Rok niebezpiecznych marzeń

Nazwijmy go rokiem niebezpiecznych marzeń. Pamiętny 2011 zaskoczył świat serią wstrząsających zdarzeń. Podczas gdy protestujący w Nowym Jorku, Kairze, Londynie i Atenach wychodzili na ulice w poszukiwaniu wolności, niejasne destrukcyjne fantazje inspirowały rasistowskich populistów w miejscach tak od siebie odległych jak Węgry czy Arizona, osiągając przerażającą kulminacje w działaniach masowego mordercy Andersa Breivika.

Ukryte niezadowolenie drąży podziemia, zbiera się gniew, aż w końcu wybuchnie nową falą rewolt i niepokoi. Wydarzenia 2011 roku są znakami nadchodzącej politycznej rzeczywistości. Ograniczonymi, zniekształconymi – czasami nawet perwersyjnymi – fragmentami utopijnej przyszłości, uśpionymi w teraźniejszości.

Dziś, gdy w skład rządzącej Norwegią koalicji po raz pierwszy w historii weszła Partia Postępu, do której należał Breivik, książka Žižka staje się tym bardziej aktualna.

About the author

Slavoj Žižek is a Slovene sociologist, philosopher, and cultural critic.

He was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia (then part of SFR Yugoslavia). He received a Doctor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Ljubljana and studied psychoanalysis at the University of Paris VIII with Jacques-Alain Miller and François Regnault. In 1990 he was a candidate with the party Liberal Democracy of Slovenia for Presidency of the Republic of Slovenia (an auxiliary institution, abolished in 1992).

Since 2005, Žižek has been a member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Žižek is well known for his use of the works of 20th century French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan in a new reading of popular culture. He writes on many topics including the Iraq War, fundamentalism, capitalism, tolerance, political correctness, globalization, subjectivity, human rights, Lenin, myth, cyberspace, postmodernism, multiculturalism, post-marxism, David Lynch, and Alfred Hitchcock.

In an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País he jokingly described himself as an "orthodox Lacanian Stalinist". In an interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now! he described himself as a "Marxist" and a "Communist."

The year of dreaming dangerously was 2011, the year of the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street. There was a real sense that things were changing in some way – and yet, our near bottomless cynicism would hardly allow us to imagine that anything would really change at all.

Where this book is at its best is where it points out how profoundly deluded we are today. We talk about free markets and the benefits of competition as if the system we lived under was premised on these. The ideological heroes of capitalism tell us that the strength of the system is due to its unplanned nature, how the blind-hand guides us towards perfect outcomes and the greatest possible prosperity. That entrepreneurs need to be rewarded for the risks they take, as everything invested by them in industries is all that makes our economies strong. The problem is, as Galbraith recognised sixty years ago, that capital has become an increasingly unimportant input to capitalism and as such increasingly, despite all the myths, managers have taken the place of entrepreneurs.

Anyone who has been employed anywhere in the last twenty years – in the public or private sector – who can honestly say organisations are not planned would appear to be suffering from near heroic levels of self-delusion.

Žižek – as he tells us in the other book of his I’ve read recently – is a communist. He sees the problems that are facing us today as problems that can only be solved by us acting in common. As I sit watching the world apparently move closer and closer to irreversibly climate change, as I watch the market’s main response to that climate change being to deny it, it does seem clear that some form of common action is essential. Whether that needs to be referred to as communism, that is, by a word that does much to stop people thinking, is quite another matter.

Žižek also discusses what is happening in Greece and sees this as anything but an exception, but rather a foretaste of what awaits us all. He believes we are witnessing a move away from democracy – at least, if democracy is referred to as government by the people. It should be remembered that this has been a long tradition among the right in our society. Ideologues like Hayek could gleefully support Pinochet while endlessly talking of ‘freedom’. The fact being that unrestrained markets is the only freedom neoliberals really believe in. We are constantly being told that, ‘the only way out of these hard times is for the poor to get poorer and the rich to get richer’. There are some voices raised against such views – there are two Noble Prize winning economists, for example, who are constantly calling for more equity and for us to follow what has been until recently it seems, standard economic theory and thereby to ‘end this depression now!’ But they seem to go virtually go unnoticed.

If you look back at 2011 and see only light – the Arab Spring, Occupy Wall Street and so on – then you need reminded of some of the dark clouds too. One of those was surely Breivik’s killing spree. The world is a large and complex place, and so I do worry that we probably don’t learn about that world as we might imagine from the actions of a single person. Still, the utter confusion of his message says interesting things about the world and who can and cannot be portrayed as enemies.

There is a long chapter in this on some sort of TV program – I guess it must be a US one – called The Wire. This is presented as quite something – but even his gushing approval wasn’t enough to encourage me to track the thing down to watch it. There is also a bizarre quote on page 39 of an anti-Semitic Zionist. You know, Gore Vidal said years ago that Jews should really be careful of these loopy right-wing Christians that seem to be supporting them. They are only supporting Jews going to Israel because they are busting for the end of the world to arrive. And people that want you to go somewhere so the world can end AREN’T YOUR FRIENDS. I’m just saying.

It is in this chapter on racism that he restates what I take to be his most interesting and worthwhile idea from the two books I’ve read of his so far, “The task is to move beyond mere tolerance of others towards a positive emancipatory Leitkultur, which alone can sustain an authentic coexistence and mixing of different cultures, and to engage in the forthcoming battle for Leitkultur. Do not simply respect others, but offer them a common struggle, since our most pressing problems today are problems we have in common. Page 46

The next chapter seems a bit daft to me – essentially arguing that the real pleasure the rich receive is in having the rest of society think they are better off than they really are. Like all ideas, there probably even is some truth to this, but it sounds too much to me like ‘money doesn’t bring happiness’ – which is also more or less true, except that it does bring many more possibilities for happiness that aren’t really available without it.

There is, however, in this chapter an interesting insight into the UK riots. I thought it was particularly interesting when he said, “What function does our celebrated freedom of choice serve when the only choice is effectively between playing by the rules and (self-) destructive violence?” page 54

This idea was continued on with his analysis of the Occupy Wall Street movement. He makes the point that many people (left and right) were frustrated by Occupy Wall Street because when asked, “Yes, but what is it that you want?” there was no real answer forthcoming. But his answer to this was that any answer would have been playing the game by the old rules and rather than that the most revolutionary action is to ignore the old rules. Look, that really is an interesting idea – but I don’t know if it is really clever, or really stupid. I’m not sure we have time for political movements that, well, aren’t moving somewhere. I like the whole Buddhist thing – don’t just do something, sit there – but I’m not sure that is enough. Still, I’m invariably wrong when it comes to politics, so what would I know?

This is an interesting book, remarkably short, but packed full of ideas all the same. There is an article by him today in the Guardian - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfr... What is most interesting about that article is the comments under it. Many of them are accusing him of the exact opposite of what is the clear intent of his article. This comes back to his declaring himself a communist of sorts – do that and you might as well tell large sections of the population to plug their ears with cotton wool.

ژیژک با خوانش تاریخی بهارها و بحران‌های مالی آن سال مخالف است. انقلاب مصر را دزدیده شده توسط ارتش و اخوان می‌داند، و فرصت رهایی‌اش توسط انقلابیونِ اصلی را از دست رفته. جنبش بریتانیا را هم آشوبِ بدون فکر می‌داند و علیه‌ش است. از طرفی وال‌استریت هم نشانه‌ی رنج مردم است و ایرادی در ساختار، ولی خب آخرش به جایی نرسید. ژیژک معتقد است نباید اساسا در قاموس سرمایه‌داریْ به راه‌حل‌ها بیاندیشیم؛ باید درخواست‌هایی را مطرح کنیم که ممکن هستند، اما نه در شرایط فعلی. از طرفی به کمونیسمْ ایجابی و آرمانی (مثل مارکس) نیاندیشیم و به جایش به روی آینده گشوده باشیم، اما نه خیلی گشوده. (چرا اینقدر مبهم؟!) یکی از شگردهای ژیژک استفاده از مشابهت‌هاست و به این طریق از گریختن از استدلال. نثر ژیژک از جایی شروع می‌شود و به خاطر ذهن متصل-کُن‌اش همه‌چیز را به هم ربط می‌دهد و این تحسین‌برانگیز است (که وقایع سیاسی و اجتماعی و فرهنگی و جنسی و غیره را از هم جدا نمی‌کند). ژیژک افعالِ برعکسِ هرچیزی را می‌گوید که همگان (علی‌الخصوص چپ‌ها) می‌گویند، و بعد بخاطر هوش بالایش دلایلی هم ضمیمه‌اش می‌کند؛ همان‌طوری که می‌تواند در گفتگو با یک مدافع سرمایه‌داری مدام بگوید کاملا با شما موافقم و بعد کژ بنگرد و نتیجه‌ی خودش را بگیرد.

It's All About Money

Well, here we have another Zizek book that has so much packed into the 135 pages that it is almost impossible to be able to talk about everything that he says. He seems to have this ability to use English so well that he is able to touch on a huge number of subjects in a really short space – he certainly doesn't waffle, and he uses words really sparingly. The other thing that I love about his books is how he pulls philosophical meaning out of pop-culture, his take of Kung Fu Panda (which I gather is one of his favourite movies – I can just picture him rolling around in laughter while watching the film – I've only seen it once) being his most well known. In this book he spends a lot of time looking at the television series The Wired (which I haven't heard of) and he also talks about 300 and Ralph Finnies Coriolanus.

Anyway, The Year of Dreaming Dangerously can be boiled down to an exposition of the protests in Tahir Square in Egypt, which is more commonly known as The Arab Spring and the Occupy Wall Street movement, both of which appears to have fizzled – with the Arab Spring turning into what appears to be a never-ending civil war in Syria, an Islamist government in Egypt (which has since been overthrown to be replaced with a military dictatorship), and the Occupy Wall Street movement simply morphing into 'business as usual' in the advanced democracies (with the exception of a few Facebook pages and websites).

Mind you, he does point out a few interesting things, particularly the nature of modern democracy. In reality democracy is simply us going to the polling station every few years to vote for either the centre-left party or the centre-right party. Actually, that isn't even the case anymore because it seems to be the centre-right party and the extreme fundamentalist Christian and economic party. Somebody even suggested on my Facebook feed today that the Democrats are now the GOP while the Republicans are basically little more than WTF (though since he is a Christian minister he didn't phrase it in the way that I have).

But it is interesting watching how democracy works, especially these days. For instance Bernie Saunders went from nothing to a nationwide sensation before he lost to Hillary Clinton. However, before he conceded to Hillary he told his supporters that the fight wasn't over and that it was time for them to take action by not only joining the Democrats, but also running for seats in the local, state, and federal congresses, as well as for other electable positions. In fact the left-wing media has indicated that this is what needs to be done – if Saunders had won the nomination, and then the election, then he would have basically come out as, well, Obama. However, I then noticed that now that Saunders is out of the race the support has suddenly flooded over the Jill Stein of the Greens.

That actually tells me a lot about many of his supporters – they don't want change, they want a saviour, however Saunders isn't that saviour. The truth is that change won't come about from the top – it never does – Obama demonstrated that. Not only does he have to deal with Congress, as soon as one steps into the Oval Office there are a lot of pressures coming from a lot of quarters. Don't get me wrong, I think Obama has done a lot, and has made calls, such as normalising relationships with Cuba and Iran, that needed to be done. Sure, many people claim that he is as much of a warmonger as Bush was, and point to his drone campaign as an example (and the fact that he didn't close Guantamo down, as he had promised), however the fact that he made moves to normalise relations with Iran goes to show that he is actually more than just another president, but one who is actively seeking to extend the olive branch where it is possible to do so.

But Saunders is right – real change doesn't come after somebody becomes president, it comes when the president has support in Congress. Notice how the Democrats didn't come out to vote in the mid-terms, which resulted in the Republicans gaining control of both houses of congress. Real change doesn't come about by standing in a park in Wall Street chanting slogans – Egypt proved that: as soon as Mubarak was removed from power the Muslim Brotherhood was elected, and the president started running around claiming that he was Pharaoh. Change doesn't come from the top, but comes from those who are willing to put in the hard work to make that change a reality.

However there is another interesting thing about democracy – it only works when the right result comes from an election. When the European Constitution was voted down, they just went to another vote – okay, they don't like it, so let's do it again. We are seeing the same with Brexit – they weren't supposed to leave, but when they voted to do just that, all of the sudden the referendum was flawed, and they had to go and do it again (though a second Brexit vote is looking incredibly unlikely – and for those who are interested I have written a blog post on it). I remember a similar thing happening in Palestine. After Arafat's death the Palestinians went to an election and voted for Hamas – democracy had failed, the media screamed, because Hamas wasn't supposed to have been elected. But isn't that what democracy is actually all about, or does it only work when the powers that be get the results that they want (we are seeing the same coming from Labor supporters in Australia simply because Labor didn't win the election).

Sure, an extremist group is unlikely to elected, at least at this stage, in our advanced democracies, but that is because things are really not all that bad. Okay, the recent Australian election brought about a bunch of minor parties, but with the exception of Pauline Hanson (which is actually an Australian celebrity because of her extreme anti-immigrant views), all of the minor parties that were elected were basically moderates. However, when things get bad then the extremists suddenly start to gain in popularity. We saw that in Greece when the left wing Syriza party was elected in a landslide - notice how quickly they moved to the centre when they rejected the EU bailout and the country was on the verge of economic collapse – they pretty quickly learned how to play ball, and the people of Greece agreed to follow along behind them.

So, the question boils down to the idea of money – which is what I titled this post as. Sure, you might have issues of culture drifting around the fringes, such as gay marriage, however politics all comes down to one thing – how do we spend the money. A government isn't actually about governing the country – a liberal democracy is, in theory, a country where people are free to do and believe what they like, within reason of course. In the end it comes down to how money is spent, and how it is collected, and the sad thing is that this is all it is, whether you are communist or capitalist. The problem I see is that you need money to have access to the basic essentials of life (and that doesn't mean a two-story house, caviar every night, and three BMWs in the driveway), and if something doesn't generate money then it isn't seen as having any value. In fact everything that we do and produce needs to have some value, either in the short term, or the long term. In fact, the way we are living now the long term is just too far away, and we want everything yesterday. It doesn't matter whether we part with 10 cents, or ten thousand dollars, we all want to be treated the same – we paid you money therefore treat us with respect. For me, I wish we could do away with money and just focus on the arts and culture – our society is becoming ever more empty and meaningless as time moves on that I think it is time that brighten things up without having to resort to watching Kim Kardashian's life.

Oh that 2011 was an eventful year. I can make other glib statements. For instance, that Slavoj Žižek, he's some guy, let me tell you. The Year of Dreaming Dangerously is a wonderful title, giving nods to a largely forgotten novel and film about Aussies in Indonesia. Mr. Z writes about 2011 in a concealed subjunctive, noting with what may be the future result of the worldwide tumult. Will 2011 be considered another 1968 or 1989? Ziziek isn't sure but he pens a number of essays which cite Lacan and Marx and through which Zizek brings attention to often ignored arguments about the world we inhabit.

Each essay is distinct and anyone expecting a narrative view of Egypt, Greece or Occupy Wall Street should probably look elsewhere. Anyone in the mood for incandescent thought on the state of the world should investigate.

- أولى قراءاتي لجيجيك بعد مشاهداتي الكثيرة لفيديوهاته ومداخلاته.أجد أن فهمه عن طريق القراءة أصعب من استيعاب أفكاره عن طريق المشاهدة .
- يعرض جيجيك في هذا الكتاب سنة 2011 وما يميزها من أحداث مهمة محاولا تقديم فهم وتفسير لهذه الأحداث وخلفياتها : التاريخية، الفلسفية، الدينية، الإقتصادية والايديولوجية ... تفسيرات جيجيك لهذه الأحداث كانت من خلال خلفيته الماركسية وتحليلاته النفسية التي يميل في الكثير منها بالإستعانة والإقتباس من أستاذه لاكان ( أجزاء الكتاب المرتبطة بلاكان كانت صعبة ) بالإضافة إلى ماركس، هيجل وفريديريك جيمسون؛ وغيرهم بدرجة أقل .
- تحار من كم الموضوعات والنقاط التي ناقشها وعرضها جيجيك في كتابه حتى إن بعضها في بضع أسطر فقط، هذا ما يجعل من الصعوبة التطرق لكل أفكار الكتاب في مراجعة بسيطة كهذه. ما سأحاوله هو عرض كل فصل وأفكاره الأساسية التي رسخت :
1 - يبدأ الكتاب بتعبير فارسي جميل المعنى رغم قساوته : " ور نام نهادن " في معناه " أن تقتل شخصا وتدفن جثته، ثم تنمي زهورا حول جثته لتخفيها ".هكذا يكون مدخله لنقد الأيديولوجيا السائدة في التعتيم على تغطية الأحداث المهمة والمفصلية في سنة 2011 تلك الأحداث التي سلكت إتجاهين متعارضين : تحررية وهدامة محاولا قراءة تلك الأحداث وفق نسق " عام " عالمي" لا خاص " محلي" منفصل كل عن بعضه وهذا بمحددات موضوعية وفكرية ماركسية وتحليلية نفسية في الغالب.
2 - منطلقا من فرضية ماركس في أن نقد الإقتصاد السياسي تعتبر نقطة الإنطلاق في فهم الأوضاع الإقتصادية والإجتماعية السائدة في العالم، هذا العالم الذي بات تحت رحمة رأسمالية حديثة تمكنت من تطوير نفسها في شكل جديد أو أنها قامت بعمل إصلاح ذاتي لنفسها؟ تحت شعارات أنسنة الرأسمالية والرأسمالية الإجتماعية . خاصة مع التطور التكنولوجي المعاصر وتحول أو تطور الإقتصاد والعمل من العمل المادي إلى الأعمال العقلية والإنفعالية وتحول الرأسمالية ذاتها إلى خصائص بنيوية جديدة
أ – الإنتقال من الربح إلى الأجر ( من فائض رأس المال إلى فائض الأجر ).
ب – الدور البنيوي للبطالة الذي إستغلته الرأسمالية جيدا .
ج – صعود طبقة جديدة : البرجوازية المستأجرة .
- خاتما هذا الفصل بملاحظة عن التغير الطارئ في حالة الإقتصاد العالمي من 1945 إلى الحاضر الذي لم تعد فيه الو.م.الأمريكية اللاعب الأساسي بل هي اللاعب المحتاج لأموال الغير الفائضة عنها من أجل إستثمارها.
3- يقدم تفسيرات للصراع الطبقي والتمثيلات السياسية وعلاقتها الإقتصادية. من مبدأ أن التمثيلات السياسية لا تعكس البنية الإجتماعية الممثلة وكمثال على ذلك يقدم ما قام به بونابرت الذي استغل فائض كل الطبقات ( الأفراد الذين رفضتهم طبقتهم الأصلية " القمامة أو المتبقى من كل الطبقات " ) وجعلها تحت التمثيل البونابارتي الشعبوي .هذه الشعبوية التي ستلحق أو تصعد من جديد وتتكرر في مراحل تاريخية وفي الحاضر منها الآن في أوروبا خاصة ( العنصرية والقوميون والنازيون الجدد ...).
- الصراع الطبقي الذي يتحول إلى سياسي بالدرجة الأولى ما يؤدي إلى صراع ثقافي هذا الصراع يعكسه تمثيل سياسي وإقتصادي .
4- كتتمة للفصل السابق يتكلم جيجيك عن الصراع الثقافي / العرقي ومسألة كره الأجانب، معاداة السامية، معاداة الإسلام في الغرب، كل هذا يتلخص في صعود اليمين الراديكالي وإنتشار أيديولوجيته .
- المثال الأفضل على ذلك هو سفاح النرويج برايفيك الذي يمثل نموذجا لتعقيدات الشعبويين الجدد العنصريين يبرز ذلك في عملين مهمين قام بهما الأول فكري وهو المنفيستو الخاص به والثاني عملي وهو مجزرة النرويج .
- العلمانية الأوروبية وتناقضاتها في خاصة في مسألة الإسلام والحرية ومع قضية تحرر بعض الأراضي الفلسطينية لا عملية السلام ذاتها .
5 – بداية الفصل تقريبا من لاكان عن اللذة والمتعة وإسقاطاتها على الإستهلاك اليوم وتوجهات الإقتصاد الليبيدي كما سماه العامل على إشباع رغبات تعاود إنتاج النقص من جديد (كالعملية الجنسية ).
- الملاحظة بأن الرأسمالية بالرغم من عالميتها إلا أنه لا توجد وجهة رأسمالية عالمية مشتركة أو حضارة رأسمالية. فهي متوافقة مع كل الحضارات المسيحية، البوذية، الهندوسية ....
- محاولة تشريح أوفهم وإعطاء تفسير لما أدى إلى مظاهرات لندن سنة 2011 المترافقة مع أعمال الشغب (ليس صراع بين جزئين مختلفين من المجتمع؛ هو في ذروته الراديكالية صراع بين اللا-مجتمع و المجتمع، بين هؤلاء الذين ليس لهم ما يخسروه وهؤلاء الذين لديهم كل شيء ليخسروه...) نفس الطبقة بمكاسب مختلفة .
6 – ببيت شعري مخطوط على تحفة فنية فخارية : " وعاجز الرأي مضياع لفرصته / حتى إذا فات أمر عاتب القدرا " يبدأ إفتتاحه لهذا الفصل، بين الفن واللغة والدين؛ المهم لنا لإنتمائنا للمنطقة العربية الإسلامية
بين الربيع العربي والثورة الخضراء في إيران كان هذا الفصل من الكتاب.
- بالرجوع للتاريخ الإسلامي وظهور حركات راديكالية ثورية مبكرة مناهضة للظلم تجلت في مثالين ثورة الزنج ودولة القرامطة في البحرين، هذا المفهوم التحرري الراديكالي الغير معبر عنه من قبل المؤرخين الرسمين الموالين للسلطة القامعة لأي حراك تحرريي.
- إيران سنة 2009 وقيام مظاهرات إحتجاجية سرعان ما تلقفها الغرب على أنها إمتداد لثورات أوروبا الشرقية الملونة؛ هذا الحراك الذي لا يراه جيجيك سوى : " عودة للمكبوت " لثورة الخميني الأولى ضد الشاه. تلك الثورة التي مهدت في بدايتها لحرية وحراك ثقافي ونقاشات سياسية، طلابية ...لم تطل لتخنقها أ تكبتها في مهدها هي ذاتها (الثورة) لدرجة القمع. الغريب في هذا الفصل موقفه من أحمدي نجاد موقف متعارض في الأول يلوم الغرب على نظرته السطحية له ومن تم يراه كبرلسكوني إيراني !!!
- الربيع العربي الذي زحف على أنظمة بعيدة عن الديموقراطية والقيم القانونية في بلادها : تونس، مصر، ليبيا، البحرين، سوريا وموقف الغرب المتناقض من كل ثورة على حدة حيث أيد المعارضة الليبية رغم ضبابية مشروعها أو غيابه تماما وتجييش منظمات حقوق الإنسان ضد القذافي ولزومها الصمت من قمع السعودية لإنتفاضة البحرينيين، والإختطاف الممنهج للإسلاميين والعسكر لثورتي تونس ومصر اللتان وقفتا ضد الظلم بالرغم المشاركة الباهتة أو التأييد المتأخر للحراك الشعبي المطالب بالحرية والعدالة الإجتماعية؛ هذا الإختطاف الذي يعتبره جيجيك دقا للمسمار الأخير في نعش الثورتين من قبلهما (العسكر والإسلاميين هذا الكلام كان سنة 2011) ووقوف جماعات حقوق الإنسان والغرب متفرجين أمام هذا الإختطاف لثورة شعب ؛ والرجوع لموقف الغرب الساكت من نظام الأسد القمعي الباعث على إستقرار الأوضاع مع إسرائيل فلا إعتبار لرأي شعبه به طالما لا يشكل تهديدا للموقف الدولي في المنطقة خاصة مع غياب رؤية أو مشروع واضح من معارضيه .
- الثورات العربية قامت سنة 2011 والمهم ليس قيامها ذاتها وإنما ما بعدها ما المشروع الذي تتبناه أو ستفعله من أجل الوصول لأهدافها على الأقل العدالة. هذه الإستمرارية التي يراها جيجيك مستحيلة إذا ما غاب عن الساحة السياسية الإحتماعية إتجاه يساري راديكالي داعم للإتجاه الليبيرالي المعتدل لان عدم تحالفهما ينبئ بصعود للاصولية الغسلامية وبالتالي فشل الثورات " كل صعود للفاشية يشهد على ثورة فاشلة؟ ".
- الرؤية الغربية الرسمية التي تخبر الغربيين أن نهاية هذه الثورات عبارة عن حركات إسلامية أصولية كتوصيف سابق من أن الإسلام عبارة عن : " شيوعية القرن ال21 " الذي يحارب القيم الحرة الغربية وبالتالي عودة طاغية أو مبارك آخر للسلطة في تلك الدول من مصلحة الغرب .
7- حركة احتلوا وول ستريت : تلك الحركة التي ترى أن الرأسمالية هي المشكلة لا في الفرد( هي تشجعه على الشع لا هو بالشجع)، المتظاهرون لفتوا النظر إلى مشكلتين رئيسيتين في الرأسمالية المعاصرة :
أولا : النتائج الهدامة إجتماعيا للنظام العالمي الرأسمالي وما أزمة 2008 ببعيد حيث فقدت المليارات من الدولارات بسبب المضاربة غير المسيطر عليها.
ثانيا : العولمة الإقتصادية التي تخلخل تدريجيا شرعية الديموقراطيات الغربية التي لا يمكنها أن تسيطر على العمليات الإقتصادية الدولية باعتبار ميكانيزماتها الديموقراطية وطنية .وبالتالي : الديموقراشية في الشكل المعاصر غير قادرة على التعامل مع الإفراطات الرأسميالة .
8- يقدم نقدا لمسلسل تلفيزيوني The wire تحت ترجمة عربية الشبكة هذا النقض والتحليل مع إسقاطات على الجوانب الإجتماعية، الإقتصادية، السياسية لا يمكنني الكلام بما اني لم أشاهد السلسلة لكن يمكن القول أنه جعلها تستحق المشاهدة .
9- سلوك غريب أو سلوك شيوعي هو ما تكشف عنه دراسة معهد ماساشوستش للتكنولوجيا تلك الدراسة التي تستحق القراءة والتفكير فيها.
- Apple الأمريكية و Foxconn التايوانية نموذجان للتعاون في الإستغلال الوحشي للإنسان في رأسمالية لا إنسانية وإن كانت فوكسكون المثال عن الرؤية اللاآدمية للعمال ( رؤية رئيسها على الأقل ) مع الصمت العام والرضى لما تحققه آبل للعالم من رفاهية ومن نموذج للنجاح الرأسمالي والتكنولوجيا الخلاق.
- هناك رؤية متناقضة في المجتمع أو منافقة عن الأبطال الذين نحبهم " المرضى الإجتماعيين " وعن الرؤية التي تقول بحاجة المجتمع لهم من أجل إستمراره : لا بأس أن يقتل من أجل رفاه المجتمع ما دمنا لا نقتل نحن .... وتعظيم هذه الأمثلة في السينما والفن بالعموم .
10 – بالفعل كانت سنة الأحلام الخطيرة وانتهت لكن : " ماذا نفعل في مثل هذه الأوقات الكئيبة حين تبدو الأحلام وهي تتلاشى ؟ ".
يمكن الختام بما ختم به جيجيك كتابه : " كلّ ما يمكننا أن نكون واثقين منه هو أنّ النظام القائم لا يمكن أن يعيد إنتاج نفسه بشكل مُحدّد بغض النظر عمَّا سيأتي فلن يكون .« مستقبلنا » .حرب جديدة في الشرق الأوسط أو فوضى إقتصادية، أو كارثة بيئية غير عادية يمكنها أن تغيّر سريعًا الإحداثيات الأساسية لمأزقنا. علينا أن نقبل تمامًا هذا الإنفتاح ولا نقود أنفسنا إلى شيء أكثر من الإشارات الغامضة القادمة من المستقبل.

To begin with, this is the first Slavoj Žižek book that I've read - my (awesome) wife was nice enough to buy me a few of his works for Christmas, and I was sufficiently sucked in by the opening line:

There is a wonderful expression in Persian, war nam nihadan, which means "to murder somebody, bury his body, then grow flowers over the body to conceal it".

so that this got bumped up in the rotation. I enjoyed it a great deal, and am looking forward to the other two she bought me, and will certainly be picking up more of his stuff in the future.

First, I was struck pretty quickly - within the first few chapters - just how Brechtian his philosophy is: the focus on the Hegelian dialectic, the obvious Marxist philosophy with a stressed focused on economic disparity and social philosophy, and the intersection of philosophy and politics and popular culture (Brecht of course was a creator of (deeply) philosophical and political pop culture, while Žižek is a creator of (deeply) political popular-culture-influenced philosophy). So it was nice to see Brecht discussed in the chapter about The Wire, and I felt that there is a real sense of veneration displayed by Žižek when referencing Brecht. Seeing as my wife and I met in a Brecht course in college, it feels only right that she would be the one to give me my first Žižek books.

From this (very short) book it definitely seems like Žižek has a real knack for writing intelligent, well-constructed political philosophy that manages to be greatly entertaining, enjoyable to read, and fairly accessible to those readers who might not have the strongest philosophical background (um, me). Not only that, but he manages to write about societal injustice and the potential for societal change and upheaval with a passion and intensity that is electrifying, and motivates a true desire to go about actually affecting that change. Which is likely where the whole “the most dangerous philosopher in the West” tag comes from.

That said, this is a short book that attempts to cover a lot of ground – the Anders Breivik mass-murders, the Arab Spring uprising, Occupy Wall Street movement, the TV show The Wire, and more – and as such a lot of it ends up feeling like it barely scratches the surfaces. He does manage to glean some level of insight from each of these events, but it would have been nice to see them dealt with at a deeper level. That said, this being published in 2012 allowed it be immediately relevant, and to discuss issues – and their resulting political impacts – in a way that would still be relevant, so I do understand the time constraint that led to the brevity.

A solid, inspiring, work of political philosophy.

قراءة علاء با مطرف, مراجعة مي عبد الوهاب

كتب جيجك في محاولة لفهم عام 2011 كسنة للأحلام لكنها الأحلام الخطيرة بحسب وصفه وبحسب ما سيبين , من المعلوم أن الأحداث كانت سريعة ومجنونة سبقت الجميع إلى نموذج غير متوقع وغير مفهوم لحظتها, وهذه إحدى المحاولات للقراءة والتحليل, كان انتقاد العديد من القراء لجيجيك أنه لم يقدم وصفة علاج جاهزة, لكن المفارقة أن ملايين المتظاهرين لم يملكوا أصلاً مطالب واضحة ولم يقدموا وصفة علاج, ربما مازال الوقت مبكراً للخروج من الأحداث التي اجتاحت العالم في وقت واحد وبدت على البعض مثل الجنة المنتظرة وشاهدها آخرون كأنها يوم القيامة, إن جيجيك هنا يحاول أن يقدم محاولة لفهم اللحظة التي غرقنا فيها جميعاً .
يبدأ من محاولة فهم الرأسمالية الحديثة وتشكلاتها , إلى قراءة الأحداث العالمية من اليونان إلى المجر إلى حركة احتلوا وول ستريت إلى الربيع العربي , ويحلل مسلسل the wire باعتبار موضوعه عن النضال الطبقي, و يدافع عن فلم 300 حيث هوجم الفلم باعتباره مثال على العسكرة الوطنية السيئة وإحالات واضحة للنزاعات الحديثة مع إيران والعراق , (( يمكن أن يدافع عن الفيلم بقوة في مواجهة هذه الاتهامات, إنها قصة دولة صغيرة اليونان تم غزوها من قبل جيش دولة أكبر منها فارس وفي هذا الوقت كانت أكثر تطوراً وبتكنولوجيا عسكرية أكثر تقدماً, أليست أفيال الفرس وعمالقتها وسهامها الكبيرة المحرقة هي النسخة القديمة من التسليح عالي التقنية ؟ ))
يقدم جيجيك تحليله الماركسي للأحداث لكنه لا يقع في الجبرية التي وصف بها ماركس تطور الرأسمالية وربط علاقات الناس بها, يرى جيجيك أننا وصلنا إلى مرحلة صرنا نواجه فيها مشاكل ليس لها حلول لكنه يتخذ خطوة يرى أنها الأولى والمتاحة وهي التركيز على اللحظات المنفردة التي هي أعراض للأزمة الإقتصادية كمحاولة لفهم الطبيعة الكلية للمشكلة, وهوهنا يقدم قراءة تحاول أن تخرج من الإطار العام الذي حاول تحييد الأحداث للخطاب الرأسمالي المهيمن تحت شعار الحريات والديمقراطية, يعيد القراءة من خلال النظرة العامة للأحداث متجاوزاً هويتها الوطنية الضيقة .

الإنفجار المعلوماتي .. عودة للشيوعية أم تطور للرأسمالية ؟

الإنفجار المعلوماتي هو أحد أهم التحولات في العصر الحديث, اتسعت فيه المساحة المتشاركة, المعرفة المتبادلة, الإتصال, لم يعد العمل مجرد عمل مادي .
يقرأ جيجيك هذا الإنفجار من خلال رؤيتين متضادتين: الرؤية الرأسمالية الأيديلولجية التي تعتبر هذا التحول كشكل لتطورالرأسمالية من التراتبية الهرمية إلى التنظيم الذاتي, والرؤية الماركسية الأخرى والتي قرأها من خلال أطروحة هارد ونيجري حول إمكانية إستخدام هذا الشكل المتطور لرأسمالية الشركات ليكون إشتراكية داخل الرأسمالية .
يعترف جيجيك أن الرأسمالية نجحت في خصخصة المعرفة العامة على المستوى القريب وأن الإنفجار المعلوماتي كان من أسباب سقوط الإتحاد السوفييتي نموذج الشيوعية التقليدية , لكنه لا يرى أيضاً أن هذا التطور هو شكل من أشكال تطور الرأسمالية بل هو مجرد تغيير في الأسماء , صحيح أن البرجوازية القديمة لم تعد مؤثرة أو فاعلة في النظام الرأسمالي الحديث, لكن هذه الطبقة تم إستبدالها بطبقة من المدراء المستأجرين, هذه الطبقة الجديدة ملائمة لفائض القيمة الذي يعتبر مرتكز البرجوازية التقليدية و الذي يصبح فائض الأجر, حيث يبرر كما يقول بـ : ((لذلك يكون التقييم العلمي الزائف هو الذي يبرر مكاسبهم العالية )) .
ثم يطرح خطاب أنسنة الرأسماليةعلى أنه اعتراف بأنها وحش يتسبب في مشاكل الحروب وتدمير الطبيعة لكن السوق يحتاجه لتوليد الأرباح والثراء فلهذا تنشأ محاولة الأنسنة حيث علينا أن نحافظ على الوحش مع محاولة ترويضه ثم يطرح السؤال:((هل اللعب مع الوحش الرأسمالي هو حقاً اللعبة الوحيدة المتخيلة في النطاق ؟)) مؤكداً على أن محاولات أنسنة الرأسمالية هي مجرد إسهام في العملية المطلوب قلبها. وهنا يناقش الخطاب الذي تروج له الرأسمالية الحديثة كشعار لها, ألا وهو خطاب الحريات , ويعيد قرأته كتهرب من تصريحهم بدعم الفقراء, حيث يصبح الصراع من أجل حقوق المرأة والجنسانية وتعدد الثقافات معتبراً أن الحرب الثقافية هي حرب طبقية في حالة إزاحة (( الطبقة الحاكمة ترفض الأجندة الأخلاقية للشعبويين فهي تتسامح مع الحرب الأخلاقية لأنها تعني الحفاظ على الطبقات الدنيا تحت السيطرة )) نافياً أن تكون هناك فائدة من الإختلاف الثقافي على العمليات الإجتماعية المعاصرة, إذ تبدو أنها مجردة في سياق منفصل وهذا ما لايمكن, جالباً الرهان الماركسي على وجود نضال طبقي يتمركز ككلية ثابتة, لا ينفي جيجيك هنا الصراعات الأخرى لكنه يردها لقراءة بنيوية :(( إنه لا يعني أن النضال الطبقي هو المرجع المطلق وأفق المعاني لكل النضالات الأخرى, إنه يعني أن الصراع الطبقي هو المبدأ البنيوي الذي يسمح لنا بأن نعتمد على الشمول المتناقض )) مؤكداً على الفرق بين النضالات المختلفة تحت الليبرالية حيث الهدف هو تحويل التناحر إلى اختلاف ومشاركة سلمية للأجناس والديانات والمجموعات العرقية, بينما النضال الطبقي يريد تحويل الاختلافات الطبقية إلى تناحرات, في الليبرالية النضالات المعادية للعنصرية والجنسانية مقادة بالكفاح من أجل الإدراك الكامل للآخر أما النضال الطبقي فيستهدف إبادة الآخر أي التخلص من وظيفة البرجوازية الإجتماعية والسياسية.
يقرأ الحركات الشعبوية الجديدة في إطار معاداة الرأسمالية فالخيار أمام اليونانين مثلاً صار عليك أن تأخذ الأخلاق الليبرالية الجديدة التي تكفل الحقوق والحريات مع حزمة لا تنتهي من القروض لن تفعل إلا إنهاك اليونان, فصار الطرف الآخر يرفض القروض بنزعة قومية ضيقة تنسف منظومة الحقوق والحريات, (( قهوة الإحياء الديمقراطي, يمكن فقط أن تقدم بدون كريمة اقتصاد الليبرالية الجديدة )) وفي موضع آخر يتسائل : (( ولكن ماذا لو حصلنا على الديمقراطية وبقي الفقر, ماذا بعد ؟)) .
يرى جيجيك أن الطريقة الوحيدة للخروج من لعبة الأخلاق الليبرالية كما يسميها حيث نحاصر بسؤال التسامح, إلى أي حد يمكننا أن نضل متسامحين؟!, لن يكون إلا بالصراع من أجل مشروع عالمي مشترك للجميع ممثلاً بواقعة حدثت حيث انضمت مجموعة من اليهوديات المثليات للنساء الفلسطينيات المتظاهرات ضد الجدار, عدم الثقة الأولي المشترك ذهب مع أول مواجهة أمام الجنود الإسرائيلين (( لا تحترم الآخرين ولكن قدم لهم نضالاً عاماً , طالما أن أكثر المشاكل ضغطاً اليوم هي مشاكل نتشارك فيها )) .
تحت فصل بعنوان (( مرحبا في صحراء مابعد الأيديولوجيا )) يستمر في نقد الشعارات الرأسمالية, ناقداً أخلاقيات المتعة الجديدة, ينطلق من تمييز لاكان بين المتعة واللذة فالمتعة هي فائض مميت أكثر منه لذة, حيث اللذة معتدلة ومضبوطة, تسوق الأخلاق الليبرالية لنفسها كأخلاق فتحت مجالات المتعة وتجاوزت الأخلاق التقليدية, لكن جيجيك يرى أن الرأسمالية استبدلت المحظورات القديمة بأخلاق الصحة الجديدة حيث كل شئ مباح طالما أنه يمارس بشكل صحي الكولا بدون كافيين, الجنس لكن بضوابطه الصحية, وهذا يجرد مبدأ المتعة من حقيقته (( المتعة منزوعة الكافيين التي نحصل عليها بالتالي هي شيء مشابه للمتعة )) يمثل بالتدخين الذي كان متاحاً ومشجعاً عليه بالإغراء أصبح محارباً نظراً لأنه يحارب الصحة .
ينتقل لقراءة مظاهرات لندن التي انفجرت بالعنف بدون أي مطالب مقدمة ولم يستطع أحد تفسيرها حيث النتيجة صفر لمحاولة الفهم (( الحقيقة الحزينة التي تقول إن معارضة النظام لا تستطيع أن تفصح عن نفسها في صورة بديل واقعي أو مشروع يوتيوبي متماسك على الأقل ولكنها فقط تأخذ شكل الاضطراب الخالي من المعنى, هي مؤشر خطير لعصرنا )) يقرأ جيجيك الأحداث على أنها صراع بين المتظاهرين الذين لا يملكون شيئاً ليخسروه وبين أصحاب المحلات الذين لديهم كل شيء ليخسروه, معتبراً الاضطرابات كرنفالا إستهلاكياً للهدم, (( أنتم تدعوننا إلى الاستهلاك بينما تجردوننا على الفور من إمكانية فعل ذلك بشكل منضبط لذلك نفعل ذلك هنا بالطريقة الوحيدة المتاحة لنا )) .
القراءة العامة لمظاهرات اليوم :

يرى بأنها شكل من أشكال الصراع داخل البرجوازية المستأجرة, حيث أصبح هناك تفاوت داخل هذه الطبقة في الأجر بين مجموعة ستنحدر إلى طبقة العمال ومجموعة أخرى تزداد مرتباتها وفوائدها, هذه الطبقة التي تتنوع بين مدراء الشركات والشرطة والمدرسين وغيرهم من أصحاب الوظائف المضمونة و ذات الإمتياز, التظاهرات في الحقيقة لا تعكس الطبقة العاملة التي لم تعد قادرة على الإضراب اليوم حيث تحول أمان الوظيفة إلى امتياز, صحيح أن المظاهرات تقاد في الظاهر ضد المنطق الوحشي للسوق لكنها في داخلها تخفي قلقاً لطبقة البرجوازية المستأجرة من تأثير السوق على أجرها وأن تعود إلى الحد الأدنى من الأجر .
يشير إلى إمكانية راديكالية أكبر يمكن قراءتها وتوجيهها ويعطي وصفاً عاماً للحالة المشتركة التي طبعت التظاهرات, حيث يصفها بأنها غضب أصيل لم يستطع تحويل نفسه إلى برنامج إيجابي (( روح ثورية بدون ثورة )), وأن النغمة السياسية الواضحة هي اللاسياسية, محذراً من الإعجاب باللحظات السامية للوحدة الوطنية حيث السؤال الأهم ماذا سيحدث بعد ذلك ؟ على التظاهرات أن تكون البداية وليست النهاية (( هذا ليس كافياً إذن .. على المرء أيضاً أن يبدأ في التفكير بجدية عما يريده من وضع التنظيم الاقتصادي المهيمن, أن يتخيل ويجرب أشكالاً بديلة من التنظيم ))
فعن تظاهرات إيران 2009 حيث يرى أن آية الله الخميني فقد وضعه كزعيم روحي وظهر كسياسي انتهازي وأن القوى التي خبت بعد ثورة 1979أي عودة المكبوت من ثورة الخميني كما يقول والتي تجابه السلطة المتهورة التي تقلق الملالي تقف خلفه طبقة جديدة من محدثي الثراء ممثلة بالحرس الثوري (( فمن المهم جداً أن نضع في ذهننا أننا شهدنا حدثاً تحررياً عظيماً . حدث لم يخضع لإطار النضال بين الليبرالين المؤيدين للغرب والأصوليين المعادين للغرب )) .
وقدم تحليله لردة فعل الغرب تجاه الربيع العربي حيث قدم الغرب مشروعاً واضحاً في تونس ومصر لكنه تجاهل سوريا وليبيا ثم تدخل عسكرياً في ليبيا وتردد في سوريا, ويصف ردة الفعل الغربية بالإنتهازية والعار ناقلاً قول توني بلير عن مصر أن التغيير ضروري ولكن يجب أن يبقى مستقراً (( سيتم إخبارنا مراراً وتكراراً أن الانتفاضات الشعبية في الدول العربية وكما هو واضح في إيران تنتهي دائماً بانتصار الاسلام المسلح, بالتالي سيظهر مبارك بأثر رجعي على أنه الأقل شراً والرسالة المتبقية الواضحة من الأفضل الإبقاء على الشيطان الذي تعرفه أكثر من أن تلعب مع التحررية )) مع العلم أن تنبأه سبق سير الأحداث حيث صدر الكتاب عام 2012 .
في محاولته لإيجاد المخرج يرى أن على القوى الليبرالية أن تتحالف مع اليسار الراديكالي لأن إخماد شعارات العدالة الإجتماعية وحصرها في الحريات السياسية سيفتح ثغرة للقوى الدينية حيث ستكون هي البعد الإجتماعي الوحيد للتحرر من سيطرة الرأسمالية, و سيدفع الوضع الاقتصادي الملايين من الجائعين إلى الشارع عاجلاً أو آجلاً ..




الاسلام كماركسية للقرن الواحد والعشرين ..

ينطلق من قلب الشعار الذي وصفت به الماركسية على أنها إسلام القرن العشرين مستعيراً مقولة آندري تاجويف أن الإسلام باعتبارعنفه المضاد للرأسمالية يتحول إلى شيوعية القرن الواحد والعشرين, وفي تعليله لصعود الفاشية الاسلامية والحركات الأصولية يردها لفشل اليسار (( ولكنه دليل فوري على أن هناك ثورية كامنة, عدم رضا لم يكن اليسار قادراً على تحريكه )), يؤكد جيجيك أكثر من مرة على أن المضمون الراديكالي في الاسلام ليس متوهماً وأن الخطاب الغربي الذي يركز على معاملة المرأة في الإسلام يمكنه أن يجد شيئاً مختلفاً تحت السطح البطرياركي, حيث الفن والفلسفة كانت جزءاً من الحياة الطبيعية للناس في الاسلام بعكس الغرب الذي كان الفن فيه محصوراً للطبقة المترفة, يمثل بقائد ثورة هاييتي[1] التحررية جون بوكمان أي رجل الكتاب حيث لفظ الكتاب يشير للقرآن ومستشهداً بثورة الزنج ودولة القرامطة, مطلقاً عليها الثورات الشيوعية في الاسلام, (( لنجد الاسلام الجيد فنحن لسنا بحاجة لنعود إلى القرن العاشر نحن نجده هنا متكشفاً أمام أعيننا ))

لعبة الدولة والطبقة:

ينطلق من قراءة ثورة 1848 حيث استنتج ماركس أن التمثيل السياسي لا يعكس البنية الإجتماعية بشكل مباشر, ويمكن تلخيص النقاط التي حللها جيجيك لعودة حزب النظام بقيادة بونابرت حين انطفأت جذوة الثورة :
1- الإعتماد على الفائض المهمل, القمامة المتبقية من كل طبقة, الدعم للبائس اجتماعياً : عائلات البرجوازية المحطمة, النصابون, الدجالون, المقامرون, القوادون, بائعو الملابس المستعملة, السمكرية, المسجونون المنتهية عقوبتهم , (( مبادرة للعمل العام ولكن العمل العام يزيد الالتزامات الضريبية على الناس: وبالتالي الانتقاص من الضرائب عن طريق الهجوم على أصحاب الدخول .. مضاعفة ضريبة الخمور للذين يشترون الخمور بالجملة, ويخفض إلى النصف ضريبة الخمر للطبقة المتوسطة التي تشرب كل المبيعات, حل جمعيات العمال الحقيقية, ولكن مع وعود بجمعيات مستقبلية إعجازية )) .
2- الدور الخاص لليهود كدخيل أجنبي يفرض التهديد على هيكل المجتمع (( الطريقة التقليدية للتنصل من التناحر وتقديم موقف المرء كتمثيل للكل هو إلقاء سبب التضاد على متطفل أجنبي يمثل تهديداً للمجتمع ذاته كعنصر فائض على المجتمع )) .
3- التصرف كممثل للطبقة غير الممثلة, التي لاتسطيع تمثيل نفسها, الفلاحون الصغار هي الطبقة المتوسطة سيئة السمعة كما يصفها جيجيك, حيث تريد أن تحافظ على طريقتها في العيش ولهذا تميل لمساندة الانقلابات الشمولية التي تميل لوضع حد للحراك السياسي المجنون (( من جهة أخرى فأعضاء الطبقة المتوسطة المتنكرين الآن في الغالبية الأخلاقية الوطنية كثيرة العمل المهددة هم المحرضون الرئيسيون على الحركات الشعبوية المتجذرة )) .
يعيد تعريف السياسة على أنها المسافة بين الاقتصاد وبين نفسه, الاقتصاد كما هو في نسقه المثالي والاقتصاد كما هو في نسقه الواقعي, منتقداً التأويل الماركسي الاجتماعي للنضال الطبقي, حيث يعتمد التأويل على منطقين يرى أنهما لايتبعان المنطق نفسه: الإقتصاد يحدد كل شيء في المرحلة الأخيرة, وكل شيء سياسي . بالنسبة لجيجيك فالنضال الطبقي مصطلح فريد يساند على الفور اللحظة السياسية غير ممكنة الإختصار في قلب الاقتصاد .
وداخل تحليله لنسق الدولة يبني انتقاده لماركس ولينين حيث تجاهل ماركس الأثر المترتب على صناعة الدولة ومدى تأثيره, اختصر ماركس الدولة إلى ظاهرة ثانوية للقاعدة الاقتصادية, (( بعيداً عن منع تنامي الدول الطاغية المتحررة من أي آلية للتحكم الاجتماعي , فهذا التجاهل فتح فضاء قوة غير مقيدة للدولة )) .
النموذج الرأسمالي للدولة يقرأه اليوم من خلال أمريكا التي تظهر نفسها كقوة عسكرية وأيديولوجية, حيث أصبح العالم مقسماً إلى أوروبا وأجزاء من أمريكا اللاتينية وأجزاء من آسيا كقوة صناعية, وبقية العالم الثالث كمجموعة من العبيد, (( الرأسمالية العالمية جلبت نزوعاً عاماً جديداً تجاه الأوليجارشية – حكم الأقلية – مقنعة كاحتفاء بالتنوع الثقافي )) متنبئاً أن هذا العالم الجديد سينهار حيث أمريكا هي التي تحتاج العالم وليس العالم هو من يحتاجها .

في الفصل الأخير يقدم جيجيك نظرة ختامية حيث لايريد أن تقرأ هذه الأحداث كجزء من الماضي أو الحاضر بل كجزء من المستقبل حيث لاتوجد الآن حلول للخروج والنخب تفقد القدرة على الحكم والأكثر إزعاجاً كما يعبر أن الديمقراطية لم تعد نافعة, لكنه لا يبني تصوراً مثالياً عن المجتمع الشيوعي في المستقبل إنه يعود ليمارس شيوعية متحجبة كما يطلق عليها تقرأ الاشارات التي تأتي من ميدان التحرير مثلاً معللاً أن المستقبل ليس موضوعياً ولن يتحقق إلا من خلال انغماس ذاتي يدعمه, منتقداً اليسار الذي لا زال غارقاً في إخفاقات القرن الماضي, غير قادرعلى الرد في ظل حصول ماكان يتنبأ به من ركود اقتصادي وتفسخ اجتماعي, ويختم (( علينا أن نقبل تماماً هذا الانفتاح ولا نقود أنفسنا إلى شيء أكثر من الإشارات الغامضة من المستقبل ))

Žižek writes along a continuum between ‘high end’ philosophy (such as his recent book on Hegel) and more activist oriented quasi-journalistic interventions into contemporary debates of the kind that populate his Comment is Free contributions to The Guardian and related pieces. This engaging but ultimately pessimistic exploration of the events of and prognosis of 2011 – the ‘Arab Spring’, the murderous rage of Andreas Breivik, the growing power of Hungarian ethno-nationalism, Occupy and the London ‘Riots’ – draws on elements of the latter but more of the activist oriented political/philosophical debates of the kind we see linked to the on-going ‘idea of communism’ project.

The first three chapters are principally analytical, exploring the meaning of the current conjuncture of economic crisis, conservative political populism and increasingly virulent ethno-nationalism segueing into resurgent fascist forces. The latter four then explore responses-from-the-left as seen in the ‘Arab Spring’, Occupy and the limitations of liberalism and social democracy and individualising responses to the crisis.

I enjoyed this: it is brimming with ideas, as we’d expect from Žižek, and his tendency to psychoanalytic/Lacanian digressions seems to have been kept under control (either by him or his Verso editors) – combined, this makes the collection engaging and very readable. My difficulty is two-fold. First it is very much a collection and not a coherent argument (although there is a clear analytical approach and argument that runs through the chapters it does not so much provide for a single coherent book as a coherent frame for each of the chapters), and I really appreciate his call for more comprehensive and materially informed analyses. Second, Žižek is a much better analyst than his is programmatic; that is, the collection tells us an awful lot about what is happening but much less about what to do about it.

My frustration here grows from the seeming shift away from the explicit strategic focus on the rich analysis of enclosures (of the commons of culture, human and social life, leading to new assertions of classed power and exclusions) related to four contradictions/antagonisms (ecological catastrophe, intellectual property, techno-scientific development and new forms of apartheid – to use his terms) in First as Tragedy and Living in the End Times to grapple with more tactical issues related to movements in action. While I accept the Žižek may have a clear view of what needs to be done, it does not come across as clearly as it should here.

So, topical, focussed and engaging essays exploring essential analytical questions but I wonder if in a time where we are beginning to explore ‘what is to be done’ (to channel Lenin) in more pragmatic activist settings we’re seeing the limits of Žižek. Once again, he has given a set of valuable and important analyses – but don’t expect anything more.

Zizek said he hated this cover: it looks like he does not care about the destruction behind him, or suggests that he had something to do with it. It seems nihilist. The book is actually about a point in our very recent history that seems extraordinary, looking back. It was a short pause in political alienation and disengagement. Many people, around the world, suddenly felt that it was worth trying to make things better. And they actually tried.

This is not the most usual book in Zizek's bibliohraphy, since it is very dated. But the year he refers to is worth remembering and analising. What eventually made the liberation movements fade? What was different in the first place, that inspired people to demand freedom and democracy?

As usual, Zikek's ideas are all over the place with pop culture references popping up everywhere. However, his book is not just entertaining philosophy; it also seems pretty prophetic. Written in 2012, he describes the uprisings of 2011 including Occupy Wall Street and The Arab Spring. The political/financial system of the world wasn't working for the masses and Zizek predicts that this will result in an anti-democratic anti-globalist popular uprising... Trump?

I love this stuff, turns out it is really easy to read and now I ponder if...

Mr. Zizek begins with a bit of Persian wit, "War nam nihadan". Perhaps no more than an exercise in rhetoric for a master of his craft, by which means transplanting the concept to the US-fronted, Western, psuedo-redemptive effort to win 'Hearts & Minds'.

Rather than maintain this focus on warfare, covert & overt, he shifts towards the wooden crown of Marxist economics in the second chapter. A moment of idealism is then followed up with observations on the Greek situation, correctly using mainstream terminology as far as I can tell.

Following hot on the heels of war and economy, the third chapter presents to the reader lumpen proletariat politics. I found this specially enjoyable. His masterful use of Victorian-era party games to simultaneously describe the ignorance in man, Napoleon's political genius and political inspiration of the disenfranchised. Breathtakingly precise (a very, very long breath), soaked with practised truth, here Mr. Zizek's runs a razor's edge true to a form of living power. His described awareness of societal cadence induces an understanding of the valence shits attributable to now-salient purges of Feminism.

My sketch of this book ends at the third chapter. This book lacks a single star as I have read it 'past the use-by date' and get a bad feeling, maybe from my own lateness. Maybe not. Suffice to nought, if Mr. Zizek's food for thought was available as a draught, I'd drink deep from the cup, nothing less than too much, poisons be damned! but how to get the chalice out of his hands?

My mans at the peak of his game. I can see why a lot of leftists don't really want to associate with him now. He gives in to some really base indulgences, and latches onto the cultural references. Also, his vision of a future is extremely accelerationist, and the left seems very scared of this fast coming apocalyptic change. I thought it was great analysis of the protests of 2011. A little prophetic at times of the Trump phenomenon. Highly recommend.

A quick read though oft times quite heavy for those not well versed in serious works like Hegel, Lacan, or the Wire.

I don't think he really addressed as much about 2011 as I was expecting but on the flip side it was fun to read it in Žižek's own voice. I definitely learned from this book, and will be thinking about some of the issues it raised for some time--all that you could ask for from such a slim volume.

Year of Dreaming Dangerously

Many of Zizek's readers (fan/groupies) are likely to be disappointed with this offering, especially those who consider themselves philosophical scholars and/or members of the intellectual bourgeoisie. For the rest of us, it's likely to be stimulating and thought provoking.

In "The Year of Dreaming Dangerously," Zizek gets down to business. And I don't mean that in a neo-liberal, capitalistic way, even if there is an excess of surplus-value here. Rather, and uncharacteristically perhaps, Zizek goes straight to the point. Instead of five or six hundred pages of entertaining obfuscation, this book is only 135 pages of purely condensed Zizekian wisdom.

Of course (pop)cultural references are peppered throughout the book, including an entire chapter dedicated to the TV series, "The Wire," which IMHO is the best television ever produced. Hegel, Marx and Lacan remain at the heart of this delivery, as Zizek lays his political and economic cards on the table. Is it a winning hand? As always, that depends on what you're holding and whether, or not, you believe he's bluffing.

Zizek goes even one step further, and some might say for the first time, by advocating a direct course of action ... hmm ... or is it inaction?

"Resistance is futile! Prepare to be assimilated!" say the Borg in Star Trek Next Generation. According to Zizek, if you are resisting, you've already been assimilated and in fact are a critical component to the functional continuance of the system you are resisting against. Indeed!

Zizek uses a Cuban example; if the fight against the black market ever succeeded, the entire Cuban economy would collapse. He also points to modern culture's fascination with sociopaths (Tony Soprano, Jack Bauer, Dexter, etcetera) and says that because the social bonds that holds society together have failed, we need sociopaths for society to function "normally." For the sake of society itself, only sociopaths can save us by breaking the rules.

Zizek suggests that the ongoing financial, ecological and social crisis is not brought about by sociopathic reckless spending, greed, and ineffectual banking regulations, etcetera, it's the system itself. Like a deep psychological mental illness, the more you resist, the more it persists.

The solution: stop resisting. Stop worrying about how to prevent the financial, ecological and social collapse, in order to keep the whole system going. Instead, Zizek recommends a model akin to Lenin during WWI: "ignore all 'patriotic' worries about the motherland in danger, cooly step back and observe the deadly imperialist dance while laying the foundations for the future revolutionary process." Good advice?

Zizek may not be alone here. Other deep thinkers advocate for the same. In "Beyond Civilization," author Daniel Quinn suggests going the way of Maya--shedding our culture, society and built environments, which are inherently unsustainable, by simply walking away from them. Buckminster Fuller famously posits, "You never change things by fighting the existing reality.To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”

How are we to accomplish such things?

Zizek: "what we need is a subject who combines the dedication of Jack Bauer [rogue counterterrorist agent, 24], the inventive pragmatic spirit of Stringer Bell [a drug lord's top general and strategic planner, The Wire] and the innocently malicious joy of Homer Simpson."

Whether you're a reader (or fan) of Zizek, or not, this book is worth your time, serious reflection and action/inaction. DOH!

The big question with Žižek seems to be: is there any substance to him, or is he merely a joker? Chomsky believes he's a charlatan, dazzling you with ten dollar words, and vanishing before you realize he's said nothing.

I think he's sort of a political raconteur. The style and consistency of his work is his message. But, yeah, it's a mess. As others have said, there are flashes of brilliance, but he seems preternaturally incapable of holding a theme together. He jumps around much too quickly, and when he does, it'll help if you're conversant in Hegel and Lacan, because Žižek has no time for filling you in.

Based on what I know of Hegel, I can well believe that Žižek is a disciple. Do yourself a favor and read some of Schopenhauer's regular insults for Hegel: Click "Didn't Get The Joke?"

But even with the spastic tautologies, Žižek is entertaining. I only wish he'd concern himself more with action. Modern-day Communists position themselves beyond application. They hen-peck every ideology, yet offer no alternative - not even Communism in Žižek's case, who says that Communism is deservedly dead. When they do act, you'll find them joining the ranks of all other progressives, be they Socialists, reformed-Capitalists, Green Partiers, etc.; and those groups are glad to have them, but the almost religious "saved" attitude is annoying. And when they do put forward actual plans of action, they're remarkably inconsistent. Žižek is the same, here advocating for small changes within the established systems, there suggesting total refusal to engage in the processes at all.

". . . in order to make the step from reformism to radical change, we must pass through the zero-point of abstaining from acts of resistance which only keep the system alive. In a strange kind of release, we have to cease to worry about other people’s worries, and withdraw into the role of a passive observer of the system’s circular self-destructive movement. For example, in relation to the ongoing financial crisis that threatens the euro and other currencies, we should stop worrying about how to prevent financial collapse in order to keep the whole system going. The model for such a stance is Lenin during World War I: ignoring all 'patriotic' worries about the motherland in danger, he coolly steps back to observe the deadly imperialist dance while laying the foundations for the future revolutionary process — his worries were not the worries of most of his countrymen."

This was probably the most interesting idea in the book for me, and I wish he'd explored it more (if he has a longer work on this, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me toward it). This seems to have a lot of relevance in the U.S. right now with the "Bernie or Bust" crowd. I'd like to know if Žižek favors one more than the other - gradual change vs abstaining.

Amidst his uncertainties, he finds a clever out by saying that promising signs of change should only be read as signs from the Communist future - that we'll only be able to see change in hindsight. As he'd established earlier in the book, the world cannot effect change that it's unprepared for. It first has to exhaust the limits of the present systems. Communists are either the most patient lot of people ever, the laziest, or they're total suckers. That I've listed three eithers might point to a fourth option."

كتاب مهم جدا لفيلسوف ومفكر شيوعي من سلوفينيا، يحلل فيه بطريقة غير تقليدية ما حدث في العالم كله عام 2011 - الربيع العربي وحركة احتلوا وول ستريت والحركات الاخرى المشابهة في بعض دول اوربا. المؤلف ذو ثقافة موسوعية وذو نظرة شاملة وعميقة للأمور، ولذلك فالكتاب صعب إلى حد ما في كثير من المواضع، حيث يشير في وسط الكلام بإشارات عابرة وأحيانا تفصيلية إلى بعض الفلسفات القديمة أو الحديثة وإلى بعض الأعمال الأدبية والفنية والسينمائية والموسيقية القديمة و المعاصرة، وإلى الكثير من تفاصيل الحياة السياسية المعاصرة في دول أوربا خصوصا الأزمة الإقتصادية في اليونان ورد فعل الإتحاد الأوربي عليها. الفصل الثامن مثلا يتحدث أساسا عن مسلسل تليفزيوني أمريكي هو "ذا واير" والذي يترجم في الكتاب إلى الشبكة ( وبالمناسبة الترجمة ليست جيدة في كثير من المواضع من الكتاب )، والذي استمر عرضه من 2002 حتى 2008، ويعرض لعلاقات الناس بالسلطة وبتنفيذ القانون عبر عدة مؤسسات حكومية، واشترك في تمثيله ألي جانب الممثلين المحترفين بعض الأشخاص الذين قاموا بتمثيل أدوارهم الحقيقية في الحياة في مدينة بالتيمور. ووصف المسلسل بأنه يعرض صورة قريبة جدا من الواقع الحقيقي للحياة في مدينة امريكية

رغم أن الكتاب لا يعرض بالتفصيل لثورات الربيع العربي، إلا أن المؤلف في تعليقاته القليلة على الأحداث في منطقتنا يبدو واعيا تماما ومتعمقا في تفاصيل ما حدث، على سبيل المثال تشبيهه لما حدث في مصر بما حدث سابقا في إيران: ثورة يقوم بها الشباب من أجل الحرية والعدالة الاجتماعية ومن أجل تغيير شامل في نظام الدولة تختطفها التيارات الدينية الاصولية وتفسدها تماما بمساعدة المؤسسة العسكرية التقليدية. وهو يرى بعض النقاط الإيجابية فيما حدث في مصر وتونس مقارنة بعنف الانتفاضات في أمريكا : شباب يثورون ويطالبون بالتغيير بطريقة سلمية تماما وبدون اللجوء لمرجعية دينية أو اصولية

يتحدث الكتاب أيضا عن نمط الحياة الحديث الذي تروج له وسائل الإعلام، وهو يربط ذلك بأفكار المحلل النفسي جاك لاكان وتفرقته ما بين اللذة والمتعة ( وهو من الأجزاء الصعبة التي تحتاج إلى تركيز) وسيطرة فكرة "الإعتدال" في نمط الحياة، حتى أن المجلات والمواقع أصبحت تتحدث عن أن الجنس مفيد للصحة وكأن هذه هي الاهمية الحقيقية للجنس، وبالطبع يمكنك ان تأكل ولكن إحترس من الكولسترول، ويمكنك أن تشرب على أن تكون مشروبات دايت، وعلاقة ذلك بالنظرة السائدة حاليا لتعاطي المخدرات والتدخين، حيث يشير مثلا بسخرية شديدة إلى مضيفه الأرستقراطي الأمريكي الذي أصر على منع أحد ضيوفه من التدخين ولو حتى خارج المنزل حتى لا تتأثر صورته أمام جيرانه، في نفس الوقت الذي قدم فيه بعض المخدرات الخفيفة لضيوفه في نهاية السهرة ! ويشير ألى أن هذا التغيير انعكس في أفلام هوليوود، حيث كانت في الأفلام القديمة تستخدم التدخين ضمن المشاهد الدرامية او مشاهد الإغراء، أما الأن فهناك حسب ما يقول الكتاب إتجاه إلى منع كل مشاهد التدخين في الافلام، وبل هناك من يطلب حذفها من الأفلام القديمة. كل ذلك بدون المساس مثلا بمشاهد العرى أو الجنس المكشوف، بمعنى أن المثال أصبح هو "الصحة" وليس الأخلاق
يتحدث الكتاب أيضا عن نفاق الدول الغربية في حديثها عن نشر الديمقراطية، ونظرتها العنصرية تجاه شعوب العالم الثالث، وايضا عن الخطأ الذي تقع فيه الجماهير الثائرة المطالبة بالحرية عندما تطالب فقط ببعض الإصلاحات في النظام، بينما يقول المؤلف بصراحة أن الإتجاه الرأسمالي الحالي في العالم كله يحتاج لتغيير جذري، وأن سؤال السلطة للجماهير الثائرة "ما الذي تريدونه؟" الغرض منه هو أن تكون الإجابة ضمن النظام القائم في حين أن المطلوب هو التخلص تماما من هذه السلطات الفاسدة التي تنهب الشعوب وثروات البلاد
وينتهي الكتاب بنبرة تفاؤل : الانتفاضات والفورات التي شهدناها حتى لو لم تحقق الغرض منها الآن، فيجب أن ننظر إليها على أنها إرهاصات وبدايات متفرقة ستتجمع في المستقبل وتحدث تغييرا جذريا في العالم كله. وكما يقول المؤرخ الإنجللزي الشهير إريك هوبسباوم، فأنه يتوقع أن يرى قراؤه نهاية العصر الأمريكي بكل ما يمثله

صديق عزيز أخبرني بأن المؤرخ الأنجليزى (إيريك هوبزباوم) قال أن بداية القرن العشرين جائت متأخر سبعة عشر عاماً، أى أن القرن بدأ مع ثورة أكتوبر بروسيا القيصرية. والحقيقة ان هناك تشابهاً كبيراً بين بداية القرن العشرين وبداية القرن الواحد والعشرين وهو ان كلاهما بدأ متأخراً؛ غير أن القرن الواحد والعشرين بدأ متأخراً أحد عشر عاماً فقط مع ثورات الربيع العربي وما تلاها من أحداث ومجريات مازلنا عالقين بها حتى الآن.
وأحقاقاً للحق فأن كان لهذا القرن فيلسوفاً يستحق أن يقال عنه بانه فيلسوف بداية القرن الجديد فبدون جدال هو (سلافوي جيجيك) فيلسوف القرن الواحد والعشرين.

أجمل ما فى الكتاب أن (جيجيك) بعيون فيلسوف مابعد ماركسي، يرصد المتغيرات في الرأسمالية المعاصرة، يرصد علاقات الانتاج مختلفاً مع ماركس، معتبرا أن المتسيد حالياً هو "العمل غير المادي" مقابل "الانتاج الصناعي عند ماركس القرن التاسع عشر"، فالعمل غير المادي ينقسم إلى "العمل العقلي الرمزي" أي منتجي الأفكار والنصوص والبرمجيات، والقسم الثاني هو "العمل الانفعالي" أي مضيفات الطيران وجليسات الأطفال وغيره، ومعتمداً أيضاً رصد انفصال الرأسمالية عن البرجوازية، وتسيد "البرجوازية المستأجرة" الخاص بالمدراء التنفيذيين وأصحاب المناصب الكبرى في الشركات متعددة الجنسيات

Welcome To The Desert Of The Real was about the 9/11 attacks.
First As Tragedy, Then As Farce was about the 2008-9.
Now, this is about the 2011 protests, their failure, their meaning, and so on.

It's a very Zizekian analysis, and worth reading. As usual, it ends with a legitimately emancipatory call for proper revolutionary politics. Many points common with the communist left: criticism of social democracy, critique of ideology, and so on.

I give it a lower score as Zizek very often self-plagiarizes: I don't mean repeating points, which he does - I mean outright copypasting entire sections from previous works (I noticed sections from both Welcome To The Desert Of The Real and First As Tragedy, Then As Farce here - who knows if it copies from some of his other works). Nevertheless, it is worth the read.

Zizek whirls like a hurricane through the most noticable events of 2011 (the start of the Arab spring, occupy Wall Street, the massprotests in Greece and Spain, the London riots) clarifying them with his own insights and with the help of philosophical context by Pascal, Bodieu and many others (ofcourse Lacan, Marx and Hegel have the main focus). Besides his factual accuracy and splendid writing style he does something refreshing in the leftist literatary world: unlike Chomsky he isn't afraid to move outside of the politically correct leftist views on subjects like the wars in the Balkan, the Islamic regime in Iran, the Islamic world and the London riots (consumerists consuming > looting because of the failure to consume; not a socialist revolution of any sort).

Argues that popular uprisings (Arab spring, Occupy Wall Street, Turkish coup attempt, Brexit, Greece, etc.) are due to democracy/capitalism failing a large portion of the populations they're meant to include. If you don't have the means to consume and/or feel disenfranchised there aren't many outlets other than protests/violence. The third to last chapter uses my favorite show "The Wire" to illustrate this: "an almost imaginary but inviolate boundary between the two Americas...it's about the America that got left behind". Zizek concludes that "the rage is building up and a new wave of revolts will follow". Che Guevara said, "a people without hatred cannot vanquish a brutal enemy," referring to the institutions he was revolting against.

I picked this up because I am a huge fan of his speeches on youtube. He has a few good points, but it took actually reading his words, rather than just hearing them, to realize that he mostly just has style. It is clear from his writing that he is a less reconstructed Communist than what he represents himself as in his speeches. I remain convinced of his value, but more as a court jester than a philosopher. This book has included some of the most thoroughly self-contradictory paragraphs I have ever read. He may be a great psychologist, but he is kind of a shit political philosopher.
