THIS IS A RE-RELEASE!!!! Please be aware that this book has been previously released under the same title.
Zacai Roberts is no stranger to grief and tragedy. For most people, Love was the cure for pain, but for him, it was the cause of it all. Love is a dangerous game that he has no interest in playing and he vows to never let anyone close enough to have that kind of power over him.
All money ain’t good money. Taima Royal learned that the hard way when one wrong decision costs her more than she was prepared to pay. Five years later, she’s starting all over again and determined to prove that her past does not define who she is.
In the hands of the right person, Love can be Powerful. Love can be Healing. Love can be exactly… What You Need
Come on Kami! My heart went out for Zacai, as he had the flashback of his youth with his toxic parents. Whew! I knew something would happen, but I was not prepared for his father’s actions! Damn! 💔 Living with grief, regret and anger, he vowed to never love if it caused you to behave like that! Thankfully he was able to grow up with his aunt and found a father figure in a man around the way, who taught him crucial life lessons. Zacai was doing well with his business, and had money to blow, but he was empty inside. Still holding on to trauma, as well as the scars that he can never be rid of! Taima! A good girl, who fell in with the wrong crowd. Her girl Sasha put her on to make some quick money, and she should have left it at that. She ignored her gut and intuition, and it cost her big time! When Zacai and Taima were reintroduced, the chemistry was already there, although they were throwing insults. There was an immediate pull toward the other that could not be understood, but they both wanted to explore. As fate would have it, Taima was put directly in Zacai’s path when he needed help at the office. This was just the push they needed to get to know each other. It was beautiful to see both begin to let down their guards and allow the ice to melt around their hearts to explore the possibility of love. Zacai was supportive and protective of Taima. He never felt that urge for any other woman. Taima took her time with Zacai and showed him that although love isn’t always easy, it is definitely worth it. Enjoyed this read. 👍👍👍
Zacai is dealing with the grief of losing the only person he loved..his mom. Taima is coming home after doing a 5 year bid. Taima and Zacai cross paths thanks to her brother..whose Zacai’s best friend. Taima needs a job and Zacai comes to rescue and temptation comes knocking. Sasha’s karma hit her hard. Zacai finally learned to let love in with Taima. The heartless giant finally learned to love again.
At the beginning of this story, I thought I was going to be perpetually sad through the bulk of the storyline. I am happy to report, that was not the case. A!though, Zacai had a tough start, this ending for him was perfectly fine. The gentle giant found his queen in Taima Royal, and her name was even appropriate too. The story was enjoyable. 4.75 stars...
I just love when I read a book and the character stick with me well after I've closed the book. Cai and Tamia were so cute together. The way Cai protected and uplifted Tamia was so beautiful. I truly enjoyed watching Tamia go from fresh out of jail to a business woman. Everything about this book pulled at my heartstrings.
Kami posted a quote from the book on TikTok and I came right on over to read it!! I love people having a second chance at life and both Zacai and Tamia needed second chances in different ways but found it in each other! The writing was great and the storyline complete! I loved it!!
I wanted to love this story but I didn't unfortunately. The biggest issues with this book is 1. It's too short. 2. It's rushed and sloppily written as it pertains to Taima and Zacai's relationship. There was literally no buildup to make you believe in them as a couple.
She comes home from jail after five years, is down because it's hard for her to get a job since she's a felon so her brother confides in Cai about it who offers her a job as his assistant. In the beginning their interactions were limited. Also Cai was a ho who had different women every night and even had sex with one of them at the job. Again the buildup was nonexistent yet somehow Cai went from being a player to randomly having a crush on Taima even though he never expressed any romantic or sexual interest in her in the previous chapters. Fast forward a few more chapters and they have sex for the first-time and suddenly he's ready to retire his hoish ways permanently.
This book had the potential to be great but it's not written well. If the author would've made it longer and gave us buildup for this couple instead of rushing their relationship to the point it's not realistic this could've easily been a 4 star read. Maybe even 5. The constant grammatical errors also stopped this story from being great. If there weren't misued words there were incomplete sentences. She needs to hire an editor pronto. If she has one already, fire them because they missed a lot. I do have another book from her that's a full length one. Hopefully the pace for that couple is much better and there are limited grammar issues. Rating for this book is 3/5.
Didn’t give all the feels I’ve come to expect from Kami
Loved this author previous releases but this book felt a little rushed and also I missed the dialogue between the main characters. It was like we got an update on intimate moments instead of being apart of the moment and that’s one of the things this author was so great on in previous books. We heard about the passion but I wanted to experience it. Dates night. The talk after she ran. The talk she or he should have had with her brother when they became serious. It was moment like those this read missed. Both main character were lovable though but it needed more.
I feel content warnings should’ve been provided for the beginning of this book. Hopefully the author will add them moving forward. This is the first book from this author and it has so much potential. Taima made a mistake that cost her years in prison and was having a hard time finding work as a felon. Her brothers best friend just so happened to be out of a secretary so she came on to help. Because of their attraction to each other, their relationship moved beyond employer/employee. I feel what this book was missing was details. The author told us what was happening and didn’t show us on the pages. I wanted to see more of her getting spoiled on page. I also expected a conversation between Taima and her brother when she final got serious with Cai. The freedom list should’ve definitely been on page. I would’ve love to see Taima celebrate her freedom on page. Their transition to lovers also had me feeling slighted. It moved so fast. Overall, it was a decent book. It has formatting issues and errors but it didn’t take away from the reading experience. More details on page next time. CW: double suicide/ mention of domestic violence
This book should still be in the drafts. The storyline had a lot of potential, but the errors took away from that. It's giving first draft on wattpad... I made it to 60% and I couldn't push through anymore. Two stars for the effort.
I loved this book from beginning to end. Cai and Taima was perfect for each other...there's nothing like not believing in love to find out the love conquers all. She was the love he need and he was the strength she yearned for...overall amazing read and I can't wait for more
Zacai was so broken and angry. It was understandable with the trauma he had been through. Taima came right in and broke down all his barriers. I need me an hilarious, ride or die friend like Nayci.
I enjoyed this story. I loved how Zacai protected and loved on Tamia. And how he opened his heart to her. They would just what the other needed. There were a few errors, but it didn't take away from the story.
Soooooo glad I read this. It was so sweet and endearing! The FMC and MMC were beautifully written. It’s a reminder that your past doesn’t have to reflect your future. Zacai and Taima were equally hurt by childhood trauma and growing up fast. In adulthood they both never thought they’d be the ones to heal and truly see the other for who they were becoming. She was always the annoying little sister of his bestie and he was the worrisome but cute bff to her brother. Time proved people can grow and change for who they deem worthy and it was no different in this beautiful story. 10/10
great instalove Black romance. I hated what Zacai went through as a kid, but I’m glad he didn’t self-destruct and ruin things with Taima. Taima trusted the wrong people and got caught up in bad decisions, but I loved seeing her get out, build her catering business, and reconnect with Zacai — her brother’s childhood best friend. It was really heartwarming watching them come together and work through their issues as a team. The epilogue was adorable too.
this was so cute. i loved how they communicated & when zacai finally opened up to taima it melted my heart. oh & every girl needs a friend like naycia!!
Zacai and Tamia are just what each other needed. I appreciate the brother/sister relationship with Tamia and Trystyn too. Zacai is a gentle giant that does not play about Tamia.
I felt for my man Zacai and what happened to him 🥹 . I could understand why he was the way he was due to his trauma. He also was hilarious as hell and didn’t sugarcoat nothing! My girl Taima was a go getter and I loved that about her! Dom , Ricki , and Sasha dem got everything they deserved for sureeeee!
This was a decent fast paced urban romance but I just wished there was more on the development of their love for each other. I don’t mind when stories are rushed but I just felt like some thing’s were unexpectedly rushed and didn’t have to be.
Tropes ✨ Brothers Best friend ✨ Sworn Off Love ✨ DV Rep
3/5 Felt this was a bit rushed and character development wasn’t dug into more. I loved the storyline, it was addicting af but parts of the book had me like how did we get there (esp, the Epilogue). I wanted to love this so much more, this would have easily been a 4 star had the characters chemistry and plot been a bit longer and dived into.
Will try another one of her books 💕 this was my first.
I liked this story but you know what child Mandee if better? A description of Taima! All I know is that she was chocolate, size 14 with a big butt. How tall was she? What was her hair like? Did she have dimples, high cheekbones? This has become a pet peeve of mine. Zacai was described as light skinned, 6'5", over 350 pounds, muscular, with tattoos covering the burns that he sustained from childhood. What he wore was described, how he smelled was described.
The story was enjoyable. The main characters knew each other from school. Zacai dealt with insecurities due to his burn scars. Taima was dealing with being newly released from prison and dealing with being a felon. They began working together and their love story took off from there. There weren't many hiccups with exes, with minimal drama in this story it was a nice deviation from some of the other themes prevalent in urban fiction.
Zacai is the product of his environment. His father was a cheater, but his mother still loved him. When she gets the strength to leave, the father does something that changes the course of Zacai's life.
He is left with the memories and physical scars of his father's decision. Due to this, he doesn't believe that love can be healthy. His conne tons with women are just on the physical level. That is until he meets Taima again.
Tamara is the little sister of Zacai's best friend. She took the rap for the people she worked for when she got caught with an illegal substance. After serving five years, she is released.
She ends up working as a secretary for Zacai. This now puts them in close proximity for feelings to grow. Of course, her brother wants to protect her from his friend. But, they both are grown and can make their own decisions.
In their journey, Zacai learns what healthy love looks like, and Taima learns about trust.
My goodness this story had me in my feels something serious. Zacai watched his mother go through constant abuse with his father. He even watched his father take everything from him and causing him to be hurt very badly in the process. He’s so afraid to show his whole self to anyone. Until Taima. When she’s released from prison after doing 5 years due to a drug setup, her first day released her brother takes her around where she runs into Zacai. They’ve known each other since childhood, but they are grown now. Both of them have definitely GROWN UP! Now that they are back in each other’s orbit, sparks are flying and they both have to figure out if they are capable of opening themselves up and allowing their wounds to be seen. This was such a beautifully written book.
You know what Kami you did the thang with this book. Omg I love everything about this book. Cai went through so much but he still was willing to love and be everything Tai needed him to be. I’m so glad everybody got their karma when it came to Taima situation cause they were so wrong. Good thing she did get some closure cause she was confused on how and why she got pulled over. Did all that to her to end up in the same position🤦🏾♀️. Tank was getting on my nerves a little bit but I’m glad he was proved wrong and they got their happy ending. I felt like Monica Love All Over Me should play while reading this book.
I absolutely loved this book and the story of Zacai & Taima. Her comeback was so big and the support of the two men in her life was all she needed. He was the prime example of when the right one comes along, you’ll know & you’ll change everything to make sure that person is always good. I loved that when Taima discovered his secret, she didn’t make him feel any less than perfect. I feel like these two were the missing piece to each others puzzles.
Kami never misses for me. She always gives me a top notch male character that I want to add to my wishlist 🤷🏽♀️
This was a great read Zacai and Taima were just made to be to together bringing out the best in each others there was just enough drama but I kinda wanted more especially with Sasha…now I loved Taima relationship with her brother Trystyn the way he loved protected and spoiled her I really understood his feeling on her relationship with Zacai..now everyone needs a Naycia for a friend a tell you like it is ride no or die….I would have loved for the author to have included chapters about the proposal, wedding and how Trystyn came to grips about his sister relationship with Zacai….but this was still a good read book well written
This one was a quick read for me. i did like how Zacai quickly knew that he couldn’t move like he used to after getting involved with Taima. I felt like I needed more from Zacai growing up to being the man he was until Taima got out of jail. I also felt like I needed more from Taima’s backstory. I wanted to really read more about her and Trystyn’s story growing up and experience more with Big Momma. There were a couple of errors in the story and repetitive lines that did bother my reading experience.
I just knew I was going to be in my feelings about this book…I was but because Zacai and Tamia both were dealt tough hands. But Tamia understood that they were brought together to help each other. I loved these two characters together, the sexual chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥. There were a few errors but to me it didn’t take away how great this story was. Everyone needs a bestfriend like Naycia because she was real with Tamia and didn’t let her overthink her way out of a good man.
Second Chances for the both of them both wasn't looking for love But found it with each other...
Karma most certainly got the ones who did her dirty seems like what Stacey thought her brother seems he still got jail time and she dealing with with abuse so yeah and getting high off her own supplies crazy how everything turned out ...
Stacey wanted see her fall only to see her doing well why her life is in shambles haha funny tables turns
I’m always going to fall for a grumpy man who doesn’t believe in love until he’s turned into pure mush by the right woman! That was exactly the story of Zacai and Taima! She’s fresh off a bid & trying to piece her life back together. He’s at the top of his game, succeeding lavishly in life, but what is a perfect life with no one to share it with?! Can Zacai and Taima be the missing pieces to each others puzzles?! Or do both or their pasts hold too much traumatic weight for life to win?!
