What if you'd been in love with your best friend for six thousand years? What if she was supposedly the antithesis of everything you are? Or if you weren't even supposed to be capable of love? Would you be brave enough to tell her?
Nessa is a demon and Ophelia is an angel. They shouldn’t even be friends. They are actually official rivals; each representing their realm in the North of England, but really they are madly in love. The two have been best friends for thousands of years, since they discovered that surprisingly, their morals tend to however, over the years they fell in love with each other. With growing unrest between Heaven and Hell and the threat of war - or worse, apocalypse - the two must discover how far they are willing to go for each other and whether their love is stronger than their fear.
Along with new friends, they learn that life is a lot more complex than their bosses have always insisted, and maybe things aren't as simple as 'good' or 'bad'. As they fight for each other and what they believe in, they start to wonder if they really can find a grey area between good and evil, away from the rules of both Heaven and Hell; a place where they can finally be together…
Romy has wanted to be an author since she was a child, and was always making up stories, but she hated writing on paper. Luckily, keyboards exist! She started writing 'Fallen Feathers' inspired by her love of the TV programme 'Good Omens' in late December 2023, and by August had written the first three books in a series about LGBT angels and demons in love.
While this is her first book, Romy has written a few other projects in various formats, and regularly writes articles and reviews for the popular theatre review site 'West End Best Friend' as well as magazine articles in publications such as 'The Historians Magazine'.
As well as a writer, Romy is also a historian and is undertaking a Masters Degree in Museum Studies. She is also very involved in theatre; often performing in pantomimes, musicals, and plays; directing pantomimes; and designing props and posters following her degree in Graphic Design. She also sometimes works in TV.
Romy lives in the North of England (that's why all her characters tend to be reyt Northern) with her lovely family and two sweet kittens!
Nessa and Ophelia were so cute! I absolutely adored them! Seeing their struggles with not fitting in where they were supposed to and feeling too good or too bad for their designated roles was such a great plot. I loved how much they loved each other and would constantly do everything they could to help each other. Ezra and Beelzebub were fantastic side characters. Ezra made me laugh out a couple of times. I really loved seeing how much all of the characters grew and learned that everything isn’t pure good or evil. Cannot wait to read the next book!
I have had the privilege of reading a draft version of this book and all I can say is wow. From start to finish you become invested in the characters, wanting to know more about them, along the way they get into situation that make you want to carry on reading to see if, or how, they get out of them. The character are really relatable, even if they are demons and angels, and set in the beautiful city of York. You can feel how much the author loves these characters as she writes. Absolutely must read and can't wait for book two.
Such an amazing book! There are very few LGBTQ+ books out there that are well-written and this one is the best that I have found. The characters are sharply defined and the plot is consistent and engaging.
I loved this book. It brought a different light and different story than what I had been reading. I loved that despite everything against them. They were still them. They braved to be bold and go against everything that was in their way as an obstacle. An angel and a demon, who could of thought that who the universe designed you to be an enemy of would not only be your best friend but the person you love 100%. This book was definitely worth the read, and I would recommend it to anyone that needs a good read! I definitely can't wait to read more of this series.
I have been lucky enough to read this book before its release. I adored it. It's a beautiful sapphic love story between an angel and a demon. Not my usual genre, but honestly, this story is more about the romance for me. A gorgeous tale of true soulmates. If you're in the mood for a sweet love story in which the protagonists overcome impossible-seeming obstacles, this is the book for you. It kept me guessing and cheering Nessa and Ophelia on until the last page.
Fallen Feathers as promised is an obvious love letter to Good Omens and I mean that in the best way possible. Nessa and Ophelia have so much heart, their mutual pining had me turning pages quickly.
Dual POV each FMC trading off each chapter, though there are times when the perspective changes mid-chapter. There are designated chapters where Nessa, shows how she fell or specific instances over time that impacted their relationship. Or the moments where they felt their feelings for each other shift to romance rather than just odd attraction/obsession.
There does seem to be one catastrophe after another where they almost lose each other from the middle onwards. And of course, we get an impending destruction of the earth to get in the way of them expressing their feelings to each other, when they do finally express their feelings, strap in folx! These confessions are top-tier swoon-worthy love confessions.
The author does a good job of illustrating how oppressive the need to be perfect at all times and the fear that comes with trying to meet that expectation. I absolutely adored Ezra as well! I very much appreciate when there is that one friend that absolutely knows the two MC's love each other and are just dancing around it, who calls them out on it! Overall it was a very enjoyable “forbidden” love story that takes place while trying to stop the end of the world. If you’re a sapphic who loved Good Omens, I think you’ll enjoy this story as well.
I may still have some lingering questions, but it didn't really bother me because I enjoyed the story and the sapphic representation so much. I am very intrigued by the upcoming sequel Grey Feathers. Especially since time travel is usually a pretty tricky beast. I look forward to reading that one when it's released as well.
