Escape to Colorado where a chance encounter would spark love that heals even the deepest scars.
Adelaide finds solace in the picturesque town of Firefly Valley beneath the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains and the open landscape. Putting the shattered pieces of her life back together isn't easy, and it's even harder when she finds herself drawn to the rugged outdoorsman, Colt Taylor.
Colt Taylor watched as Adelaide rolled into town like a category five hurricane, and his eyes were stuck on her like glue. But there was something swimming in the dark depths of her gaze, something lonely and afraid. Something he swore only he was capable of fixing. And he would, no matter how much that sweet hellfire fought him.
As she navigates through her unraveling feelings, she worries that the shadows of her past will catch up with her. Can renewed love be the beacon of hope that cuts through the darkness of her past?
Or will the tie that binds also be the one that suffocates?

I loved reading this book! It captivates you from the first chapter and holds onto you until the very end. This was a wonderful city girl meets country boy. I don't think either of them had any idea what the other was in for and it made it all that much better. The banter between these two was spectacular. She was such a… well hellfire, and he was eating it up. I loved that he worked so hard to show her what real love means. Then his buddy Dakota giving him so much crap for it is absolutely the best bud thing to do and it's perfect. Though I'm still rooting for him to get an ever after at some point. I love the friendship between Everleigh and Adelaide too. They are just too perfect and their conversations back and forth are great! I was absolutely cracking up over some of the things that Colt would say to Adelaide, knowing that they were going to rile her up. Things to just be ridiculous. I loved the statements that Colt would make that would just make me laugh out loud. I also love Bolter, makes me crack up with the affair she has. There were some twists and turns within this book that you definitely could see coming but maybe not in the way that they do, and leave you just shaking your head. I think the ending was just beautiful.
I really enjoyed this book. It was my first book by Caty Lee that I have read and it was a great experience. 🙂I would say that it wasn’t an on fire spicy read. It was softer, but then when there was spicy scenes, Oh my gosh!! Look out because they are on fire! I definitely would recommend this book.
I absolutely loved this book! This was my first time reading a Caty Lee book and I was IMPRESSED!! I will be reading more books by her!! I could not put this book down and finished within 3 days and would’ve finished it quicker if it hadn’t have been for kiddos! 😂 The growing relationship between Colt & Adelaide, is addicting and the banter and connection they have from the beginning is the perfect hook and sinker! You couldn’t ask for a better duo! City girl meets country boy always makes for the perfect story! He’s her safe haven from a past that she’s trying to escape and she’s his “hellfire” that he’s always been missing! You will also be introduced to Dakota (Colt’s best friend) and Everleigh (Adelaide’s best friend that she makes and needs that she has never had); and I NEED their story and to see how they play out and I’m hoping Caty will eventually come out with their story! This read will also have you laughing with some of the lines Colt says! And this book will also have you sweating with some of the things Colt says! The book is not all spice; but when you get to those scenes; you better hold on; because they are perfection and will literally take your breath away; let’s just say Caty know how to write a 🌶️🌶️🌶️ scene!!! This is a must read. I could go on and on about this read! 💜
Caty Lee is an auto read/auto buy author for me. I can’t help but fall in love with the characters and stories every single time and this one is no different.
Adelaide is running from her past and finds herself in the small town of Firefly Valley. It’s nothing like she is used to, but it’s just what she needs. She’s got a tough and hard exterior, she’s sassy, and very independent. She is here to escape and doesn’t want to let anyone in or ask for help.
Colt is the true definition of a charming cowboy. He took one look at Adelaide and was smitten. He is hardworking and takes care of those around him. And now he has his eyes set on his beautiful neighbor. And this man had a dirty and delicious mouth on him.
The banter between Colt and Adelaide had me laughing out loud. The comebacks these two had for one another were golden. It didn’t matter what she threw at him, he kept coming back for more. He was not giving up. But it’s just what she needed. She needed someone to show her what love actually was. And then a cow pining over a rooster…I have read it all! I couldn’t help but chuckle at that one.
This book was full of laughs, lots of spice, and moments where your heart was going to drop afraid of what was about to happen next. It was a beautiful small town romance.
I absolutely love this book! I really don’t have the words for this book. What I can tell you is that if you like Elsie Silver or Catherine Cowles books, then you will love this one. From the very beginning I was like oh wow this is great.
From the banter to the love between Colt & Adelaide, I couldn’t have asked for a better story. It’s such an easy read.
There were times I was literally sick to my stomach waiting for the other shoe to drop. The things that Adelaide went through before she met Colt… ughhhh…
Anyways, this is a must read. I can’t say enough good things about it.
I just loved this book. Adelaide is such a black cat character and has her reasons to be that way. Colt, man, that man is fire. I just love a cowboy.
Adelaide comes to Firefly Valley for a new start and when she runs into Colt, he is just flirty and Adelaide makes sure to tell him how much she doesn’t like him.
Colt sees her and her attitude and he falls hard. I really enjoyed how he continuously comes to help her with so many things and is determined to wear her down.
There is a mystery in this book too and you will want to read this to find out why and who Adelaide ran from. Such a great book.
I instantly fell in love with Colt, his flirting is over the top and made me grin every time. He could flirt with me any day.
I loved that he was sunshine to Adelaide’s black cat ways. Adelaide is justifiably in her black cat ways for a reason. If you asked her she’d say she doesn’t need to prove anything to you.
Adelaide and Everleigh’s instant friendship was entertaining to see, they’re very similar and could cause all kinds of trouble.
I need Everleigh to have her own book, okay? Okay 👌
If small town romance is your thing this book is for you, if you love a sweet read with a plot twist or two, this book is for you.
Favourite quotes-
“Damn, my little hellfire has such a beautiful face when she isn’t giving me the death stare.”
“I wanted nothing more than to devour every piece of that attitude. Show her how a man like me could make her body sing. And I'd have her feeling real good. The things I could make those lips say…”
“I can’t wait to give you a nice pearl necklace. Woulda matched that little dress perfectly.”
Wow is the first word that comes to mind when I finished this book! I have absolutely loved every book Caty has written and this one was no different!!!
While I adore Caty's dark and contemporary romance books, this book felt like such a breath of fresh air! Caty outdid herself with this small town romance. It was such a light, sexy read with a dash of suspense that makes this story amazing and addicting.
I love how Adelaide is more of the grumpy MC in this, it made the banter 10x better. I was literally laughing out loud at some parts. When she and Colt had their first date I wasn't expecting her to be as open as she was and I think that made me like her more than I already did. Given her past, you can only imagine how tough it was for her to be so vulnerable. Adelaide grew a lot during this book and I feel she learned so much about herself outside of her family and I just loved that for her.
We've got another favorite southern man yall!! Colt does not hold back with his flirty words and oh did I feel like I was melting from everything he said!! Him running to her in a storm?? That meant so much to me as a girly who hates being alone during storms 😭 He never gave up on Adelaide, was always there no matter what they went through. They just end up being perfect fro each other and their HEA was beautiful.
Notice how I didn't mention THOSE characters? Hate them bad 😭 Was rooting for my babies the entire time and when Colt stood up against them? Was cheering so bad!!
I was so in tune with Colt and Adelaides story but couldn't help but get invested with the side characters as well. Everleigh and Dakota are more side characters that Caty has written that I've grown to love and want to know more about.
Caty Lee has truly outdone herself with Beneath the Peaks, a delightful small-town romance that pulls readers in with its perfect blend of scenic farm life, irresistible male leads, and undeniable chemistry. From the very first page, the novel captures the heart with its authentic portrayal of small-town charm, making it an incredibly fun and immersive read.
At the beginning, I found myself struggling with the main female character, whose anger seemed to cloud her actions and decisions. However, as the story unfolded, I began to understand the depth of her emotions, and her character arc became all the more compelling. Watching her transform and grow throughout the book—from someone struggling with her past to someone embracing a new life in a tight-knit community—was both heartwarming and empowering.
The romance between her and the swoon-worthy Colt was a highlight of the novel, taking the relationship to dizzying heights as their connection deepened. Their chemistry was palpable, and I loved seeing how their relationship developed naturally, with plenty of spice and tender moments.
Once again, Caty Lee proves her talent for creating relatable characters and compelling narratives. She truly knows how to keep readers hooked, and Beneath the Peaks is no exception. The book is not only a great escape into the world of small-town life and passionate romance, but also a touching exploration of personal growth and healing. If you're a fan of small-town romances with depth, charm, and plenty of heat, this one is a must-read!
🖤 Whatever Caty writes, I read it. Adelaide and Colt’s banter was everything, it had me dying laughing. They were perfect for each other. Adelaide being jaded and hurt needed the golden retriever cowboy to show her that she was safe and worthy of love and affection. From the very beginning you can see that it’s insta love for Colt, he doesn’t need convincing that he will make Adelaide his. Adelaide on the other hand needed more convincing from herself that she was worthy of love and slowly realized that Colt wasn’t all that bad. I loved watching them fall for each other, cringy cock jokes and all 😂. This was a fun read and a great way to send me back into my cowboy/small town era! Also shoutout to Everleigh cause we all need a friend like that! One that will call us out on our bullshit but also be a little delulu with us. I can’t wait to see what else Caty has in store for the rest of the characters.
📚Book Type: small town romance
✨Tropes/CW’s 🧎🏽♀️Cowboy x city girl 🧎🏽♀️Hilarious banter 🧎🏽♀️Black cat/Golden retriever
Talk about a fun small town romance, it was nicely mixed with some dark undertones and whispers of 13 Things I Hate About You. From the moment that Adelaide arrived in Firefly Valley in her stiletto heels, she wasn't sure if she had temporary break from sanity when she bought a rundown cabin. While Adelaide is trying to get her feet back under herself, local dairy farmer and neighbor Colt takes one look at Adelaide and knows she is the best things since the invention of the milk carton. I love that Colt falls first and has no hesitation in letting Adelaide know. And with every overture, he is met with Adelaide's sharp comebacks, but has much as she protest that she hates everything about him, she also struggles to deny her attraction. Readers will love every moment of watching Adelaide realize that there is nothing at all that she hates about Colt and the chemistry that ignites afterwards.
What can I say I literally LOVED this book. I spent the entire morning binging it and couldn’t be more happy with the way this was wrapped up and all the little Easter eggs for book two.
This had it all, it had a black cat girlie who was truly a black cat GIRLIE. Adelaide was not here for the games. She was strong and powerful and didn’t take anyone’s shit. I loved her so much!!
Colt was definitely a golden retriever. He’s the type of guy every girl wants living next door to her. One who sees through the attitude and knows what’s underneath is soft and IGHHHHH swooning I loved him so much.
The suspense was beautiful woven into the story and the romance was a slow burn that was HOT the second it hit. The ending had me ugly crying it was so cute.
This book was absolutely incredible! Adelaide needed a fresh start, a new life, somewhere she could start over. Purchasing a small cabin in middle of nowhere (aka Firefly Valley, Colorado) is her best solution. Despite her protests, her new annoyingly handsome neighbor, Colt Taylor can’t seem to stay away. When Adelaide realizes that Colt is the real deal, she starts letting him break down her walls. Things are going well until Adelaide’s past catches up to her…. 🔥Forced Proximity ❤️Black Cat x Golden Retriever 🔥Suspense ❤️Small Town 🔥Starting Over ❤️City Girl x Rancher 🔥Banter I’m extremely excited to see what comes next! Thank you to Caty Lee for the ARC! 💗
3.25⭐️ At first, this book was like grumpy x sunshine just the other way around - the woman was grumpy, and the male a sunshine which is not really my type of read but that's on me, not the book. Then actually, I'm mad that the "fight" got resolved like that, and I just am still kinda very mad about that but the ending evened it a bit out so I guess it wasn't like "no I dislike this" it was more like "this was a good time spent". The book was fast-paced, and I did finish it in one day, in the span of a few hours, but there was also something about the writing that seemed odd, maybe not even odd, but like new.
If you are looking for your next small town romance look no further! This was such a smooth easy read with the kind of small town charm that pulls you in and makes you want to stay a while! Adelaide is running from her past and finds herself in Firefly Valley where she catches the attention of Colt. I love that the FMC is the grumpy one in the story and the MMC is the sunshine as it makes for the perfect banter! The chemistry these two has is perfect and definitely makes the spice well spice😮💨. This book from Caty was different for me as I am used to her dark romance but it did NOT disappoint!
Adelaide finds solace in the picturesque town of Firefly Valley beneath the majestic peaks of the Rocky Mountains and the open landscape. 😢 Kleenex! Lots and lots of kleenex. Caty! I cannot recommend this book enough. Yes I do love this authors books but this one is quite different. The trauma that the MFC goes through I had to read it twice. The author held me in her grip and didn’t let go until the ending. 💖 This is funny, sad, there’s a hero and heroine (and it’s not the FMC 😉). Wait, actually, no, I will let you decide. ⭐️ I, to the 100th degree, recommend this book. You will love the banter, the spice, the smart little quips from Colt, the sassyness from Adelaide and most of all the perfectly perfect story.
Beneath the Peaks was the perfect summer read—equal parts heart-wrenching and heartwarming. The story beautifully captures the raw, emotional journey of the FMC as she works through her pain and healing. What makes it even more powerful is the MMC, whose humor and persistence bring warmth and light to her life. His steady effort to earn her trust and show her the kind of love she’s always deserved is both touching and unforgettable.
Caty Lee delivers a story full of depth, vulnerability, and slow-burn romance that feels real and earned.
Brilliant narration from Michelle Thompson who brings the humour, chemistry and mystery to your ears.
Adelaide goes to Firefly Valley for a new start, buying a run down cabin. Very different from the city. She is on the grumpy side, while Colt her dairy farmer neighbour is full of joy. He is one strong and fun filled character. His flirty ways will have you laughing, as he completely taken with Adelaide. One problem is Adelaide makes sure to tell him how much she doesn’t like him. Chemistry, great one liners, oh yes a mystery.
If she writes it, I will read it. Caty has quickly become one of my favorite authors to read. While this story dives in a different direction than her past works, her voice and style still is right there for the reader to recognize.
This story is a small town romance where our FMC is running from her past, only to meet her new dairy rancher neighbor. True to Caty's style Adelaide has some baggage, and that baggage echoes the drama that we find in Caty's previous works.
If you like small town, rancher, big city girl romance books with a twist, then give this one a read.
Adelaide is new to Firefly Valley. She has a past, and she isn't likely to get close to anyone. She took her last 30,000 and bought an old cabin out in the country and far away from the east coast. While at the market getting a Lil bit of groceries she run into Colt Taylor. The towns dairy farmer. Colt is instantly smitten by her fiul mouth and bad attitude. On the way home Adelaide is walking and Colt tries to pick her with a colorful mouth she turns his charming but annoying jokes down. After chasing down his run away cow Bolter Colt learns who his neighbor is. After much persuasion Adelaide ends up with Colt. He learns she is married and running from a bad family. Their love is sweet their banter kept me cackling. I absolutely loved this story. Another great read by Caty Lee
Caty Lee did amazing with this small town romance! Beneath the Peaks gives you the small town second chance feel. Adelaide and Colts romance transcended and blossomed right before your eyes with every page read. The banter was top tier and I loved that he feel first and his love was unwavering. If you’re looking for feel good with some emotional twists this is the book for you!!!
This book was a delight to read. Big city meets small town and life is never the same again. There is suspense, banter and moments where I would laugh out loud. This is a great book to sit and relax to. WAIT!! I forgot SPICE there is of course spice !! I really have enjoyed all the books I have read from this author and this s anther winner too.
This was such a good read. It had banter, spice, and suspense and I really enjoyed it. I absolutely fell in love with Colt. He saw Adelaide and fell hard and fast and it was so cute watching him do whatever he could just to be around her. He looked past her frosty exterior and sharp words and showed her love. It was fantastic.
This was an ARC. Thank you for allowing me a chance to read this!!! It was refreshing to read.
This was an easy read. Fun... great characters... Golden Retriever MMC falls first.... Spunky, sassy, and will get it done because she has to FMC...Bi-ratial MMC(Caucasian)/FMC(African American)...set in Colorado. I loved this story. I would definitely recommend it, and/or add it to your TBR list!!
Escape to Firefly Valley in my first small town romance. This sweet, steamy, romantic suspense is book one of three and I absolutely cannot wait to share these characters with you. The banter and spice still have me kicking my feet! You can pre order your copy here :) https://a.co/d/ijOa9AH
This may be a small-town romance but it is full of suspense and an escaping cow! There is also some spice thrown in to make this an amazing read! If you love Caty's previous books, this will not let you down. Adelaide and Colt are goals!
I never thought I could love a small town romance the way I loved this one! I ate this up in a few days. I love the hilarious banter and I loved the way Caty Lee wrapped up the ending beautifully. I was ugly crying, laughing, and wishing I had a cowboy all of my own
Colt and Adelaide are so cute. She learning her worth and learning to be happy was amazing to read. Colt never leaving is beautiful. Such a beautifully written book.
I have YET to read a Caty Lee novel that I would rate under five stars. She is a master at her craft, writing dark to light romances that hit every single time.
Beneath the Peaks is a grand small town, cowboy romance that still has suspense wound into it. Adelaide fled an ab*sive marriage that was arranged by her father, who wanted a boy instead of the girl he got. Colt is the dairy farmer next door, who has never been entranced by a woman before her.
Their whirlwind of a romance starts rocky, as she doesn’t want to give her heart away, but with his witty banter, and sharp tongue, along with his southern charm, he wins her over. She is shown real love and affection for the first time in her life. And he shows he will do anything to keep her.
This novel also has some of the FUNNIEST banter I have ever read before. The wit shown in these conversations had me cackling. I devoured this novel!
