On his large brown leather belt, confining the long shaggy jacket he wore, which would have fallen to his knees, were carved the luck signs of the north.Which tend more often than not to go absolutely nowhere. Cabot himself is a drab personality who projects a flat affect and it is difficult to not as much sympathize--he is appalling--but at least capture a feeling of excitement and adventure out of this entire enterprise. His narration could be sad, excited, sardonic, or done in a Bozo the Clown voice and we would never know.
