I built my career by being ruthless in the courtroom and meticulous in my strategies. I was a powerful and commanding attorney and never met a case I couldn’t win. My self-control is iron-clad, or it was until I met Morgan Ashley, a beautiful private investigator and gifted hacker with a past as secretive as her methods. I couldn’t stop thinking about her after our one night together while on vacation. So, I tracked her down and flew her to Los Angeles to help with a high-profile case I was working on—a case where I needed new evidence to prove my client’s innocence.
But I got more than I bargained for when I fell for the woman who challenged me at every turn. I was treading in new territory and needed to be careful. Her expertise was as unmatched as her ability to keep people at arm’s length, and that’s exactly where she wanted to keep me. Now, I needed to prove to her that love wasn’t just another risk—it was the only fight worth winning.
Morgan
I learned early that the only person I could depend on was myself. My legendary hacker father raised and taught me everything about solving puzzles and exposing truths. After his untimely death, I turned those teachings into a career as a top private investigator and elite hacker. Secrets were my currency, and letting anyone get close to me was a risk I refused to take.
Being in control at all times had always been my number one survival rule until I met the ruggedly handsome, high-powered attorney Roman Hamilton. Not only was he sexy, but he also had a sharp mind and a reputation for winning at all costs. He was relentless in the courtroom, and even more so when it came to me with his dirty-talking ways and commanding presence in the bedroom. He started to chip away at the walls I’d spent years building, making me second guess my father’s last Never trust anyone.
Filled with tension, passion, and emotional depth, this story is about two brilliant minds finding strength in vulnerability and love in the most unexpected places.
Writing is my passion and my mission is to provide readers with romance novels that will whisk them away into another world and from the daily grind of life - one book at a time.
Fun story. New series..3 brothers..all lawyers. They work together at Hamilton Group and book 1 is about Roman. To start, love the relationship with his brothers, Parker and Julian. A lot of similarities to the Kind Family, which they are friends with, and I loved that.
On vacation, Roman meets Morgan and ends up needing her help with a case. To start, Morgan has lots of secrets and Roman keep catching her in the lies. This got to be a bit much after awhile. What does a guy have to do to get her to trust him? But anyway, as Roman and Morgan work their cases, Morgan’s personal complications are interconnected.
I liked there was a follow up and the continuation of the story but it was bit excessive. One week later…one week later…two months later…two months later..and so on and so on…ok we get it, time keeps moving on. But anyway, I still liked there was story.
Lots of banter and great chemistry. Despite some circumstances, still a fun, light, and entertaining read. Really look forward to Julian’s story next.
I couldn't finish it. I made it about a third of the way through, but the writing style is not for me. The transitions from one scene to the next are weird, practically non existent, the characters are doing one thing, then suddenly it's the next day or time or place, with no lead up to how they got there.
The heroine is a private investigator who apparently solves every problem or case with the bare minimum of evidence to string together. The characters aren't that likeable and kind of fall flat.
Grammar and sentence structure are fine, no issues there, but the story doesn't flow in a way that was enjoyable to me.
Don't think I'll be reading anything else from this author.
Great characters, steamy romance and murder, what more do you need.
Sandi Lynn doing what she does best. The characters and their connections, a great romance with drama thrown in. Loved it, and the brief appearances of characters from previous books. Now onto book 2.
New author for me, new fan! I loved this one! It kept things interesting throughout the entirety of the book, and I wasn’t expecting much from this one. I don’t remember how I came across this, but I don’t think it was in a subscription e-mail but most likely from randomly browsing Kindle Unlimited one day. It had loads of drama, but not between Roman and Morgan but with those around them. Roman meets Morgan while he’s away for a wedding and she’s investigating a client’s husband for proof of cheating since she’s a private investigator. I felt the roles were reversed in this book the whole time. Roman tried to act like he had the upper hand but really he was wrapped around Morgan’s little finger because he was so drawn to her. Then, at the same time Morgan got Roman out of a lot of situations and was essentially running the show with her expertise and ability to find out information and hold it against Roman but in a fun way. Meanwhile, Roman could tell when she was lying and could find out things too, much to her annoyance. Both Morgan and Roman were independent and fierce as well as sassy. Normally I would classify the woman as being sassy but they both were. Roman thought he could have her and then forget her but couldn’t stay away, while she was practically using him for fun and as a release. She would try to get away from him and come up with excuses while Roman would stay true to her wishes but then finagle her into seeing him anyway. There was so much fun banter and talking back that it was playful. It was entertaining to read about Morgan and Roman trying to gain the upper hand on each other. It was also fun reading about the cases Morgan helps Roman solve and the way she did it so effortlessly and seamless with no loopholes. This author manages to include multiple cases in this book that Morgan helps figure out that it didn’t feel boring or slow. It would focus on one case most of the book, only to then do mini ones up until the end of the story, some of them related, others not. It was ever changing, but never too far from the point of the story. It manages to still keep the primary focus on Roman and Morgan’s relationship while not letting that affect their working relationship and to solve cases. There were sections in chapters that just jumped into a sex scene with Roman and Morgan which I didn’t think I’d like but wound up really enjoying. There didn’t need to be a big, romantic gesture where the scene gets set up. It was like a in the moment kind of thing. Moving on, their relationship was the focal point of the story but the cases were a fun side part of it and helped explain Morgan’s individual journey as well as Roman’s. I kept waiting for the shoe to drop in this book but it never came which surprised me. It was like a murder mystery romance, except it didn’t involve them personally, they had to solve it. Then you have the family dynamics between Roman and his brothers that was exciting to read. This not only included themselves, but multiple mothers and their dad. They were close to all of them and it was refreshing to read. Then you get the subtle set ups to when Roman decides he wants to spend his life with Morgan and it didn’t feel rushed like it sometimes does when an author gets close to the ending of the book and just springs an engagement and wedding in. There was no bad blood or anger in this story, except a glimpse of it in Julian which is the next book in this series. I’m getting an enemies to lovers vibe with that one, though Julian seems genuinely pissed about his situation. I can’t wait to read this one, though it feels like it will be more challenging and not as effortless or smooth as this one.
A Riveting Tale of Passion, Secrets, and Redemption
Morgan and Roman’s story is a captivating blend of tension, vulnerability, and undeniable chemistry. From the first pages, I was hooked by the high-stakes world of courtroom battles, intricate hacking, and the emotional complexities of two brilliant but guarded individuals.
Roman Hamilton, a commanding attorney known for his meticulous strategies and ironclad control, finds his life turned upside down when he crosses paths with Morgan Ashley. A gifted private investigator and elite hacker, Morgan brings a mysterious edge that complements Roman’s unrelenting drive. Their dynamic is electric, with Roman’s relentless pursuit of justice—and Morgan—challenged by her refusal to let anyone past her carefully constructed walls.
The story dives deep into themes of trust, vulnerability, and the risks of love. Roman’s journey from power-hungry litigator to someone willing to fight for Morgan’s heart is both compelling and heartfelt. Meanwhile, Morgan’s growth—learning to open up after a lifetime of self-reliance and secrecy—is equally moving.
The narrative is rich with sharp dialogue, steamy tension, and a plot that balances emotional depth with action-packed intrigue. The courtroom drama and investigative twists add a thrilling backdrop to their evolving relationship.
Morgan and Roman’s differences make them all the more perfect together. Their banter crackles with wit, and their chemistry is undeniable. This is a story of two strong-willed individuals discovering that love is not a weakness but a strength worth embracing.
For fans of romance with a touch of suspense and characters who leap off the page, this book is an absolute must-read.
I absolutely loved Roman and Morgan’s story it just captures your heart from the very first moment they met one another.
Morgan is a PI and was on assignment on a tropical island and when she was there she met a rugged handsome lawyer called Roman Hamilton who was very demanding and would blow Morgan’s cover if she did do what he asked of her.
Roman and his two brothers Julian and Parker are attending a wedding when they see a beautiful woman on the beach taking photos of her clients husband and mistress and she was in the eyeline of three men. A few days pass and they kept bumping into one another. While they were together Roman received a call from his office regarding a case the judge moved it up so they needed Morgan to hack into this person’s financial records and send them to Roman.
When Morgan arrived home her uncle was there and met with her client and gave her every detail of her husband’s infidelity. Morgan arrived home to receive a phone call from a number she didn’t recognize. Upon answering it, it was Roman Hamilton looking for her to assist her in a trial he took pro bono. That was bringing her back to a place she hasn’t been able to go back in 14 years because of her dad’s murder.
I could go on but I don’t want to ruin it because it’s a magnificent story and I and so looking forward to Julian’s story with Laurel in Cause of Effect. Sandi five stars is not enough I give this book a ten
What another fabulous story involving 3 brothers raised in a unique way. Playboys and attorneys working at the law firm their father started. Roman, Julian and Parker Hamilton. None of them believes in relationships and are “one night stand” guys. That is until Ramon sees Morgan Ashley.
They first meet in the Turks and Caicos, the brothers there for a friend’s wedding. Morgan for work, a private investigator, working on catching a cheating husband.
Roman pursues her while there, he finally convinces her to spend the evening together. They part ways, but he can’t get Morgan out of his thoughts. He is back in LA and Morgan in NY. Roman has taken a murder case pro bono and after seeing Morgan in action, hires her to come to LA to prove his client did not murder his girlfriend.
Morgan had not been back to LA for 14 years, since her father died. A mystery that she has kept and only one person knows. Roman agrees on her terms for taking the job.
Again, sparks fly! What really made it enjoyable and a surprise was when members of the Kind family appear. Not a requirement to read the Kind series, but I would recommend reading first. I read the entire series and loved their stories. Now I have the Hamilton series and am loving them!!
Thank you, Sandi!! Looking forward to Julian’s story.
Book was so good. I felt in love by the third chapter. Are you someone that loves romance mixed with a little bit of detective🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️ then you’re gonna love this book. Morgan is an investigator/hacker and Roman is a lawyer. They have a one night stand in Turks Roman can’t stop thinking about Morgan and uses that and ask her if she would help him investigate a pro bono case (yes it was just an excuse to get her to come to LA) to prove that a man is innocent, but all of the evidence points towards him, but Roman and his gut knows that this man is innocent and after Morgan meets him she gets the same gut feeling of course the first night she’s back. He comes to visit her at her hotel, and I don’t have to tell you what they end up doing again and again and again.❤️🔥 That’s not the only case they solve together something I really love about this book is that there was no dragging the love story on and there was not much of a break up they both kind of came to the reality that they’re both in love. you’ll have to read for more.
So I am a fan of Sandi Lynn and was excited to hear of her new series. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of the book and was so glad I did. I loved this story! Roman and Morgan are absolutely burning the pages from their first meeting on vacation. I can say that he falls first and she is tough as nails. Roman is a womanizing lawyer and he has brothers that also love the ladies. Morgan is a hacker and private investigator that has tons of secrets. Their vacation interactions are rocky at best, but reunite to work together on a case. There's a lot of heated and steamy moments between them, but also a lot of resistance about being together from both of them. There are some unexpected surprises that kept me reading. I love that it's the first in a series, because there is more to come. If you love Sandi's novels, you'll really enjoy the cameos of a couple of Kind Family characters. If you're new to her writing, this is a great introduction. It was so good. Can't Wait for book two.
A lovely new exciting series about Three Hamilton brothers, who are lawyers. We start with the trio on holiday following the wedding of a friend at their destination. Roman, Parker and Julian are their names and this particular book is about Roman. His interest is peaked by the stunning beauty Morgan and her strange behaviour observing a couple. It transpires she is a private detective on a job of a wife checking out the habits of her cheating husband, who doesn’t know it but is paying for the penthouse treatment. The two cross paths and a wonderfully imaginative story unfolds, of romance, drama, total intrigue and suspense. There attempt twists and turns and the story cascades through a beautiful woven story of murder, mistrust, devotion and magical moments. Previous characters make cameo appearances, and it’s super to catch up with them. A great escape from the drudges of real life, and a fantastic HEA, leading nicely into the next storyline of a character called Laurel, and Julian.
Roman meets Morgan while he’s on vacation and she’s working as a private investigator and he asks her out and she declines his offer so he does what any spoilt rich man would do and threatens to expose her to her mark, she ends up agreeing and they spend the night together. She goes back to New York, he goes back to LA and he can’t stop thinking about her so he calls her and employs her for a case he took on, she goes to LA and works for his law firm and they continue to see each other, we also meet quite a few of the Kind family which was a lovely surprise. Anyway, they fall for each other and with a few hiccups along the way they get together. This book was amazing, I love the love story but the suspense part of the story is why you won’t be able to put this book down. I highly recommend you read this book and I’m so excited for the next instalment. Definitely worth the 5 stars 🌟
3.5 stars A brothers’ series, much like the Kind brothers series. And look, they know and like and interact with the Kind brothers! Three brothers, all lawyers in their own firm. T he eir dad was a philanderer and each brother has a different mother, but the brothers are only months apart. Their mothers all live in the same neighborhood. They threw out the philanderer and became co-moms to the boys. Philandering dads seem to be a Sandi Lynn thing, although never with her leading men. Well, a one night stand has brother Roman using Morgan’s PI credentials on a case. And then another case. Slowly he falls. He falls first. She’s very non-trusting and scared. You’ll see why when you read the book. Because I liked the Kind series and this is much like that one, I liked this book quite a bit. Looking forward to the next brother’s story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
the execution just felt kind of "brainless" to me, and by brainless i don't mean stupid. i felt like the entire execution was way too smooth sailing, like for example - everything is going as per what the heroine has predicted when she was doing investigation. where is the mystery?
additionally, i think the author was rather lazy to come up with names. the dead character was name "grace", a side character's wife was also "grace". the hero's name is "roman", then the hero mentioned one of the character has a friend who is also named "roman". like come on, is the author that freaking lazy that she can't pick a different name? honestly, even the writing felt lazy which is probably why i felt the execution is brainless.
The book was well written. You know going in this is a "HEA" book. So it's kind of "fluffy". Although for a " fluffy" book the characters had a little " grit" to them that made them more believable. The book missed the natural point for ending in the plotline twice. The extension of the story was unnecessary, as was the segway into the other brother's story. Both the " ending " of the book and the teaser of the next book could have been covered in the next book. These things slowed down the plotline and delayed the ending . Which was a waste of time that directly affected the amount of satisfaction this book for me. It's still a good read but long winded like this review.
This is a wonderful start to a new series. Hamilton Group is a law firm in LA that 3 brothers run. Roman meet Morgan on an island where he is attending a wedding with his brothers and Morgan is there as a PI tracking a husband of a client. What started as one night, evolves to Roman hiring her to work on a case. Morgan leaves NY and goes to LA 14 yrs after she left. When Morgan is very successful with her work, Roman wants to hire her. Will she take the job? Will the king of one night stands be tamed by Morgan? We LA become her home again?
Really enjoyable story. A few appearances of the Kind family members. Recommended
A new series of brothers by Sandi Lynn. This was a very familiar read to her Kind Brothers series and they were mentioned as friends and some of the characters were in this book which I really liked. I also like the mysteries in this read and how they were solved fast. Roman and his two brothers are at a wedding in the Turks and Caicos. They meet Morgan who is a PI and there investigating a cheating husband. Roman is attracted to her. Then when he returns to LA he hires her to investigate a case for him. She also has left LA fourteen years ago after her father was murdered. This was a fast enjoyable read.
A highly engaging romance with characters full of personality, as always. Sandi delivers a story that, once again, we can’t put down until we finish it. Roman Hamilton and Morgan are like two sides of the same coin, and at first, the challenge of their mutual attraction is the driving force of the story. However, as the suspenseful events within the law firm unfold, they take center stage and pull us in as if we were watching an action movie. I loved the brief appearances of the Kind family and am incredibly curious about the upcoming books in this intriguing new series!
Loved this book. Couldn't put it down. This book introduces the Hamilton brothers . They are a group of defense lawyers. The story is about Roman who is trying to prove his client is innocent. He hires Morgan who is a professional investigator and hacker. They have great chemistry and that leads to a great love story. Morgan has a past she needs to overcome and that is a story in itself. The Kind brothers also appear in the book. Roman's brother Julian is a great character and I can't wait for his story.
Hold on for this action packed, interesting, drama filled court cases, and cocky attorneys. The arrogance of these three brothers who think no female can turn them down, yet they have yet to meet that one to knock them down a notch. The PI they meet is smart, excellent at her job, has secrets from her past, and she is a force to be reckoned with. Awesome story, expect the unexpected, learn to see through the eyes of others, and enjoy the journey with your partner. Beautiful exciting story. Loved it.
Whenever I read a book by Sandi Lynn I know it’s going to be awesome. Cause of Action is no different. I was hooked from the first chapter. Oliver and Morgan were explosive between the sheets as well as the pages. Also the cameos of my favorite Kind men made this story that much more special. For a man who never wanted to settle down, from the first time Oliver met Morgan he was hooked. When you find your one it doesn’t matter the time or the place. Oliver and Morgan are the first book in this incredible series. I cannot wait for more.
I love your writing, but with that being said I love the Hamilton Brothers Series. All three men Roman, Julian and Parker were the same lawyers, single playboys and available. First up was Roman in Turk and Cacos for a friends wedding. Roman meets a woman and she appears to be taking pictures. Morgan was a Private Investigator and a Hacker. She end up helping him with a case and he offers her a job. But they are attracted to one another. This story is good and funny and suspenseful. You will love it if your a fan of Sandi Lynn.
Excellent book! I absolutely love Morgan's attitude! She is exactly the kind of woman I can truly admire! Now I have a new favorite author! I am anxious to read the next book in this series! Just a side comment about Roman--- . He said something to Morgan that I personally found unforgivable I would have walked out and never had anything to do with him ever again, but that's just me! For the sake of this wonderful story the author wrote this book the best way!!
This is a great story and I thoroughly enjoyed Morgan and Roman. They were perfect for each other but it took a while for them both to be convinced. There was humor, intrigue, and lots of hot, fun passion.
The writer made the story enjoyable with the camaraderie of the three Hamilton brothers and their "moms". The courthouse drama and several interesting cases added a great background to a story that left me wanting more of the brothers stories.
A woman private investigator who is in the Caribbean checking up on a cheating husband meets a lawyer who tried to hit on her. After turning him down, she later sees him in the dining room. He tries hitting on her again. She eventually has what she thinks is a one-night stand with the lawyer. Back in NYC, she gets a call from the lawyer requesting she come to L.A. to do some work for the law firm he owns with his two brothers. She agrees and things happen to change both of their lives while she is there.
What a terrific read. The story kept me spellbound until the very last page. Revealing all the twists and turns in the cases the brothers worked on as well as the dynamics of their strange family composition only made the story more interesting. Bringing in the Kind family was a great surprise. Can't await for the tension and laughter I'm sure well get from book two.
I have to admit i was concerned this was another repeat book. 3 brothers who live on the beach, a cheating dad, meeting the lady on vacation. This seemed like the same story as the Kind brothers.
Story was good hoping the others branch out a bit and get more action or twists.
If you loved Kind brothers then you will love this as some make appearances.
Another amazing start to a new series, The Hamilton Brothers all three same dad three mom's,who they call the mom's! First book Roman and Morgan what an amazing couple they are meant to be together stubborn at first but are meant to be in a relationship. This book is outstanding him a lawyer her a hacker able to help each other, don't want to give anything away but this series is a Five Star must read! As always you rock Sandi Lynn!
Sandi Lynn has done it again. I love all her books and this one is no exception.
Roman and Morgan danced around each other since they had a one nighter in Turks and Caicos. But their every denial was shattered when Roman was kidnapped by the very man who murdered Morgan's father and being the person she is she went in and along with Simon Kind, they were able to bring down the man who happened to be an FBI agent.
