The explosive new book from the multiple Sunday Times bestselling author sharing unique insight gained rom a life spent on the frontlines.
Military and army personnel are regularly put under rigorous mental and physical training programmes that push the limits of the human body and mind. As a result, soldiers understand that any life-threatening situation can be survived, endured, and overcome.
For Ant Middleton, first as a commando in the Royal Marines with 40 Commando and later as an elite operator with the SBS, the combat zone was also a training ground like no other. In Military Mindset, he'll share that hard-won military know-how, allowing readers to take insights and apply them in meaningful, practical ways to their daily lives.
From techniques to help maintain focus and gain an edge on an opponent, to surviving hardship, understanding negative and positive action and the power of self-belief, learning from failure and lessons in how to train your mind and body for the challenges that life throws at us - this book will offer readers invaluable guidance delivered in the form of punchy, easy-to-digest anecdotes drawn from Ant's own experiences.
Embrace the disciplined, focussed mindset of a leader and arm yourself with military mindset.
My husband read this book on vacation and said I’d probably enjoy it too. And I did.
52 lessons from the battlefield you can adopt to your everyday life and make it more purposeful and effective.
Some of the lessons felt common sense to me (like break down your goals), however, some of them were brilliant (like positive naïveté concept). All of them were also very well explained and illustrated with great examples from real life! I esp loved learning about the SAS training.
«The only person who can save you is yourself.»
«Your mindset will get you through the toughest moments in your life. That is the only thing no one else can take from you.»
«Life is about progression, not perfection. You don’t have to climb the peak to achieve something. You only need to be in close proximity to that peak.»
«Self-doubt is like gangrene. It’s highly infectious. Unless you cut it off completely, it’s going to keep in growing and consume you.»
The information contained in Middleton’s book gives you a history lesson, a biographical recollection of true military events while also being a self help guide as to how one might choose to conduct oneself who is ready to make changes to improve upon their life. It is a fast page turner and full from start to finish of fascinating facts and information. I would suggest keeping a notepad handy for the teaching points. 10/10 praise for Middleton.
I wish this type of book had been around when I was in my 20’s. It wasn’t, so I learnt the hard way.
Nothing new or spectacular that hasn’t been written elsewhere, but still full of good and practical advice to basically be a better person.
You don’t need to be in the armed forces to benefit from reading this, but as you can guess from the title, it’s quite military-orientated, and may not be to everyone’s taste.
If I was to choose only one of Ant’s informative self-help books, I think it would be the fear bubble rather than this.
Well worth a read particularly in that it had real life historical depictions of military events that reinforced the key lessons from the book of which there are many examples which also provide an insight into the mindset of some of the greatest military leaders of all time.
Lots of basic good sense here that applies to lots of things in life and business, written in lots of short, easy to read chapters. Reminded me of the Canadian astronaut book (by Chris Hadfield) about preparing and planning. Not much actual confronting military detail, thank goodness.
Decent book, some awesome chapters but found it hard to start focused at times as it jumped so over the place. I will reread some chapters again in the future
