What if the problem isn’t your fear but the way you think about it?

This isn’t a typical self-help book that tells you to “think positive” or “eliminate fear.” Josh says something very different: nothing you feel is bad. Not fear. Not anxiety. Not self-doubt. According to him, the real issue is that we’ve been taught to treat certain emotions as problems and because of that, we fight them, which blocks our creativity.

Josh shares stories from his acting career and childhood and explains how he developed what he calls “Creative Invincibility.” It basically means this: no emotion or negative thought can stop you from doing your best work. Instead of trying to calm your nerves, you learn to use them as fuel.

The writing feels like he’s talking directly to you. It’s casual, funny at times and very honest. The book is divided into sections on presence, creativity, and insight, with small exercises at the end of chapters that actually make you reflect.

The tone is very energetic and informal but some ideas are repeated for emphasis. If you’re tired of fighting your own mind before taking action, this book can really help. Not perfect, but genuinely useful and different from most self-help books.

I generally don't write review books, this one is special because while reading I was overwhelmed with the author's tone and style of writing.
Author blends his background as an actor and teacher — having worked with top performers and creatives — with practical exercises and storytelling to show the readers how creativity and innovative ideas isn’t about fixing your mind but losing your mind — letting go of mental resistance and trusting your instincts. It's a must read for all those who are scared to follow their instincts and inner voice , usually get scared by chaos and crowd outside.

It’s a wonderful guide for anyone stuck in their head — overthinkers, creatives, performers, leaders — who wants to transform anxiety and self-doubt into genuine confidence, creativity, and presence.

This book by Josh Pais aims to help readers unlock their secret to understanding and controlling emotions, debunks myths and uncovers techniques to boost innate creative invincibility. The language is very casual and almost as if the author is having a conversation with the readers.
What we feel, experience on the inside is translated in this book into biological chemical reactions occuring in our body.
We can find it eye opening and helpful for our confidence in our day to day life scenarios as the examples given are quite relatable. The author dwells from his own acting, teaching experiences and suggests ways to reduce anxiety, overthinking and to listen to ur body.

I picked this up hoping for some creative motivation, but I walked away with a whole new perspective on how to handle stress and anxiety. The core message—that we don't need to force ourselves to be "calm" to do great work, but can actually use our nervous energy as fuel—was such a massive relief to hear.
I’ve already started using the "I'm Back" technique when I catch myself overthinking, and it genuinely shifts my mood in seconds. It feels like Josh is right there with you, not preaching, but cheering you on. Whether you're an artist or just someone who spends too much time in their head, this book is a kind, practical, and refreshing guide back to the present moment. Highly recommend!

Lose Your Mind: The Path to Creative Invincibility by Josh Pais is a bold, unconventional guide to unlocking authentic creativity. Instead of teaching you how to “get better,” Pais challenges you to drop overthinking, self-judgment, and the need to perform — and simply create from instinct.

Drawing from his experience as an actor and coach, he introduces practical tools to quiet the inner critic and access a fearless, playful creative state. The tone is direct, honest, and deeply liberating.

A refreshing read for artists, performers, and anyone ready to stop blocking themselves and start creating freely.

The book emphasises the power of letting go of resistant thought patterns. Each chapter is filled with examples that show how we limit ourselves unnecessarily. It encourages introspection and self-awareness while offering techniques to embrace new perspectives. I appreciated its mix of philosophy, personals, anecdotes, and exercise exercises. By reading it, I failed my thinking, expanding and my decision-making improving. Losing Your Mind is not just a guide. It’s a journey towards mental liberation and a more conscious life.

Not a quick fix, but definitely a reflective one.
It talks about how much of our creativity gets blocked by constant overthinking, constantly monitoring and judging ourselves. What I appreciated most is that it does not offer quick hacks like many other books. Instead, it asks you to honestly observe your own patterns.
I just went through the book slowly and it definitely helped me to understand this better. At times, it can feel a bit repetitive, but it pushed me to reflect deeply.
I wouldn't say this is a dramatic transformation book, but definitely worth a thoughtful read.

The author challenges the idea that we should try to stop feeling nervous or anxious. In one of the chapter, it talks about "Trapping Pigeons" explaining that fighting your feelings only makes them stronger. Instead the "7-to-12-Second Truth" shows that if you just feel a
sensation, it will naturally shift and fade very quickly. I suggest this book for anyone who has to perform or speak under high pressure.

One of the most powerful parts of this book is about "Neutral Vision" which is a way to look at your own habits without judging them. The chapters explain how we often get stuck in repetitive negative thoughts that keep us from moving forward. By simply observing these patterns, you can start to let them go and feel more free. This is a must-read for anyone who
wants to break free from self-doubt.

The book introduces a new way of working called "Creating from Impulse". It talks about “Whole Body Listening" and the "Acting Goddess" shows that truth is more compelling than a perfect plan. The author shares stories from his own acting career to prove that being
authentic is what really connects with an audience. I recommend this to any artist or entrepreneur looking for more authenticity in their work.

One of the strongest ideas in the book is that fear and nervousness are not problems at all. The author explains them as simple energy moving in the body. This helped me a lot because usually when I feel fear, I assume something is wrong with me. But the author’s story of using his nervous feelings in an audition made me see fear as natural and even useful. I found this section very comforting and encouraging.

The final sections offer "Health Insights" on how staying present can help with things like addiction, stress and chronic pain. The book ends by encouraging readers to reclaim their sense of wonder and stop letting their "chatterbox" mind run the show. It emphasizes that you are already "in the zone" if you just stop fighting yourself. This book is a life-changing
tool for anyone ready to live more boldly.

I tried his idea during a parents’ meeting where I normally panic. Instead of fighting my nervousness, I just felt it and I actually spoke better.

The book describes how truth is something we express through presence, not fancy language. Even saying a simple sentence honestly can feel powerful. The example of someone saying “I feel tired” with real feeling showed this clearly. I appreciated how the author removed pressure and made communication feel natural.

There is a beautiful teaching about “whole-body listening.” This means listening to someone not just with your ears but with your full attention. The author explains how this creates strong connection. I liked the idea that true communication is not about perfect words, but about presence. This part made me think about the way I listen in my relationships.

There is a story about a scary moment in London where something breaks suddenly. Instead of avoiding fear, the author learned to use it. This story made me realize that the things I fear might actually help me show up better and more honestly. It was written in a very simple and relatable way, and it showed that fear can be a strength.

There is a section about how our body holds tension like armor. I found this very helpful. The author gives steps: notice the tight spot, name it, and breathe into it. The example of tight shoulders after stress was very relatable. This section helped me understand my body better and treat it with more kindness.

The author talks about creating from impulse instead of habit. He says that impulses are tiny signals from the body that guide creativity. I liked the comparison between autopilot (doing things the same way) and impulse (being alive in the moment). This made creativity feel easier and more natural. It encouraged me to trust my instincts more.

The idea that nervous feelings rise and fall within 7–12 seconds if we don’t fight them felt very new to me. The author explains that the body knows how to complete these sensations naturally. I appreciated the gentle way he described it. The example of feeling nervous before a meeting and just breathing through it made me feel like I can actually handle difficult moments.

The author talks about how we inherit emotional reactions from our ancestors. I found this surprisingly calming. Instead of blaming myself for reacting strongly or getting anxious, I understood that some of these responses come from old family patterns. The example of “great-great-grandma” and the nervous system was simple yet powerful.

The author talks about how the mind creates unnecessary drama. He gives the example of how one nervous feeling can turn into a whole story like “I’m not good enough” or “I will fail.” I found this very relatable because I do this all the time without noticing. After reading this, I started catching my thoughts more quickly. This section teaches awareness in a simple way.
