Tyler, a late twenty-something whose life has nearly passed him by, has an online UFO podcast and--surprise--is struggling to make money. He works at night as a janitor while in the off-time, "creating" content in a desperate attempt to find viewers and attract followers. Scott, his best friend, is attempting to get Tyler to drop his odd obsession with UFOs and finally start his life "in the real world"--before it's too late. Tyler is about to follow Scott's advice--when he gets the message that can finally deliver to him his dream.

Imagine the investigative grit of "A Current Affair" merging with the surreal, eerie charm of "Twin Peaks" and a satiric take on the dreamers behind endless UFO and ghost-hunting podcasts. This tale promises a perfect cocktail of comedy, mock-news show reporting, and spine-chilling dread, delivering twists and laughs in equal measure.

It's a story for those brave enough to seek the truth, even if it means confronting the unexplainable!

Odd

Decent time killer not good but not terrible either. the characters are pretty bland, ok concept tho. I just couldn't get into it probably because the art is pretty ugly

UFO: Undercover! – A Hilariously Haunting Romp Through the Cosmic Unknown
Rating: 4.5/5

Eric Warwaruk’s UFO: Undercover! is a genre-bending triumph—part satirical takedown of internet conspiracy culture, part heartfelt ode to stubborn dreamers, and part spine-tingling paranormal thriller. As someone who typically rolls their eyes at UFO lore (yet secretly binges reruns of The X-Files), this novel hooked me with its razor-sharp wit and unexpected emotional depth, leaving me equal parts amused and unnerved.

Why This Book Shines
Warwaruk’s genius lies in balancing Tyler’s absurd podcasting escapades with genuine existential stakes. The mock-news segments (reminiscent of A Current Affair’s campy sensationalism) had me snorting with laughter—until the narrative pivoted into Twin Peaks-style eeriness, leaving me with actual chills. Tyler’s janitor-by-night, ufologist-by-day grind is painfully relatable for anyone who’s ever chased a passion against all logic. Scott, the voice of “real world” reason, avoids being a mere foil; his tough-love interventions crackle with authentic friendship tension. The novel’s greatest feat? Making me question whether to laugh at Tyler’s delusions or cheer for his quest.

Emotional Impact & Revelations
This book ambushed my emotions. Tyler’s late-night podcast rants—equal parts desperate and hopeful—evoked my own cringe-worthy youthful obsessions. The moment he receives that fateful message, my skepticism warred with giddy anticipation—a testament to Warwaruk’s ability to make even the most outlandish plot twists feel earned. By the climax, I wasn’t just invested in Tyler’s UFO hunt; I was moved by his search for purpose in a world that dismisses wonder.

Constructive Criticism
Some satirical targets (e.g., podcast clichés) are hit so relentlessly they risk caricature. A deeper dive into Tyler’s pre-UFO backstory would amplify his transformation. The tonal shifts, while mostly masterful, occasionally jar—one chapter had me unsure whether to chuckle or white-knuckle my Kindle.

Final Verdict
A must-read for fans of Resident Alien’s quirky charm or Night Vale’s surreal humor—but with Warwaruk’s distinct voice blazing new trails. This isn’t just a story about aliens; it’s about the terrifying, hilarious act of believing in anything when the world says you’re crazy.

Thank you to Goodreads Giveaways and the publisher for the gifted copy. I’ll never scrub a floor again without glancing at the sky.

Pair with: Ninjas Are Butterflies for complementary absurdity or Aliens Like Us for more satirical extraterrestrial antics.

For fans of: Christopher Moore’s irreverent wit, Ghostbusters’ blend of spooks and snark, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide’s cosmic irony.

Note: Read with your favorite conspiracy podcast playing softly in the background—trust me, it enhances the vibe.

This Goodreads win was ok.

The plot gets a little bogged down over talk bubbles but it's a fast read and not to crazy. 7 issues of fun.
