Wendy Smith published as Ariadne Wayne for three years before deciding she didn’t want to be someone else all the time. She’s an Apple Books and Nook bestselling author, whose book In the End, written as Ariadne Wayne, was named one of Apple’s best books of 2017. All her stories come with a quirky sense of humour, and she cries over everything.
Can I just say that Declan O'Leary is my absolute favourite Main Male Character in SOLID GROUND, Book 5 in Author Wendy Smith's HOLLYWOOD KIWI'S series. This review is pretty much going to be a rave-fest about how much I loved the book.
Straight up, Declan was a grounded type of character. Mid-forties, he owned that through bad decisions and behaviour over the years, he'd sabotaged his own promising career and was now fading into obscurity. He was going to walk away, and this time, make good on the promise to himself. I loved his integrity from the first interaction with Zoe and her inebriated friend when he offered up help and quietly retreated into his own company after an intense and highly charged conversation with Zoe.
Her attraction to Declan was immediately palpable, yet she remained steadfastly loyal in watching over her friend until she proved to be not as loaded as first thought, just a light-weight drinker so ensured Zoe she would be fine in their room and encouraged her to head on out and enjoy all the sexiness that was Declan O'Leary.
Ms Smith's writing was all kinds of hot and high on the chemistry. The night out was a dream event that every woman would die for if given the opportunity and it was easy to see that Declan was as invested as Zoe. Hooooo-ee, what a hot and dirty gentleman Mr O'Leary turned out to be and it was from that moment I decided he was my favourite.
It was he who initiated the phone number swap and promise of calling, and to my surprise, Zoe made more of an impression on him than even I could have appreciated, especially when Declan hesitated in calling over the following weeks and it was he who doubted his own fading worth in the light of the young, highly successful effervescent Zoe who had only just sold her dating app for nothing short of a fortune that overshadowed his!
I have to be honest, I loved Declan O'Leary and he could do no wrong. Not only was his integrity soul deep, but his self-reflection rang true, and he treated Zoe like the lovely lady she was, carrying a precious cargo. 💖 Yeah, I could wax lyrical about that man's gorgeous virtues, but I'll just offer noises of solid encouragement that you really DO NEED to read this book.
Zoe is the Kiwi connection which occurs later on in the book where the couple are introduced to the group from the earlier books in the HOLLYWOOD KIWI’S series. What a treat it was to catch up with Josh and Delaney, Reece and Pania, Alex and Lana as well as Jessie and Shane.
SOLID GROUND is witty, and Ms Smith's brilliant kiwi humour was very evident throughout. Its tropes include an age-gap, a fading Hollywood star and a surprise pregnancy.
Like the first four books, I’ll be ordering this one is signed paperback because it is that good. 5-Stars •💖🖤•
"Solid Ground" is another witty, fun, romantic and at times steamy, book by Wendy Smith. Declan is in Las Vegas to let off some steam after yet another failed movie. Zoe is in Vegas to celebrate her best friends upcoming wedding. Their paths cross and both their lives change forever! This book was an easy and fun read that I just kept turning the pages on and couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!
I can’t get enough of these Hollywood leading men (and woman) and their significant others. We meet Zoe in this one. She is in the states temporarily from her home in New Zealand. She isn’t like other women that Declan has met, obsessed with him because of his popularity. Zoe is a self made woman, smart, attractive and it shows right from the beginning! I really enjoyed Declan and Zoe’s story from beginning to end!
I have been waiting a long time for this book and Wendy hasn’t disappointed me. Declan and Zoe are such a great couple and it was nice to catch up to Delaney and Pania again too. This is such an amazing story and I highly recommend you read this book. I give it 5 stars 🌟
