more. It was a nice, one time read. The characters were nice enough, but the story didn't have much of a plot-there are no big conflicts, either external or internal.
I felt that the characters were very insensitive at times. An example: because the hero doesn't date anyone, the heroine assumes that he's gay(why? because gay men don't date?). The hero and his friends get offended and angry and take it as an insult to his masculinity. Need I say more? It's sad when these stereotypical prejudices creep in good books, which is why I had to reduce a star from the rating. I like heroes and heroines who don't have rigid notions of what masculinity and femininity is supposed to be.

I was so excited to read this because of the role reversal of the H/h. For once we have the virgin hero going to the more experienced heroine for advice on seduction. I thought I was going to love this but sadly it was just a so-so read.
I would've probably liked it more if there hadn't been those couple frustrating parts that made me want to jump in the book and shake these two. I just wanted them to be upfront with each other, instead of making assumptions in their minds and hurting each other.

It pains me to give this a low rating because I absolutely love virgin heroes, but the heroine killed this for me. These weren’t lessons...they were excuses to have sex with the hero. Lessons would be about how to talk to or hit on a woman, maybe a little more...not jumping right in to performing oral sex.
Maybe its just me...but the good about the hero couldn’t undo the heroine.

Finally, a good contemporary romance! I have been reading some clunkers lately so The Fifth Lesson was right on time. So many thoughts so I will try to keep them organized.
What I loved:
-Adam was adorable even if he hated being called that. He was sweet, kind, bad at flirting, really bad at reading women, and overly analytical. Oh, and he was a tall runner who wore glasses. Obviously, he was a virgin (score) but he wasn't sex obsessed. He was so crazy about Christie and in love with her from the start. When he tells her that he would have waited forever for her... too adorable.
-Christie was great. She had a good sense of self, she was generous and funny. Plus, she wasn't insecure about her body or her sexuality. She teased Adam to within an inch of his life and it ended up helping them both open up. Plus, she had interests and goals completely independent of him and men in general. And she is tall. So tired of five foot nothing women with more hair than brains. I need more heroines like this please!
-The lessons were sexy without feeling like a how to or being impersonal. One of the many reasons I usually avoid this trope is how the teacher ends up feeling like a surrogate. That didn't happen here.
-Even being into each other from the start, we got to see their relationship develop into something more AND see why they were friends. Their friendship got deeper as they got closer romantically and physically.
What I liked:
-The storylines about their complicated parental relationships. It made their mutual fumbling make more sense (he's never had a girlfriend, she has had two long term relationships with guys that didn't see her as wife material).
- That they both had real hobbies and actually went to work!
What I disliked:
-They had way too many misunderstandings. The first one made sense because they were making it up as they went along. The subsequent ones undermined the friendship they had. Yes, he was bad at reading people and she was sensitive to rejection but after a while it got to feel like the author was trying to drag things out. Especially, the bar scene with Mike and Lydia.
-Their friends were nosey and obnoxious. I get that people probably want an update on the leads from prior books but cupcake girl and OCD slut guy were in this way too much.
-Two words: lap dance.
-It made sense but we get an HFN with the promise of an HEA.
What I kind of hated:
-The big misunderstanding/ Adam is a jackhole because reasons.
He is feeling guilty because he thinks he used her like her exs but what?! He was getting everything he had wanted from the moment they met but because sex was involved he lost his mind? We get him mentally kicking his own butt and a good apology but the whole set up felt forced. Thankfully it was quick.
-The obligatory "get jealous over randoms" scene.
-Caleb. Another one of Adam's friends who is a complete jackhole to every woman because his ex was terrible. He's a slutty misogynist but he's been hurt so feel bad for him. His book pairs him with a virgin who has been in love with him for years while he screwed others. Hard Pass.
All in all I enjoyed this one.

I was given an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I read the first book in this series and reached out to let Emilia know how much I loved it and how I couldn't wait for Caleb's book. This is Adam's book. I was a little apprehensive going in because... well... I probably liked Adam the least of the 4 'Bay Boys' based on the little I read about him in Electric. That all changed once I started reading The Fifth Lesson.
On paper, Adam and Christie are complete opposites. He's an introverted computer nerd and Christie is outgoing and straight forward, but together they just work. I saw the ending coming, but who the heck cares? It's all about their journey to get there that pulls you in. There's one scene in particular that involves a blindfold.... woah.
I need to say... Christie's family problems, so closely mirrored some of my own that parts were tough to digest. Her relationship with her father, it just hit a little too close to home. But, I love that Emilia gave me the feels while reading this. The story had depth, but wasn't so over the top that it wasn't believable.
One of my favorite quotes? '...remember that words are paper thin and actions are more honest.'
This book is part of a series, but each book can be read as a standalone.

Adorable Adam! We've all known one or two. That guy who is so absorbed by computers, software, comic books, the crazy characters on the TV show 'The Big Bang Theory' that somehow, he has no idea how sexy-charming he is, in his geeky way?! Manhood starts somewhere around age thirty when he is finally coming into his own...
This book makes me wonder how many had a V-card and just needed a sexy-time arrangement? Note to self: Pay better attention! :P
The basic premise is super awesome in that when Adam comes to Christie's rescue after an ill-timed social blunder at a friend's backyard barbecue, he makes a request that will help him get rid of his 'V' problem, once and for all.
From there, an undeniable attraction and chemistry brings these two together in a wonderfully sweet and sexy way.
Unique premise, fun plot-line and well-developed characters with ample amounts of awkward, estranged, erotic tension that finally gels together into some seriously hot sex/love scenes.
This book makes me wonder how many had a V-card and just needed a sexy-time arrangement? Note to self: Pay better attention! :P

I love a geeky, beta hero so Adam was just what I needed. I would have given it a higher star rating, because I did enjoy this book, if it weren't for so many misunderstandings. Some simple conversation could have go a long way. I'd still reco this if you want a light read with a different male MC. Just know going in that there will be lots of miscommunication will be between these friends-to-lovers. I needed a light read with some steam and banter and this delivered.
I'll check out Emilia Winters in the future.

I'm fan of their exchanges. I like to see a virgin hero with 30 years. Who's hot and nice. I like her, she's bold and she goes for it. I don't feel it was dragged, they connected, they met and they actually act more like a couple( with their own stages) than other couples in romance land, at least to me.
I loved how she recognizes what she deserves and she's at least honest with herself. No a dumbass here! Yo.

Ok, I'm glad I bought this one even though I LOATHED the hero in the first book (seriously, fuck that dude).
In this book however, the hero is actually a good guy. When I'm after a geeky hero, this is what I want. A guy who is smart, but not an asshole about it. The whole virgin thing was a bit overdone, but since it was a major driver of the plot, I suppose I'll excuse it.
The heroine was good as well. She was confident and brassy in a way that challenged and brought out the hero. I liked the relationship between these two. But I wish there had been one less miscommunication between them; that whole thing went on too many times.
There was some cliched "traumatic childhood" stuff going on - I guess that's basically par for the course in any contemporary.
I thought the writing was better overall in this book. However I won't read the next in the series. The so called "hero" is discribed as a "woman hater" and I get enough misogyny in real life; I don't want that in my mindless escapism media.

Received the ARC for a honest review. Absolutely loved this book. Read it twice. Beautifully written. The characters are likable, love the humor and the alpha roll he played. I fell in love with Adam. I could not put it down. It has you in awe from pagwbone until the end. Going back to read the first book. No doubt it will be just as good. A must read and a must have in your collection of books to re read on rainy days.

I was in a pretty severe Zoey Draven withdrawal, so I dug out her old contemporary romance pseudonym and dived into this book.
And damn! Zoey Draven still had her touch in contemporary - the romance was very cute, and while Adam did something really stupid, it made a lot of sense why he did it lmao.
I do think Zoey Draven's creativity shines through a lot better in the sci-fi romance space though, so I can see why she eventually made the switch.
And damn! Zoey Draven still had her touch in contemporary - the romance was very cute, and while Adam did something really stupid, it made a lot of sense why he did it lmao.

Apparently, this is another one of the books I purchased in my last depressive episode and only just now catching up with books on my kindle purchased years ago.
It was somewhat diverting and no doubt I would have found it very consoling at the time I bought had I read it then. Written well-enough, characters interesting enough even though I find the basic plot implausible.

Het was oke hoor. Ben blij dat het niet langer was. Vond het eigenlijk wel jammer dat het 3de persoon was. Voelde onpersoonlijk en toch kinderlijk.
Het is licht met toch wat heftigs door de familie drama van hun beide. Daar mocht meer op gefocust worden. Het leek eigenlijk net op opvulling van het verhaal om wat angst erin toe te voegen.

The book starts on a rather icky premise (the main characters do deal with it later, although not to my complete satisfaction) and most of the complications could have been avoided if everyone would just use their words. The sex scenes are hot and the body-positivity of the heroine was refreshing.

2.5* Irritating setup made h seem TSTL at the beginning but fortunately they moved away from that quickly. Writing felt perfunctory. Appreciated parallels of family angst and discussion of mental health.
