Protector: A Dark Omegaverse Romance

I want her dead, but for a woman like her there is a far worse
She may hate me.
She will still be mine.

I awoke in hell. I don’t know who I was before, or where I came from. If I ever knew anything but darkness and pain.
What I am now is a machine. A weapon, whose every breath is controlled by the technology fused with my very DNA.
Bound in eternal servitude.

She did this.
Doctor Adelaide Thompson made me into the perfect soldier. A protector, incapable of doing her harm. But all I fantasize about is my hands around her throat. Her soft, pink lips gasping for air, and the drum of her pulse under my palms.
I hate her.
I want her.
And I am the only one who can save her life.
She won’t like the price…

Please This book is the compiled version of Nora's previously published Omegaverse serial, Protector. It contains the installments Protector - Rage, Protector - Treachery, & Protector - Bound.

I am Nora Ash, and I write a plethora of different romance books. Some of them are really dirty, some of them are only kinda-dirty, some are paranormal, some are contemporary… Basically, I have a rampant imagination and no way of controlling it, except from just writing down whichever idea pops into my head at the time.

The one thing my books always have in common, though? A great story and a guaranteed HEA.
If you’re ever in doubt about what you’re about to read, have a look at my book page. It has a flame rating for each series, so you know what you’re getting yourself into!

I’m originally from the cold North (AKA Scandinavia) but these days I live in rainy England with my amazing fiancé and our two pesty cats. When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading, watching Real Housewives of Wherever (reality tv it’s my shameful addiction) or hiking in whatever bit of woodland I can find.

Three fun facts about me

I once ran away with a traveling circus
I’m bilingual. Almost-kinda trilingual, but my Spanish is terri-bad these days.
I’m a decent rider (English style only, though)

“From the first time I opened my eyes in your lab, you’ve made it quite clear that you are my creator; my mistress; my god,” he rumbles…
“So-I am worshipping you. Like you were meant to be.
“You’re my mate. My monstrous, wrathful goddess. I will worship you until I die.”

Manifesting more romance reads like this, please!!

A lot of the reviews didn’t like the heroine, but whether or not you like her, Adelaide is a great character. I am giving Nora Ash the absolute kudos to write an unlikeable heroine that feels very real. She wasn't brash or overbearing. She was cold and in control. Sometimes, she could snap, but Nora Ash showed us different aspects of Adelaide throughout the novel, and Ash was very aware of toeing the line. Adelaide could have been much crueler. She wasn't a villainess and definitely doesn't hold a candle to some of the dark heroes out there. I thought it was telling that while we saw Adelaide assert her control over the obedient Jacob, we never got flashbacks to the training period, where presumably she had to train him through pain conditioning to obey her, and would have made Adelaide look especially bad to the reader.

I absolutely could not get enough of Adelaide and Jacob's dynamic. It was so hot and so interesting. The plot itself didn't give me anxiety, but the suspense was very good. In comparison to the Feral serial, which I recall to be an exhilarating experience of gut-wrenching anxiety and angst agony, the Protector serial, on the whole, was tender as well as unexpectedly hot romance in a dark sci-fi thriller plot.

When we meet Adelaide and Jacob, she is the cold scientist in charge of the AX soldiers project. She sees Jacob as a machine, as she tells herself and to everyone else. Jacob is resigned and accepting of his life, he feels deep emotions for Adelaide. Anger, but also lust.

In the Feral series, both the hero and heroine are in the same trapped predicament where the hero is losing his humanity. In the Protector series, there is a host of new ideas we're playing with. What if the heroine isn't horrified by the experiments but leading them? What if the hero, an alpha, retains his humanity?

This is why Protector is ultimately sweeter and so romantic. Jacob is an alpha who can protect and take care of his mate's needs. In Feral, it s dub-con smut at its finest, but here there is an implication that the domination between alpha and omega isn't as clear-cut, and that it may be the omega who has the power. At least in the Fated connection that Adelaide and Jacob share.

Jacob reminded me a lot of the bodyguard hero trope, or the knight. He listened to Adelaide, chip or no chip, and it never emasculated him. It showed his respect and devotion to Adelaide, in my opinion, especially when he had the ability to dominate or take control. He chose to continue to use his strength to obey her. He was willing to do anything for her. Jacob is a cinnamon hero. He always makes sure Adelaide feels safe, and while these heroes can bore me, Jacob was the perfect blend, because of their twisted origins, and his Alpha instincts. I also like that Jacob never really hated her for how she treated him, it was a non sequitur for him. It again shows his intelligence and his priorities. Interestingly enough, Adelaide is the one who has more moods of regret and shame.

I'm SO glad I saved this read. I initially didn't want to read it because I had just finished Nora Ash's intense but epic Feral serial, and I just wasn't ready to feel stressed out of my mind, feeling literally despondent with how these characters would escape and live happily ever after...

While this story is dark and has stakes, the ending is not very titillating, will they or won't they make it out alive. However, this was just what I needed.

Wow. I didn't expect to like this story, but I did once I got into it. It was a bit disorienting to understand the hatred that AX2 felt towards Dr. Thompson and how the story was going to get from A to B. There were not hints of attraction underlying his hatred as you might expect in this kind of story.

I also started out by seeing the MMC as a machine and not as a man. What I liked was how the story unfolded to shift my perspective. In some ways, it began as the familiar trope of a bitchy Omega fighting with her Alpha, but in this case, the bitchy Omega controls the Alpha, has him by the balls all the time. That's why he hates her so much. The FMC shows a lot of cruel behavior, rightful anger, and it was difficult to understand. The story unfolded over time and provided lots of clues and twists and turns. For instance, it was surprising to see the MMC enjoying his fellow comrades and feeling lonely and how he retained a certain gentleness. I also felt a lot of complex sympathy towards the General's viewpoints and of her parents' relationship. I also found the author's take of man vs. machine interesting, and how much of the Alpha might remain if the Alpha is precisely what makes good soldiers. Would the protective instinct remain? Would the dominance remain? Would sexuality remain if an Alpha became a cyborg? Still the MMC was an Alpha and a badass so don't be turned off by showing that yummy goodness. He's still a protector.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and how it didn't provide too many hints on where the story was going. Just enough so they maybe meant something more when I went back. Also, it was interesting to find the FMC is a morally grey character, kind of evil, as others see her; yet, her Alpha's the one that win her back softly.

This story features a cruel FMC aka "his little monster" and a special forces cyborg soldier who is also a cinnamon roll. It makes sense why you'd need a cinnamon roll Alpha to tame the little monster that she is. The FMC is tough, but she's been through a lot. She says: "I drift off to sleep, too exhausted to feel anything at the knowledge that being bound to me is something that draws condolences."

How would I describe this book? It's a bit of Pygmalion crossed with Dr. Frankenstein.

Of the four Alpha Tie books so far, this one is my favorite.

This book is so amazing it is an absolute hit! Addie is a scientist in charge of the Alpha program. These alphas have no memory of their life before and she looks at them as machines. She likes her world perfectly ordered. Her father, the General, likes to shake things up. The plot to this story is so awesome! Attitudes and emotions are constantly shifting and what was once Addies reality has flown out the window. The interactions between the two main characters goes from cold to super hot in a really good way but Addie struggles with this new reality. Her father is scheming and a man she’s always feared and looked up to may not be the man she thought he was. AX2 aka Jacob changes throughout this book as does Addie who is very easy to dislike at first lol. Their alpha/omega dynamic flips on its head since she was once in charge of his very life and later their roles reversed. It’s so in put downable! Swoony alphas are the best and Nora Ash writes them amazingly well. You will love this enemies to lovers Alpha/Omega romance. “Buckle up! It’s gonna be a bumpy ride!” I received an ARC and am happily leaving my review on this fantastic book

This is a great Omegaverse romance. Leigh goes into heat in the middle of a political debate. This took her completely by surprise. This book is a slightly different take on the trope and that makes it very interesting. Its sexy, a bit dark with a really good storyline.

An interesting twist to a normal werewolf story. A bit slow with the romance, but nevertheless, good.

Probably some of the most complex and layered character dynamics I've read in a while. I really enjoyed the tug and pull of the MMC having those Alpha instincts while being forced into submission due to his subordinate position in the military (and then once again towards his mate). It turns this give and take dynamic between the MCs into something really fun to experience. I can honestly say that I had never explored this particular dynamic before and I found it really unique, which is not something I run into often in romance, a genre that tends to rely heavily on tried and true tropes and character dynamics (not necessarily to its detriment -- its this exact characteristic that is often what readers seek out -- but it does mean that you don't frequently run into romance stories that take risks or dare to dig deeper whilst also toeing that line between being too gimicky or too melodramatic). The way that Nora Ash wrote her characters in here was a wonderful juxtaposition between the MMC's deep seeded hatred for the FMC but also feeling this undeniable attraction and pull towards needed not only to protect her but towards her. It stirs up lots of those feelings of tortured yearning, that bittersweet longing. I was able to really relish in all of those complex emotions against the backdrop of a political coup! It's all very fascinating. I had far more fun listening to this than I thought I would. The dual style narration between Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter was amazing as always. Overall, what a fantastic time. A truly surprising gem.

This is the complete of book 1-3 in the Protector series.

In book 1, I could have strangle Addie's neck for what she is doing and have done to the men calls AX series.

The first chapter blow my mind of how the author made me feel. Told mostly from his POV, AX2 is a machine. Or so he was told, treated and look like it.
So when his pov told so deep of his loneliness, of his need of human touch, of how angry he is to his tormentors for years of solitude, pain and repressed of his Alpha instinct...when it's simmer to almost full blown explode, that scene was strong!

I can feel his Alpha-ness like Addie felt it in her omega soul.
Dark and tempting. Animalistic and raw.

And from his POV, we see how evil Addie is. Hiding behind her doctor suit, her science god, her lust to be a god to the Alpha she keep saying she created... I have to say she disgusted me. She's cruel with her torment. She has ripped him off his memories. She keep violates him over and over again in her blind take of power. In this first book, when she yield to her omega traits, it's satisfying.

But the best part was the end of first book. How humanity prevail when he still sees her as another human being been hurt and broken despite his hate towards her. The animalistic dynamics of Alpha and omega was basic. The savagery in his action was necessary and satisfying ending to start their journey.

For me the feelings the author made me feel was raw and deserved all the stars.

The plot is unraveling in book two.

I still don't know what makes Addie the bi*ch she is with her evil cruelty towards AX. But to see her struggle in accepting what her DNA write her as submissive omega, is one giant life sentences for her.
Their chemistry was biologic fast cause alpha-omega chemistry can't be denied. Her strong head-ness take the wheel most of the time.
His alpha-ness is a reluctant protector who will never hurt her even when he can, easily.

And the plot? Traitor. Treason. Betrayel to the utmost.

The third book was almost perfect bow to tie the whole story. I said almost cause nothing is perfect.

We see Addie's reason for her cruel action.
We see the machine actually have more heart.
We see Jacob, AX2, can give so much forgiveness for his mate and therefore open her way to redemption.
I have to say though, although it was satisfying for Jacob to snap that little rapist neck, I wish to see more darkness towards the end cause the coup plot just that big to be brushed so easy at the end.
But in other hand, I love how Addie and Jacob heal in their own way.

I got to say, seeing what is happening today in real life, on how the "free country" the "super power" nation is nothing but the biggest terrorist gang in the world, I have to say, I wish this plot of coup is real.
I wish the very weapon they created will be the evil, sadistic, brutal, criminals goverment down fall from within!!.

I am so in love with this universe and have thoroughly enjoyed all the books in this world by Nora Ash.
I've been waiting for this series for years now ever since the tiny little snipped we got at the end of Feral and I still find it worth the wait. ❤️
I am also an omnibus enjoyer, so being able to read all the books in one edition is a wet dream for me. Hehehe.

This series is quite dark and angsty.
It has several triggers. 😈

I immensely disliked our MFC Adelaide, through at least half of the book. 😂

It grates on me haha, because I don't tend to enjoy "Alpha females", though she is very much an Omega. We get a sense that there is bound to be a reason for her serious dehumanisation of AX2. it just takes some time before we get to the root of it. ;)

Her severe need to control the AX males and hold power over them was a problem for me. 😂 HOWEVER. That said, she does start to redeem herself towards the end, which I was happy about and I ended up liking har character arc. :)

AX2...I just feel for him so bad. 💔
He took me through the motions that's for sure, and his char arc is slightly heartbreaking, but in the end, I was very happy with the results.
He was a strong male, super Alpha, but he also had these nice soft spots and they were not ONLY shown with Adelaide, which was nice to see.

The fact that I have these huge feelings towards our MFC and MMC is a huge plus in my column to the author. Nora Ash is a wonderful writer and her books have always taken me on an emotional rollercoaster.

The universe Nora Ash has created as part of this now three-book series is part of my favourite Omegaverse worlds and I can't wait and hope that she adds even more books to this wonderful world she has created with this series. 🥰
With Feral and Protector, she has shown us that she's not afraid to go dark, and I would love for her to go EVEN darker. ;)

This book is nice and spicey, it's got action, love, hate, malice, etc it took me all over the place, and I definitely recommend it!!.

4.25 stars. Addie, the female omega lead, is a scientist, a rare opportunity only afforded to her because she’s excellent at what she does and her father is senior military. She’s been working on a cyborg program for years and, when she’s abducted, AX2/Jacob, the male cyborg lead who she created and who hates her, is sent to retrieve her.

Finding her bonded with her now-dead captor and dying, he overrides the bond and ties her to himself. Addie is horrified at what has happened, and they’re both investigating how Addie could have been abducted from her secure quarters.

Whilst they might loathe each other, they’re tied to each other for life. As they spend time together, Addie begins to realise exactly what she was doing to Jacob and the others, and Jacob starts to understand why Addie made the choices she did.

But their world is still collapsing and they need to work out who they’ll support in the fallout…

This story is dual POV, well written, and a dark, complex, fast-paced, cyborg, action romance, which compiles the trilogy by the same name that the author released in 2023. MIND THE TRIGGERS - they’re 100% accurate. I enjoyed Addie’s serious character development, her dawning awareness, her genuine remorse, and her willingness to provide what compensation she could. I enjoyed Jacob’s care of her, even whilst he was angry, his consideration of her history once he became aware of it, and his vengeance on her behalf when it became possible. I enjoyed the other cyborgs, particularly AX1, and still hope the author writes a sequel for him. I first read this book in its serial form and was very happy to see this compilation.

AX2 U.S. Military’s strongest soldier but crafted one thing they haven't bled out of him is warmth of human connection
The Doctor in charge of him has trained him well. But he still has one thing...hatred.
Addie worked hard and has trained herself to be unfeeling. That way she can not be hurt. This is her program and she still can't understand why she can't reprogram the alpha gene out of her creation.
Then her father, the General, comes to check on her program and decides to take this mission another direction. He wants to integrate these soldiers back into social situations. She is not happy. They
aren't soldiers they are programmed machines. The General introduces four other alphas to him. The fact that he hugs the first guy and the others join in proves to the General that they still have the
need for contact and unity as soldiers. Addie sees how AX2 stares at her and when she finds him in her office she tries to show how she is in control of him until he takes control of her. The only problem
is that she starts to feel different and it scares her. She runs. She calls in sick until her dad comes and tells her he saw the footage of what she did in her lab. He tells her to take time off unless
she wants him to make it official. Once he leaves she's kidnapped. NOw her father has gone to AX2 and commanded him to save his daughter no holds barred.
Will he save her only to make her face his hatred? Or will being in close contact change him to something she tried to operate out of him?
A fascinating story that will have the reader sitting on the edge of their chair.

"She may be evil, but she's not stupid."

I feel like I should start with "Warning" written in all capital letters. This book is very, very dark. It is definitely not for anyone who can't handle any kind of dark. Did I mention it's dark?

You're going to absolutely hate the fmc, Addie, for half the book. I can't remember when I disliked a heroine more. If I had read this as the three separate books I never would have gotten to book two.

AX2. Wow. What she did to him is almost unforgivable. I honestly didn't know how Nora was ever going to give us a hea. It was like seeing an Orca in captivity in a marine park. It made me want to cry for him.

It's incredibly difficult to say much without spoilers and I refuse to ruin anyone's enjoyment of this book. The characters, main and supporting, are interesting and engaging. The plot is great and moves at a perfect rate. The complex and changing dynamic between AX2 and Addie is mesmerizing and their chemistry set the pages on fire.

No worries if you haven't read the other Alpha Ties books. The only one I've previously read was Holiday Intrusion (so much fun!) and I had no trouble understanding everything in this book. I'm definitely going to push the other two books up to near the top of my giant tbr list, though. If they are even half as good, I'll be a very happy girl.

Intense enemy to lovers military-cyborg mmc, black cat scientist fmc. 🖤

I read this when it was first in an Omegaverse anthology and FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. I easily devoured it a second time after purchasing it again, reading through the trilogy as each book released. Easily. And now here is it combined in all it's glory 🥹

I would recommend this even if you don't normally seek out Omegaverse. There's so many other elements to take pleasure in that make this an exciting read, and it's all brought together effortlessly within that realm.

The main love interests are a scientist and her project AX2, the cyborg she's perfecting to become the best weapon for military. She runs experiments and examinations on him with strict routines. He sees her as his cold-hearted tormentor.
The story puts a lot of interest and personality into both the characters' development, without one overshadowing the other as Addie tries to claim control over her life and AX2, his humanity. I love them both.

Machine or Man

This book is a compilation of the other books in this series. That’s why it was so familiar to me. A traumatized doctor, Adelaide Thompson, has made it her life’s work to become a pioneer in the field of restoring the lives of service men through cybernetics. The goal is to make them unfeeling weapons, but one soldier garners most of her attention, AX2. She subjects him to the most pain. Read this enemies to fated mates romance that’s made more interesting with a political understory. Read why Addie has an inordinately intense hatred of AX2 who has no memories of his former life.
This is a fascinating version of the world of alphas and betas.
Readers will be held captive by the author’s mastery of the written word.

Addie is a doctor who is experimenting on Alphas. She's brought these subjects back from the dead and treats them no better than the machines she uses to revive them. AX2 hates the doctor. She has tortured him and he has no memories of his past. When the General comes and changes the rules AX2 doesn't know how to react. Addie is definitely the villain initially and only as the story goes on do we the readers begin to feel empathy toward her. Even when AX2 (Jacob) saves her, she is still suspicious and despises her biological dynamic. As the story progresses we get more information and things start to make sense. Addie begins to redeem herself and takes steps to make amends. I love how Jacob was always a protector and Addie was the one who made the biggest changes. Great HEA.

AX2 has endured the three years of pain crucial to his transformation into a well-honed, part-cyborg military weapon. Alone, with no memories of his life, all he wants is some semblance of his lost humanity. He’ll even bitterly accept an accidental touch from his creator/tormentor – Dr Adelaide Thompson. But with animosity and resentment towards her fueling his emotions, its little wonder that he –

I enjoyed this dark, enemies-to-lovers, Sci-Fi, Omegaverse compilation. The story is well written with plenty of drama, some twists and several dark themes, along with an Alpha/omega dynamic and explicit, MF sex, featuring knotting.

I have been a long time fan of Ms. Ash. I have bought and read all her books and revisions, so I knew this book was going to immediately on my shelf. I have read the original books when they were seperate stories.

This revision has allowed the three books to flow into one story. There are minute changes, but as a whole the whole of the backbone of the story is the same (for those of you who loved the original).

I felt like the changes any added to improve an already steamy and compelling story. Characters that needed more depth, were able to have more of an added backstory to give that. Definitely worth reading again.

Protector is the third book in the Alpha Ties series. It is my favorite in the series so far. The storyline has some very dark moments that feel not so fictionalized, especially the biotech stuff, and a definite theme of the consequences of greed and power at the highest levels. There is also a fated romance that goes through quite a bit of turmoil before happily ever after becomes their ending. Protector is a page-turner with intense betrayals, twists, drama, alpha hotness, steamy romance, and suspense.

I've read several books written by Nora Ash; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is part of the Alpha Ties Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Allie & Jacob; she is the doctor that changed him but he still comes to her rescue.

I did not realize when accepting this book that I had already read this series.
I still enjoy Addie and Jacob. I'll be honest I didn't like her in the beginning but eventually she grows on you.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

An interesting concept became an intriguing story as everything played out. I liked the energy of the story. I liked the conflict which added a danger level to the story.
