Demons overrun the city of San Francisco in the 1920s, leaving it to supernatural gumshoes to deal with them and protect the public at large...

Byron and Raven thought they had finally put the horrors of the past behind them when they sent the demon Moloch back to Hell. But as the city welcomes in the New Year, something shatters the silence. Byron’s deranged sister wakes up sane in the asylum. A ruthless slumlord plummets to his death in a luxury Rolls Royce. And when Byron uncovers a cursed ancient coin at the scene, he realizes the demonic menace is far from over.

As more cursed objects surface—each tied to a grisly crime—the trio get drawn into a new battle against dark forces. With their friend Jimmy, a no-nonsense cop, they must track down the mastermind behind the chaos. But time is running out. Raven’s vindictive grandfather, an influential archbishop, is breathing down their necks, threatening to strip them of their power and their freedom. And as tension rises, so do unexpected emotions between the ex-street rat and the bookish investigator.

Can they stop the demon before it’s too late, or will their growing feelings lead them down a path they can’t escape?

Charity Bishop is an author of historical fantasy, magical realism, and Christian horror/suspense who has been writing stories since a rainy afternoon at age eleven sparked her lifelong obsession with narrative. Over the past three decades, she has crafted intricately researched novels set everywhere from Napoleonic France to the doomed decks of the Titanic, always exploring the complexities of human nature with a blend of intellectual curiosity, creative abandon, and surprising humor. When she's not diving deep into historical archives or battling her inner demons of self-doubt, Charity can be found sewing gowns for Monster High dolls, being owned by her beloved cats, and dreaming up the next world for her readers to explore. Her work stands against hypocrisy, the abuse of power, and the darkness in human hearts, while always leaving room for hope, redemption, and the kind of plot twists that keep you reading long past your bedtime.

I think this is one of the best books I've ever written, and I don't normally think that. The adventure continues in a world of flappers, vintage (not then!) Rolls Royce cars, and... demons? It was fun to revisit my trio of supernatural investigators, now united to defeat a demon of unknown origins who leaves Byron in dire straits. And then Raven's grandfather came along to complicate things. This plot came to me suddenly and I wrote the entire book in about a month, with very few changes that showed up in subsequent drafts. It's just a solid plot that takes a lot of unexpected twists and turns. Hold onto your fedoras, gumshoes! You won't want to miss a minute of this thrilling second installment in the Byron Trilogy!

I've enjoyed all of Charity Bishop's novels, but this might be my favorite so far. The characters continue to grow and expand after the dangers and adventures they faced in Byron. I loved Raven in particular in this book, along with Jimmy and Nora. Raven's kitten is perfect, and for anyone who owns cats, her behavior is spot on. I really liked the plot/mystery/demons the lead characters had to face and how everything worked out. This was a quick read, and just what I needed to unwind after the day job. Really looking forward to Falan, the last book!
