Riftglade
On a clear night, the iced countryside of Overland shimmers in deep dark purples as it absorbs the light from the stars overhead. But this night, everything is dark as onyx; the occasional gloomy twinkle playing peek-a-boo with the eventide.
The currents of the atmosphere sense a disturbance, shifting and shivering as if in expectation of some cyclopean storm. Intruding in the peaceful song of the frozen ebony sleep comes a sweet, but perplexing hum.
At once it is as if the things of nature recognize the color of the exciting hum. The snow covered hills begin to glow warmly, a rhapsody of inner light coating the frozen tundra. In moments the air snaps to attention, exuding the scent of ancient virgin forests untouched by fae. A mix of pine, cedar and oak, fighting to dominate, release their heady perfume into the ozone.
An obscurity of bright and colorful streaks stream from over the mountains miles away. Red blending into purple; purple blending into indigo; indigo into pink evinces a masterpiece of surrealism.
If you stopped time in that instant before the ancient one was impelled by the Realm of Clouds to reach out and taste fate, you would see an amazing sight. If you hovered in the face of the masterpiece of light and color, you would behold the sorrowful expression of an exquisite fairy. Long red hair flowed out behind her as she flies. Drawing your attention would be the reddest lips and the most beautiful blue eyes. Rimming those eyes, which are at once clear and open but deep and dark as well, were the darkest lashes. The whisper of a crystalline tear hovered at the edges of those nymph eyes; the tears stretching out with the speed at which she flew.
This paragon of beauty is Princess Yaliza, daughter of Vodianyk, High King of All You See.

I write under the names K.R. Jordan or River Jordan. Mostly I write fiction, but I am obsessed with writing a personal history of my family.

Having known K.R. (River) for a number of years now, I have to say that there is one thing that always intrigued me about her writing style...
Her ability to create new and amazing worlds!
Riftglade is but the latest example of her abilities. As I write my stories, I am constantly trying to weave mystery and adventure into our everyday world. Even with my few forays into sci-fi, the universe I am dealing with will basically be a different version of our own.
I am humbled at the thought of creating a completely different universe...and yet K.R. Jordan seems to do it effortlessly, while making her characters both believable and very REAL! Fantasy fans looking for stories of Fairy's and enchanted Forests will love the story of Yaliza as she sets out to make her way into the world, finding a new home,a devilish nemesis, as well as love!
Here's a synopsis of the story!
The beautiful fairy, Princess Yaliza, is forced to leave her beloved kingdom to find her true destiny. Flying above an Overland rift forest, she is gravely wounded, falling unconscious to the ground and into Riftglade where her adventure begins!
I highly recommend this story for those who enjoy fantasy and fairy-tales!

Author K.R. Jordan presents a stunning world of magic and fairies. The beauty is breathless, the story intriguing. Despite the demands of explaining procedures of royalty and rule in this new domain, Jordan creates fascinatingly strong characters. I felt a strong connection and attachment to the relationships formed throughout Riftglade. It had few weaknesses. I felt the language became overly archaic at times, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in a classical fairy tale. I just would have liked to see more modern elements. The present tense language also threw me off at times. But, overall, an incredibly original and engaging read.

Riftglade is a gorgeously woven fantasy romance that reads more like an epic poem. K.R. Jordan is a talented wordsmith, and the descriptions of the world she creates are both lush and colorful. Her characters come to life in the beautiful world she envisions, and the romance will leave you breathless.

I really enjoyed this story. As a non-fan of fantasy/romance, I was surprised how easily Jordan's story drew me into the world that she's created and made me care about the mythical creatures that live there. With only a few speed bumps along the way, such as confusing POV in a couple of places as well as tenses being switched here and there, Riftglade is a fun read and well worth your time.

I LOVED this book! Jordan weaves a tapestry of words, immediately drawing the reader into her world and becoming deeply integrated with the characters. My only complaint - it ended way too soon!!!! I want to know more! What happens next? I have to know more about Yali! If you like faeries, fantasy, romance, or just a wonderfully written short story, this book is for you.
