So I liked this book and I had to keep reminding my self of the genre. It’s a Chic Lit.
Which is all fine and dandy, but it explains why the story really take a long time to get to the conclusion.
I felt utter sorry for Dan and his daughter. The loose of his wife and her mother was a huge blow. And just living and surviving after isn’t easy. So when their beloved pet is stolen you can imagine the devastation.
Andrea is getting over a divorce I say that but does one really get over a divorce? Her story too breaks my heart. But she is so kind hearted you just know she is going to bounce back. I loved how big her heart is.
The story is about how each person heals after time and how a dog can bring anyone together. It’s a good story. I think if there had been more detail in the last 2 chapters, made us really believe in finding love and that it wasn’t so rushed I would have actually like this story more.
Overall I am glad I listened to it. I like the characters. I didn’t once think oh I won’t finish the book, because I really wanted to know how it was going to work out.
I very much enjoyed the narration as well.
*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*
4.5☆ Tears! But, these are happy tears because the dog lives and the ending is a "happily ever-after."
Hello, Love is touted as a love story but that description really isn't quite right. It is correct to call it a love story when examining the connection between people and their dogs.
Anni, the pup of the novel, is so loved by the people who are lucky enough to become her people. After being stolen, and mistreated, by two abhorrent man-boys, Anni is rescued, and loved, by Andrea. Anni is the balm Andrea needed after her nasty divorce pulling Andrea out of her funk and helping her live again.
Meanwhile, Dan and Lindsey, father and daughter, are going through anguish after Anni is dog-napped. Anni has proven to be the best grief counselor for Dan and Lindsey after the death of Dan's wife and Lindsey's mother. When Anni is stolen from them they go to all lengths possible to try and find her.
In a six degrees of separation way Dan and Andrea circle each other with missed opportunities to truly meet. In a magical series of events and revelations Dan and Andrea finally get the chance to meet only to have an accident with Anni derail the meeting. But, through Dan's persistence to find Anni he and Andrea come together. In the end everyone, especially Anni, is where they need to be.
I borrowed Hello, Love through Prime Reading and I am so happy that I did.
I don't normally choose books that fall under the romance genre, but as a dog-lover, I don't know how I could have resisted the sweet, puppy face on the cover! With head cocked to one side, those big brown eyes just beg for this book to be read - and the book opens with the same scene from that movie, Return To Me, that always makes me cry - the dog waits at the door for her deceased loved one's arrival home while the bereft husband watches with his own heart breaking all over again...
With an opening scene like that, it's impossible to stop reading - I read it in one sitting! It's a sweet love story built heavily upon coincidence and plenty of Homeward Bound-like near-misses at encounters between the two main characters. It's a sweetly magical story and definitely heartwarming. The ending feels a bit rushed, but it is still a satisfying conclusion and while I am not a usual reader for the genre, this PG-romance is definitely right up my alley! I am happy to have read this very sweet story!
I read this book in a day!!! I could NOT put it down! As a dog lover and mother I grew so wrapped up in Anni's story. I just had to know what was going to happen to the poor girl next. And, the way she brought 2 people together that were so deserving of each other was truly inspiring!!! It makes me want to write down my order and send it out to the universe, just to see what happens!!! This is a story I could read many times, it really tugs at the heart strings, it makes you laugh, it makes you cry, it makes you ponder the reality of a deceased loved one come to you in a dream to give you a message!!! Very well written, this one will live on my kindle, never to be deleted!!! I may be partial to this story because I have dogs and love them so much and would die if they were kidnapped, the way Anni acts is just like how my babies are to a T. I'm also a nurse who works on a memory impaired unit, just like the place that gets visited so much in the story. Just an awe inspiring story, thank you Karen McQuestion, for such a heartwarming story! You have increased my faith in humanity!!!!!
After the death of his wife, Dan is in a holding pattern. He lives for his daughter, his dog and work. When Anni, the dog is stolen from his yard he and his daughter are devastated and immediately start a desperate search for her.
Andrea works as an office manager for a property manager but she pretty much runs the business. When tenants complain about a dog in one of the apartments she manages she takes it on herself to get to the bottom of the complaint. What she finds is Anni chained on a balcony in the snow. Impulsively she takes Anni and they quickly become inseparable.
Hello Love is a pretty good, very sweet little love story. It mostly works but the constant missing each other by minutes got to be a little too much. I mean she goes down the elevator just as he's going up. They bump into each other at a coffee shop the one day she hasn't got Anni with her...and on and on. To be honest I was getting a little frustrated with it all by the end but the author seemed to realise this and decided to tie things up. It dragged a little in the middle but the ending was great.
When Dan loses his wife, his dog Anni is a big factor in helping him and his daughter pull through their grief. When Anni gets stolen, it's hard for Dan to accept she's gone and he doesn't want to give up on her. Andrea is healing from a painful divorce when she saves Anni from an apartment of young men not treating her right, and soon discovers a dog can be a girl's best friend. Will Anni find Dan again, but will Andrea be able to give her up if she does?
This book was a super sweet contemporary and I throughly enjoyed it. I really liked seeing the bond between both Dan and Anni, and Andrea and Anni. Dog people are the best people, and I think I want to go to Cafe Mocha with my dogs! This was a really fast read and it could be enjoyably frustrating at times when Dan came so close to finding Anni again and again. I did like the ending overall, though I do think a lot of stuff got summed up very quickly in the last chapter, and I feel like there could have been more done. I also think there would have been room for a nice sequel to this that could
Sorry to say it, but this is one of the worst books I have read in the last 1-2 years. The plot line is so predictable that it's a bore to read. It's painful to watch how the author struggles to make Dan and Andrea NOT meet, so that the "suspense" is held a little while longer. The positive characters are too positive and the negative ones are too negative, while they are not described well enough to actually understand what kind of people they are, what they think, what their beliefs are, etc. They are just sketches going around mechanically, in a way the reader can easily guess by him/herself. And after the book finally manages to close the conflict, it ends with the most corny marriage proposal one could think of, really embarrassing. Not to speak about the way the author almost runs through the closing part of the book, like she just wants to resolve all open ends and finish with it. One might say that I shouldn't have had any high expectation from a book of this category, and I didn't, but I compared it with the other chick-lit I read, not with Dostoievski, and it still comes out bad. Even the cover is so cheesy - the title ("Hello Love" is too telling) and the picture of a nice dog meant to soften our hearts to buy - all is so obvious, I should have known better. Lesson learned.
His dog, Anni, has played an important role while he and his daughter work through their grief. When Anni is dognapped, they are both devastated all over again.
Christine is recently divorced. She ends up rescuing an abused dog from tenants in a building she manages. It's Anni. Anni helps her adjust to single life again by providing companionship and love.
Most of the book is dedicated to how fate is trying to bring Dan and Christine together, presumably through the dog.
I liked this one, but it was also a little bit of a let down too. There was so much build up and anticipation for how Dan and Christine were going to get together, but then when it happened, the action just kind of fizzled out and became uninteresting. It was still a cute book but it could have been better.
This book is a romantic novel that is very much a 'chic flick.' I enjoyed it but will give it 4 stars so the other tough guys will not think I am going soft. I have a whole lot of categories but don't have one for 'dogs-romance.' I read it because it is on Wesley Banks list of '100 Dog Books of all Time' that he created using some kind of algorithm. Now I can check it off that list.
I imagine if there is a checklist for romantic novels there is a checklist of usual elements and this book checks off a lot of them. Dog books could have a checklist too and there is some checked here. The important thing seems to be to have a dog on the cover of the book and have one in the book. There is enough dog in the book I can consider it a dog book but it is mostly a ROMANTIC NOVEL. As I said, I still liked it. It is made up in short chapters, moved along quickly and I thought it was a fun read.
I like to include quotes from the book in my reviews. I didn't see anything regarding the dog that stood out. I looked at the quotes already in GR for this book and a lot where on a spiritual event the main lady character is dragged to. There was not a quote from that part that contains the title which is: "Maybe the very thing you’ve been wanting has been circling around you the entire time., just waiting for you to call its name. So it’s time to say “hello, love!’ or ‘hello, new job!’ or ‘hello, energy’ or whatever it is you need to become fulfilled. Someone is going to get it. Why not you?"
The book relies on several convenient coincidences. I want to believe in miracles so I just went with them and enjoyed the story. In case you might wonder what to say if you find yourself in one, here is what she did and said when finding out: Andrea put her hand up to her forehead. “I’m sorry, I just need a minute here.” She blinked a few times and cleared her throat. “This is unbelievable.”
So if you like romantic novels you will probably really enjoy the book. There is enough to make it a dog book, but there would be a lot more books I would recommend if you were really looking for a 'dog book.'
I'm so disappointed in this book, as it started off with such promise, for approximately 80% of the book I was wondering when the H and h would meet up and start their romance, as the constant just missing each other, and the repetitiveness of them just missing each other was just boring. The last 20% of the book was just rushed and i felt duped after sticking with the book for the big climatic, explosive, heartwarming realization of what they were to one another, only to have it skimmed over and was indeed the shortest part of the story.
I like my romance stories to be bursting out of the box with mushy, fuzzy, butterflies in the belly feelings, and with this being a very tame book I'd even be happy with a slight bit of cheese thrown in. Unfortunately it lacked all of the aforementioned in my opinion. Sad but true :-(
Dan and his daughter Lindsay are grieving over the loss of Christine (wife and mother), when their dog Anni is stolen from in front of their house. They struggle through more loss while trying to maintain hope.
Meanwhile, Andrea finds a dog being abused in one of the properties she manages and steals her from the abusers. Also, after a messy divorce, she is struggling to find her own voice and place in life.
Yes, we all know this is the same dog and all the players' paths indirectly cross until the time comes when they realize Andrea's Anni is Dan and Lindsay's Anni.
It is a fun book though - A bit of Comedy of Errors and hints at future romance. Still, a feel-good story that is quite enjoyable!
Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. - Roger Caras
I was really in the mood for this book with its little dog and appealing characters.
Dan is a widower with a teenage daughter and they have a little dog, Anni, that has made life bearable since their wife/mother passed away. Then little Anni is stolen.
Andrea went through a rough divorce, is just recovering from it, and happens upon a little dog named Anni that she rescues.
HELLO LOVE is the story of how the main characters in the book keep "just" missing each other.
Lovely story with no bad language (that I can remember) and no sex scenes. It is just a sweet story (without being syrupy) about people that need each other - and a little dog named Anni.
NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It grabbed at my heartstrings from the first page and didn't let go. It was the kind of book that was hard for me to put down and get other things done (like go to work!) because I just kept thinking about it. The characters (that's the "good guys")are drawn as people you would want to have in your life, and insert a dog into the storyline, and yup, I'm hooked. Great book!
I wish there were a way to rate it 2 1/2 stars. This book had potential but hasn't reached it for me. It was too drawn out for my taste. I would have liked to seen more of Andrea and Dan's relationship bloom, rather then all the other nonsense. It actually gave me knots in my stomach with every missed encounter that they had. I can't wait to be done with it. Sorry Karen.
Hello Love by Karen McQuestion is a book that brought out so many emotions while reading it. There is humor, sadness, frustration and happiness. I do not think it is easy to write a book that is able to make the reader feel all of that, but that is exactly what Karen McQuestion managed to do.
Dan has lost his wife to cancer and he is having a difficult time moving on with his life. He and his daughter, Lindsay, are just trying to get by a day at a time. They have each other, and their dog Anni, and they know that life must go n. But when Anni is stolen, it is almost too much for them to bear. As months pass with no sign of Anni, Dan realizes that they have lost her, too, forever. But Lindsay refuses to give up hope. She is sure that her mother is visiting her in her dreams and is trying to lead them back to Anni.
Andrea is trying to deal with her own pain and problems. She is dealing with a divorce from her cheating husband and trying to get back out and mingle with others. After going with her friend to a workshop designed to create your own future, her life begins to turn around. She rescues Anni from an abusive situation and falls in love with her. She may not have found a man but she now has a dog that she loves with all her heart. When her ex starts coming around again to try to reconcile, she knows that she no longer loves him and is better off without him. Now she just has to convince him of that.
This book is one that pulled me in from the very beginning and never let me go. There are so many different feelings that I experienced while reading. There are parts in the book that are funny, there are parts in the book that made me really sad. A lot of the time I was feeling frustrated because, although Dan and Andrea have a chance meeting, they kept just missing each other concerning Anni. It was a good frustration, the kind where you just think, “no don’t leave yet, just wait and you’ll see Anni” but the author had other ideas. Then just when you thing “finally”, a tragedy happens. There is suspense concerning Anni and Andrea’s ex and I had to keep swiping pages to see what was going to happen.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The characters are well developed and three dimensional and I enjoyed learning about them and getting to know them. The supporting characters are well developed too and added a lot to the story. And Anni is a dog I would love to meet.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted heartwarming book about second chances. You do not have to be a dog-lover to enjoy this book, but I think if you are you will enjoy it even more. Just looking at the cover made me want to read this book. I have not read any other books by Karen McQuestion, but if they are all this good, I am going to enjoy reading them.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. And my honest opinion is that this is a great read. I would like to thank NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Eu o recomand.
It takes a lot for me to give 5 stars and this book earned it. I Googled humorous books and for whatever reason, this came up. It's not at all humorous but was so good, I absolutely loved it and the style of story telling between the 2 main characters. Plus, I wholeheartedly love dogs so I was willing to give it a chance based on that and I'm glad I did, It tugged at my heartstrings and had I not been reading it at work, would've been a ball of tears. Definitely recommend to anyone interested in dogs or missed connections.
A sweet little book about people getting a second chance at love -- and some getting their just desserts. Most of the storylines are intertwined, and it becomes clearer as the story progresses. I found myself rooting for the good guys, wanting it all to work out earlier in the story, but it would've been a shorter book at that point! And a dog plays matchmaker in a way, so can't get better than that.
A very good build up and tense read. Love of dogs and people. Thought I was reading Nicholas Sparks. Background character descripters were believable and real to my experience. Appreciate that no bad language, and the right amount of restraint toward difficult people. Medical scenerios accurate, I was right there in the moment. Couldn't put down till the finish!
A classic protracted love story with near meetings and peeks and valleys. It was encased with some traumatic elements and a pet. I loved the balance, the characters and the ending. I liked this one quite a bit. good stuff.
Aw!!! Who doesn't love a romantic story complete with a gorgeous dog in it? Dan is a widower who is getting over losing his wife, with his daughter Lindsay grieving for her mother. Anni, their dog is one element of their life that keeps things on an even keel. Andrea's a recently divorced woman, who isn't sure of the path of her future, since her separation. The sudden disappearance of Anni causes shock and upset within Dan and Lindsay's life. Meanwhile, a complaint about a barking dog in one of her boss's flats leads Andrea to the dramatic rescue of a traumatised pup. A missing dog. A rescued dog. A coincidence? You'll need to read the book to find out exactly what happens, but I really enjoyed the story and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this lovely tale (tail).
I really enjoyed this story. Its about a dog named Anni who was dog napped by frat boys. The dog belongs to a gentleman and his teen daughter, whom lost their wife/mother. The daughter will be leaving home soon to go to college leaving her father alone. But Anni is found by a lady name Andrea Keller who falls in love with the cute dog. Not to mention the kind neighbor Cliff, Aunt Doreen, Aunt Nadine (who is in the nursing home with dementia) And Andrea's gram who is also in the nursing home. The characters are connected with one another and don't even know it. Anyway loved the book, my first by this author.
Yet again, another great read. My 3rd McQuestion book and I'm starting to feel like I'm not gonna come across one that I don't like (which is good!).
Warning! You will need tissues for this one. I highlighted some key passages for myself, especially one in a scene while Andrea was visiting her Gram who is suffering from dementia. That brought up some feelings that I highly related to and I bawled my eyes out.
Ms. McQuestion has such a way with words and has a knack for filling the reader's soul with the emotions she is trying to portray in her writing. Like I said, be prepared with tissues.
10/10 would recommend,especially since it's based around a dog! 💗
Slightly predictable story about a windower, his daughter, and their dog Anni. Dan and his daughter are dealing with the loss of their wife and mother when Anni is stolen from them by two drunk college students. Andrea, a divorcee, saves the dog from these cruel men and immediately falls in love with the little pup. Dan and Andrea cross paths a number of times throughout the story before they finally connect with each other and Anni. A heart warming chit lit you perfect for listening to and from work or while cleaning the house.
Let me say at the beginning that I’m not a romance reader but I’m a sucker for dog stories. That said, this book for me was entertaining, light, predictable with likable characters. It seemed to linger too long on situations and experiences that were easy to comprehend in a few sentences. Then, the happy ending which we knew was coming, just came and the novel was over. I would give it a 3 1/2 but the system doesn’t allow for that.
