Logan discovered both love and heartbreak at the tender age of seven, when the pretty little blue-eyed girl next door stole his Kit-Kat bar and shared it with the bad boy from across the street. Devastated, Logan found solace by escaping into imaginary worlds he forged with words, creating kingdoms where the chivalrous knight always got the princess.

Twenty three years later Logan spends his days in a suit and tie, working for the government on matters of network security. However his thoughts never strayed too far from the incendiary nature of love — the passionate fire that’s both scintillating and dangerous. Obsessed with exploring the steamy and mysterious side of human nature, Logan continues to create worlds filled with thrills, mystery, and of course, sex.

5 stars!!!!

Wow!

First- Penumbra is book two in the Midnight Society series by Logan Patrick and cannot be read alone. You must read Semblance first!

Now to the juicy stuff: I wasn't quite sure where Logan was going to take the story after we leave our three main characters utterly devastated at the end of Semblance. What he did was weave an even more intricate story and he sucks you back into the Society.

I love that Aria isn't as light-hearted and overtly good in this book. This personality change may confuse some, but honestly, after you experience what she does in Semblance, would you be light hearted and good still?? Probably not. Unless you're a Saint. But then you'd likely be dead anyway so does it matter?

I don't want to get into details or give much away, but I will say things get a bit more steamier in Penumbra. There are twists and turns and voodoo and fighters and hackers. It's a crazy, well told and seriously awesome continuation! I, for one, CANNOT wait for book three!! (Logan, I hope you are prepared for my bugging!)

Bottom line- read this book! Read this series!

I love the first book. Words can't describe it. This book felt like a in between book. The story was good, but not as good as the first. I think that is my problem. I had HUGE expectations. Maybe unreasonably so.

I loved the character growth of Shadow and Aria. I loved the new characters added to the colorful canvas. Oh course there was Lincoln. He's had always been a favorite of mine. It was full of action and hot sex. There was some "oh sh!t" moments and a quasi HEAish, with still a cliff hanger. There was no mindfu#ks like Semblance. Maybe that's a good thing. I haven't decided yet.

I will definitely read the next, but I hope it wows me more like Semblance.

In one night everything changed for Aria and Shadow. Aria's hope at love and happiness shattered. Shadow's world, crumbled. They both struggle to pick up the pieces of what is left of their life and The Midnight Society. They should have each other, but thanks to the one who betrayed them, they don't have that either. Aria has her tattered heart and Shadow has vengeance. Now they have to decide if they are meant to be on the path together or separate. One thing is for sure, this path won't be easy. And you can be certain there will be dead bodies along the way.

Aria has been through hell. She went from the poor house to rodeo drive in a heartbeat. Fell fast and hard for the dark, elusive, and sexy as hell Shadow. Then had it all ripped away. Despite all this Aria hasn't changed who she is. She is still sweet, caring, insightful and speaks her mind, but when it comes to Shadow she doesn't know what to do. She's broken hearted, lonely, and wants her life back. The question is which life does she want? Life before Shadow, or life after Shadow?

Penumbra picks up right where Semblance left off, with Shadow and Aria neck deep in the middle of hell. The Midnight Society has fallen, taking the statuesque Shadow right down with it. But Shadow is a fighter and has a strong thirst for vengeance. And he makes getting revenge his number one priority and he doesn't care who he hurts along the way.

Underneath his lust of revenge, Shadow is broken. Everything he has known and loved has been ripped away from him. Not only does he have to fight to rebuild his life, he has to fight to discover who he really is. In Penumbra we see Shadow crumbled, angry and so broken down that it seems that love will never shine through his broken walls. He is so thirsty for blood and leaves a deadly trail in his wake. But as he hunts down the one responsible he finds pieces of himself and gets a glimpse at a life he could have. Shadow is stubborn, there is no denying that. In Penumbra he is also an ass. Granted he is a sexy ass, but I wanted to beat the crap out of him in this book. I screamed at him, cursed at him, and broke down over him. But little by little Shadow redeemed himself. He began to grow into the man that I glimpsed in Semblance, the man that Aria and I know he can be.

Then there's Lincoln. In Semblance he was quiet and mysterious. Always on the side lines, like a sexy predator. In Penumbra he takes center stage. No longer stalking his prey from the side lines, he now has a front row seat thanks to Shadow. I have a deep love for Shadow. Despite all his faults, I know he is a good man and I will always root for him, but Lincoln.... Lincoln is a whole other animal. He is sleek like a black panther, sly like a fox, and hungry... yes like the wolf. We get a lot more of him in Penumbra. A LOT more of him. I liked him before, but now thanks to Logan Patricks spinning, he has weaseled his way into my heart. Things have definitely gotten interesting in the world of The Midnight Society.

Now I wish I could give you more... oh there is so much more. So much anguish, excitement, and steam. But there are also things that shouldn't be said. People who I can't speak of. Things that you are just going to have to read for yourself... but I can say this....

Penumbra is an explosive read in reverse. It starts after the explosion. With everyone picking up the pieces, then we follow the characters as they attempt to rebuild what they have and as they struggle to deal with the betrayal that has cut them so deep. Little by little the walls get rebuilt. They become stronger. They see a glimmer of hope again, but like all Logan Patricks stories, another explosion comes and tears all the walls down again. The story of The Midnight Society is dark, mysterious, sexy, steamy, and dangerous as hell. It is indeed a "road paved with broken glass and razor blades."

Logan Patricks talent at crafting a story is amazing. He continues to play me like a fiddle. He knows all the chords to strum. All the notes that need to be played and he puts them in such an order that leaves you completely and totally breathless. By the time you finish Penumbra you won't know what hit you. But you will know it was beautiful, magical and something you probably won't see again. Well not until the next installment in the series.

From New York to Hong Kong to New Orleans, Logan Patricks takes the reader on a whirlwind adventure with the cast from the first book in the series, (Semblance - The Midnight Society Book 1) adding more characters to PENUMBRA (the sequel).

Where the developing romance and love between Aria and Shadow took center stage in Semblance; action, suspense and intrigue play a larger role in PENUMBRA.

To say the villain wreaked havoc onto the main characters would be a huge understatement, as Shadow, Aria and Lincoln strive to deal with the emotional turmoil the villain caused, while rebuilding a community of allies they once had, dealing with their own personal guilt, demons and grief.

There is more explanation about the Midnight Society and a cast of new characters, which add a lot of exotic and intriguing flavor to the mystery of not only the main characters but to the villain as well.

As with the first book, Logan Patricks' writing will tease your senses, as you experience the scent, taste and ambiance of the exotic locations and different cultures he takes you to throughout the book.

As one loose end is tied up, another one is loosened, making this a page turner to find out what's next in store for the characters and the Midnight Society.

The sexy scenes well written and add a huge conflict to the love story we read about in book one.

I recommend this book to readers who love a heavy dose of thriller/action/suspense with romance. I also highly recommend readers read the first book in the series, before reading this one.

I look forward to next book by Logan Patricks.

This author takes us on another journey of suspense, mystery and dangerous heart pounding adventures. How clever and enthralling, be prepared to be swept away, into the lives of those who are in this secret club: The Midnight Society. The story picks up where Book One, Semblance leaves off, the entire plot flows so easily and you become so captivated with the characters, you feel as if you are there experiencing every single twist and turn they go through.

Logan Patricks brings in new characters and they are so enriched with emotion and detailed as the plot thickens. The way he introduces us to these heroes and heroines one wonders if this suspenseful story will unfold in more espionage or end in a explosive climax.

Shadow Tremaine fights his way through the turmoil of revenge and the need to avenge his family and friends. Aria's strength will be tested as she struggles to control her desires. Lincoln will be as loyal as ever as he stands behind all those in The Midnight Society.

"The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing humanity that he didn't exist." ~Lincoln

Thank You Logan Patricks for another wonderful tale of passion, suspense, revenge and the best BBF I could ever hope for!

Once again, another amazing continuation of The Midnight Society and the push and pull between Aria and Shadow. I can't wait to read book 3. I hope we won't have to wait too long! 5+++++ stars!!!!1

Spoiler alert, DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET....full summary of book to help me remember when book 3 comes along....
So this book starts where we left off from book 1...Calisto was the puppet master when it came to various deaths and manipulations. Her goal was to have ultimate power taken away from The Midnight Society so she could reign as queen of the Revenants. Shadow is awe struck with the truth that Calisto is the one who murdered their parents just for the mere fact that she didn't get "enough" attention from them growing up. She also manipulated him to fall for Aria which makes him question his love for her and whether it is true or brain washing and therefore, causes him to push her away. Several fell victim to Calisto's evil scheme, including Justin, Aria's best friend, and several revered elders of the Midnight Society. Shadow decides he, Lincoln, and Aria, the sole remaining members of TMS, will hunt down Calisto and make her pay for all her treachery. Lincoln ventures out on his own, while Lincoln is tasked with taking care of Aria and keeping her safe. Shadow seeks out Nathan Tse, leader of another high powered society in Hong Kong. He agrees to give Nathan complete control over the Triad if he tells him where he can find Cairo, whose father was killed by Lincoln during Calisto's "game" where several of the elders died. Including Cairo's g/f, Reiko's father. He explains what went down and how Lincoln was forced to kill their father's by playing Russian Roulette with a hand gun and one bullet. His purpose for finding Cairo, was to find Reiko, a reknowned hacker that could help start the process of taking down The Revenants by stripping them financially. She agrees to help Shadow and Cairo stays on as "muscle" so to speak. Meanwhile, Lincoln and Aria head to New Orleans to find a man by the name of Beau per Shadow's instructions. This man's father also fell victim to Lincoln's RR and Lincoln convinces him that it was Calisto so Beau agrees to help them with their act of vengeance against Calisto. They search for a man by the name of Mr. Friday and his voodoo witch side kick Isadora. Beau was hiding money and weapons for his father, ie. for TMS if something were to go wrong. Beau ended up investing in a drug ring under Mr.Friday. When they find Isadora, she reveals that Mr. Friday passed 2 yrs prior and she has been running things ever since. She gives them the money and weapons and they head off to meet back up with Shadow. In the mean time, Shadow has been in touch with his ex from 4 yrs prior, Leah, whose brother also lost his life to Calisto, and who now also works for the CIA. She is wishing to find Calisto also, but in the legal sense, alive so she can prosecute her. She informs Shadow that she has a mole in The Revenants and that she is working on locating Calisto. Shadow had tried to call Lincoln earlier and couldn't get good reception, but it was during that time that Lincoln etc were under attack my The Revenants and he was taken as a captive by them. It is assumed it is Calisto who wants him alive. Beau and Aria make plans to meet up with Shadow at the House at the Edge of a Cliff. While talking to Leah, Shadow realizes that there must be a traitor in his midst because no one could have gotten a lock down on Lincoln's (a master of disguise) whereabouts without having the info as to where he was.

Betrayal. It’s one of the oldest literary themes. It’s one of the oldest themes in civilization. People have been stabbing each other in the back since the dawn of time. If anything the driving factors have only gotten more complicated and convoluted. But regardless of motivation, a knife in the heart delivered by someone you love is always one of the harshest and hardest things from which to come back.

Penumbra picks up almost exactly where Semblance left off – Calisto has tilted the entire world off of its axis with her betrayal of Shadow, Aria, Lincoln and The Midnight Society as a whole, creating a splinter organization she has named, The Revenants, after murdering the top members of the core leadership to be replaced by no one but her.

Life as Shadow, Aria and Lincoln know it is in ruins. All three are wracked with guilt, grief and seething anger. Calisto’s manipulations have pit Shadow against Aria within their love, making them both second guess everything that has happened between them and whether they ever really had a future. Lincoln is left to wonder how he should chart his new course as a murderer, knowing the love of his life forced him to pull the trigger.

To say that they are all starting from nothing is generous. No matter what trials and tribulations they may have endured individually in their past, their current situation makes that all look like a carousel ride.

Shadow is riddled with crippling doubt about his entire life in the face of Calisto’s betrayal and turns to his self-imposed to-do list to cope instead of turning into the waiting arms of his love. Aria is caught up in the spin of a tornado of grief, overwhelming guilt and confusion in the face of being turned aside to by Shadow. Lincoln is walking tall, safely tucked behind his playboy façade, completely unwilling to externally confront his own feelings of loss and anger

Watching these three individuals walk the road laid before them with the sole goal of finding Calisto and making her pay would be interesting enough given each of their mental states. But because they are such incredibly complicated, intense, intelligent characters they aren’t content to simply tick line items off their to-do list. We get to watch them all tackle their individual and group demons in a grueling fight for their lives, love and future in an extraordinarily gritty, authentic and intelligent way.

Logan Patricks has crafted another brilliant thriller laced through with incredible heat, fantastic humor and genuinely larger than life characters. He exquisitely paces this story by expertly weaving complimentary, new characters and challenges to overcome throughout. He continually ups the ante by peppering in teases, taunts and temptations for all setting up the reader to constantly be checking whether there is still solid ground under our feet.

Patricks has rendered a perfect balance between mystery, a character driven narrative and a flat out fun story to read. Although the core theme of this series is betrayal, readers will never question or regret their investment in characters or story. Like its predecessor, Penumbra delivers everything you could possibly want.

"As twisted as this sounds, sometimes it's nice watching the train wreck of other people's lives, just to make our own look a little better by comparison."

Penumbra is an absolutely terrific follow up and continuation in The Midnight Society series.

We dig deeper into how The Midnight Society came about and how everything came to as it is today. Calisto is hiding and trying to make sure that her plans are not interfered with. Shadow, Lincoln and Aria are forced to stay below the radar and work with the limited resources at their disposal.

These three are thrown into some wild adventures and have to put their faith and trust in people that they least expect to. Lincoln and Aria are together trying to obtain the money and passports that will be needed to start all over again without Calisto finding them. Shadow goes out alone to find his sister (Calisto) along with the hopes of joining up with old friends from the past to get what he needs. The journeys are remarkable and very trying at times.

"The greatest trick the devil ever played was convincing humanity that he didn't exist."

Logan does an exquisite job of just sucking you into the story and bringing it to life. You can't read this book and not picture exactly what is going on. The detail is dead-on perfect. The whole time I was reading, I felt like I was right there.

The dialogue and banter - HOLY SHIT!! I absolutely loved it!! The witty comments were an absolute plus and really add to the whole story.

"You might want to remove that life jacket as well. You stick out like an erection through sweat pants."

Logan has a way with his words that is just unexplainable. You come across some authors that just have a real raw talent for writing. Logan is one of those authors - just pure, ture talent that just flows smoothly. When you read anything written by him, you can't help but be drawn in to the story. For me - even after reading one time - these characters and everything that has played out, will forever be stuck with me. That right there says what an amazing author Logan is.

If you are looking for something that not only has those hot, sexy scenes but has a great plot to boot - you want to read The Midnight Society series. You won't regret it!!

Semblance ended with the Midnight Society destroyed. All that remained was Shadow, Lincoln and Aria. Penumbra jumps straight back in where Semblance finished.
For Shadow, Aria and Lincoln the world as they knew it has changed now. The destruction of the Society has left these 3 devastated. But now the time has come to pick up the pieces and begin to rebuild their lives.

Shadow is hell bent on getting vengeance; for his parents deaths and for the destruction of the Society. Shadow is itching to get his hands on... (yeah I'm not telling you that)! In Penumbra Shadow behaves a like a complete Ass! Don't get me wrong I really love Shadow, but in Penumbra there are times when he is just a thoroughbred dick! It's these times that make me want to slap him! His stubbornness and thirst for vengeance make him very determined and sometimes narrow minded too.

Aria is feeling heart broken, dejected and uncertain about the future. There's a part of her that wants Shadow still but I think there's a part of her that wonders what things would be like if she... All that aside Aria still hasn't lost sight of who she really is.

Lincoln has finally emerged from the shadows, in Semblance he was an intriguing character who seemed to be stalking the sidelines, well not anymore! Lincoln has grown into a serious player in this series.

There are of course more than just these 3 characters, but if I was to discuss all of them that would give away far too much of the plot! You'll just have to read Penumbra for yourself in order to meet them all!

Characters aside; Penumbra was a gripping read. I love how it followed on seamlessly from Semblance. Logan Patricks has undeniably got the knack of crafting a well plotted web of; well everything really; there's mystery and suspense, steaminess, danger and murderous intent lurking around every page!

Logan's writing style is crazy good. It grabs a hold of you from the first page and pulls you right into the middle of every twist, turn, conversation and more. Page after page I was drawn further and further into this mysterious, murderous and intense plot. I couldn't have walked away if I'd tried.

I'm really looking forward to the next installment in this series!

Patricks does it again with Penumbra! This book was a surprise. I didn't even know it had come out and then suddenly I saw it on my Amazon Recommendations and I did a little happy dance. Semblance left me in such a state of What. The. Fuck. that I literally squealed a little!

I have to say my only complaint for this book (which is 2 parted) is that A. Shadow and Aria spend basically the entire book apart (sad face) and B. It didn't have quite the enigmatic pull that Semblance had. The mystery was kind of already on the plate if you will.

Now don't get me wrong, that is not to say that there wasn't plenty of WTF moments and surprises along the way because there was! I mean hello, Duckface, what the fuck? Elena! Whoa WTF! Lincoln and Aria, umm HOT WTF!! Isadora badass voodoo lesbo WTF I will avenge my wife you SOB! Oh yes, there was a lot going on here!

This series is incredible and characters drop like flies! You never know who's going to die, get captured, turn out to be the bad guy. I mean this series is epic! I wish I had even a smidgen of the creative mind to make all these twists and turns come into such a flawless plot. This is truly a mystery, romance, with a smidgen of supernatural genre all it's own!

Thank you Logan Patricks for your fucked up mind!

This review is actually a little difficult for me to write. I LOVED Semblance (The Midnight Society #1), I mean I seriously loved it. I lived it, breathed it, dreamed about it, obsessed over it. My expectations for book two were high - maybe too high?

Don't get me wrong Logan is an extremely talented writer, and he did not fail us in this book. He has the ability to write such strong, powerful, complex, interesting characters. He elicits so much emotion from you with regards to his characters - you either love them or you hate them.

In book one there was a lot of drama, action, suspense. In this book it was a little slower, a little more relaxed. I get the feeling he's setting us up for something great in the next book.

The romance was definitely lacking in this book but it was for obvious reasons. I wanted to kill Shadow, literally kill him, and I found myself more and more enthralled with Lincoln. Aria on the other hand grew on me, I've always liked her, but I think she found herself in this book. She became strong and secure in who she is.

While I'm not quite as satisfied with this book as I was book one, I enjoyed it and will eagerly await the next book in the series!

Mysteries & Alliances

A whole new band of misfits have come together to try to eradicate an evil amongst their lives. So past and present meet to form a new Midnight Society....chaos is the best way to describe the bond that they are forming. Vengeance is what drives them, but the question on my mind is....who can or cannot be trusted?!
There are so many plays in this game of cat & mouse, assassin's, voodoo witches, murderers, a crazed psychotic sister, and of course a whole boatload of victims. I loved every intense moment!
So my first piece of advice....read Semblance first (if haven't done so yet). Second read Penumbra (of course!) I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a story filled with gun toting characters and a glimpse at full spectrums of love/lust/desires (that should spike your interests)!!!!

I absolutely loved this authors first book, Semblance, and couldn't wait for this one to come out.

Penumbra continues the story extremely well, almost immediately after the ending of book 1.

The repercussions from the end of Semblance are felt far and wide at the start of this book. Everyone is in shock as to how cold and calculating Calisto has been. Her actions have far reaching consequences for Shadow, Aria and everyone else within what was The Midnight Society.

This book takes Shadow and Aria in totally different directions, can they find the solutions they are looking for and work there way back together again?

The action in this book is very well written, and totally held my attention throughout.

I can't wait to read book 3 and find out what the author has in store for the characters, especially as he has ended book 2 with something which promises to upset everything once again.

Penumbra is an absolutely stunning read that will have you laughing one minute and crying the next. The characters show their true colours by this multi-angle book and you begin to get a deeper understanding of the inner workings of both Aria AND Shadow. With the introduction of new characters and a little more "page-time" for some of the more familiar characters, Penumbra is well-rounded in terms of it's intertwining plot lines and let's be honest here, more Lincoln and Shadow is just like.. WOW! :P

Love, sex, drama and adventure - this book (and series) seriously has it ALL!

A massive congratulations to Logan Patricks on yet another amazing book that readers simply CANNOT PUT DOWN!

I enjoyed the first book of this series and was looking forward to reading this one. At the start of the book I was captivated and excited, but as I began getting further in the book, I found myself frustrated with all the character point of view changes and just too much going on. I also found myself disconnected from the characters because to me they were not really likable or relatable to me. Something I did enjoy was the voodoo aspect of the book because it was unexpected.

After reading this book, I'm left wondering if the next in the series will leave me feeling the same way, frustrated and a little confused on where this series is going.

Nice continuation of Aria and Shadow's story.
I enjoyed the New Orleans and Hong Kong locations. Put a nice spin on the story.
There are multiple character developments that feel seamless and really make the story flow and keep me engaged.
My highlights:
"As twisted as this sounds, sometimes it's nice watching the train wreck of other people's lives, just to make your own look a little better by comparison." That's why I love books!
Aria's thoughts about Shadow "...just couldn't shake the feeling that our road to a happily ever after was paved with broken glass and razor blades , and, at some point, onerous was going to stumble and fall and paint the dirt with our blood."

What a fantastic book. I loved the first one and I love the second one. Logan Patricks has become one of my favorite authors. The thrill, suspense, the twists and turns, and of course the hot sex; this book has it all. It is well written and well edited. I love the growth of Aria from book one to two. In this second book we get to see more of Lincoln, a lot move and I loved it. I can’t wait to see what happens in the third book.

Still too much murder and bloodshed for me. The emotional core is also missing. You could say that reflects the numbness the characters have to adopt to survive but it's not crafted well enough, IMHO, for that to be true. The writing/phrasing is awkward at times; however, since I still find the idea/storyline interesting I will probably read the next installment as long as it ends this whole thing.

Logan Patricks has done it again. I can not wait for the next book. WRITE LOGAN WRITE FAST! I enjoyed all of the new additions to the story! Beau is climbing to the top of one of my favs! Still love Lincoln, Aria and Shadow. Now I just (impatiently) wait....

The second installment of The Midnight Society series was as intriguing as the first. Twists and turns with these familiar characters will keep the reader on the edge of their seats and lucky for us Author Logan Patricks isn't done yet. I can't wait for the next one.

ooh how I loved Lincoln in this book... although I found this book to have been a little slower and less of everything I loved from semblance, I still loved it all and can not wait for book 3..with how book 2 ended, I'm thinking the next is gonna totally blow us away

Oh My Word!!
This series gets better with each book. So many unanswered questions. Who is good and who is evil? I can't decide. The introduction of the new characters is great. I like Beau but for some reason I think he's bad. Looking forward to the next book.

This book is a total waste of money!
Possibly one of the worst books I've ever read.
Full of misspellings and missing words, seriously?
Wondering if it was ever even edited...
Bottom line don't waste your time or money.
