This fun collection of terrorizing tales pulls no punches when it comes to disturbing and terrifying stories. “I Woke Up During Surgery. They Weren’t Trying to Save Me” by Richard Saxon was a chilling story that might make you wonder what all the doctors are doing to you during a surgery. In “The Littlest Sheet Ghost” by Hannah Costin, a parent’s worst nightmare comes true on Halloween. “Mrs. Lumley’s Masks” by R.K. Kombrinck was one of my favorites and served as a reminder to never underestimate the elderly. “The Journal in Storage Unit #25” by Rafael Marmol was one of the creepiest of the stories. I doubt I’ll ever read another person’s journal after that. “Drip” by Matt Richardsen was a creepy campfire tale about a family that disappeared in a hotel only to reappear years later…sort of. And with “The Space Man” by A.W. Mason, Houston has a BIG problem. Short horror lovers will find plenty to sink their teeth into.
like the other two volumes in this series, this book is a collection of short stories or teasers from various authors in an attempt to get you to read their books. The book is set up to be somewhat like the old TV show Tales from the Crypt and IMHO is a very fun way to accomplish the end goal of getting people to buy the authors' books. The books being a free download is a major plus to achieve this end goal. Sadly I found that the stories in this volume were not written very well nor were they very interesting. For me that was actually a very good thing, it helped me to eliminate books and Authors for me to invest in.
TLDR of most of these stories: horrible things happen to innocent people for no discernible reason.
I’m not a fan of suffering for sufferings sake in horror, it feels lazy and mean spirited. No lingering sense of eeriness that makes me think, just damn well that sucks and now I feel bad. I liked some of the earlier Nightmare Library collections though but this one fell a bit flat to me.
