Whatever It Takes

Rate this book
Briar needs help. She knows what it's like to walk out of a dangerous situation and straight into the unknown. That's what brings her to Shadow Security—only a case of mistaken identity leads her to accept a job that was never actually intended for her.

Things look up when she catches the eye of one of the guys at work, but they take a downturn fast when she realizes he has no intention of staying faithful. Luckily, her handsome coworkers are there to help pick up the pieces, but everything compounds as the past catches up at the worst possible time.

Briar doesn't want to run again, but she has big secrets that her overbearing boss and mercenary coworkers know nothing about.

Shadow Security didn't earn its reputation as one of the most ruthless private security companies in the country for nothing, but will that be enough? Will they even want to protect her when they realize how high the stakes are, and who they're truly up against?

Whatever It Takes is a complete standalone with no cliffhanger and serves as a short prequel to introduce Shadow Security.

MOVE OVER PREGNANT OMEGAS.. ITS OFFICIALLY THE YEAR OF THE UNHINGED PSYCHOTIC OBSESSED ALPHAS AND IM HERE FOR IT.

And by “year of,” I mean specifically Jillian West books. And with my statement I’m honestly just guessing I have absolutely no insider knowledge. Really, it’s a drastic hope because I’ve read every single JW book ever released and NOTHING compares to Easton.

He was unbelievably, psychotically obsessed with Briar and I honestly was here for ever mfing second. The best part was his two coworkers/friends/men who somehow signed their soul over to him were just like “yeah well, thats Easton. He’s psycho but we love him anyways,” like they didnt make ANY excuses for him. He just was like he was and they knew they could not control him so they kinda just went behind him to make sure Briar was cool and clean up his messes and called it a day😂

I swear to GOD Easton is now my fave JW Alpha ever.

Thats not to say I didnt LOVE Keir and Calder.. I totally did. Especially Keir. He was total daddy vibes with a dirty mouth and he was SO sweet to Briar. And Calder? The fact that he was so nerdy and awkward but did things like go out and buy the office a new coffee maker and coffee because he saw Briar didnt like the stuff they had? *swoon*

Ok now that I’ve swooned over and over about the alphas, I should probably get into the meat of the story.

Briar is the daughter and sister of a mafia jerk. At her wedding (to an alpha she was sold off to), some third party showed up and essentially unalived everyone. An undercover FBI agent was able to get Briar out, but because she literally knew NOTHING about her dad or brother’s operations, they kinda just gave her the bare minimum of a fake identity and sent her on her way.

So she decides shes gonna go to a private firm to ask for help. But when she shows up at this small private security firm, Calder mistakes her for someone coming to interview for the assistant position for their CEO, Easton. So Briar is like “well fuck it I’ll just do this and maybe they’ll come to like me as a friend and give me a discount because I can NOT afford private security.”

So she gets into the interview and Easton sees her and is IMMEDIATELY obsessed with her. Keir and Calder are quick to follow him. But as things move foward and the longer Briar is there, the more scared she gets that her cover is going to be blown and her brother is going to find her.

Honestly this is probably my fave JW book ever written. I had a feeling she was getting into her “unhinged alphas” era after her last release but they had NOTHING on Easton. I can’t WAIT to see more from this group.. and i love love love how all her stories are somehow intertwined!

5 stars, as per usual!

2.5* Liked the idea of this being a darker read, as I do prefer morally grey characters. But I don't know, this just didn't hold my attention as much and I felt myself skimming pages and ended up DNF the last few chapters.
The writing itself was good and flowed well, but it just felt a little like it was rushed, you meet the FMC after what happens with her family. Then she has her interview with the company...but the author skips to months ahead so you miss any part of the MCs all working together and slowly getting know each other. I wanted a little more heat and build up to it all I think, I wanted to watch the MMC interest and obsession grow as they got to know her.

ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Kidnapping Briar was easier than I expected. It’s disturbing to realize how well I fit in with my coworkers. I might like to pretend I’m morally superior to them, but when it comes down to it, I’m just as fucked up.

Another five-star read from the talented OV Queen, Jillian West! Perhaps a bit darker than we’re used to from Jillian, even as the MMCs cross that morally grey line, they are ALL IN for their omega.

I know Easton was meant to be the villain, but it’s hard not to fall for a man who has no boundaries when it comes to making Blair his. What’s wrong with some light kidnapping and forced proximity if it means you get the girl in the end?

As well as Jillian has written her more psycho MMCs, she has the magic touch for the golden retriever MMC, too. I feel like she’s always giving me a gift with these virgin MMCs. Calder made me feel all gooey inside.

Let’s not forget Keir with his big Daddy energy and Scottish accent. Yes please, I’ll take them all!

This is a fast burn and very spicy why choose Omegaverse romance with lots of OV goodies - scent matches, soul matches, heat, slick, knotting, claimings, and group sexy time! This one does not include pregnancy, not even in the epilogues.

Able to be read as a complete standalone, Briar and her pack get their HEA.

Highly recommended to all you OV lovers!

Thank you Jillian West for the ARC.

Yall I absolutely can not with this book. I lost track of how many times I giggled and kicked my feet. Easton is the prime example of if he wanted to he would 😂.

This whole book was just 🤌🤌🤌. The relationship growth between them all was really nice, especially Calder. He just seems so sweet and shy and deserves to be protected at all costs. Watching Briar go from basically a shit life where she was just used to being loved and cherished by these three men was just 🥹. The spice was spiiiiicing. Like. 👀👀👀. Spicing.

Nothing will top Easton, though. He made the entire book for me and I am absolutely feral for him 😂.

jillian has managed to make me fall in love with yet another group of alphas (shocker😂) - particularly easton!
we originally meet this security team in When She Needs Them Most and it was so fun to get their version of events that transpired at the same time. *you definitely do not have to read these in order to understand plots, it just totally added to my experience.

i love how jillian truly makes every character so unique and they each have such developed personalities!
side note: obsessed with the guinea pig storyline 🐹

My next comfort read is here! We saw Easton, Briar, Keir and Calder in the last release from Jillian. Now we finally get their book and I’m so excited! I had not realized this before, but we have seen Briar before even that book! And when she unveiled it, my mouth dropped! Just wait until you read it. Yours is going to too. She is just connecting everything and it’s such a treat. Seeing her also put in the author’s notes at the end of the book what she’s hinting at for her next releases and her next idea makes me continuously excited for her omega verse. I really want to say more about this book, but I really don’t wanna ruin it. Just know that Easton is a psycho, but he’s so freaking lovable because all he wants is his omega just like you know and expect him to because it’s a Jillian West book. Keir is our age gap king with a Scottish accent that’s too die for and how can we not love him? And Calder… he’s our smart, nerdy but still bad boy but yet innocent MMC that is so easily lovable. She just had me loving all of the MMC’s equally. I can’t wait for this to release so I can talk about it with people. And I really can’t wait for what Jillian has next.

• Omegaverse
• Age gap (Keir and Briar)
• They protect her
• Omega in hiding

"It’s that fucking simple. And I want that doe-eyed little omega almost more than I want my next breath."

About the book:
After a failed wedding has Briar on the run, she finds herself surrounded by the alphas of Shadow Security. Although it wasn't by chance that she ended up there working for them. It was the only way; she could think to stay safe. However, once they meet her, there's no turning time for these alphas. Easton, Calder, and Keir are all hooked and will do anything to keep her safe, especially the more they learn about her past!

"I have no problem offering Briar my complete protection. However, if she would like to partake in the occasional m*rder or torture session, I would fully support that course of action. "

My thoughts:
When I first fell for the omegaverse trope, it was through Jillian's writing. And since then, I have become a huge fan of every book she does. I eagerly await releases. And jump on them as soon as I'm able. And every time I'm blown away. And I swear that's the best one I've ever read by her.

HOWEVER, this book just might top all of those for me! I was swooning and cracking up multiple times. I can't get over how good this book was!

When Jillian's darker, unhinged side comes out through her morally gray alphas, I seriously can't contain my squeals. Her ability to write morally gray men is one of my favorite things. We got to see it in Grady and Ranger's characters. Who I LOVED! But now after meeting Easton, I'm obsessed with this man! Hard-core. He could do no wrong. I can't get over how perfectly unhinged he was.

And the way he kept referring to Briar as his future wife before they were even together and before he even convinced her to give him a chance had me cracking up! And then the way he got so grumpy when Briar added his two best friends to their pack and kept baiting him and bringing out his possessive side was GOLD!

Easton- “As long as you don’t want free of me, I’ll give you whatever your persnickety little heart desires. Hear me when I say this—you will be my wife. I’ll even let you keep k since you seem so fond of him.”
Briar snorts. “How generous.”

Keir- “Nature dictates the relationship between alphas and omegas, it’s that simple. More than that, sweetheart, caring for you isn’t a burden.”

Calder- "Calder is a hell of a cuddler, though. I would rate snuggling with him a ten-out-of-ten experience."

As amazing as Easton was it was the dynamic these four had together that really had me giving this book 5 stars! It was Calder's tender side, Keir's protective vibe, and Easton's obsession to make her his that had me binging this book in less than half a day! Not to mention the feisty little omega that had them all wrapped. The balance in this pack was top notch! 👏 and getting to see them start their life together!

I'm so excited to see more of this pack in the next book!!

Also. I love a Daddy K*nk.
"Fun fact, before meeting Keir, I never had the urge to call anyone Daddy… Like ever in my life, but smoking-hot, slightly older guy is a vibe I’m apparently here for."

🎧Audiobook Review🎧
Dual Narration
Narrated by Stephanie Rose and Jameson Adams

Jillian knows how to pick her narrators. I am a huge fan of both Stephanie and Jameson! And hearing them together. Ahhh, they sounded so good! Such a perfect pairing! Especially for these four characters.

Stephanie’s sweet voice brought out all my favorite things about Briar. Not just her sweet side, but also her feisty side. Which was one of my favorite things about Briar!

Jameson! My gosh, this man’s talent! I am always in awe of certain narrators' ability to go from one character to another, especially when it comes to why choose books where there are so many personalities. And each of the voices he gave these three was perfectly performed!

These three could not have been more different, too! And add in the fact that he nailed not only Keir’s accent but also his protective daddy side. I was so hooked! And unbelievably entertained!

“She hasn’t even had the opportunity to thank me for intervening with Jameson earlier, but I’m sure it’s coming”

Easton lost me here. Actually this line disgusted me so much I stopped reading, and I won’t continue to do so.

If you’re helping a woman out, when a man is being a huge asshole and laying his hands on her, ONLY BECAUSE YOU EXPECT HER TO BE GRATEFUL- huuuuh

1. You should do the right thing just because and NOT cause you expect her to be appreciated and be thankful

2. Easton has done nothing but manipulate Briar from their very first meeting. He stalks her, watches her sleep, hires a sex worker to sweet talk Briar’s then boyfriend to sleep with said sex worker, kidnaps her AND EASTON EXPECTS HER TO BE GRATEFUL???

Girl- Briar. I beg you to go to therapy honey because you have HORRIBLE taste in men.

DNF :)

Every time Jillian West releases a new book, I can’t fathom how it could top her previous work, but somehow this one does it again.

If you loved Ranger from All In, buckle up, because Easton is EVERYTHING. He’s obsessive, dark, and ruthless. He’s the most morally grey character Ms. West has ever conjured and he is nothing short of perfect. I hope he pops in as a side character in her future books because I’m not done with him.

Then there is Keir. And let me just say, Daddy’s home. And we can’t forget sweet Calder or the FMC Briar, who manages to captivate someone as stone cold as Easton.

Throw in some piercings, guinea pigs, and mafia big bads and you have yourself an epic fluffy semi-dark romance. If you don’t know what that means then you should read this yesterday.

I probably should be concerned with how much I liked Easton. I’m pretty sure a psychiatrist would have a field day with that one. This is so good. The banter is great. Hearing all of the intrusive thoughts was hilarious. Briar comes into her own and I loved when she started to talk back. The guys are amazing and a great balance. I am looking forward to this new spinoff.

I like this author and have liked her books before. This one just did not do it for me. Spoilers

I will say I just felt bored. I wanted to skim so much of what happens and then in the midst of that feeling we get a heat not heat and slip into smut off and on forever. The plot also didn't really keep my attention, her brother is a Mafia guy and that is essentially the plot. It's okay just not my favorite.

Easton's psycho tendencies I'm down for every day of the week. I feel like at times the "sweet" part of him was too sweet but hey I guess he's only that way for her.

Other than that it followed the omegaverse cliches. The guys played the three roles we always get with rh and the main character is trying to be strong willed but continues to come off as a whiny woman without a backbone.

Amazing 🙌

This is an amazing read! I've read several Jillian West books and have loved every single one of them so far. I read it all in 1 day because I could not put it down! There is mentions of characters from When She Needs Them Most but it isn't required to read before Whatever It Takes.

Check the TW as always with any book because there are a few. Definitely add this book to your TBR but its definitely worth reading immediately. Below there may be spoilers so you have been warned...⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

This book is a RH Non-shifter Omegaverse with 🚫 M/M. The characters in the book do not want kids and that could be a trigger for some readers.

I absolutely adored Calder and Keir, and was on the fence with Easton through the whole story. Mainly the accepting of becoming a pack. I just wanted to yell 'sharing is caring'. I did love how through the whole story Easton kept calling her 'his wife'. The whole story was well written and flowed smoothly. When I got to the end I was laughing so hard at the part with Matilda and Easton. I cannot wait for No Escape to be released! The little bit of Shaw that we got gives me the impression he is going to be hilarious. Happy Reading 💜

I always love being back in this world Jillian West has created. It's so fun and hot and perfectly unhinged.

I really really adored this pack. Briar is so loveable. I see a lot of comparisons of Easton and Ranger but for me he was not quite Ranger levels and that's okay! He was still a big softie psychopath. His struggle to share was so funny and I loved the dynamic between the three Alphas. I wish we had gotten more of it just because I would love to spend more time with this bunch!

Keir and Calder. I am obsessed and I cannot choose between them. Keir is so hotttt and Calder is so precious to me. I loved them so much and how sweet they were with Briar.

The plot was really low stress and low angst but still had a satisfying climax (well, technically there were many of those for this pack).

If you are interested in the omegaverse but hate that 97% of the time the stories revolve around or lead to pregnancy (can't relate but I respect it), definitely give this series a shot.

A cozy comfy omegaverse RH in which one of the alphas is pretty much a literal sociopath and the heroine is on the run after almost all of her mafia family got massacred at her wedding? Somehow it works. The sociopathic alpha really grew on me when he gave the heroine a stockpile of weapons as a courting gift. And it's one the rare childfree omegaverses! Cute violent fun with some suspense and bit of (very mild and late in the story) daddy stuff.

Girl, I don’t even know what I just read 😭 She went in to ask for their services, and then—boom—time jump. Suddenly, she’s been working for them for months, and now they’re all obsessed, ready to do whatever it takes to keep her. The pacing was wild, like someone hit fast-forward halfway through the plot. I blinked, and apparently, everyone had history, tension, and deep feelings.

Dearest Jillian, BISH you done did it again! You have had me in a chokehold from the moment I found you and with each book, I fall deeper for your work!

Now lets get into it. Yall.. did you love Ranger? If yes, because obviously you did, then you are going to want to worship at Easton’s alter babyyyy. 🧎🏻‍♀️

Next up is Calder.. i am f e r a l for sweet, nerdy types. And Jillian does an exceptional job with writing them.

And finally Kier.. i see you Dadddyyyy. Kier was the perfect addition to this group. And the way he took care of Briar had me mellting 💦

I would be a bish if i didnt mention Briar. This girl went thru it and is coming out on the other side. i am happy she is getting her HEA and I cant wait to see what comes next!

This book is a solid 10000000/5⭐️

I made the mistake of reading two Jillian West books in a row. You know how it goes with KU - they present a slew of suggestions and sometimes you click at random. My bad.

doing the dice thing

Imagine my surprise when I realized that West apparently only knows how to write a handful of characters, and not even well, I might add. The men in this book are carbon copies of the other book I read - older man with a Scottish accent and all. Seriously, cringey. What is this, paint by numbers?

But even if you haven't read West's other books and you're reading a la carte, it's still just... lacking. It's one of those books where relationships are 0-100 within the most ludicrous timeline, with a flimsy world that only exists so far as what is needed to prop up an incredibly rudimentary plot.

Unfortunately, I'm not a "vibe" reader, whatever that might be. I need ideas to be fully fleshed out, and these books just... aren't.

Note to self and possible spoiler

I seriously need to do some more research before starting a book but I trust this author generally so far I've got

FMC on the run goes to the security company of the H's and accidentally gets hired. The boss is instantly attracted to her......yet 3 months later she's living with one of the guys from the company who she met that same day.....and he's not part of her pack 🤔
Idk since when the mcs sleep with op after meeting their H in an omegaverse read 😒

I feel bad giving this only 2 stars, but sadly I found nothing likeable here. The male characters were all awful, and the female character had no personality to speak of.

This really surprised me, as I've loved other books by Jillian West and (in those books) thought she did a great job at balancing character and story development, but this one just felt like a mess.

At one third of the way through, I know next to nothing about the FMC (that wasn't already established in the first chapter) and the male leads are red flag after red flag.
