Growing up in the American heartland in the 60's was so much different from growing up today. This book takes you on a journey as the author goes from first grade up until middle school, spanning almost the entire decade. Consisting of a series of short essays about riding bikes, playing games, traveling, fishing, family life, and more, you will be taken back 60 years, to what small town life was back in the day. Some chapters bring laughter, some bring tears, some just tell a story. But they all will have you thinking, and looking back on your own childhood.
Richard Morgan spins yarns like no other. What a great group of delightful stories that take you back to a simpler time when television had three stations, kids played with toy guns or sticks, whatever happened to be available, where kids could, and had to use their imagination while playing. Mothers and fathers could send the kids out to play with their friends and not worry about the boogey man. The stories are fun, happy, sad, instructional, and family oriented. Did I say fun? I believe you'll love reading about Richard's adventures in and around Port Clinton from his earliest memories until junior high school. I know you'll love this book. I hope he has more stories to tell us in the future.
This is a great read for people of all ages! I wasn’t around in the 60s, but still enjoyed this trip back in time to see the world through a small-town Ohio kids view. The short stories the author shares throughout his childhood are humorous and heartfelt. It won’t take readers long to finish this memoir- I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone in need of a light, fun read.
