Embercore 1: Splintersoul

Rate this book
Pirin is done playing by the rules.
Pirin, a young king of a tiny backwater nation, was born with an arcane deficiency. He’ll always be a step behind the other mages. In a world where monsters linger around every corner, where empires encroach on the kingdom’s borders, no one can tolerate a weak ruler. Everyone looks down on him. They shun him. Try to make him disappear.

He’s an Embercore—a magical cripple. Born with a broken core, his arcane techniques and psychic bloodline abilities are more likely to blow up in his face than work properly.

But unstable magic can be devastating if used just right.

Armed with nothing but stubborn determination, he sets out to fix his core and push the absolute limits of his magic. Between immense pulses of raw mana, memory manipulation, and a growing arcane bond with a giant sparrow, he’ll need to master every ability and every trick he has.

He’ll show them the power of an Embercore—why they should never have underestimated him.

Embercore is an action-packed progression fantasy in a world where an arcane bond with an animal grants superhuman powers. For fans of progression fantasy, vast cultivation epics, and stubborn heroes who won’t accept their lot in life.

This feels like a bunch of random tasks that he's inventing on the fly. I mean that's fine, but it shouldn't *read* like that, should it? You want to feel there's more to it than a succession of fetch quests. The writing was good but I never felt like any of it mattered. Maybe if the main character had more depth than 'mildly frustrated a lot'.

A Fantastic start to a new series

I read a lot of kindle books, I rarely write reviews. A book has to be outstanding and novel to hold my attention. I really enjoyed this. Congratulations to the author.
