I read Middlemarch years ago, as well as Silas Marner, they are both wonderful stories.
The language is different than what we use today, and so the books feel dense when you first begin reading. There are parts of both books which are funny although the message is serious.
Give yourself time to read slowly and the words sink into your imagination.

It is considered a must read because it's wonderful. Sometimes you read a classic just because it's a classic. Certainly not the case here. A great story (stories really), well told. Worth every minute spent, and more. Grab a cup of your favorite brew, and enjoy.

Stunning writing. I went through a rage of emotions as the characters sealed their fates and lived with the consequences. Took me 3 weeks to read.
Loved it but did notice I was counting the pages. She took us through the mud with her!

The language, especially in the beginning is a slog, but this is a "Classic Read," and worth the effort to enjoy the crafsmanship of this lovely story.
