Now I belong to the Bratva king who vowed never to love again. All I ever wanted was to write songs and escape this cursed city.
But my father? He gambled me away to Radomir Molchanov — The ruthless ruler of Vegas’s underworld. The man with ice in his veins... and fire in his touch.
He doesn’t believe in mercy. He doesn’t believe in love.
But he can’t stop looking at me like I’m the one woman who could ruin him. Ten years ago, Radomir lost everything to a ghost — the Greek Matriarch.
Now he thinks I know the truth. He’s watching me. Testing me.
And every second in his world drags me closer to the edge of something I don’t understand — lust, obsession… maybe even redemption.
There’s just one problem. I don’t remember who I am. But my nightmares do.
And if the truth resurfaces, it could destroy us both. Because in the Bratva world, the only thing more dangerous than secrets…
Is love.
And the only thing that might save me now? Is the secret growing inside me — his baby.WICKED EMBERS is the explosive first book in the Vegas Bratva Kings series — a heart-pounding dark mafia romance packed with twisted pasts, secret baby tension, enemies-to-lovers heat, and a Bratva anti-hero who never, ever loses. This is my first Kat Steele book. I really enjoy it. But didn't know it was a first of duet. The book ends on a cliffhanger. I listened to the audiobook and Erik Bloomquist and Leeann Woodward did amazing job. The story was interesting and well written. Only the spice scenes were a little cringe. But I'll definitely be reading the next book.
If you’re looking for a super smutty, wild ride, Wicked Embers by Kat Steele absolutely delivers. It’s over-the-top in the best way, with a storyline that often felt like a soap opera — dramatic, twisty, and occasionally requiring a healthy suspension of disbelief.
The narration by Erik Bloomquist and Leeann Woodward was a definite highlight. Both brought the characters to life beautifully, making the push-and-pull dynamics even more engaging and the tension extra sharp. The production quality was top-notch.
This is definitely one for readers who love the captive trope and a “touch her and die” male main character. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you enjoy high-drama, high-heat romances, this one will keep you hooked, even when you’re side-eyeing some of the wild plot turns. 😅
Thank you to Tantor Media and NetGalley for this ARC.
This book was a russian mafia romance but has others in it it was packed full of adventure and danger and spice the one thing I didn't like was a certain trope but it was done so well I have no complaints
I really enjoyed this mafia romance. It had all the correct sexy elements. Interesting storyline, definitely going in with the plot beyond smut. Good characters, hot spice. It’s almost insta love. I’m interested to see what happens next. The narrators were good too. I preferred the female narrator, the male had a great gravelly tone but it sounded forced and imo should’ve had at least a slight Russian accent being a bratva romance.
Mafia was never really a sub genre that I used to reach for prior to 2025, but I think it's definitely starting to grow on me! If you like a hot, dominant, Russian MMC and you love your romance with a touch of danger, this definitely brings all that chaos to the table (and one hell of a vocal performance from Erik Bloomquist that just might leave you breathless...not that I'm speaking from experience or anything...)
As always, first up Narration! I believe this was my first experience with Erik Bloomquist, and let me just say, what a first experience it was! Where have you all been hiding him?! He doesn’t just read spicy scenes… he performs them. From whispered commands to growled threats, Erik delivers heat with practised, and delicious control.
Leanne Woodward was solid, though I will admit her accent work wasn’t quite as strong or consistent as Erik’s, not jarringly so, but definitely of note for accent purists. While this dual style narration, the POV transitions were clean and clear and and kept my attention well enough overall.
The pacing was decent, though I did have to slow it down a little from my normal speed because I found that Erik’s sections are delivered slightly faster than Leanne's, so slowing it down just a little bit helped to bring a little balance between them. That said once adjusted, it was easy (and comfortable) to follow.
Transitions between scenes and chapters were clear, with solid production quality. Of note; I did notice some repetitious lines that I thought might be mistakes, but after cross-checking with the eBook (during my immersive read), I confirmed it wasn’t an audio error, maybe few things that slipped through editing the copy. Personally it didn’t bother me, I didn't find them egregious enough to affect my rating, but worth mentioning.
(Side note, I'm going to need all of Erik's Audios STAT)
Onto the story! The plot was engaging enough to finish in a single afternoon, which says a lot about its addictive pull, even if it required a healthy suspension of disbelief (you're telling me there was a helicopter that managed to land on a building, then managed to take off without anyone from security being alerted? Like...I feel like you you might want to look into getting a security upgrade and maybe a new team?). Also, some of the story beats (like the dress shopping scene) felt like they were missing finer details that may seem irrelavent, but also take some readers out of the story and be like "wait, what? That's not really how that works"...
The character development felt a little surface level to me, especially for Leigh. She started out being a very driven and career oriented person, all she wanted was to get to LA and make music and get signed to a label, but that very quickly (for such a short book) seemed to fall away as soon as she sealed the deal with the Mafia kingpin (babies might be on the brain a little sooner than I'm comfortable with) but as this is the first book in a mafia mystery series I feel like there’s potential for more depth as the series unfolds, so I didn't take it too seriously.
I will admit, this review might be mainly based on vibes?... Yea okay, so the emotional arc didn’t hit as hard as I hoped, but the spicy scenes ( again, thank you for Erik's vocal magic) absolutely stole the show and did setup nicely for the next book (although we are leading into one of my least favourite tropes; pregnancy, I feel like this might be one I can overlook it for.
It might not be the most intricate mafia plot I’ve ever read, but there’s enough intrigue, heat, and growling to keep me interested and invested for book two. I’m genuinely curious to see where this series goes!... and more for Erik performances...
As mentioned in the beginning, I received an ALC of this audiobook from NetGalley and Tantor Media in exchange for an honest review. Having said that, all thoughts are my own.
First I would like to thank NetGalley, the Author, the Narrators and the Publisher for this ARC.
This felt a little like "A Den of Vipers". You know, the gambling, losing or betting your daughter away in a Gambling game, The Mob being connected to all of this. But I think there was more debt and a whole lot less smut.... The book ends on a mayor cliffhanger and lucky me, I had already bought the e-book of the first book on my kindle, which offers the first chapter of the second book. Not that it helped much, but at least I know a little more and it might have persuaded me to read the second book as well, at some point, somewhere in the future. I'm a really big fan of the Russian pet names and the accents. So the Narrator did a good job there, I think. The FMC isn't the brightest of characters and I like her Chaotic Spitfire of a Best Friend more but hey... Beggars can't be choosers... 🙈 There was some growth in the MC's and their relationship near the end and I would like to see that play out, I would also love to know the whole story about why certain people are being hunted and why others are dead... 😂 It has a steady pace which makes for a decent read. But it could have used a little more dept or explanations as to the who's, what's and where's... Also there where some inconsistencies, like you're telling me there was a helicopter that managed to land on YOUR building, then managed to take off without anyone from security being alerted? Like...I feel like you might want to look into getting a security upgrade and maybe a new team? Especially when you keep hammering on the FACT that your location is safe and that Leigh is the safest with you.... Also, some of the story (like the dress shopping scene) felt like they were missing finer details that may seem irrelevant, but also take some readers out of the story and be like "wait, HUH, Sorry, what? That's not really how that works". But in the end, it was very enjoyable and I will recommend this Audio book to the right customers. I'm also going to try and get the physical copies into the store. We do have the right public for these tropes. 😉
What I loved about this Audiobook: ❤️ World Building - This book takes you into the nightlife and dark world of the Russian Mafia in Las Vegas. It is rich, gritty, and oh so sinnister. It invokes the read to be able to see, hear, and feel the world.
❤️ The Characters - The Characters were believable in their actions and reactions to the situations. You know, sometimes insta-lust happens and we can't blame our bodies reactions to that. Both Lee (the mfc) and Radomir (the mmc) have a history that is complex and needs to be worked on. I can see in this series both of them have more character depth to them, not saying they don't have depth now, they do, but I'm looking forward to seeing it develop more.
❤️ The Story - This is my very first mafia romance book! And I must say I totally get the hype now. The story was involved, gripping, and oh so hot! I finished this audiobook in one day! I normally just listen while I'm at work, but I continued to listen after work as well, because the story was that good, even without the spice!
🎤 The Narrators - Erik and Leanne did such a wonderful job narrating this book! 🥰 I was blushing through most of it. They both did such a great job, honestly these two are now one of my favorite Narrators, and I'll be looking up what other books they have Narrated!
What I thought could have been better: 🤔I don't have really anything to complain about.
Overall: You should totally get this audiobook! I've already got the next book and I pre-ordered the 3rd! 😍
🧜♀️Baikal seal Fact - there were no animals in this book, so I went with the Baikal seal, the only freshwater seal that is only in Russia. The Fact - Baikal seals have a polygynous mating system. (https://animaldiversity.org/)
I got this audiobook free from @netgalley for my honest review.
This was my first read by this author and I already know that it won't be my last!
This book forms the start of the Vegas Bratva Kings series which as far as I can find, consists of (currently) 3 duologies following the different families within this group.
Being a duology, it was expected that this first book would leave us on something of a cliffhanger and oh my, did it deliver.
I was not expecting to be feeling quite so feral by the end of this and absolutely needing to get hold of book 2 to find out what happened and what Radomir would do next.
I fell in love with our main characters right from the start.
Leigh was super fiery and such a strong character.
Radomir, your typical powerful Bratva boss.
It was pretty obvious that the two would end up together in some form, but never did I imagine that Leigh's father would be the one to hand her over - well, lose her in his poker game!
I loved how the backstories were gradually fed through the story so that at each point your loyalties shifted - but over the top of all this I couldn't get enough of our couple growing closer.
Yes, this does get spicy pretty swiftly - and it did seem a little too abrupt at first - but this is only covered by two books and so there's not the luxury of spreading things out too much.
These scenes were well written and followed the pace of the storyline adding another layer to our couple as we see their vulnerability and love for each other develop.
I absolutely knew that we were building for an explosive finale over the last quarter of the book and I was dreading it coming to an end!
When it did, I ran off to search for dates for the next book and added them all to my wishlist instantly!
I need to know so much more!
This felt like such an intense read and the dual narration was perfect.
The excitement and danger were so well portrayed and I really felt that we got to know the characters well.
I cannot wait to see how this develops through book 2 and best believe I'll be grabbing the rest of the series asap too!
Thank you to NetGalley, Tantor Media, and Kat Steele for the audio Advanced Reader Copy of Wicked Embers.
Wicked Embers is the first book in the Vegas Bratva Kings series by Kat Steele, it ends on a cliffhanger and the story wraps up in Sinful Embers. It’s a huge pet peeve of mine to have an undisclosed cliffhanger, so I knocked off a star for that.
I was so excited for this book for the entire first 30%, then I spent the next 70% being disappointed and wanting the book the first 30% promised. There’s so many things about this book that bothered me.
- The first spicy scene played 101 words for a vag*na and it was really distracting to constantly have a new word used in every reference. Thankfully, this didn’t continue through the whole book. - The spicy scenes were actually my least favorite part of their interactions, which is really a wild thing for me to say. - For someone who said he didn’t care if she was a virgin or not, he sure turned right around and made a big deal about her being one. - I really don’t like either of the narrators’ opposite gender voices during spicy scenes. - What happened to her being a spitfire? You can call her a spitfire all you want, (and in the first 30% she is) but her actions for the vast majority of the book don’t match that title. She’s actually pretty simpering and docile for the majority of the book. She’s not a driving force for the story. Things happen TO her, she’s not taking control of anything. I actually have a note that says “Defiance? What defiance? She hasn’t fought for a thing since you slept with her.”
I did read the second book for this duo before writing this review, and it needs approximately 85 trigger warnings. I don’t really worry much about trigger warnings generally, but that book made me pause and say “WHAT. That was a bit much.” Several times. I’m not letting that book influence the review for this book, so I will be giving this book the same star rating I was planning to give it before I read that one, but I do feel it’s important for people to know what they’re getting into.
Thank you to Net Galley and Tantor Audio for the audiobook arc in exchange for a honest review!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4 stars)
Wow, Wicked Embers by Kat Steele really took me by surprise. I went in expecting a dark romance with some mafia drama, but what I got was a fast-paced, addictive read that gave me total Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire vibes—with way more danger and emotional chaos thrown in. This book delivers on all the tropes: forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and that ever-addictive mob-style romance dynamic. Lee, our heroine, has had a life that’s one tragedy after another—so much so that she has amnesia from everything before age 12. And then to make things worse, the man who raised her basically pawns her off to a Russian mobster like it’s nothing. Seriously, who does that? Messed up doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Enter Radomir—the broody, complicated mobster who slowly but surely gets under Lee’s skin. Their relationship is magnetic, fiery, and yes—completely messy and unrealistic at times… but also the exact kind of drama-filled romance you can’t stop reading. The tension between them builds in all the best ways, and watching them gravitate toward each other kept me hooked.
I also loved Sabrina—Lee’s best friend—because she was the ride-or-die girl everyone needs in their corner. Through all the chaos and betrayal, Sabrina brought loyalty and heart to the story, and I adored every scene she was in.
Was it over the top? Absolutely. Did I devour it anyway? Also yes. The mix of mob danger, romance, and emotional twists made this such a fast, entertaining read that I finished in almost one sitting—and immediately grabbed book two because I had to see what happened next.
If you love messy, dangerous, and fast-paced romance with plenty of drama, Wicked Embers will scratch that itch perfectly.
A big thank you to NetGalley, Tantor Media and Kat Steele for the opportunity to listen to an ARC of Wicked Embers in exchange for an honest review.
Wicked Embers is a dark, mafia-style romance that pulls readers into the world of Radomir Molchanov who is brooding, powerful, and known as The King of Vegas. As the head of the Molchanov Bratva, Radomir exudes danger and dominance. When Leigh Dalton is shockingly gambled away by her father in a poker game, she finds herself at Radomir’s mercy but nothing is as simple as it seems. Radomir isn’t just playing games; he’s out for vengeance, and Leigh is deeply entwined in his plan.
Narrated by Leanne Woodward and Erik Blomquist, the audiobook truly shines. Both narrators deliver strong, emotionally resonant performances that bring Radomir and Leigh to life. Their pacing and tone are spot on, enhancing the characters’ depth and adding an extra layer of immersion to the experience.
As for the story itself, I found it engaging overall, though the pacing could feel uneven at times. The beginning unfolds slowly, building tension and atmosphere, while the latter half shifts into a much faster, more intense rhythm. While I appreciated the overarching storyline and the well-executed spice, the emotional connection between Radomir and Leigh felt somewhat surface-level for me and it didn’t quite land with the depth I was hoping for.
That said, the plot thread running throughout the book kept my interest, and I’m definitely curious to see how the story continues in the next installment. If you're a fan of dark romance with a mafia twist, Wicked Embers may be worth adding to your TBR or listening list.
Read this book? No I devoured this book! A bet placed in a poker game ,that’s all she was ,but succumb Leigh Dalton did to the King of Vegas the casino’s owner. The cold blooded head of the Molchanov Bratva no less .Radomir Molchanov sets her spine tingling with one wicked gaze. She knows she’s his ,knows her place because he now owns her. Her greedy dad who she’d gone to see , bet her his daughter see. She let him have it punched him she did and pepper sprayed too before she fled. But of course Radomir sent his goons to get this feisty thing back . She’ll do some good things in his sack …For a decade Radomir and his cousins have hunted for the Greek Matriarch who they believe killed his father and uncle . A decade ago she lost her memory, everything a blank except a monster with icy-blue eyes… Now though …There’s fire in her belly that needs to survive ,because when Radomir discovers who she really is he’ll kill her ,but there might be a little thing that’s growing in that belly too , his baby that might make a difference to what he will do. Will he reprieve her though she deceived . What actually would he achieve . She had no memory ,she wasn’t aware of anything done or not done in her past history ,it’s a mystery blanked out ,erased and deleted . Does this mean she can’t be replete and completed with the food of their love ? This is edge of your seat stuff as always from this fine writer who brings the grit and what’s more . The heat I adore. Everything Kat Steele writes is superb.
I am all for a good dark romance. I am ok with morally grey or just on the side of not good at all. I am even ok with all the spice, as long as it is well written. I just thought this story was trying too hard to be the next talked-about thing. We have a Russian and Greek mob rivalry going on, and Leigh's dad is a prolific con man who also has a gambling addiction. So much so that he steals from his daughter and then bets her in a poker game to the head of the Vegas Russian Mob. Leigh's character development starts off strong. She is sassy, strong, and defiant. Also, a virgin, which we make a big deal out of for a few minutes. Then she gets bedded by the devil himself, Radomir. Once Leigh gets into Radomir's estate, any character development of her being strong, defiant, and independent just goes right down the drain. She becomes passive and catatonic. We have too many childhood traumas coming about. This also ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared. You know that if we have instalove, that star rating is going right on down. Though we don't officially mention love, it is quite obvious that these two are twitterpated. Then there are those spicy scenes. They are not the most cringeworthy spice I've ever read, but it is close. The scenarios are crazy; we add marriages and pregnancy after two intimate sessions, and it is just a lot of unimpressive situations going on for me.
4⭐️ 3🌶️ 4🎧 This book was a pleasant surprise, and I really enjoyed it! The Won/Purchased troupe is really hit and miss for me, but this one hit! There was just enough rough and soft when it came to the MMC where it didn’t feel yucky and everything was consensual, and nothing was forced. The twist and turns were welcomed and many I didn’t see coming. I also didn’t see the cliffhanger at the end coming….BOOOOO!
Radomir is your typical Mafia leader cinnamon roll, hard on the out and melts for Leigh. He is possessive, protective, and a man trying (and failing) not to obsessed! Leigh is a strong independent woman, and she melts when it comes to Radomir, and she can’t help but turn into a puddle at his look and especially his touch.
This book was narrated by Leanne Woodward and Erik Bloomquist, and they did a good job. I really enjoyed Leanne in this performance, and I wish we had more inflection for Erik. His performance seemed to be a bit monotone and there wasn’t much inflection when I was expecting there to be.
Thank you NetGalley and RBmedia for this advance copy audiobook, I am excited to continue the Vegas Bratva Kings series when the next audiobook, Sinful Embers, releases in September 2025.
Wicked Embers kicks off the Vegas Bratva Kings series with a dark, fast-paced mafia romance that had me hooked from the start!
The story is intense, unfolding over just a few days where so much happens. Radomir and Lee’s magnetic pull toward one another, the tangled dynamics of the Bratva, Italian, and Greek factions, and secrets clawing their way to the surface, there’s never a dull moment. I loved the layered worldbuilding and the balance between danger, intrigue, and romance. The twists kept me glued until the very end. Yes, it ends on a cliffhanger (book one of a duet and part of a bigger series), but it’s compelling enough that I need book two.
🌶️ Spice-wise, I’d rate this a 2–3/5. The scenes are hot, but don't overshadow the suspense and darker elements — which feels right for this kind of story.
🎧 The audiobook narration is next level. Erik Bloomquist (Radomir) and Leanne Woodward (Lee) gave stellar performances, and Erik in particular brought Rad to life with nuance — his tone, inflection, and emotional delivery were chef’s kiss. Even though it was dual narration, it felt seamless and immersive from start to finish.
If you’re into mafia romances with twisted pasts, enemies-to-lovers tension, and next-level narration… add this one to your TBR!
Wicked Embers is the first book in the Vegas Bratva Kings series starring Leigh Dalton and Radomir Molchanov. This book ends in a cliffhanger so beware. Leigh has plans to move to California until her father commandeers her money and loses it. She now “belongs” to Radomir. At first, she is unhappy and wants to escape. After falling in love, she is happy to be together and get married. Unbeknownst to them, this was all part of a plan to keep her safe. What will happen? Can he recover her from the kidnappers? Listen to this fabulous audiobook for their story. The dual narration by Leanne Woodward and Erik Bloomquist was phenomenal. Leanne Woodward was brilliant as beautiful, sassy, intelligent Leigh. All of her hurt, pain, confusion as well as her happiness and love were clearly expressed in her voice. Erik Bloomquist was positively divine as Radomir. His Russian accent was wonderful. His possessiveness, obsessiveness and love for Leigh was voiced perfectly. I could feel their love and chemistry. I highly recommend listening. Thanks to the author and NetGalley for this ALC.
**Review: *Wicked Embers* by Kat Steele – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️** The first book in a dark and steamy Bratva trilogy, *Wicked Embers* sets the tone with high stakes, undeniable chemistry, and a dangerous underworld backdrop. Leigh is given to Radomir as payment for her father’s gambling debt—a brutal transaction that marks the beginning of their intense, tangled relationship.
Radomir is instantly drawn to Leigh, but their connection is tested when powerful enemies emerge, not only targeting Leigh but threatening Radomir’s empire. The story is fast-paced with plenty of action, betrayal, and heat, and while the romance simmers with tension, it never overshadows the danger brewing around them.
The narrators delivered a **5⭐️ performance**, perfectly capturing the emotion, danger, and passion between the characters. Their voices brought Radomir and Leigh to life in a way that deepened the intensity of the story.
A gripping start to what promises to be a fiery trilogy. If you enjoy possessive antiheroes, high-risk romance, and mafia politics, this one’s for you.
**Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Media for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.**
Leigh has been a pawn of her father's schemes and illegal activities all her life. When he loses at a poker game in the VIP room of a casino owned by Radomir Molchanov he offers her to pay his debts. Before she can be "secured" she creates chaos and escapes using the skills her father taught her. However, she does not stay free for long. As frightened as Leigh is, she cannot help but be attracted to Radomir.
As she lives in his world, her lost memories start coming back to her. Memories of icy blue eyes and blood everywhere. Who is she, really? If her memories come back will Radomir hate her? Will these memories lead to her death? And how will Radomir feel about his baby she carries and is afraid to tell him about?
A real roller coaster of a book with lots of thrill, heat and romance.
This ends in a cliff hanger but the second book is out already and yes I will be giving that one a good review also.
OMG 😱 BEST MAFIA DRAMA EVER!!!!Enjoyed it so much!!! It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was intense. I was on the verge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it literally down. It was addicted and mind blowing of danger and money. Leigh has always been a pond in her father scheme in Las Vegas where they reside at. Her father try to sell her to highest bidder and that bidder was Radomir Molchanov he offers her to pay his debts. When they meet a sparked had ignited between them and it was like love and hate and with a hint of affection. The chemistry between them was captivating and the physical attraction was sexual tension. She never thought that she felt something for him or even love him in that moment. One night with will change everything that she knows and loves. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones
Wicked Embers was a fantastic mafia romance. I really liked the storyline. And the characters didn’t disappoint. This was the perfect amount plot and spice. A dark mafia romance with Beauty and the Beast vibes. With a fiery FMC and a morally gray MMC with a heart that only beats for his woman. The characters have not only amazing chemistry, but also banter full of fire.
This series starts off with a swift hit when Leigh finds herself commodity after her father loses a bet to Radomir. She fights her way free only to be captured in the end. Radomir and his cousins are looking for the woman known as the Greek Matriarch because they believe that she killed their family. Leigh has lost ten years of her life and can't remember them but being enclosed with Radomir brings forth images and the revelation that she is this woman. How will it end for Leigh when Radomir learns her true identity?
Leigh is trying her best to get out of Vegas and go to LA. She checks her bank balance and it shows there it’s nothing there. She knows instantly that her dad has cleared out her account again. She gets a cab and heads to the casino she knows he’ll be at. He’s at the high stakes poker table and she knows he’s losing as usual. Radomir is the owner of the casino. He is in the Russian Bratva. Radomir tells Leigh’s father he was all in but mark bets Leigh. Radomir wins. Leigh goes after her dad sprays him with pepper spray then punches him in his jaw. Radomir is fascinating by her and the chaos she has bought to the casino. Radomir sends his men after her. This is a phenomenal book that keeps you wondering what happens next. The characters and the storyline will keep you wanting more
Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Media for providing me with an advanced listener copy of this book.
This was such a fast-paced and addictive listen—I couldn’t put it down and ended up finishing it in a single day. The narrators, Erik Bloomquist and Leanne Woodward, did a phenomenal job bringing the characters to life, adding depth and intensity to the story.
Kat Steele builds a rich and gritty mafia world that feels both sinister and captivating. The plot is layered, gripping, and undeniably hot, keeping me hooked from start to finish. While the story does end on a cliffhanger, it only left me more excited to see where things will go next.
Overall, Wicked Embers is a thrilling, steamy mafia romance that delivers on both atmosphere and intensity. I’m definitely looking forward to continuing the series.
This book is a masterclass in mafia romance—intense, seductive, and packed with enough spice to keep your heart racing. From the very first chapter, the intrigue wraps around you like smoke, pulling you deeper into a world of danger, desire, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. The plot unfolds like a high-stakes chess game, with every move laced in tension. The romance? Absolutely electric. The chemistry between the leads is explosive, and the “will-they-won’t-they” dynamic keeps you flipping pages just to see what happens next. It’s not just about the heat—it’s about the emotional stakes, the betrayals, the loyalty, and the raw vulnerability beneath the bravado. If you love stories where passion collides with power, and every chapter leaves you breathless, this one’s a must-read. It’s the kind of book you devour in one sitting and then immediately want to talk about
This was a well written drama. Leigh is not who we think she is in the beginning but the man she knew as her father raised her to be well prepared for many different scenarios. Even though Radomir won her, he finds himself falling for her and wanting to keep her safe as well as trying to figure out who and why his businesses are being attacked. There are so many characters that are not whom they portray to be. This is one of many of the unanswered questions in this drama. We still don't know why Leigh was left with Mark to raise. What does the key and book have to do with why the Ice Man is after i? I hope it is worth the wait in the next book.
A dark mafia romance with Beauty and the Beast vibes. Kat Steele created an addictive story full of heat, action, and suspense.
With a fiery FMC and a morally gray MMC with a heart that only beats for his woman. The characters have not only amazing chemistry, but also banter full of fire.
Narrators Erik Bloomquist and Leanne Woodward bring the characters to life delivering the story conveying the author's intent spot on. Both narrators have inviting voices that are easy and pleasant to listen to. I didn't want the story to end, loving the plot and characters.
I was left eager for the continuation of Leigh and Radomir's exciting story after that cliffhanger.
Thank you NetGalley and Kat Steele for the opportunity to listen to the ARC audiobook.
Wicked Embers was a fantastic mafia romance. I really liked the storyline. And the characters didn’t disappoint. This was the perfect amount plot and spice. I haven’t read a lot of mafia dark romances, but I really like them. It’s a good escape from the normal day to day grind. I also feel like you can’t be in a bad mood while reading a book like this which is nice, lol. Anyways, I didn’t see the ending coming and it ends on a cliffhanger so can’t wait to read the next book. This is my first book I’ve read by Kat Steele but it for sure won’t be my last. I listened to the audiobook and both of the narrators did a great job. ❤️
I would like to thank Tantor Media and NetGalley for giving me an ARC (which did not sway my opinions or review).
0.5 ⭐ for the story 1.5 ⭐ for the narration. Wicked embers is a dark mafia romance set in Vegas with a forced marriage trope and a stokholm syndrome vibe. It's part one of a duet and ends in a cliffhanger.
I personally listened to the audiobook which was interpreted in dual narration by Erik Bloomquist and Leanne Woodward and I genuinely think they elevated the story fitting perfectly with the vibe of the characters.
I hadn't read mafia romance in a while and even if I had enjoyed some in the past (some I really liked) this one was a reminder of most things I dislike in the genre. Everything in this book was really bonkers: - starting from the characters that act on whims and lack coherence. The MMC seams like a failed mixture between a heartless mob boss (especially with the heroine) and a himbo with his family and when he's supposed to show leadership of any kind. The heroine is just there for half of the book and everything she does is never her own decision but only a reaction to other characters. None of the characters are relatable and I never cared about them. - going into the relationship: it's more an abusive lusterfuck than a romance really. she hates him but then they fuck and she loves him?? and sometimes not even that it's just this on and off in her head because they don't even talk that much. And I say abusive because their first time is more coercion than consent but yeah, that gave me the ick. She's also a virgin (not that it wouldn't be bad anyway but yeah double ick) - and finishing with the plot that I it was just a mix of tropes bad executed. There is a mystery around our heroine past that intertwines with the hero's present situation. The main problem for me was that they felt more like spectators of their own story: most of the plot hero and heroine are separated and almost never speak of what's going on. the hero doesn't actively discovers things but they're told to him. Also even when things involve directly the heroine he never speaks about it with her but with his family / collaborators instead?? I really didn't liked that. It could've had power couple vibes but their never equal in the relationship and even when they're both supposed to be " badasses" none of them is.
In conclusion It's not a boring book, especially thanks to the dual narration and if you're looking for a action pack telenovela it might entertain you. Unfortunately it wasn't my vibe and I don't think I will continue with part 2.
This was kindly given to me by RB media as a review ALC. All opinions and
This book had all the usual ingredients of a mafia romance—an intimidating boss, a kidnapped heroine, and the inevitable fall into love. I enjoy this trope, but the first half really dragged for me. It felt predictable and hard to stay invested. The second half definitely improved in terms of storyline; the pacing was smoother and there was more tension to keep me reading. Unfortunately, the characters never really came to life. Both the hero and heroine stayed pretty flat, which made it difficult to fully connect with them or care about their relationship. Overall, it wasn’t a bad read, but it leaned too heavily on stereotypes without offering much depth. Worth finishing, but not one I’d revisit.

Leigh and Radomir
This story was full of twists and turns. The characters were interesting. Leigh is a strong character. She was raised by a on artist and was planning her escape from him and her life. Just when she was ready to make her move she finds herself in a bad situation. Her father sold her to the Bratva King. Radomir likes order and control. Leigh turns his world upside down. There are a lot if plot twists, lies, and secrets. It all comes crashing down into a cliffhanger. Looking forward to seeing how all this comes to an eventual HEA.
The narrators were perfect and gave us a good story. Their pacing was good.
Leigh Dalton has been the pawn in her father's game all of her life. A gambling addict who lost his final hand and his daughter in one swoop. Radomir Molchanov is the King of Vegas, Owner of the Diamond Hotel and Casino, Head of the Molchanov Bratva and the one who won Leigh in a game thanks to her loser father. Things get really complicated in thier intense journey. Wicked Embers is a suspenseful, gritty read that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. This author has taken us on quite a ride in book 1 of the Molchanov Bratva duet. I can't wait to see how they're journey wraps up in Sinful Embers.
