Why did the characters talk in such a stilted way like that? Was it to kind of make up for the debauchery later in the story? Debauchery is still debauchery even wrapped up in polite and proper dialogue. I love debauchery, but it needs to be earnest. This felt almost as the author tried to put make-up on the story, so it wouldn't be so "dirty" or something. I didn't connect much with the characters and it was a bit unbelievable . The "I know what you really need just by looking at you" have never been quite believable for me.
But, it was alright, but quickly forgotten.
The prompt picture for this story should be framed and never forgotten, though!

Quite a hot little novella from Havan, written as part of the 'Hot Summer Days' event 2011
Story about Dalton and Archer, and a temporary friend Kyle having some fun at 'The Sanctuary'. Told from Dalton's POV, the best part for me was 'I stood in the large room plotting my actions. I had changed into black leather pants, sans boxers, no shirt and a supple black leather mask that covered three-fourths of my face; think Phantom of the Opera meets Marquis de Sade. Thigh high lace up black boots completed my simple ensemble'....brain working overtime...

Man, I love me some Dalton. What an amazing voice. I LOVED his narrative!
Oh... and the ice man cometh! RAWRRRRR!
Dalton's narrative is what made this story extraordinary for me. I loved BOTH men but Dalton.. he was just mesmerizing! I love his confidence, his sense of humor and how long and how well he stalked his prey! He had a very keen sense of not only who Archer was, but what he needed. Gotta love a man with a plan. :)

J’ai vraiment apprécié cette petite nouvelle épicée, mais j’ai été ultra frustrée qu’elle soit aussi courte parce qu’elle a un potentiel énorme et qu’Havan Fellows nous met l’eau à la bouche avec deux hommes délicieux, une scène à trois extrêmement suggestive et pff cela s’arrête. En fait, elle jette tous les ingrédients pour faire une excellence sauce onctueuse et savoureuse, et vous ajoute quelques croutons pour vous donner envie, heureusement que mon imagination est très fertile car la dernière phrase m’a achevé.
Le récit est fait par la voix de Dalton, le type même de l’homme que vous détestez, sexy, arrogant, sûr de lui, ultra dominant et adepte du BDSM où il excelle. C’est l’homme qui a réussi et qui ne pense qu’à satisfaire ses désirs, et celui qu’il veut par-dessus tout c’est Archer, qui en apparence est lui aussi un homme qui contrôle tout, mais chez qui Dalton a décelé un besoin qu’il est certain de pouvoir satisfaire.

This was terrific! Dalton and Archer are captivating characters. The sex, the D/s play, the mentioned previous facts, the emotional side, everything was excellent.
My only annoyance is with some inconsistencies and/or «coincidences» in the way in how the relationship starts up
And that ending.... This story NEEDS a continuation. Havan , I really, really hope that this 2nd edition implicates that a sequel is coming soon.

Very smexy! Dalton was a perfectly wicked schemer, but you can't falt a guy for knowing what he wants and going all out for it;) I loved that Arch recognized the potential for his true nature, but didn't make it easy. The lovely ladies were great secondary characters - very naughty but nice. Would love to see a continuation of this story. Excellent job!!!

Oh. My. God. This was absolutely amazing. I've never read a story with this turn of D/s dynamics, and it was so skillfully done! Even readers who aren't necessarily fans of BDSM will enjoy the scalding hot sexual tension, and the first person voice of one of the main characters.

Humm une nouvelle série qui me paraît bien croustillante sur le thème du BDSM. Et l’auteur nous avait déjà régalés de sa plume avec le livre Le Jugement de Jude, bref que de raisons de craquer avec en outre une couverture très belle et qui évoque sans nul doute la sensualité et des plaisirs inavoués…
Ici il s’agit vraiment d’une introduction à cet univers car c’est une longue nouvelle, pourtant ce n’est absolument pas bâclé, le but de cette histoire est de nous titiller progressivement jusqu’à ce que nous soyons pantelants devant cette débauche de sensualité débridée.
L’auteur suggère beaucoup concernant la psychologie de ses personnages et on est extrêmement intrigués et désireux de savoir où cela va nous mener. J’ai aimé les personnage de Dalton et Archer et je veux absolument en savoir plus sur eux. Pourquoi ce besoin de dominer chez Archer, pourquoi cette fascination chez Dalton pour Archer ? En fait beaucoup de questions se posent et notre envie de savoir est décuplée.
Concernant les scènes sexuelles et bien nous en avons pour notre argent, ici il n’y en aura qu’une mais mazette ça va en crescendo. Le sexe n’est pas évoqué de manière vulgaire et le BDSM abordé non pas comme purement du sexe mais comme bien plus, cela représente beaucoup aux yeux des personnages aussi bien psychologiquement que dans une certaine recherche de l’esthétique.
En résumé une excellente introduction qui pose les bases sans rien dévoiler mais en réussissant le tour de nous rendre accro et impatients de découvrir les tomes suivants. Et comme toujours une excellente traduction de notre amie Jade.

BDSM is currently all the rage and I am always on the lookout for a good story with this alternative view, so I will be the first to admit the story blurb as well as the series title intrigued me. What Secrets of the Sanctuary would be revealed? What needs are hidden? So when I read the first sentence and realized the story would be in first person, I expected to struggle through the reading since I am not a fan of the style. Boy was I wrong. From the first sentence of Hidden Needs by Haven Fellows I was hooked.
Who was this man that had such a keen eye for detail? Who was this man who needed control and consistency so much as to be predictable? As I learned the routine of one and the somewhat stalker tendencies of the other, I constantly had a smile on my face while reading his observations. What would he do with this knowledge and how could he be so unnoticed? I wanted to find the answers and my curiosity was peaked the further I read.
That is not to say Ms. Fellows did not satisfy my curiosity, she did and she did it in such a way that I forgot I was reading in first person. Not only that, she did it in such a way it had me waiting with bated breath to see what would happen next.
I have never read Ms. Fellows before but I can honestly say this will not be my last time searching for her work. This story may have been short but it was filled with humor, acceptance and the beginnings of a relationship. I am looking forward to what else can be spawned within the walls of The Sanctuary.

Oh Havan, how I adore you. Seriously. Only you could put so much spice and heat into so few pages. I practically embarrassed myself in a hospital waiting room when I almost drooled, and then had to reread it while fanning myself. Ha! The other people around had no clue what they were missing.
"Okay, you have my partial attention. How do you believe you can be of help to me?"
"I can bring the fun in, Arch. I don't need to tell you that you are a successful man. You have wealth, power, prestige, and respect. You are the man that most people aspire to be. Nothing wrong with that at all, but you lost something along the way. I'm here to give you back what you lost."
Havan captured my interest from the very first sentence, and I was drinking in every exchange between Archer and Dalton. What fantastic characters. Archer, so sure he's a Dom, and Dalton, knowing that what Archer truly needs is someone he can let go with. What a story. The author left me wanting more, more, more, and now I'm going to pester her to write it. Listen up, Ms. Fellows… I'm coming for this story, don't think I won't.

Woo-wee! This is short, but it packs a punch. The story is told from Dalton’s POV. I usually like to see both characters POV’s, but having everything from Dalton was wickedly delicious. Dalton is confident with a sharp sense of humor, and daring. Don’t forget daring. He must have the balls of a lion, lol, considering what he does in the story lol! (Nothing bad, but talk about a huge risk. Wow.) Dalton has his eye on Archer, Mr. Ice King as he’s referred to in the story. The man is calm, cool, and collected. Controlling with a razor tongue.
And Dalton knows exactly what Archer needs, even if Archer doesn’t.
The BDSM action was smoking hot. Both men know what the score is here. No newbie’s to worry about freaking out. The reader doesn’t get to know much about either character or their lives… and it’s not really important. For this short, all you need to know is that Archer has a hidden need. This is definitely worth reading.

Dalton has been watching Businessman Archer for a while and is ready to make his move.
Dalton is slick and assertive. He knows how to read a man and figures he knows exactly what Archer needs, and what He ( Dalton) wants is Archer.
For such a short story, there is plenty of twists and turns, the suspense was nail-biting, I couldn’t wait to figure out what the heck was going on and I was not disappointed.
I will say I did wonder who and what Dalton was and what he looked like .
If you like nail-biting suspense, a short sexy story, and hot Dom’s this is for you!

First this should have been tagged as M/M/M since the sex scene was three guys.
But that’s not why I didn’t like it. I didn’t like because it had no character development or anything. Just a long scene before the sex club three-way. All we know is for some reason this Dalton is obsessed with the other guy because he is rich, arrogant, and just unpleasant. We know nothing at all about Dalton so it’s hard to like or dislike him but the other guy was impossible for me to like. He makes the waitress cry because she brought lemon water when he wants lime, yeah how endearing.
This story just wasn’t for me. If you want a story about a douche with no development and a lame 3-way then this is for you

C'est bon mais c'est court !! Super scène de domination, et très bien écrite, mais on en veut plus... sur les rapports des deux hommes, qui sont-ils, ce que cherche l'un, ce que trouve l'autre. Certes, ce n'est pas le but d'une nouvelle érotique, mais le jeu est tellement bien amené que l'on ne peut s'empecher d'y voir le prologue d'une vraie relation amoureuse. Et de rêver d'avoir une suite à cette histoire entre Dalton et Archer.
J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir en tout cas à découvrir ce premier épisode des secrets du Sanctuaire, et à retrouver la belle écriture d'Havan Fellows, que j'avais beaucoup apprécié dans Le jugement de Jude.
