With the rare gift of magic, Terra is an outcast to her own people in the Dwarven city of Merran-Unkar. So, when her closest friend is brutally murdered by creatures thought to be extinct, her world shifts. Driven by grief, she embarks on a treacherous journey with the mysterious hermit that saved her life to hunt the creatures down. Following the blood-stained trail, they discover darker forces at work looming in the shadows. As allies join their quest, each with hidden truths, Terra must confront her own darkness. Can she find a way to bring light to the night, or will revenge consume her?
This was an awesome adventure to read. The more I got into the book, the more immersed I felt in the world that the author created. The world building was done well, the characters had depth, and the friends Terra made were unique and likable. The storytelling is masterfully done - the overall story as well was the stories within this story. Bard’s stories as well as Thaelin’s story were fun to read and made me feel present in the adventure. I also gotta say how much I loved Jark’s character - the unexpected encounters with characters like Jark kept me hooked. Terra’s character was wonderfully dynamic; the reader is let in on her inner struggles and her drive to overcome and move forward. I greatly enjoyed this book - I would recommend to those who enjoy fantasy novels. And I’m not big in the fantasy genre, so as a casual reader myself, I know other casual readers will enjoy this as well. The book is clearly intended to be the start of a series, so I’m really excited to read Terra’s next adventure!
A fantasy with adventure, magic, and a unique band of allies working together to fight a dark force. Terras character grew with the story along with unlikely friendships. I especially enjoyed the witty banter and strength found in this epic tale. Oh and Singer! 😉
