I’m an artist who can’t stand the limelight, and he’s a CEO who thrives on attention. We’re complete opposites forced to work together for a Valentine’s Day fundraiser, but the only way to achieve our goal is to be honest with each other. Easier said than done.
Gabby Despite my name, I’m shy and prefer to use art to express myself. The only time I’ve ever opened up ended with a ruined friendship and a broken heart.
Now, I hide behind an easel because I don’t want the world to see me or know the secret I’ve been keeping. If word got out, my life would irrevocably change.
After volunteering at Cornhole for a Cause, I’m required to work side-by-side with the one person I’ve been pushing away. I let him in once, but if I let him in again, then he might discover who I really am.
Tim Gabby says I broke her heart, but I don’t know what I’ve done. Every time I try to get close, she pushes me away. It’s not until we’re both tasked with finding a world-renowned artist and find ourselves on a plane to Paris, that things begin to change.
Just when I finally think I have a shot at forgiveness, I learn that Gabby’s been keeping something from me all along. If we can’t learn to trust each other, then maybe it’s time for me to move on.
The only problem is she has my heart and won’t let go.

Another nice Baggersville story, with the two main characters secretly into each other while biting each other’s heads off in person (but then there end up being scenes like Paris), a subplot about the boys’ dad (I can’t say that I blame Ace for his mistrust and reluctance, although Dylan does seem to be trying to do the right thing by the end), nice sprinkles of wit throughout, and a smaller message about the humbler backstories behind some of this world’s most popular celebrities and media. I would gladly take some of the diner’s fresh peach pie with vanilla ice cream, too!
The characters all get on like they’re still teenagers! And I had a feeling from the very start that I knew who Iana Cross was. I thought that it was particularly funny when she just started messaging Tim out of the blue in Chapter 15…(Relatable anxiety, though.) I think that I would like her paintings in real life; they sound vivid.
In terms of minor characters: I didn’t like Merdy as much in this one, but I did like the addition of Mabel’s happily-ever-after.
Overall, this one is a nice little romantic and faith-oriented installment into the Baggersville series!
Sweet and cute. This next book in the Beanbaggers of Cornhole County follows the story of Gabby & Tim. Years later from the first book these two are adults now they are at odds but only because neither can forget the other. Cute and fast read. I received this ARC book for free and my review is completely voluntary. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County” continues with Gabby and Tim. There’s enough twists and turns to keep you turning to the next page. I couldn’t stop until I finished it in one day. Enjoy!
"Smoochin' the Surly CEO" is the second book in "The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County" series. Once again, Madison Love delivers a delightful, sweet, darling romance. This book was an ARC copy I received and, thus far in my journey as an ARC reader, Madison Love is my favorite author to discover and read for. I have not read all of her books yet but, so far, not a single book has been a disappointment or unenjoyable. "Smoochin' the Surly CEO" is just as fun, swoon-worthy and lovely as the other books of hers I have read. So let's dive in to this review.
Now, again, I hate spoilers so I will be as detailed as I can without giving away anything that could spoil the story for those who have yet to read it for themselves.
Let's begin with the "negatives" or "cons", whichever you prefer, of this book. There aren't many, truly, but these were little things that I noticed and either confused me, or distracted me throughout the story whenever I picked up on these little things. So first of all, the book summary doesn't match the actual book in my opinion. There are some little details of the summary that contradict the actual story itself and any time a little contradiction happened I found myself having to stop and reflect to clear up any confusion I encountered based off my understanding of the summary and the actual context within the book. For example, the timeline of the story is leading up to Valentine's Day and, despite it being mentioned a couple times, I legitimately kept forgetting the big fundraiser was supposed to be a big Valentine's Day thing. It didn't seem to get the emphasis the summary gave it. Another example, in the book summary Tim says he doesn't know what he's done in the past to break Gabby's heart yet in the book he does know what he's done. It's mentioned multiple times, in fact, and followed up with his desire to fix things even though Gabby keeps him at arm's length. There's, also, mention in the summary of Tim maybe needing to move on but he never really thinks or behaves that way in the book. In fact, he pretty regularly states he's willing to wait for Gabby to be ready to give him a chance so they can be together. Perhaps the book summary was an early draft and it didn't get updated to match the finished product? Another "problem" I encountered, and this is more of me just being picky, was, I assume, a formatting error within the ARC eBook I received. There are some emails and chat messages throughout the book but the formatting for those messages was pretty wonky. Some would be blown up in large, bold text and the others would be almost microscopic in size. It was a kind of difficult to get through those portions only because the formatting changes threw me off so much. If it had been more uniformed instead of such an abrupt, jarring change it wouldn't have been a big deal. Again, that's me being picky since I don't remember that being an issue in the previous books.
Now, on to the fun bits to the story and all the things I loved. In "Smoochin' the Surly CEO" we get to witness Gabby and Tim's love story. Truthfully, I didn't remember very much about their characters from the previous books except that: Gabby is an artist. Tim wanted to be a pilot but for reasons outside of his control that didn't pan out. And, of course, they have some obstacles to overcome before they can find their happy ending. The story picks up with Gabby teaching art at a local high school and Tim, as CEO of Cornhole for a Cause, planning the organization's biggest fundraiser of the year. It comes about that Gabby agrees to help Tim track down an illusive artist that has never been seen in public but donates her work to be auctioned off at Cornhole for a Cause every year. If you don't remember, Gabby is the illusive artist, she has sold and displayed her artwork under a pseudonym for many years, only her parents as well as Josie and Morgan, know her true identity. I will admit I found it a bit odd that she never told her friends about her "secret identity", after all they kept Connie Jo's real identity a secret why wouldn't they do the same for Gabby? However, it is made clear that Gabby is mostly controlled by her fear of being vulnerable with those around her, which her reasoning for those beliefs are somewhat sound but better explained within the story so I won't divulge too much information here.
In the beginning, Tim and Gabby agree to try and rebuild their friendship which is quickly put to the test while at a cornhole tournament. It's at this tournament that a "male side character" is introduced and, honestly I was expecting more of an antagonist angle from this character that never fully hit it's mark. Now that I think about it, the woman Tim dances with at the New Year's party in "Smoochin' the Wrong Twin", also, makes an appearance in this scene and I didn't think the ending of her scene made any sense. Tim, respectfully, tells the woman he's not interested, after forgetting her name and her correcting him, and she makes a statement that she would believe him if he had gotten her name right. I don't understand that. If a man can't be bothered to even remember your name and then proceeds to tell you he's not interested and why, honey, that means he's not into you so let it go and move on. That woman never reappears in the story but I did find it an odd choice for her to be thrown in all the sudden and end her existence with a statement like that. As for the "male side character" he pops up a couple more times but, again, never really hits the antagonist angle I was expecting. He was more used as a plot device to make Gabby uncomfortable and need rescuing yet it never seemed to come full circle in that aspect. This character disappears eventually and we don't see him for the rest of the book either. So Tim and Gabby's "friendship" has some bumps in the road, but let's be honest their hearts are way too involved for them to be just friends at this point.
After the altercation at the cornhole tournament, Gabby and Tim are, once again, at odds with one another. But Time certainly doesn't let that deter him in his efforts to win over the woman who holds his heart. He has these comments every so often throughout the book where he displays a protectiveness towards Gabby and, I will say, I love a protective man, it's so dreamy, but Gabby seems to flip-flop on how she feels about it. Sometimes she loves that he makes her feel protected and looked after and then other times she's "too tired to deal with a lecture" when he literally wasn't lecturing her at all. Tim wasn't even being unreasonable or overbearing in his "protective comments" he was clearly, genuinely looking out for Gabby because he cares about her. There's lots of little moments all throughout the story where Tim quietly, without being asked, takes care of Gabby and ensures she has what she needs; be it: a pastry when he learns she hadn't eaten since the day before, a dessert when he catches her eyeing his, a safe ride to church when bad weather makes the roads dangerous, etc. He does all of it without hesitation and without expectation, it's all done out of the love he has for her. Seriously the way Tim so clearly states his intentions all throughout the book is so impressive to me. That's exactly the kind of behavior every woman wants from a man, especially a man intent on pursuing her, and it just shows a man's trustworthiness and devotion to the woman he loves.
Of course, we can't forget the Baggersville Biddies and the comedy they bring to the story. Just like in "Smoochin' the Wrong Twin" these ladies said things I was't expecting but were totally hilarious. I, also, love that despite the comedic element they bring to the story these women also act as Godly mentors to the younger generation in town. There's a beautiful scene, which brought tears to my eyes, where the Biddies surround a character and immediately start saying a quiet prayer for them when they witness a traumatic response begin to overwhelm said character. These are the kinds of Godly mentors we all need in life. They know how to see the blessings in every day life and find joy in the little things, but they don't shy away from the tough stuff. Life is hard and they're willing to get down in dirt with you and pray with you where you are. I, honestly, couldn't stand the Biddies in "The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County", in that book, I found them rude more than anything else, but they won me over in "Smoochin' the Wrong Twin" and continue to do so with each subsequent book.
Let's address the plot point I was fully expecting to see that turned out way different than I was expecting. So you'll remember that Tim's father left the family when they were kids. It was discussed enough in the beginning of the story that I knew it would come back around later and, oh boy, did it ever! I didn't expect it quite the way it happened or for the "resolution" that came about after the fact. Nor did I expect some of the foolishness Gabby displayed along the way. It, obviously, all works out in the end but for a minute there I was stressed and not sure what some of those characters were thinking. Tim shuts down and locks everyone out and Gabby desperately just wants to know how he's doing and uses some rather underhanded, foolish tactics to get him to open up for her own peace of mind without considering his needs in the moment. Of course, that comes back to bite her in the backside but it does ultimately lead to the "grand gesture" that we have all been waiting for.
Although, I think Gabby could've avoided some of that foolishness if she'd had a "mean friend" to tell her when she's acting sideways. I feel like everyone handled Gabby with kid gloves, like she's this little fragile creature who can't handle any hardships. Sometimes we could all benefit from having a “mean” friend, allow me to explain. Sometimes the “mean” friend is someone who’s ready and able to be the one who helps you set boundaries. Be it, literally speaking and setting boundaries on your behalf. Be it, moral support as you speak and set boundaries yourself. Sometimes we need support from another to boost our confidence in our decisions or to aide us in doing so. Sometimes the “mean” friend is someone who’s willing to go to bat for you, likely before they get all the information, ready to “jump the gun”, if you will, all to defend what they perceive to be a slight against you. Perhaps sometimes you have to tell them to ”be nice”, but you know their intentions always root from a place of love and care for you. Someone who’s motto may be, “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” and “I ain’t the one” because they undoubtedly have your back, “got your six”, no matter what. Sometimes the ”mean” friend is someone who is unafraid to speak the truth to you no matter how it may hurt your feelings. They speak truth to you out of love because they want what’s best for you and don’t want to see you flounder or suffer unnecessarily. The Bible tells us over and over again that speaking the truth is loving, holding one another accountable is loving. Unfortunately, sometimes, that truth is hard to hear and may hurt one’s feelings. But each of us needs that “mean” friend who’s bold enough to speak such truth to us and over us, no matter how it may make us feel. In the end, that “mean” friend is a true friend who loves you and wants the best for you.
Gabby didn't need everyone handling her with kid gloves like she'll break at the slightest provocation. Gabby needed someone to say, "Girl what on earth made you think this was a smart decision?" or "Girl don't even think about it. That is a disaster waiting to happen!" Truthfully, the only character I felt was truly upfront with Gabby throughout the entire story is Tim himself. He never shied away from telling Gabby how he felt, or what he needed. It might take a minute to fully get there but he always came around and communicated clearly with her. Gabby seems to have this habit where she assumes the worst, again why she does that is explained more in the book, without a truly justifiable cause, in my opinion, and Tim seems to be the only one who knows how to "snap her out of it" and make her realize she wasn't thinking logically but emotionally or to make her step back and realize why exactly her train of thought was inaccurate. Honestly, Tim has the patience of a saint because I was ready to smack Gabby upside the head half the time like "sister come on get it together!" He never pushes Gabby past her boundaries and repeatedly tells her that they can wait to pursue their relationship or divulge a secret, whatever it is, until she's comfortable enough to trust him.
Let's circle back to that "illusive artist hunt" for a minute. Remember Gabby is supposed to be helping Tim track down that artist and imagine how he feels when he learns that love of his life is, in fact, the illusive artist he's been trying to find and even communicating with to a certain extent. Certainly not a joyful moment for Tim, as I'm sure you can imagine. Again, Tim displays impressive, admirable understanding and self-control. Refusing to address the truth in a public setting that could compromise Gabby's privacy or have their serious discussion while emotions are running high and they might say things they later regret. He makes his stance very clear that Gabby needs to decide what she wants because they can't keep going in circles keeping secrets from one another, otherwise they'll have no chance at a future together. Seriously, I'm just so impressed with this man's communication skills and patience when dealing with Gabby and their relationship. So Gabby, of course, comes to the conclusion that a "grand gesture" is needed to prove her trust and devotion to Tim after having been secretive for so long. Likewise, Tim, also, thinks he needs a "grand gesture" to show Gabby that no matter what he's on her side.
It's finally time for the grand Valentine's Day fundraiser, again I kept forgetting it was Valentine's Day it didn't seem to get the emphasis I was expecting, and unbeknownst to one another Tim and Gabby have their "grand gestures" planned out for one another. The moment we've all been waiting for and, yes, it's just as sweet, touching and endearing as you could imagine. Tim and Gabby get their happily ever after wrapped up quite nicely. Without divulging too many details, dreams come true just about all around for the little crew from Baggersville and I can't wait for the rest of the series to see how it all ends.
I feel like I've been more critical in my review than praise-worthy, but I really did love this story and it's characters. I have every intention of reading it again and revisiting these characters. Madison Love is a talented author who has built a wonderful little fictional town that I would love to exist here in reality. Her books have been a delight to read and review, despite how my reviews may sound. I can't wait to continue the series and see how each couple finds their happy ending. I absolutely recommend "Smoochin' the Surly CEO" to anyone who enjoys a truly clean, sweet, heartfelt romance.
Gabby is a teacher at Swaggertown High School and her students adore her. She has assigned them to write a 500-word essay over the weekend about their favorite artist and why they’re special to them. She reminds them that artists are not just painters and can include musicians, sculptors, authors, and more. For bonus points they can write an additional 250 words about themselves and their preferred form of expression. Some of them grumble, but some also appear excited about the assignment. Marissa Wellesley is one of the excited students as she makes the remark that there will most likely be some who write about her. Gabriella reminds her that she hasn’t sold one piece of art and turns the attention back to Marissa and asks who she’s going to choose. Her favorite artist is Iana Cross because her paintings are so lifelike, and she is so mysterious. Gabby counters her with maybe she’s a man, since she’s never had a showing, nor has anyone ever seen her. Gabby reminds her that she doesn’t want them to write a biography, she wants to know why the artist resonates with them and what connects them to their art. If you haven’t read The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County also written by Melissa, you should. Gabby enjoys competing in the Cornhole competitions in Baggersvile and she’s headed there to meet up with friends. Cornhole for a Cause is near and dear to her heart. They hold fundraisers to help with the program and the upcoming Valentine’s Day Auction needs auction items. Gabby’s friend calls her and tells her she needs her help. They’re trying to find some way to get in touch with artist Iana Cross since she usually donates a set of cornhole boards for the auction. She suggested to Tim that he reach out to Gabby for help since she’s in the Art Field. Gabby tells her that her name is not recognized and hasn’t painted the sets since college. Tim wants her to try to find Iana and convince her to make a public appearance at the auction. He believes her presence will bring in wealthier donors and more money will be raised. Gabby is not on board with this and wants to avoid him at all costs. Tim isn’t sure what he did to make Gabby dislike him so much. She tells him she wouldn’t have accepted the teaching position if she had known he was back in town. The only thing Tim did was tell her he loved her, and she didn’t reply. They agree to be civil to each other. Now, whether that is possible remains to be seen. The Cornhole for a Cause is hoping to be able to purchase furniture for four homes that burned down at Christmas. The homes are presently being rebuilt. This fundraiser is coming together, and they’ve secured Gabby’s cousin, Connie Jo, to sing. Connie Jo is a famous pop star whose stage name is Joelle Summers. Swaggertown reminds me of my hometown of Cowpens, yes Cowpens. A great small town where everyone knew everyone else. Friday night football games were packed with fans and everyone knew everyone and pitched in when anything was needed. This wonderful and endearing story is filled with drama, friendships, people helping without asking, and so much more. Who is Iana Cross and why is she such a mystery? Will they be able to Iana Cross appear at the fundraiser? Will the fundraiser be successful? Will they be able to raise enough money to fund the needs for the program? To find out these answers and so much more, get your copy of Smoochin’ the Surly CEO by Madison Love today! Madison Love is a wonderful storyteller, and you’ll fall in love with the characters, the town, and people who step up to help wherever they are needed.
You know that feeling when you pick up a romcom expecting some lighthearted fun, and it surprises you by sneaking in a whole lot of heart? Smoochin’ The Surly CEO by Madison Love is exactly that kind of book. It’s charming, small-town sweetness mixed with some serious second-chance romance tension, and while it wasn’t perfect, it definitely had me hooked!
Gabby Abernathy, an art teacher with a hidden artistic identity (ooh, mystery!), has spent years nursing the wounds of her past heartbreak. Enter Tim Lockwood, the grumpy yet determined CEO of a non-profit organization (and her former almost-love) who suddenly needs her help to track down a secretive artist. The catch? What follows is a slow-burn, small-town romance filled with snarky banter, meddling townsfolk, and enough cornhole tournaments to make you wish you lived in Swaggertown.
What I Loved:
- The Small-Town Charm: This book is packed with warm, Hallmark-esque vibes. From the Biddies (a trio of older ladies who are basically small-town fairy godmothers) to cornhole competitions that double as charity events, the setting felt alive and welcoming.
- Gabby’s Journey: I really enjoyed watching Gabby’s growth. Her struggle with imposter syndrome in the art world and her hesitancy to take risks felt authentic. She’s a character you root for, even when you want to shake her and tell her to stop running from happiness!
- The Banter: The chemistry between Gabby and Tim is so fun! They’ve got history, they’ve got misunderstandings, and they’ve got plenty of sparks. Their dialogue had me smiling, even when they were being stubborn (which, honestly, was most of the time).
Final Thoughts: If you love small-town romance with a side of sass and a sprinkle of faith, Smoochin’ The Surly CEO is a solid pick. It’s cozy, funny, and full of lovable side characters who steal the show. While it didn’t completely knock my socks off, it left me with a smile—and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need. Would I read another Madison Love romcom? Absolutely! Would I enter a cornhole tournament after this? Highly unlikely, but hey, never say never. 😉
Would I Recommend? Yes! If you’re in the mood for a light, heartwarming romance with a quirky community and a dash of second-chance feels, give it a shot. Just be ready for some frustratingly stubborn characters who take forever to get their act together. But hey, isn’t that half the fun?
I admit to loving series that follow groups of individuals pairing them off with romantic partners as the series progresses. I also love books set in small towns where everybody knows everybody’s business and most have each other’s backs with a few undesirables usually and some quirky ones too. This series fulfills both my loves plus adds a whole lot more to love. The series starts with the eight young people from the small town of Baggersville, Texas who came together under the mentorship of Morgan and Josie Gallagher (The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County-Prequel), now adults, some having left, and now all eight are back, some wounded, some with secrets, but all knowing that they have been called back to Baggersville for a purpose. The first book in the series Smoochin’ the Wrong Twin tells the wonderful hidden identity romance of Connie Joe and Hayden and this book includes another hidden identity of a renowned painter Iana Cross as well as not just the second chance but possibly the third chance at love for Gabby and Tim. Their story is very moving as their timing always seemed to be off, when one admitted to love the other couldn’t, and then when they could the other didn’t feel worthy, then the walls came up but could they just as easily be broken down? Truth and honesty are keys to their story, if these are not can their love withstand it? The majority of the characters in this book are the same throughout the series but with each book the reader learns more and more about each one which brings them alive and up out of the pages. The book offers lots of good wisdom as Tim and his brother Ace deal with an alcoholic and absent father and deal with forgiveness when he returns. It deals with PTSD and anxiety issues in some very touching scenes. It also provides wisdom over accepting what God has planned and not getting stuck over what we want, being honest and truthful is required but sometimes it takes patience too and the Baggersville Biddies are always willing to give guidance as to when and where smoochin’ should be done. Yes, there is lots to love in this second book (third if you count the prequel) in The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I adore authors who can have a cast of characters introduced in one book and immediately I want more books to learn more about all the individual characters and their lives. I think that takes talent when an author doesn’t only gain my investment for the MCs of their story, but also the side characters. It speaks to a skill of knowing how to write to people to connect with your audience. Madison Love has perfected this in her The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series.
Book two focuses on Gabby and Tim. In the first book, it was obvious they had a history and that feelings still bubbled under the surface. This story sheds light on their past and how timing has never been on their side. There was always something in the way, although it was their own selves more often than not standing in their own way.
Madison writes in a voice that is passionate, caring, and full of grace. As Tim deals with some of his past issues, he finds himself being honest with Gabby for the first time about a lot of his struggles. In learning about Tim in this new way, Gabby is able to let her own walls down, allowing a wonderful love to finally flow free.
I loved seeing old friends from the prequel and book one. As MCs move to side characters, the dynamic within the group remains rooted in friendship, doing life together, and remembering to trust each other. I can’t wait to see who the next couple will be in this series.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: 💙Third Chance Romance ✨Small Town Romance 💙Christian Romance ✨Clean Romance 💙Hidden Identity ✨Corporate x Artist 💙Coming Home
This was a beautiful story about a second chance at love between two long-time friends whose paths at one point sadly diverged from one another. Gabby and Tim have known each other since high school when they first fell in love. They had the right love then, but it definitely had not been the right time. Painful life events and personal afflictions had come in their way then, but somehow they'd managed to stay civil to each other despite the pain they both had inflicted on one another. Now that they are older and wiser, they are far more emotionally capable of acknowledging their feelings and are braver in going after the love they'd once set aside.
Apart from the focus on the main characters rekindling their love, this book also dealt with emotionally charged topics such as social anxiety and parental abandonment. I liked how the author crafted the story so that personal triumph over these painful experiences was achieved by the characters. I especially loved the conversations between the various characters as they talked about what they were going through, what they felt was the right way to deal with the things that pained them, and what their hopes were for themselves. We could see the characters showing human flaws such jealousy, stubbornness, distrust, and bitterness, while at the same time showing the capacity to forgive, provide staunch support, and offer unconditional love. By the end of the book, your spirits are without a doubt uplifted knowing that people truly are capable of everything that is good.
I received an advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Not that the author gave me much of a choice. One chapter in, and I was already enamoured by Tim’s tenacity. Ms Love’s take on the grumpy boss is refreshing; very early on she lets us in on why Tim acts the way he does, and thankfully that’s not all there is to his personality. He’s sweet, he’s honest, he’s responsible. Honestly Gabby won.
And I loved Gabby. I really appreciate the author not making it look like Christianity is a sudden fix for everything. Gabby’s anxiety persists, with reason, but we do see how it improves through faith and effort. Her relationship with Tim also grows nicely (of course, with some help from the watchful Josie and Morgan). Then there’s the dreaded third act, which, of course, had to happen. Normally some other books would use the miscommunication trope to force some drastic consequences, and while I understand the appeal of that, I love that here Tim and Gabby choose to talk it out like adults, instead of clamming up and pushing the other away. That’s my favourite thing about their relationship, their maturity. I guess both of them being committed Christians plays a part in that.
Love the side characters. Elise. Merdy. Ace (can’t wait for his story!). The biddies, especially when they surround Ace to pray for him. The ‘trouble’ with Dylan and Delilah. The small town charm. The emphasis on family. The Christian theme runs strongly through, as does a ton of humour. The heartfelt moments are reeeally heartfelt. And I love that despite being clean, there are some tender kisses.
Yup, this one’s another hit from Ms Love.
Received an ARC from the author (thanks!) via BookFunnel, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is another great installment in the Beanbaggers of Cornhole County. I just love these characters and this cause.
Gabby shies away from the limelight. She never desires to be center stage for anything. Her artwork is phenomenal, but again she would rather just fade into the background and paint. She is working with Cornhole for a Cause for a benefit when she gets paired with Tim. Tim broke heart into pieces many years ago, and she has never fully recovered from that painful loss.
Tim is the CEO of Cornhole for a Cause. He is the polar opposite of Gabby and thrives in the limelight. Gabby keeps telling him he broke her heart, but he is still not certain exactly what he did.
These two just needed a push in the right direction to get them on the pathway they both needed to be on. As they work together for the Valentines fundraiser, Tim is trying so hard to get through the walls that Gabby has erected around her heart and life. The road will not be easy, but anything worth having is worth fighting for. I adored Tim and his gusto for life. I was cheering him on as he tried to win Gabby's heart.
This book is filled with delightful characters with wonderful stories to share. I love the concept of the competitive cornhole. This organization has given new life to people who needed it so much. There is also an inspirational message in the story that will move your heart. This is another winner for this series.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I did not read the first book in The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series, but I did enjoy this second book, "Smoochin' the Surly CEO". The many characters were a little confusing in the beginning of the book, but I mostly got the gist of who they were by the end. Gabby once confessed her love to best friend Tim years ago when they were teenagers. Tim wasn't ready, and her confession ruined their friendship. Fast forward to present day: They're not kids anymore, and Tim concedes that he does have feelings for Gabby, but every time he gets close, she backs away. Now they have to work together in Cornhole for a Cause, and even as they become close friends again, Tim feels Gabby is holding something back--a secret perhaps? Gabby has agreed to help Tim locate famous artist Iana Cross, whose paintings sell for millions, even though only a handful of people know who she really is or what she looks like. Gabby is shy and considers herself not relationship material. Can these two work together to make this charity event a success? Can they have a second chance at romance? Meanwhile, Tim and his brother Ace encounter a shock as a family member returns, asking for forgiveness and telling everyone they're a changed person. This clean second-chance romance story has some twists and turns, sound counseling advice, and a feel-good HEA. I admit I figured out who the mysterious Iana Cross was early on in the book. I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.
This is a super cute book. I really like Gabby and Tim together. They feel authentic. The book does have some cheesy parts, and I'd probably give it 4.5 stars because some of them are a little over the top cheesy.
Gabby is hiding a secret. I figured out her secret early on. I could be wrong, but I feel like it was at least hinted at in the prequel book. On that note, I would recommend reading the whole series in order, starting with the prequel. While each book can be read on its own, reading it from the beginning allows you to get to know each of the characters before you get to their actual story. I think that's the best way to read it. So far, I would recommend all the books in the series.
This book is clean. There's no swearing, sexual content, or graphic violence. There's some kissing, and it does discuss a few potentially sensitive topics. These include abandonment by a parent, alcohol abuse, anxiety disorders, and a mild mention of PTSD. All of these are handled sensitively.
While you know how this book, as well as the other books in the series, is going to end, the journey to the end is highly enjoyable. This book does have some Christian elements. While the book before this felt a bit unnaturally preachy at times, I felt like this one felt more natural when it came to the religious elements of the story.
I received a free ARC from BookSirens, and I left a voluntary review.
Is a sweet small town, second chance, secret identity romance with no cliffhanger. Some of the lines I really like --- “Nothing too bad, so don’t get your knickers twisted,” --- “I’d prefer to sit on my couch and chill, but noooo, you’ve got to torture me with a run.” --- Tipping is bad for cows but good for your soul. “You’ll feel better knowing you’re doing a good deed.” --- “No way! I’d rather clear a room and engage hostiles than go through a woman’s purse. What if it’s booby-trapped?” --- “I want to give us a chance, but I need to go slow, and that kiss we shared was all fast and had plenty of gas.” --- being a father is more than bringing home a paycheck and that success or failure does not have to define you as a man. It’s how you respond that matters, --- “But Daddy said that kissing leads to babies, which is why I’m not allowed to kiss a boy until I’m 40.” ---- "instilling in us the value of what it means to be a child of God and to show our love for one another through kind words and acts of service, to build each other up instead of tear each other down, and to never give up on our dreams.” --- What's Shaylene up to? What's the Biddies up to? What's Dylan up to? These and other questions will all be answered. I love Gabby and Tim's story and I'm sure you will too. I've loved everyone of her books that I've read and can't wait to read her next book.
I want to start by saying I received an ARC of this book. It is a Christian Romantic Comedy book. The main characters are Tim and Gabby. Tim works at Cornhole for a Cause as the CEO. Gabby is an art teacher and painter. Tim has loved Gabby for a long time but things never worked out for them. Now he is getting the Valentine’s auction for Cornhole with a Cause and wants to reach out to a painter who wants a set of cornhole boards every year. Can he figure out who she is? Can Gabby help him? As they spend more time together they realize just how much they truly love each other. Can they forgive each other for the times they have upset the other? How will Tim and their friends react when they learn Gabby has been keeping a big secret from them. I will say by heart broke for Tim and Ace. When they needed a father the most they didn’t have him. This book was truly amazing and I was able to relate to it in some ways. There was struggling to forgive, dealing with anxiety, and struggling to overcome fear. As mentioned in this book giving forgiveness can be one of the hardest things to do. With God all things are possible though. We also saw some miracles in this book which I loved. I want to say so much more but I won’t. This series has been amazing so far. If you haven’t read any of the books I recommend them.
This is the third book of the Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series, if you include the prequel (which I definately suggest reading - it's so worth it). Tim and Gabby are at the heart of this book, and they've been dancing around eachother since they were teens. Growing up best friends, they knew everything about eachother, ot maybe not as much as they thought.
The whole cast of characters are developed with personality and obvious care. Readers get to know not only the history between the MCs, but their personal backstories that lead to their choice and actions. There were times I was sad and tearful, while others had me laughing at their situations and antics. For me, it's a sign of a powerful story that it can run me through a rollercoaster of emotions, and leave me feeling content, fulfilled and happy at the conclusion. This book contains lots of secrets and misunderstandings that stand between the once best of friends. Will they be able to settle their misconceptions and move forward, or will they be stuck in the pain of the past?
I can't wait to see which of the remaining pairs will be featured in the next book (Hunter & Merdy or Ace & Ellise). Either way, I'm there for it! I voluntarily reviewed a gift copy of this book. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
This book is fantastic and I am really loving this series. In this book we concentrate on Gabby and Tim. They were best friends in High School and then fear over took them and rather then have a relationship they walked away mad. They both moved out of town and now they are both moving back so maybe these two besties will get a second chance to find their love. Gabby is moving back to town and going to be the art teacher and Tim is moving back to become the CEO of Cornhole for a Cause. Gabby is the one that does not like any attention on herself and Time seems to thrive on attention. They will be working together for the Valentine's Day fundraiser and the only way they can do this is to be totally honest with each other. That may be easier said then done. Gabby is keeping a big secret from almost everyone in town and until she opens up and lets everyone in on this big secret, can a relationship survive? Tim has loved Gabby forever but she keeps pushing him away afraid of being hurt all over again. Will they finally learn to trust each other and be honest and see what the Lord has in store for them?
I am having so much fun reading this book, and this series. Tim and Gabby have built such high and thich walls around themselves to protect their vulnerable areas. Gabby had been hiding behind a pseudonym for years, shielding her true self behind Iana Cross' artistic success. Tim has struggled with low self-esteem for many years after a few spiteful words thrown by his father in a fit of drunken temper and depression. I loved how God worked in both their lives to tear down walls that rivaled Jericho's to be able to build a beautiful new relationship between them that honors His presence in their lives. I really liked the idea of both the Cornhole non-profit auction and the senior student art show. The senior art show, in particular, was a cool idea. I liked how it worked 'outside the box' to encourage the students to showcase their interests and goals. It was a great example of practical applications of academic classwork.
I received a free advance copy of this story from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Gabby and Tim's story is more of a second chance romance than opposites attract, although there is that element too. It was never the right time, they both had some serious personal issues, and they are both keeping some huge secrets that need to come to light before they can have a relationship. Watching Gabby deal with her anxiety, and Tim work through his insecurities as they flirted and danced to and away from each other on their way to their happy ending was a lot of fun. Faith wraps through the story, but never gets preachy.
What really makes this story though is the amazing supporting cast of friends, family and community members. The friendships, love and support they have for each other is truly beautiful. I also enjoyed the scenes with Gabby's students. I wish I had a teacher like her!
Beanbaggers of Cornhole County book 2, and it is the first one I read. While I think it is enjoyable as a standalone I am rushing back to read the prequel and book 1 because this town is just too much fun!
Gabby and Tim , she’s an artist ,he’s a CEO . She cannot stand the limelight and he thrives attention . They’re both forced to work together for a valentines event. Volunteered at a Corn Hole event for a good cause ,working alongside the bloke she can’t abide. Well she keeps pushing away. You see she has a secret and he doesn’t yet know who she really is . They’re on a plane to Paris when he gets the gist of the situation which is…haha I’m not telling you’ll just have to read this awesome book .mSuffice to say there’s twists and turns aplenty ,but when two people are meant to be ,especially in Beanbagger’s County then it’s sure enough. There’s going to be a party and it’ll be hale and hearty. Very well written ,I must say and those angst feelings along the way. Well sublime reading ,every time . Keep them coming we had a good time. Bravo and encore. Could not ask for more. Great writing so inviting and ever so good as of course I knew , it Madison Love so I’m telling you , she’s great!
This novel is much more than a good old southern Christian romance. Oh, there is a sweet romance, although it is a bit rocky. There is also some good humor. But there is also the serious issue of forgiveness for deep hurts in the past. The forgiveness concept gets even harder when there is a current betrayal of trust. Love has included an interesting exploration of anxiety too. All this happens with the context of Christian belief.
Love's writing style is great. She has wonder characters, some quite quirky, like the colorful wig wearing Biddies. The story is a feel good one, full of people doing good for others in the small town. Love includes a good Christian faith message. There is a huge secret along the way but the reveal was not surprising. Although this is the second book in the series, it reads well on its own.
I recommend this heartwarming romance. It is a very enjoyable novel to read.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book through BookSirens. My comments are an independent and honest review.
A heartwarming third-chance romance about love, faith, and redemption. Gabby and Tim had always a thing for each other, but was never the right time. Older, wiser, and finally ready, they have one last shot at the love they’ve always longed for. Their journey is filled with emotional depth, touching on social anxiety, abandonment, and forgiveness.
✨ Tropes You’ll Love: 💞 Third Chance Romance – When love keeps finding its way back 👫 Friends to Lovers – A close-knit group that feels like family 🧠 Emotional Healing – Overcoming past wounds and growing together 🙏 Faith & Personal Growth – A Christian message woven seamlessly into the story
The side characters add richness to the story, each on their own journey of growth. While the pacing drags in places, the uplifting message and heartfelt relationships make this a touching, faith-filled read. Perfect for fans of emotional, inspirational romance! 💕

This book is the next book in The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series by Madison Love. This is an enjoyable story that I highly recommend! I felt like I was coming home to the town of Baggersville! This story focuses on Gabby and Tim, but it has a few subplots that provide background on some of the other characters. There is humor throughout particularly when the Baggersville Biddies are around!
Gabby is an artist who prefers to stay out of the limelight. In addition, she teaches high school art, but she also has a secret she’s been keeping.
Tim has just become the CEO of Cornhole for a Cause. Cornhole is big in the town of Baggersville and Cornhole for a Cause is a non-profit that was started 10 years ago by Josie and Morgan Gallagher after a miracle cancer recovery for Josie.
Gabby and Tim were friends when they were in their teens, but Tim broke Gabby’s heart and she is afraid of getting hurt again. They still have feelings for each other, but will her secret keep them apart? Read this delightful story to see if Gabby and Tim can trust one another again!
I received a copy of this book from BookSirens for my own voluntary review.
Madision Love has written a fun, easy-to-read small-town Christian Romance. In it, Gabby, an extremely shy art teacher with a secret has to help Tim, her old high school flame now turned businessman with a fundraising tournament. Gabby and her friends are cornhole champions and they hope to keep their standing in the area. She and Tim had broken up years before because of a misunderstanding and Gabby, who suffers from anxiety is unwilling to ever be hurt by him again.
The story veers between the preparation for the tournament and the efforts of everyone attempting to uncover the identity of the top million-dollar artist Iana Cross who is donating a painting for the auction.
The romantic tension between the main characters is a sweet slow burn and fairly straightforward. The other characters in the story are fun and are all developing love stories of their own.

Madison Love returns to Baggersville in Cornhole County, Texas, for SMOOCHIN' THE SURLY CEO to tell the story of Gabby Abernathy and Tim Lockwood.
Gabby is an art teacher at nearby Swaggertown. She has a huge secret that she's keeping from her friends, including Tim Lockwood. Tim recently returned to Baggersville to take on the CEO position at Cornhole for a Cause, a non-profit that helps those in need in the community.
Once again I found myself enjoying visiting the small town, catching up with the community I've come to happily spend a few hours with. I am especially fond of the Baggersville Biddies -- Lettie, Alma, and Mabel -- who are always on hand to lend a helping hand or share some (sometimes unasked for) advice.
Recommended highly.
I received an advance reader copy from the author through BookSirens, for which I thank them. All opinions are mine.
As with the other books in this series, this one was terrific! I couldn't put it down! It was fun to visit Baggersville and the gang again for some cornhole and drama! This time we get to see more about Gabby and Tim. Way back in HS they were together but fear tore them apart. Jump forward to present day and they are trying to figure out how to manage being around each other again since Tim has moved back. While emotions get a little messy, these two will have to confront fear, self doubt, anxiety, alcoholism, hidden parts of themselves and decide if there is enough between them to overcome. I loved how raw these two were, for good and bad. Issues were talked about in a very real and honest way while not retracting from the story at all. It was beautifully done. I loved Gabby and Tim and can't wait to read about the next couple in this amazing friend group!
Clean, Christian romance. Part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone.
Gabby moves back to Baggersville from Oregon. She accepts an art teacher position in the high school. She does not realize her ex-boyfriend, Tim, was coming back as well. They work on trying to get their friendship back on track. Both have secrets that need to be revealed before they can really move on. what are those secrets? Can they expose them and trust each other and God?
Great story on how you need to reveal your whole self to God and others in order to trust completely. You have to learn to be vulnerable, and that's hard! The characters were great as well as the side characters. They really make the story. Definitely good read.

I love all things Madison Love and this does not disappoint, this is part of The Beanbaggers of Cornhole County Series. This is Gabby and Tim's story. Gabby Abernathy is an art teacher, she is shy and uses her art to express herself. Tim is CEO of Cornhole for a Cause. Years ago Gabby said that Tim broke her heart; Tim said he loved her, but she didn't say it back. This year the annual Cornhole for a Cause annual festival will be held at the Baggerville Baptist church. Every year well known artist Ina Cross paints a set of cornhole boards that raises a lot of money. They think if she would make an appearance it would raise more money. Can they locate her in time? Can Gabby and Tim figure out their relationship? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Madison Love!!!!
Another great book by this author! As in her previous books, these characters easy to get to know and sympathize with. This book is part of a connected series, based on different friends in their group; however it could also be read as a stand-alone. Gabby and Tim are part of a close group of friends (some of which are family) that all grew up together, and that I would love to have myself! The Christian aspect is refreshing and woven seamlessly into the narrative of the story. I love that all of the book’s characters still have their flaws, and are working on issues they may have (and not just the two main characters), but you can tell they all want to grow and are striving for actual healthy relationships.
Thank you to the publisher for the free advanced copy, this is my honest and voluntary review. Overall, I would recommend this book, and any others that this author writes!
Wonderful, faith filled story in the Beanbaggers of Cornhole County series!! This story features a FMC who suffers from anxiety and a MMC who believes he isn’t “good enough”. Their love story has angst as both struggle to overcome their insecurities and fully open themselves up to love. The book is written with a Christian point of view and faith is woven throughout the story. All the characters from the previous books are again featured in this one. While the story is a standalone, I strongly recommend reading the series in order to prevent spoilers. The book is full of romance and humor, hard times and joyous moments. I definitely recommend this book and this series!!
I received an advanced copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
