Bought this book from our independent bookshop at the local author’s book-signing. Though this wasn’t my typical fare, I definitely appreciated the author’s passion for telling the story of these characters. They were very real. I haven’t experienced the level of trauma experienced by these characters, so I haven’t no idea the reality of how survivors reveal themselves, but this book felt much too light considering the horrors the characters experienced. But maybe they worked hard to seem so light to cover the trauma. The mood just didn’t quite match the content.
I met the author and got this book at a local bookstore where she was performing a reading. I did not know that the event was scheduled, and I had never heard of this author. Turns out this is her first published book. I enjoyed the story. It had some heavy topics, but I enjoyed the story. The story follows 2 estranged sisters as they come together to clean out the house that they were both adopted into. Family secrets are exposed, and they find a way to move on.
