This book is heavy on the scientific explanations in the beginning, but that is a good thing, if you are about to radically change your lifestyle.
Once you understand the "why", there are chapters on which specific foods to eat, and recipes to get you started with the ketogenic diet.
Everything I was looking for!

I find this whole diet absolutely fascinating and totally eye-opening. We have been so wrong for so long about what makes us fat. (It really makes me angry at the food industry and corporate lobbyists, especially big sugar.) The movement toward ketogenic and paleo diets is finally getting things right. CUT SUGAR and eat fat and watch the lbs melt away! This is a useful, well-researched guide to the diet that includes helpful tips, recipes, and resources along with science written for a lay audience, but referencing peer-reviewed research. I'm impressed! And, after 10 weeks, 30 lbs lighter!! Highly recommend!

I won this on Good Reads.

In “The Ketogenic Diet”, Kristen Mancinelli not only does a great job at explaining the low carb/high fat diet in a way that you don’t have to be a medical professional to understand, but she has practical advice on staying on a diet. Anyone who has needed to stay on a diet regime, for personal or medical reasons, has been pressured to eat chat they shouldn’t. “One cookie wouldn’t hurt you” (quote from a friend of mine). If you’ve been thinking about trying low-carb diet or just need motivation to stay on the one you’re on, read “The Ketogenic Diet”.

Great take on the Ketogenic diet gives you scientific explanations and interviews. Useful information if you can make a life style change and have the discipline to be on a diet only. Great useful tips for when you commit to the low carb, high fat diet. Not a lot of recipes but then again this is not a recipe book this book is meant to be used as a information book to help people understand more in debt about the ketogenic diet while maintaining an healthy diet. The book is great but it doesn't tend to repeat itself a lot but would recommend if you want a better understanding on the subject.

I liked the fact-based scientific information at the beginning of the book, but towards the middle, the tone kind of shifted and it seemed like the author was writing to a person who had never read an ingredient label in their life. Some of the information in that section seemed pretty obvious to me, so I skimmed that part. I was interested in keto more for the beneficial health effects more so than the weight loss, which was not covered very much until the end, and in minor detail. Helpful book, and if you're wanting to lose weight, probably a good read!

This is a great introduction to the ketogenic diet and lifestyle from a registered dietitian point of view. She covers the science, food you can and can't eat, the psychology and potential problems. The diet works at losing weight quickly and clearing brain fog. It's tough to maintain in our overwhelming carb and processed food world but you will definitely look and feel better.

There aren't many keto recipes in the book but there are plenty of keto cookbooks out there now.

Very easy to understand why fat is not my enemy. I'm very motivated to start and see results in my body, mind and well-being.

Loved that it just made sense. A fantastic start to a new, different eating journey and my goal to ride 100 miles on my bike by next year.

This was a Goodreads Giveaway. I've been down this road before but Kristen Mancinelli's spin is as good as many and better than most. Keto really works if you have the discipline to deal with a bit of boredom.

This was very informative books and offered some comparisons with other low carb diets to show how the ketogenic diet could transfer to the paleo or Atkin's diets. I liked that the author had a sense of humour. There was a decent amount of scientific data and interviews with professionals. The book also provided a menu section and many online resources.
