Rate this book
At long last, the wedding day has arrived.

The Jinn queen and the enigmatic ruler of Tulan are to be married in a magical, enchanted ceremony—but Cyrus, tethered by a blood oath to his bride-to-be, can find nothing to celebrate in this union. He’s falling ever more deeply in love with the one person oathbound to kill him.

Sworn to an ancient, unbreakable magic, Alizeh can only fulfill the prophecy to free her people by ensuring Cyrus dies by her own hand. And Cyrus is forced to await his end all while Prince Kamran inches closer, ready to take his place by Alizeh’s side.

The countdown to murder coils tensions ever tighter, but the historic wedding has already drawn deadly attention. To prepare for war and protect her people, Alizeh must finally discover her magic—and outrun the enemies trying to stop her.

Alizeh and Cyrus, along with Kamran and their friends from Ardunia, must flee on dragon-back to begin the perilous journey into the legendary mountains of Arya, where a firestorm of revelations, magical discoveries, and fresh allies awaits them. Every allegiance will be tested, every darkness uncovered, and when the shattering secrets of the Tulanian king are finally revealed . . .

Nothing, and no one, will be the same.

4.5 stars ★

the absolute best book in the series so far. i was a bit scared before going into this one because, up until this point, the most "plot-worthy" moments have happened in book 1 and book 1 alone and there's a limit to how far you can stretch a series with 400+ pages in each book based purely on vibes and characters (not that i don't adore them with everything in me).

but i'm so happy that at least some things happened in this one 😭🙏🏻 (had it been even more plot-driven, i would've given it 5 stars).

truly, that's the only issue i have with this series as a whole. i know some people appreciate just reading about the characters and the vibes for an entire book, but as much as i enjoy that, if we take out all the plot points from this entire series, they would barely add up to 200 pages on their own. the rest is pure yearning and emotion. i just wish there was more plot.

anyhow, the yearning in this one was insane. no man has ever yearned for someone the way cyrus yearns for alizeh. it's just page upon page, chapter upon chapter, paragraph upon paragraph of my man being absolutely baffled and gone for alizeh 😭😭😭 (he needs therapy).

the writing in this book is absolutely gorgeous, and i want to take a moment to appreciate it because no one does. i love how it’s so flowery, yet it doesn’t make the story less digestible or harder to read. instead, it adds to the mythical persian setting and the emotions of the characters.

one of my favourite parts was alizeh mentioning her parents, and i think half the beauty was in how it was written - handled with so much care and love. which brings me to another favourite part: alizeh. she’s genuinely such an amazing fmc, and more people need to know that !! i know we all yearn for cyrus, but my girl deserves just as much appreciation (if not more).

most fmc’s are either portrayed as badass, cool girls who couldn’t care less or as kind girlies who let the entire world walk over them. alizeh is neither. she’s so kind, and instead of letting the world harden her heart, she’s learned to be even more compassionate - but she still doesn’t let anyone take advantage of her. i love how much she cares about everything. i don’t blame anyone for being so gone for her. she’s such an amazing queen and, more importantly, a wonderful, kind, caring character to read about. i, too, would lay down my life for her.

hazan the man that you are 🛐 since i have no chance of ever getting a cyrus, i would like me a hazan, please. i love how he built this camaraderie and friendship with cyrus, and his loyalty toward alizeh 😭😭😭 it brings me to my knees. .

cyrus ... what can i even say about him. i have no words. my dusty moth 😭😭😭 every time i think he couldn’t be more perfect, he proves me wrong. to be honest, i’m kind of done with mmc’s who are cold and emotionless, so it’s refreshing to see him care so deeply about his people, his country, his family, alizeh, his animals 😭🌸 my beloved. he may appear cold on the outside, but he genuinely FEELS so much about everything (which i think is part of why he’s such a good diviner because he’s so deeply connected to everything).

his past left me gaping, in shambles, crying on the floor. i will fight everyone with everything in me. he deserves THE ENTIRE WORLD at his feet.

kamran pmo so bad 👹 i can’t even talk about him without getting angry. lmfao i loved the shut-up calls he got near the end 🙏🏻

that being said, for fuck’s sake, can kamran, huda, omid, and deen leave alizeh and cyrus alone for ONE SECOND so they can talk? they’re genuinely so annoying sometimes - constantly interrupting, not letting anyone speak or make their own decisions, just bombarding people with words. it drives me CRAZY. they all need a bitch slap and a lesson in basic manners.

anyhow, tahereh, please let cyrus and alizeh be together 24/7 in the 5th book, thank you.

some favourite moments (where i lost my mind):
- alizeh yearning for cyrus from the start
- alizeh sewing a dress for cyrus (i was in tears).
- the animals coming to check up on cyrus.
- the flowers cyrus grew in honor of alizeh being literally everywhere 😭🌸
- cyrus in a towel 🧍🏻‍♀️
- alizeh yearning for cyrus while he was in a towel
- the alizeh/cyrus conversation about the dress she sewed for him that had me dying
- cyrus being baffled seeing alizeh in her wedding dress
- the vows
- i do (HALLELUJAH WE WON LADS)
- huda calling out kamran (the only thing i like about her)
- when cyrus had to sit near the sofa so he said "i beg your pardon" before touching alizeh's dress to move it out of the way (A REAL MAN I TELL YOU ALL)
- cyrus being a badass with his magic
- cyrus carrying alizeh
- alizeh forcing the queen to apologize to huda (MY GIRL’S GIRL)
- alizeh’s speech to the army
- dusty moth 😭😭😭
- the single room 👹
- cyrus’s confession I DIED. did you guys know that no man has ever loved a woman the way he loves her 😭😭😭💔
- cyrus’s past (tears and more tears) and us finally understanding everything
- alizeh remembering her parents
- cyrus laughing 😭 (and alizeh simping over it)
- name dropping of all the books
- the door not opening for kamran (big yes)
- cyrus not even knocking on the door, just going near it and the door ABSOLUTELY SHATTERING. aura level: infinity 😭😭😭😭🛐🛐🛐
- "what do you know of sacrifice" ate 1000 times over
- alizeh talking to cyrus using her powers 😭😭😭💞
- cyrus telling the gang everything (i died pt. 65).
- alizeh being a badass with the devil and defeating him 🛐🛐🛐🛐
- THE LAST CHAPTER BECAUSE THANK GOD FOR THAT.

genuine reaction for the entirety of the book:

anyhow, i need the next book asap. i love aaron, but tahereh please - we don’t need release me right now, WE NEED BOOK 5 FIRST!!

Hearts Entangled, Thrones Contested, and Destiny Set Aflame!

The Cursed King. The Jinn Queen
One throne. One prophecy. One hell of a spiral.
Will love conquer what magic demands?
Or will destiny claim its final, fatal sacrifice!?

💥WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS GLORIOUS MELTDOWN:(and barely survive):

📍Welcome back to Ardunia, where the politics are bloody and the love triangles are a criminal offense.
🕌 Ancient prophecies, royal betrayals, and tension so hot it might set the scrolls on fire
👀 Forbidden longing? Check.
🥀 Enemies-to-lovers-to-actually-I’d-burn-the-kingdom-for-you—.

TWO. RINGS. ON. THE. COVER.
💍 "The moment we've ALL been waiting for" 💍
Somebody’s either getting married or cursed—or BOTH, knowing Tahereh Mafi 😭
Either way? I’ve already planned the reception and emotionally prepared my toast. "To trauma, prophecy, and kissing under dragonfire—cheers!" 🥂

📌 Two rings. Two destinies. Too much tension.
Someone is about to tie the knot or tie the noose—either way, I am unwell.

📌 Alizeh: Jinn queen, ultimate slayer of thrones and expectations. She's been patient. She's been kind. But now? She's done. She’s here to collect what’s hers—kingdom, vengeance, and maybe... a certain cursed boy’s heart.

📌 Cyrus: The fire king with a prophecy problem and an “I want you but I shouldn’t” complex. Still emotionally constipated. Still dramatically loyal. And YES, still rocking his “I have dragons”era🐉
🥱 And Kamran? Still brooding in the corner with his heartbreak and a sword.I care less 💅🏻
📌 Betrayal? ✔️
📌 Wedding daggers? ✔️
📌 Possibly kissing with blood on their mouths and magic in the air? ✔️✔️✔️
📌 Wedding... or war? That’s between the rings and the tears.

📌 Dragons? Real. Judgy. Probably matchmaking.🐉 The DRAGONS??? They’re not hiding. They’re soaring. And you KNOW what that means—Arya is calling. The final flight is near. The war? Inevitable. The prophecy? Incoming.

📌That “I shouldn’t love you but I do and it’s destroying me” ENERGY
📌 Wedding chaos?? Villain redemption arc?? Teary reunions?? YES. TO. EVERYTHING 👰🏼‍♀️ Wedding in the skies?? FLOATING wedding???!! Their ceremony is literally above the earth, the symbolism is choking me.
📌The Diviners are marking Alizeh as more than one of their own. She’s not just marrying a king—she’s becoming something greater.
📌One final choice: love or legacy? (Oh no. Not again. I’M NOT READY.)

💌 SNEAK PEEK SCREAMING SECTION:

"Cyrus had been stunned when he’d first learned their ceremony was to be elevated into the skies; he’d not known until this morning what Alizeh had arranged for their wedding.
Indeed, he’d expected so little from the day that it never occurred to him he might encounter the spectacular...
"

“His bride.
His wife.”

STOP. I am unwell. That’s it. That’s the post.

"They knew.
They knew something Cyrus did not... that the Diviners were marking her as one of their own.
No—
Something more than that."

-Tahereh, you did that. You dropped that lines and walked away and I’m still Screaming!!✋🏻😭

“He could smell the honeyed fragrance of her hair... she was so beautiful he wished fervently to be blinded.”
“He closed his eyes.”
“He’d not known until this morning what Alizeh had arranged for their wedding.”

YOU GUYS. This isn’t just a royal ceremony.
Alizeh literally told the Diviners to launch her and Cyrus into the SKY with magic and diamonds like they’re celestial soulmates. Like—
“Pin her to the heavens like a newborn star.”
WHAT IS THIS?? A fairytale?? A fever dream?? A wedding sent straight from the jinn realm??? Because I'M GONE.

And Cyrus? That poor man was in pain every second she stood close. Someone give this boy a love poem and a nap. Preferably next to his wife.

📌 FINAL WORDS:

I am not calm.
I repeat: I am not calm.
Because after three books of tension, betrayal, destiny, daggers-to-the-throat metaphors, slow burns and soul-piercing stares, we're getting the endgame. And if you think I'm ready for what Alizeh and Cyrus are about to go through? I’m not. But I’m showing up anyway, in full wedding regalia.

If they don’t get married for real—if we don’t get the ultimate Jinn x Human royal fusion wedding with dragons and veils and magic bursting from the sky—I will hex the moon.

📢 Manifestation moment:

Dear Tahereh-🕯️
Please give the villain his jinn girl.
Please give us our floating wedding.
Please make the two rings on the cover mean what we think they mean.
We are manifesting, screaming, making edits in advance. Just say the word. 🪬🌙💘

“THEY BETTER ENDGAME.”
Cyrus and Alizeh forever. Or else.

I’ve already RSVP’d.
I’ve designed the Pinterest board.
And if this ends in tears (mine, theirs, everyone’s)? So be it.

Bring it, Mafi. I’m seated. I’m screaming. And I’ve already made edits of their wedding with dragons as flower girl💐

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ I don’t think there’s a single person left on this planet who hasn’t heard me rant, rave, and lose my entire mind over this series since the moment I first picked it up. And yes, before anyone asks, the only reason this review is fashionably late is because my physical copy kept getting delayed...and I refused, on principle, to write this review before I was able to reread this book in a form that is printed, bound, and able to sit dramatically on my shelf.
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ Now that we’ve survived my deeply fascinating logistical struggles, let me just say this: Every Spiral of Fate was the experience of my year. Possibly of my life. I’m still not over it, even a bit over two months after my first read-through. The world is lush and vivid, dripping with cultural detail so rich you practically fall headfirst into it. The characters have carved out permanent homes in my heart, rent-free, and I doubt I’ll ever recover. The romance? Everything. Absolutely everything. And the story itself, its magic, its intensity, the way it unfolds on the page...is nothing short of breathtaking.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ In summary: worth every minute of screaming, waiting, rereading, and obsessing.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ “He felt there were too many queens in this world; none of them her equal. She deserved a title entirely her own.”

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍˗ˏˋ★‿︵‧ ˚ ₊⊹ honest thoughts
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ⋅ ☾ Let me start by saying this: the action in this book absolutely ate. After the slower pacing of book two, and especially the dragging, borderline-exhausting tempo of book three, this one felt like a breath of fresh, magical air. The action scenes were sharp, vivid, and brilliantly structured. Every confrontation, every chase, every spike of tension was crafted so well that I genuinely didn’t notice how fast I was turning pages. One second I’d just started; the next I was somehow already halfway through and fully consumed. It was engaging, cinematic, and honestly a pretty strong element of the entire book.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ⋅ ☾ And speaking of strengths, the writing remains one of the most beautiful aspects of this series. The imagery is so rich and evocative that it practically lifts you out of your chair and drops you straight into the scene. Everything is described with such vibrancy that it feels almost cinematic, and there's this enchanting mix of magical atmosphere woven with strong Eastern and Persian influences that gives the world such a unique cultural depth. The whole setting is lush, warm, immersive; a fantasy world that actually feels lived in. I adored every bit of that authenticity and style.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ⋅ ☾ Now, what truly made this book stand out for me was the subtle but brilliant reversal of roles between Cyrus and Alizeh. In books two and three, Cyrus is practically the poster boy for yearning. He is on-edge, vulnerable (but hides it incredibly well), desperate for scraps of affection, wearing his feelings like an open wound...he is basically DOWN BAD. Meanwhile, Alizeh is the picture of confusion and hesitation. But here? Everything shifts. Cyrus remains his tortured, longing self, but suddenly it’s Alizeh who becomes restless, needy, craving his presence. She starts realizing—really realizing—her feelings for him, and her denial fades into this quiet, relentless desire to understand him, to be close to him, to protect him.
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ Seeing her go from conflicted to desperately drawn in was incredibly satisfying. She becomes tense in his presence, restless without him, constantly thinking about him, noticing him, seeking him. The seductive thoughts she tries (and fails) to suppress, the way she gravitates toward him even when she knows she shouldn’t...it was all so well done. Meanwhile Cyrus, the man who spent two books emotionally bleeding for her, suddenly turns colder, more distant, more closed-off. And that contrast pushes her straight into clarity. She stops pretending. She stops running. She starts choosing him actively, consciously, repeatedly.
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ Honestly, I loved that shift. It made her feelings feel real, earned, and finally grounded. And you just know that when they'll both eventually crack and admit everything....the scene is going to be feral. Beautiful. Absolutely explosive.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ⋅ ☾ That being said...I cannot lie: Alizeh also quite annoyed the life out of me in this book. I love her strength, her softness, her inherent grace, but her passivity? Her constant indecision? The way she keeps floating between choices instead of actually making any? Maddening. She can stand before her entire people with power and confidence, yet when it comes to Cyrus, or literally any personal decision, she folds into confusion again.
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ If she said “It’s not that simple” one more time, I swear I was going to start screaming. It is simple. Be honest. Own your feelings. Stop hiding behind excuses when the truth is obvious. She feels nothing real for Kamran. She knows this. We know this. Her internal monologue knows this. So why can’t she say it out loud? Why can’t she take charge for once and stop dancing around it? I get that she’s overwhelmed and carrying more than any one person should, but her emotional avoidance was exhausting. Half the time I wanted to grab her by the shoulders, shake her gently, and say: “Just tell Cyrus the truth. Take the risk. You’re not fooling anyone, least of all yourself.”

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ⋅ ☾ Now, let’s talk about the romance, because this book truly delivers something otherworldly. I’m not exaggerating when I say this might be one of my favorite romances ever written. It’s profound, intoxicating, and it burns with a depth that goes far beyond physicality. In fact, the sheer lack of overtly physical moments somehow makes everything feel even more powerful; like every glance, every breath, every near-touch is loaded with meaning. It’s loyal. It’s consuming. It’s magnetic in a way that feels almost ancient. And honestly, I can say with full confidence: no one can pick up this series and come out unaffected. You will lose your mind over how good this romance is. It’s inevitable.
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ Is it frustrating at times? Absolutely. Does the slow-burn pacing sometimes feel aggressively, torturously slow? Without a doubt. But that’s exactly the beauty of it. The yearning is astronomical. The pining is somehow even worse. And the quiet, steady love that blooms despite every obstacle is so gorgeously crafted that I genuinely struggle to find the right words for it. It’s pure, breathtaking magic.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ⋅ ☾ The of this book? Honestly, it’s good. And look, I’ll admit it, I am a bit of a literary masochist, so a darker, more tragic ending would’ve absolutely destroyed me in the best possible way. But even so, I can genuinely appreciate the ending we did get. It has this subtle, almost deceptive calm to it the kind of conclusion that doesn’t immediately scream cliff-hanger, yet somehow leaves your brain spiraling the moment you close the book. You finish the last page thinking, “Oh, that wasn’t so bad after all” and then two minutes later your mind starts firing off questions like rapid shots. And once the curiosity hits? Yeah… you’re done for. You’ll be begging for the next book before you even realize it.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍˗ˏˋ★‿︵‧ ˚ ₊⊹ characters

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ 💫 Alizeh — This is probably the first book where I genuinely started seeing real progress and evolution in Alizeh as a character. She’s so much more active—finally making decisions, defending and protecting the people she loves, and taking charge of her own future. She still has that innocence and purity that make her so lovable, but now we also get glimpses of a revengeful, determined, and imposing Alizeh who shows just how powerful she truly is. Sure, we could’ve done with a bit less of that lingering indecisiveness, but she’s still an absolute sweetheart. And seeing her thirsting over her husband? A blessing 😩

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ 💫 Cyrus — At this point I don’t even know what else I can say to express my undying, immense love for him as a character. If you thought for even a second that you understood him after book three and you felt sad for him...just wait. This book will destroy you. It will take your heart, crush it, and leave it bleeding in pure pity for this man. Learning the truth about him and reading about his real past was honestly torture in the most beautiful way. I don’t even want to elaborate because I feel like it would take away from the experience of discovering him in this book yourself. He’s just an angel...a very, very, very hot one.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ 💫 Hazan — God, I adore him with all my heart. Seeing him defend Cyrus and actually build a bond with him was one of the best things to come out of this book. I was completely in love with his loyalty and his friendship. I just love him so much. I hope he gets the happiest ending imaginable.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ 💫 Kamran — Still hate his ass.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ 💫 Akbar — And a special shoutout to the true MVP of this entire series—the best character to ever come out of it—Akbar. I need to see more of him in the next books.

ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍˗ˏˋ★‿︵‧ ˚ ₊⊹ should you read this?
ㅤ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ ‍‍‍‍‍‍ I am not saying you should definitely, absolutely and certainly read this book and experience the pain, the magic and the sheer beauty of this imaginary world....but just know that if I recommend you this book and you do not read it, I am literally going to find out where you live, come in the night and knock on your window continuously, looking down at you with utter madness in my eyes, holding this book in my arms and demanding you start reading it right then and there.

4.5⭐️ i have read over 600 books in my life and i have NEVER read about a man who YEARNSSSSS as much as cyrus. NEVER. he is truly unmatched

⚠️⚠️⚠️SPOILERS⚠️⚠️⚠️

this book was soooo close to a 5⭐️ I LOVED IT. the thing that kept it from it was the fact that for the ENTIRE book CYRUS AND ALIZEH COULD NOT GET A MOMENT ALONE they had like 1 conversation together and it was making me sooooo frustrated. and even in the conservations they did have, they didn't talk about anything without cyrus leaving or someone interrupting 😭😭😭😭

i was just a little sad because i thought this was going to be a heavy cyrus-alizeh book and i feel like they had no alone time :( with the way the last book ended with the blood oath that made them have to be near eachother & the marriage i was SOOOOO EXCITED bc i thought they were gonna have to be around eachother all the time no matter what, but i feel like we got even less of them in this book than in books 2&3 ☹️

AND THE FACT THAT WE ARE GOING INTO BOOK 5 WITH STILL NO KISS. JAIL.

things i loved random comments:
-CYRUS IS THE LOML. truly. top 10 (maybe top 5) book boyfriends (husbands) of a time WITH A DOUBTTTTT
-just the way cyrus thinks about alizeh 🥹
-CYRUS'S LOVE CONFESSION 😭😭😭😭😭 it was SO GOOD and i HATEEEE how it was brushed over!!!!! like come on!!!!
-i LOVE alizeh, i love that girl so much. i do wish she had made more of an effort to tell cyrus how she feels but the girl had a lot on her plate, i'll give her a break
-all of the animals and insects coming to look for cyrus when he wasn't well😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
-kamran. kamran, kamran, kamran. this boy PISSED ME OFFFFFFFF in this book so so so much. i swear he was so much worse in this book than in the others. his obsession with alizeh and him calling her his real wife and talking about their future kids IN FRONT OF CYRUS 🤢😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒 i wanted to punch him for almost this entire book. that being said, i don't hate him and him and huda are FOR SURE endgame
-huda was kinda annoying me in this book a little too for the same reason of always being so mean to cyrus 😭
-HAZAN❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ oh how i love you. i'm terrified he is going to die in the next book for some reason but he better not because i love him SO much
-also i adored hazan and cyrus' friendship in this book

Cyrus yearns so beautifully, it almost overshadows the fact, that this book isn't even pretending to have a plot

-♾️ aura when Cyrus saw that there was only 1 bed and he decided to sleep standing up by the door fully clothed. (WITH THE BOOTS STILL ON) I mean, that's taking the "don't worry I'll sleep on the floor" a bit too far. Don't you agree buddy?

Anyway, my heart is bleeding out on the ground 💔 I might never recover.
This book was not plot driven in my opinion. I think that the author used Cyrus and Alizeh's VERY intense emotions to move the plot along. That in turn, kept my eyes GLUED to the page because some of their thoughts/feeling were just too juicy. There were chapters upon chapters dedicated to yearning. Think I'm exaggerating? Trust me, I'm not.

Personally, I would have been perfectly happy with reading 500 pages of pure yearning. But this book actually picked up the plot at the very end. The lead up was all emotion and no plot, but by the end it was heavy on the plot and all the prophecy stuff.

I want to talk about Alizeh for a second. She's unlike any main character I've ever read. Props to the author for making her strong, but not heartless, "the chosen one," without being pick me, and kind, without letting people walk all over her. Let's also take a second to acknowledge how drop dead gorgeous she is. If I were Cyrus, I would also be in love with her.

Here's the moment we've all been waiting for. Cyrus. My baby. Nobody loves him like I do. Not Tahereh Mafi making me fall in love with a ginger. 👨🏼‍🦰 I thought it'd never happen, but here we are.
I've never read a man that yearns like Cyrus, and I'm certain that no one will surpass him. There were some lines that were physically painful. ❤️‍🩹 At some points I did think that it was a BIT much. Like calm down my love, you don't need to wish you were dead because she's too beautiful to look at. Or maybe you do. Idk. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Regardless of what I think about this book, this series should be 100% be read. I'm telling you, every aspect of this series just hits the spot.

You all are never going to believe this. I think I need the next book ✦IMMEDIATELY✦. I know. How shocking.

I also need me and Tahereh Mafi locked in a room together where I can have a polite conversation with her.

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ I should like to start this review by applauding my Jinn Queen, Alizeh. I am willing to fight both Cyrus and Kamran for the right to marry her.

Me, Alizeh. LOOK AT ME. Men are overrated. They will disappoint you one day. BUT I WON’T. I can treat you better than they will.

I genuinely have no words to describe how in awe of her I am.

Just because she feels too deeply, cries too easily, and treats people sincerely, it’s very easy to forget that when it comes down to it, she will choose head over heart. She will ruthlessly cut down her enemies. If you hurt those she cares about, her tender heart will turn fatal without hesitation.

“𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙚,” 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙨𝙤𝙛𝙩𝙡𝙮. “𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙧.”

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ Cyrus.

He’s a bit of a tender spot for me at this moment. I hope, I wish, I desperately pray he is alright. He is alright… right? I mean, no way this series would have a sad ending.

…Right?

RIGHT.

My boy Cyrus in this book was definitely one of the most broody, melodramatic, self-pitying characters I’ve ever read. And I get it. I do. Imagine marrying the love of your life knowing she’s going to kill you soon and marry another man. Yes, I feel for him.

But also. His inner monologue. Like wow. My guy. He—

No but truly, he yearns and longs for her with an intensity that feels medically concerning. Sometimes when I read his chapters, I’m like: awwwww that's my husband right there.
And other days I’m like: …darling, maybe you should see a doctor?

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ And look. It’s the way he’s literally in pain just looking at her. And I’m thinking: MAYBE YOU ARE SICK?

Are you ILL, love? Because there is no way you’re in physical agony simply because you gazed upon a woman.

“𝙎𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙨𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚 𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙙, 𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙨𝙬𝙞𝙛𝙩 𝙙𝙖𝙜𝙜𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙩.”

Tell me. Does this sound normal to you? NO, right? He wants to die because she’s too beautiful!

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ It’s almost adorable how he completely loses his mind whenever she cries:

“𝙋𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥,” 𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙, 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙧. “𝙄 𝙗𝙚𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 —𝙄’𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨—”

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ And the way he gets utterly destroyed when she looks at him or tries to speak to him:

“𝘿𝙤 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣. 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙧𝙪𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙚 𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙮,” 𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙, 𝙣𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜. “𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙨𝙝 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣. 𝙄 𝙗𝙚𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙩𝙤 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧. 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙢𝙚 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙮 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙞𝙛 𝙄 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙩.”

So yes. My point is: he is intensely, unhinged-ly obsessed with her. And it is absolutely terrible for his health.

Reading some of these scenes, I genuinely felt like I was intruding.

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ As for the ROMANCE, how to put it politely? The slowburn was definitely slowburn-ing. See. There are books marketed as "slowburn" but the character kiss at 25%. And then there's this. We are four books deep. Four. There was forced proximity in this book. Only one bed in only one very small room in the sky. And the most scandalous thing that happened is Cyrus touching Alizeh's cheek.

oh but fear not! As always Kamran was there to save the day. He routinely held Alizeh's hand. Kissed her hand. Danced with her. Pulled her closer. And spoke poetry to her. What a charming man.

Me whenever Kamran is in the room:

‧₊˚♪ 𝄞₊˚⊹ It appears my review-writing skills have dwindled. I usually get my words out so easily. Not sure why I struggled so much with this one.

as someone who has been riding for this series since i found it when these infinite threads dropped, it low key devastates me to rate lower but i was disappointed.

there is so little that happens which tbf is kind of the pacing for the series so far, but after the last book's emotional build up i had really high expectations for post-wedding era.

the last 20% kinda came thru but for 80% being severely lacking for me, i was sad. huda really annoyed me and was almost pointless to have in here. hazan kinda lost some of his sassy spark. kamran also annoyed me at first but eventually became the only character giving me comedic relief. also i refuse to believe he and huda should end up together, he had way more chemistry with hazan the previous books (altho that was backed off a bit in this imo).

and our starring couple barely spend any time around each other. like after last book's insane tension and yearning?! rude. the one bed fakeout??? CRIMINAL.

i don't know if it was the anticipation of the release or if my tastes have just changed from some really excellent reads since all this twisted glory, but this was meh for me.

i'm really hoping next book steps it up esp since it's going to be the last 😅

these books just have a certain feeling of crack in them because they are so easy to binge!! the writing/story progressing in this book was definitely much better than in the 3rd book (which was a main issue for me). the reveal and plot twists were very well written even if painful…

cyrus and alizeh will have my heart 🥺💕!!! genuinely one of my favorite couples, the yearning and slow burn?! and cyrus my poor baby in the end!! (note: the nickname “angel” has never been so painful)! just reading this book makes me want to reread the whole series so bad!!

Reading this series is like getting rage baited over and over again every two years.

Never in my life have I been subjected to the extensive torture of HOPING and PRAYING something would actually, finally, happen into the fourth book of a five-book project. Miss Mafi pokes the boundaries of human resistance stretching a barely-there plot once again, but this time I couldn't find it in me to give this book some grace: it was RIDICULOUS . And some characters need to shut the fuck up.

If you thought we would finally get to a turning point in this tedious journey lemme tell you right away that we definitely don't: characters come to the conclusions we established like fifty times in the last two books, but since all of them are dumb as fuck they ought to torture us with their stupidity (and endless, UNFUNNY, bickering) for another FIVE HUNDRED pages. 500. Jesus Christ.

[SPOILERS] Lemme give you a SUMMARY then:
The story picks up right where we left it two years ago and it's been approximately one month and five days since the day dear Alizeh started her journey. 30 days out of these 35 she spent in a coma in the last book, but that is just a minor detail really.
Our hero and heroine have just taken a blood oath, which should be awful but it's just a way to add to Cyrus's picture perfect martyr portfolio some more since he was able to get away from Alizeh and bear the endless pain in just a matter of days. WHATEVER!
Cyrus ghosts Alizeh some more before the two finally marry and the whole marriage scene is very underwhelming considering it's all we've been talking about for three books at this point. Plus, the ceremony appeared to take place in Glinda's pink bubble in the sky.

I finished reading this book yesterday but if you ask me what exactly happened up until 60% BITCH I DON'T KNOW, the answer is probably 'absolutely nothing' like usual. There are assassination attempts, Alizeh's endless incompetence, some thirsting over Cyrus's pectorals and love declarations that I still can't explain for the life of me considering these people don't know each other since THEY DON’T COMMUNICATE.

Finally, FINALLY, we embark on the journey to claim Alizeh's prophesied power on Cyrus's dragons🐉 and some shit happens but we don't see any action about it because Alizeh is useless and she's ASLEEP on the dragon.

We take camp, we search the mountains, there's a lot of tell not show and Cyrus and Alizeh have to sleep in the same tiny room but truly no one gives a fuck about the whole charade because the angst I was promised is next to non-existent: these people that have been sharing sentences for all of five days want to jump each other's bones but they won't because they're unable to have human conversations even when the annoying side characters aren't around so Cyrus sleeps on the floor and that's it.

Kamran is a possessive delusional asshole but then again Alizeh enables him with her stupidity because she cannot set boundaries considering her doormat personality so he riles up Cyrus all the time and we all collectively let out a big sigh because this is the fourth book and we're still at square one.
Cyrus, once again, carries the whole plot because HE alone finds what we were searching for while all the other six STUPID and USELESS characters that I wish would just shut the fuck up do NOTHING but annoy the fuck out of me with their conversations that actually say nothing.

So he finds the mountain, takes them there and then BOOM, they finally come to the realization WE readers had had since the second book, nearly a thousand pages ago at this point: Iblees, the devil, has been scheming to steal Alizeh's power all along. S H O C K I N G. Who would have thought????? WOW. Plot twist.
And prodigy student advanced mage Cyrus hadn't figured it out somehow, even thought the devil had all but spelled it out for him considering there's a fucking life or death LIST that revolves all around Alizeh and her magic. But no! We had to give Kamran at least one redeeming quality least we could think he's an useless one dimensional character.

So a lot of obnoxious overdramatic shit happens after that and let me spare you the details but somehow we arrive on the big finale and here we have our great antagonist, the mighty DEVIL, agreeing to forfeit his thousands year old life plan because Alizeh, who has been doing absolutely nothing relevant since the first book and has literally no admirable features, '''''tortures'''' him by stabbing him and then mending his borrowed skin a bunch of times. Like four times total. This business took maybe five minutes. And then Cyrus resurrects thanks to the power of their five days long great love for reasons that I don't feel like I need to explain.

Honestly? The devil part was the best one. That felt like AddieLuc fanfic galore and if Miss Mafi had some guts she should have switched love interest once again.. like the devil's scheming was disturbingly romantic if a little morbid #TOME. And seriously, he's just misunderstood.

Now a little rant on the CHARACTERS:
I don't know what's the matter with authors and their fascination with deforestation but this series could have been an email if only the characters would share normal conversations.
I found it amusing in the first book but now that we're onto the fourth I'm exhausted.

NO ONE here has ANY character development: they REGRESS.
They get more tedious by the second.
They waste pages and pages saying NOTHING.
They had to be there to open the damn door but other than that they're not useful to anything but talking over Alizeh in the least appropriate times. And she lets them.
This girl is supposed to lead countries and she can't even speak over a twelve year old and I DON'T find it amusing anymore.

In fact, Alizeh was my biggest problem with this book. The girl is genuinely nothing : in the span of four books the author wasn't able to have me develop not even a shred of affection for her cause and character.
THIS is the girl prophecies have been written about? #THE jinn queen that moved the masses? WHERE? Unless all people in this world are as dumb as the characters we’ve been presented this girl couldn’t move a fly on her own and she’s been doing nothing a leader should be doing for the last three books. There’s no pathos in ANYTHING she does or thinks.

E.g. WHY the fuck is this airhead so sympathetic with Kamran, exactly? She’s always known his family literally exterminated hers. Always. She bitches about her family’s tragedies but then condones Cyrus for killing King Zaal — Kamran’s grandfather — who she literally knows CHARRED HER MOTHER ALIVE IN FRONT OF HER OWN EYES and tried to do the same with her? And she KNOWS THIS. She can be sympathetic with Kamran’s loss of his murderous child-eater grandfather but she can’t put a little blind faith in Cyrus who did nothing but save her dumb ass for four books?

Alizeh’s stupidity tortured me longer than she tortured the damn devil at the end of this dumb money-grab book.

We are told things about her that don't reflect in her actions: first she tells us she was raised to lead an entire population and then she says she knows nothing and Kamran might teach her. UH?
She is married to a king herself and doesn't even think to ASK to be taught whatever she wants to know: she asks no questions. She lets everyone speak over her. She couldn't figure out Hazan is a general when we've been knowing since chapter five of the first book, probably. She engages in no action: Cyrus does everything while she reads the same book she's been reading for the last twenty years.

And then, in the end, her great romantic gesture is saving the only character that has been doing something in this story only AFTER a lengthy info dump where he explains everything in great detail because up until this moment the main protagonist of the story couldn't figure out shit on her own, nor she attempted to, even thought her ovaries and spidey senses had been tingling for the last three books.

NO THANK YOU.
See y'all next year for the final coke rant.

”My life, my heart, my blood—they’re already yours. Heaven knows I have nothing left to give you that isn’t already in pieces.”

i love Cyrus, that man is tortured yearning personified and this book was a very clear example of that. i found the previous book lacking in plot, this has the same issue but on a lower scale— i think there was enough progression to keep the story moving. Hazan is my other favorite character of the series, he always manages to say exactly what I’m thinking (especially when it comes to Kamran), and i find that hilarious. i also loved seeing more of the dragons and Cyrus communicating with them and as much as i desperately want more romance, i just know it’s gonna hit ten times harder when Alizeh and Cyrus finally give in to eachother. the ending section was a bit insane, i have no idea what to do with myself now.. the wait will kill me.

more quotes —

💍 ”His enormous, unbridled smile was a cruel shock to her system, for it shattered the armor he wore, rendering him glorious in the aftermath.”

💍 “He saw nothing but her. He wanted nothing but her. He couldn’t fucking breathe.”

💍 “I don’t need peace,” she said softly. “I want war.”

💍 “She wanted to cross the room to him. She wished she might unlock his chest, push apart the curtains of his ribs, take a closer look at his heart. She feared, with ever-increasing terror, that she might find it forged from something finer than gold.”

💍 “It would be simpler for him to lay down and die for her than to try to convey the enormity of all that he felt in her presence.”

💍 “He felt there were too many queens in this world; none of them her equal. She deserved a title entirely her own.”

I’m actually going insane 😩 How can so much tension and yearning exist in one man? I swear Tahereh Mafi is just torturing us alongside Cyrus at this point. 🥲 I loved getting more insight into his side of the story! As with all the other books, Kamran remains my number one “would punch on sight” character. 👊🏻😌

This book was an absolute shitshow. Tahereh Mafi does not know how to worldbuild, and this entire story felt rushed, shallow, and aimless. Mafi’s so-called “writing” here is a masterclass in wasted potential.

Let us begin with the review.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:

• 𝗖𝘆𝗿𝘂𝘀 : She clearly tried to make him like Aaron Warner 2.0. Except she failed miserably. He’s not mysterious, he’s not complex, he’s just pathetic. A pathetic, groveling, desperate loser who can’t even communicate his feelings like a human being. He spends the entire spam of 4 books following Alizeh around like a sad little puppy, whining about how much he loves her, yet never actually doing anything meaningful to demonstrate it. He broods. He pines. He sulks. And somehow, Mafi expects us to find this romantic. No. He’s disgusting, and watching him fawn over Alizeh made me want to throw the book across the room.

• 𝗔𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗵 : Oh, Alizeh. Supposedly the heroine, the jinn queen. Supposedly the central figure who’s meant to save her people. And yet? She spends most of the trilogy as a clueless damsel in distress. She has no idea what’s going on in her own story, constantly asking Hazan or Cyrus for explanations. She cries. She panics. She makes terrible decisions. She’s fragile, helpless, and infuriatingly indecisive. She is, in every sense, pathetic. And somehow, the men around her, Cyrus especially treat this like it’s the pinnacle of allure. She has dreams. She’s “special.” She’s supposed to be powerful. But she’s nothing but a whining, tearful mess.

• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 : Huda and Omid are unbearable, constantly nagging or whining in ways that add nothing to the story. Kamran is a spoiled brat with zero development or redeeming qualities. The only characters I found interesting were the dragons, and Kamran’s mother.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 (𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗼𝗳):

There is no story here. The book is basically filler masquerading as a plot. Scenes stretch on for pages with nothing happening besides characters arguing or pining. There’s no tension, no stakes, no sense of urgency. The pacing is horrifically slow. Every chapter feels like wading through mud, only to end on some tiny “revelation” that barely matters. Important events like the actual oppression of the jinn, or Alizeh supposedly taking charge as a queen are shoved into a paragraph or mentioned in passing. Meanwhile, Cyrus’s whining about his love for her takes up whole chapters. Whole. Chapters.

Tahereh Mafi seems incapable of actually building a world. The setting is thin, the magic system is barely explained, and nothing feels grounded. There’s no sense of culture, no politics, no social stakes, no real danger. Just a bunch of characters wandering around, whining, crying, and talking at each other while the “plot” pretends to exist in the background.

And the dialogue… don’t even get me started. Half the book is just characters arguing over the most trivial, petty things. It’s exhausting. The king arguing with a teenager? The heroes moping and whining instead of doing anything productive? Every conversation is painfully drawn out, repetitive, and utterly meaningless. I have never been more frustrated reading a series.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀:

This series is a complete waste of time. The characters are pathetic, the pacing is glacial, the worldbuilding is nonexistent, and the story is just filler glued together with overlong dialogue. Every Spiral of Fate is a monument to whining, pining, and indecision, with no substance underneath. It made me furious. I wish I could erase this series from my brain. It is, quite literally, a colossal waste of mental energy.

If you are considering this book for a story about a jinn queen or a meaningful narrative, do yourself a favor and don’t. This series is nothing but men pining, women whining, and endless filler. A monument to pathetic characters and wasted potential. I have never been this angry at a series in my life.

“I will say this once, angel, for I feel you should be warned.
No man alive has ever loved a woman the way I loved you, and I would rather die, damned as I am, than disgrace us both with the pitiful, unrequited performance of my heart.”

The amount of books I’m waiting on right now is slowly chipping away at my sanity 😭 But this? This one was so worth the emotional damage. From the angst to the longing, the tension, the emotional unraveling, I was fully in the trenches. And I loved it there.

Let’s start with Cyrus. My entire heart belongs to that man. He’s been suffering for so long, and it hurts how much he loves Alizeh. It’s not surface-level love, it’s “scream it into the void, set the world on fire, I will crawl through glass for you” kind of love. And he feels everything so deeply. Every scene from his POV had me kicking my feet and sobbing into my blanket. Like please, let this man rest. Let him be happy. He’s fought so hard and gotten so little in return. He’s rough around the edges, but he’s got that soft center reserved only for Alizeh, and the way he worships her??? Devastating. I want what they have… minus all the trauma maybe 😭

Throw his entire family. Especially his mother, she’s evil and I hate her. The way they treat him like he’s disposable made me want to riot. And yes, Cyrus can be closed off, but can you blame him? I’d be too if I had to deal with them.

Now let’s talk about Alizeh, my soft-spoken chaos queen 🥹 She’s so strong in her own way, not in a loud, flashy way, but in a “I’ll bear the weight of the world for those I love” kind of way. She’s the calm in the storm. And when it comes to Cyrus? Oh girl, she does not play. She’s protective, fierce, and absolutely down bad for him, and I love that for her. For us. Her being constantly ready to throw hands for him had me cheering. And the hunger??? The way she wanted him in this book? Delicious. She went from “you are my enemy” to “I will burn the world if he blinks wrong” and honestly, we need more heroines like her.

Their relationship development? Chef’s kiss. They’ve gone from snapping at each other to aching in silence, to risking everything for one another. It’s so raw and so intense and sooo satisfying to read. It’s not perfect, but that’s what makes it feel so real. Their scenes together had me in emotional ruin. The tension, the way they see each other even when no one else does, it’s giving soulmate core and I’m here for it.

Now… Miss Huda. My comedic queen. The way she roasts everyone?? Iconic. She could call me a useless worm and I’d say thank you. But yeah… the Cyrus slander is starting to feel repetitive. Ma’am, please, give the poor man a break 😭 Kamran though? Drag him. Daily.
I love how she always so sweet to Omid. Her softer side with him was so precious 🥹

Hazan deserves more attention. His scenes are limited, but when he speaks? Gold. Especially when he’s putting Kamran in his place. And let’s be honest—he’s fine too 🤭

Kamran… I don’t hate him. I actually kind of like his dynamic with Huda. But the way he keeps bringing up Alizeh? Like sir, be serious. Your time is over. Go meditate or something. Every time he mentioned marriage I wanted to throw my book.

We dont talk about the ending😔

Thank you for reading xx.💋

5 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The mere sight of her like a fatal strike, and he bore it badly. He could not look at her; he could not look away from her. Her beauty was its own violence, assailing his worn defenses even as chains of pain released him at her approach. She was like a panacea for all that ailed him, a braid of light and fury, the cause and the cure.

Cyrus of Nara and I are truly kindred spirits... for I, too, would be perpetually tormented, sexually frustrated and wouldn't know peace of mind even if it slapped me in the face.

Tahereh Mafi I beg you have pity on us. Spare us from this endless suffering and torment. You can't be the is sadistic... can you? Kudos to Cyrus for holding on to any semblance of sanity—I'm beginning to lose my grip on the very thin thread that is stopping me from hurling my book (or rather kindle) across the room.

Every Spiral of Fate is by far my favorite installment in the series because it gutted me spectacularly and I savored it.

The stakes soar to impossible heights, the reveals and answers sated my starved soul while making me even more devastated—it truly sets such an ominous path ahead for the finale and I am both excited and terrified for what will become of these characters.

The cast remain an absolute delight—except for Kamran who becomes insufferable with each installment (but I hate to admit he does make some valid points... sometimes). The dragons are everything and their bond with Cyrus is too precious my poor heart can't handle it.

I grow fonder and attached to Alizeh with every book but she truly stood out to me in this one. I resonated deeply with her feelings and admire her sharp mind and soft heart, she manages to balance the two splendidly as she understands that her capability of empathy and kindness does not mean she won't draw blood if need to be. The burden on her didn't strip her of humanity or turn her into a tyrant, she holds such an infinite affection and loyalty towards her people and home.

Her enemies thought her softness made her weak. But it was the very softness of her heart that drove her to slaughter armies in the defense of those she loved. She knew when to wipe her tears, when to rise to her feet, when to draw boundaries and when to draw blood. Her kindness was not inexhaustible; it was not unconditional.

The romance remains deliciously angsty and excruciating as ever but the other aspect of the story that I truly enjoyed was the characters finally embarking on a quest because we truly needed a change of scenery and to up the pace and push the plot forward especially in regards to the prophecy.

I won't elaborate on why but I hereby nominate Akbar to be the president of the AlizehCyrus Shippers. The star of the book deserves such honor—even if his scenes were not that many but he made every appearance count. I am pretty sure Tahereh needed to add a character to humble Cyrus in some way.

Even among all this torment, it felt like Tahereh was quite generous with the comedic relief and I guess in a way she needed to keep her readers sane until she breaks us all in the finale.

And now, to my great frustration, am forced to wait until then.

if i had to describe this book in one word i'd say: underwhelming

for it being the penultimate book, the plot progressed maybe 10%. at this point, i'm debating if there even is a plot 🫩

the yearning was top tier but they didn't speak to each other for most of this book. it was just suffering? rip cyrus? more like rip US, this was TORTUROUS. i'm so frustrated by this series and the constant nothing, followed by things only getting interesting at the end to keep readers hooked 😐
